Spurgeon Loves Dancing, Talking, and 'Fixer Upper'

With Baby Seewald #2 due in exactly five weeks, Jessa and Ben Seewald are savoring their last days as the parents of just one child. All of you readers who have more than one kiddo understand how much busier their lives are about to become. Might need to stock up on the coffee, Seewalds!

Thirteen-month-old Spurgeon Seewald is quite the cutie. He has adorable curly hair and loves to toddle around with a smile on his face. Here are a few videos of the soon-to-be big brother. In the first, he shows off his dance moves while listening to the song "Skating" from A Charlie Brown Christmas.

In the second, he entertains himself with an episode of HGTV's Fixer Upper starring Chip and Joanna Gaines, which happens to be one of Jessa's favorite shows. In the third, Spurgeon sings along to "If You're Happy and You Know It." See more of Spurgeon on season three of TLC's Counting On, set to premiere January 15th.

  2. Wait a minute, I didn't think the Duggar kids believed in dancing or watching TV??

    1. Jessa's parents didn't. I saw an episode of 19 kids and counting when one of the babies started bouncing to music and Michelle stopped the baby and told them no or whatever it was. She explained to the camera that dancing leads to sinful behavior and is not allowed.

    2. Jessa and Ben have their own family and make their own rules.

    3. This is the Seewald Family. It's refreshing, and dare I say, encouraging that Ben and Jessa are letting go of some legalistic ideologies that have nothing to do with Christianity or Salvation. We were created to dance..so I'm happy to see Spurgeon dancing and not being repressed or shamed. I'm happy Jessa watches TV...she seems less hypocritical than her parents for sure...after all it's TV that has given this family millions. Glad to see them making decisions for their own lives.

    4. They aren't but because Jessa and Ben are his parents they make the rules. So glad he gets to be a kid and do things kids get to do.

    5. Jim Bob and Michelle don't believe in letting THEIR children watch TV or dance to music. But, it seems that Jinger and her husband don't agree with those rules.

    6. While it may be true that the Duggar rules don't allow dancing, the Duggar rules LSO say the man, meaning Ben, is head of household, he makes the rules for Jessa and Spurgeon, not Jimbob or Michelle. Maybe growing up Bens parents allowed dancing? I know he has a sister that wears pants. Ben also listens to Christian rap music, don't forget. I even saw pics of Ben at a Christian rap concert swaying to the music. We all know the bible can be interpreted different ways by different people. Doesn't mean a person is any less a Christian if they interpret something differently than a Duggar. Maybe the Duggars allow things that other Christians don't? Just respect others views, even if different than your own views. Maybe that's how it is between the Duggar and Seewald households? Its all good folks! HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!

    7. To all you parrots who squawk everytime a Duggar married child does something differently...do u not get it by now? Do you raise your children EXACTLY the same way as your parents?...I THINK NOT! So come on enough already, this is getting tiresome every single time they post something different than mom and pops.YAWNING 😬So over it.

  3. I once read that duggar children were forbidden to dance and from an early age

    1. Why all the comments about what the Duggars believe? Spurgeon is a Seewald! Jessa is a Seewald too! When's the last time Michelle was referred to as anything but a Duggar?

      Delete
    2. Yes you're right. Jessa is a Seewald now, but she was raised a Duggar. Therefore, that is why people are talking about what the Duggars believe.

    3. Seeing as Ben and Jessa live in a Duggar property, are employed by a Duggar, earn their primary income from a Duggar television show, are seemingly in the Duggar household several times a week, and Ben was permitted to have a relationship with Jessa only after being vetted by her daddy, I think it is relevant to point out inconsistencies in their lifestyle versus what the Duggars - including Jessa - have historically stated they believe.

      Delete
    4. I don't understand the "she's not a duggar anymore" rhetoric. R u saying that jimbob and Michelle make up their own rules off their own whim and force their children to follow until they leave the roost? I thought jimbob and Michelle have studied the Bible extensively and have used the Bible to direct how they should live their lives, while raising their children to do the same. Sounds insincere that the kids would toss to the wind what they have been raised to understand to be a Christian way of living.

