Duggars #10 and #11 Turn 20

Today, the second to last day of the year, is the final Duggar birthday celebration of 2018, and it's a big one. Twins Jedidiah and Jeremiah are 20 years old! Happy birthday, Jed and Jer. Today is also Zach Bates' 30th birthday.

  1. Happy birthday to Jed and Jer. As they turn 20, I turn 30. Many happy returns!

  2. Do these young men have jobs or are they going to college to get a degree?

    1. I agree it would be nice to see some of the Duggar kids go to college (if that's what they want), but let's be honest, some people just are not academically inclined & unless you want a degree to get a specific job I can't see any of them going just for the 'college experience'. It's not like they would want to join university societies or meet girls (they will meet their life partner through jim bob & family friends most probably). I do think though when there are 19 children it would be so nice to see one or two of them stretch their wings & do other things than flip cars & houses as the rest of the guys have done or get married & have children like the girls, there is nothing wrong with those things but it would in my opinion be so good to see a Duggar with a degree & not just those online classes Jill took to get her midwifery certificate, which isn't a qualification in most other countries of the world.

    2. The routine practice appears to be that they all work for their dad in some capacity and/or take some Bible classes.

    3. Probably working for JimBob.

    4. Well I guess they would share if they wanted to! Don't be so nosy

    5. The Duggar family has a degree of entrepreneurship, relying on the Lord & Biblical principles, including "these young men". ❤

    6. Anon 8:45. Relying on God is good, but in my experience God pretty much expects us to do something to earn money to pay for our needs. I fail to see how having ALL the Duggars working for JB flipping a few cars and maintaining his rental properties would support all the members of this huge family.

    7. Anon 12:20. If you fail to see how being an entrepreneur and selling cars or houses can make a living for a family then you need to get out more. It amazes me how being an entrepreneur could constantly get scorn from people like you. Many of the most financially successful people in our city are entrepreneurs running their own car business, etc.

    8. Anon 10:40. I'm not "scorning" entrepreneurs but I am skeptical that a small locally owned family business in a town of 3500 could support a family the size of the Duggar's in the style in which they live. IMO their wealth comes from other things, including the TV show.

    9. Anon 10:40. Of course they get money from the tv show. Who cares! The implication in all the snide comments about the Duggar young men's jobs is to make their self employment and working for their Parent's company as somehow not worthy. That is ridiculous as a family business is something to be proud of. Plus, to think they would work for the family business if it didn't give them a solid living is silly. Although their immediate town might be small they seem to live nearby a larger city.

    10. 4:06, don't forget the rental business. No telling how many houses they own.

    11. They choose if they want to go. I think that is a personal journey and truth be told, college isn't something that is guaranteed to complete you. I did what my parents told me to do and I went to college. I wasted money on something that I never used. I was only trying to please them and not myself. I went on my own and got hired in at a job that I love, that I didn't need to go to college for. I make more money than my own boyfriend and I pay for my own house. These Duggar men and women will be just fine no matter what choice they make.

    12. 8:09- Yes, we should not try to please others. I think some people wonder if the Duggars really do have a choice in what careers they pursue and if the grown children are trying to please their parents by conforming to their expectations, which appears to be limited to family business or self-employment. I’ve encouraged my own kids to pursue their passions, whether or not it involved college. One owns a successful business and the other went to college and is now a research scientist.

    13. Jim Bob is an entrepreneur. His sons work for Jim Bob in his varying investments. It surprised me that the Duggar sons looked to be under the supervision of a non-family member when Counting On showed them doing yard maintenance on the rental properties. It is unusual that Jim Bob would hire someone with so many sons in their late teens and early 20s (and Ben) working in the family business. Working in a family business is a valid form of work and they should be proud of that their real estate business has been passed down over multiple generations. It be interesting to see how many of the 10 Duggar sons stay within the family business and how they expand their business to support their own families.

    14. The "college experience " is not always what it's cracked up to be.

    15. 5:51 AM - They said themselves in a interview that they will go to college if they needed. The people who thinks they don't have a choice doesn't keep up with the show and blogs. And some of them are just making up these things because they don't like the Duggars.

  3. Dear Jedidiah and Jeremiah, happy 20th birthday to you both. I've watched you since you guys were 6 years old. I can't wait to see what god has in store for you guys. Jeremiah I love doing art. I can do every detail. I'm very faithful to god and my family. I help where ever I can. I really can't wait to meet you in person. I especially can't wait for season 9 to come on very soon. Hopefully more then 14 episodes. Sincerely, Natasha Nicole B.

  4. They have jobs; however if you believe in 9-5, white collar, Monday to Friday, working for someone you are not related to and receive a paycheque every two weeks, then no, they are not working.

    1. Huh? What are you trying to say? That blue collar jobs are not working? That working for a relative is not working? That getting paid on commission is not working?

      Delete
    2. No, she's trying to say the opposite. That some people only consider it working if it fits a certain definition.

    3. @6:58.. The poster did not say that only white collar people work.

However, working for family (i.e. Dad) can be very different from working for non-relatives. Relatives do not necessarily fire you; performance reviews are infrequent; the salary can be lower; the hours not set; promotions and skill training are limited; health benefits limited..

Working on commission is, of course, working. But it is based on selling, trying to convince a customer they want or need something, when maybe they do not. It is a strange way of making a living for a Christian.

    4. Shoot, many successful people have family working for them. Jared and Ivanka for example. Well more so Ivanka

    5. Anon 3:37. You are so right. The Duggars have become successful in much the same way, through name recognition. They should continue as they are doing as long as possible IMO.

    1. What a very lovely gesture from Joan, Marion & Marilyn to write separate messages for both jedidiah & Jeremiah. So many people clump twins together their whole lives, my father was a twin & we have 7 sets throughout our family & none of them ever appreciated having joint parties, birthday cakes or presents, your sentiments grately touched me & made me see how special your messages were.

  10. Best wishes to the twins. In a couple of years they will no doubt meet and marry their mates. It would be a hoot if they married twin sisters.