    5. The Seewalds follow the exact belief system as the Duggars. The duggars have made it CLEAR that they do not watch tv (aside from the andy Griffen show) and do not DANCE as dancing stirs up desires that can't be righteously fulfilled. These are Michelle and Jim ins exact words and they have expressed this numerous times on thier tv show. The seewalds parents follow the same principals. That is why this is such a big deal bc Jessa and Ben are going against what they have been brought up with. A HUGE risk!!!

    6. Yes I remember an episode where a young Jackson ( less than 2) was dancing to a musical toy in a store and the toy got immediately turned off and Jackson was told no and redirected to play with something else. That's when the duggars explained about dancing and tv.... And that Jackson was merely jumping for joy and not really dancing....

    7. The reason is Jessa along with all the other siblings ( since 14 children ) had always told us viewers that dancing to ANY music was forbidden in their family.THATS why all the comments. Those who have watched this family from day one know what they have told viewers over the years. -Linda

    8. anonymous @6:24.. Jessa is a Seewald by marriage only.

And people comment on what the Duggars believe because Jim Bob controls the family. It is shocking to hear that, given Jim Bob's views on TV and dancing, added to the name the child was given, that the child would be allowed to watch TV and listen to secular Christmas music.

    9. I bet there are so many comments about the Duggars here because this is "The Original Duggar Family Fan Blog".

    10. People can change once they get married. Look at Michelle -- she changed a lot after marrying Jim Bob in terms of her standards and way of dressing.

      Delete
    11. People grow and change, and thank God for that! The Bible tells us to dance. Thank God the married Duggar kids are now realizing that some of the things they were taught as children are not Biblical, so they can have a bit more freedom to enjoy life.

Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. Psalm 149:3

    12. Jessa may have been raised a Duggar, but she and Ben have more modern taste in a lot of things. Plus, I think the Duggars value a lot the fact that when a couple gets married it's a whole new family. I don't have the same opinion, but they strongly believe that the husband is the boss of the family and he decides for the family, with counsel from the wife. So they trust Ben with that. And it's not like they're running of to Vegas. Jessa still wear skirts, they simply listen to music and watch shows that are a little bit more wordly than the Duggars' usual standards.

  5. I forgot to add. With all the sadness that has happened in Hollywood the past couple of days these videos are a joy to watch.

  6. Dancing??? The Peanuts??? Wow, he may almost be like other kids.

  7. That is so sweet..
    Keep being happy Spurg...

  8. I love that the child is allowed to view TV. I would strongly suggest PBS shows. Little Einstein, word world, super why, etc. With adult supervision these shows can be very helpful to create children that can read at at 3 or 4, do math, understand science.

  9. He is a really darling baby! He seems to have a good attention span too, where he's watching that tv.

  10. Spurgeon looks some much like Jessa when she was at that age.
Spurgeon is a Seewald not a Duggar so he can dance if he wasn't to.

I wonder if Ben & Jessa will get a bigger house the one they live in is 2 small for two kids

  11. Very disappointed in Jessa watching the network HGTV! This network with TLC are bigoted toward Christians. HGTV cancelled the Benham brother's show only because they are Bible believing Christians. As a Christian I do not watch or support companies or networks that work against my Christian values. I only watch TLC for the Duggars. Though I only watch TLC for the Duggars I am considering no longer do this and just buying the shows on dvd. Just wonder if doing this will be giving TLC money? Anyway as Christians we must stand against companies and networks that work to destroy our rights.

    1. That show was cancelled because of ratings, nothing more. It has nothing to do with being bigoted towards Christians.

Your "rights" are not being destroyed when other people's rights are being respected. And cancelling a TV show is strictly business.
If it was not that way, the Duggars would have been cancelled years ago.

    2. How, exactly, are your Christian "rights" being destroyed by these networks? Be specific, please.

    3. I wonder if they watch any of the other wonderful programming
on TLC..‼️..hope not......seeing the commercials and previews during their show is bad enough..😳...wish they were on ANY other channel...🎶☮🎶

    4. Betty, you say in one sentence that you won't watch TLC but then in the next you say you watch the Duggars. How is that upholding the values you state you have and your stance to not watch TLC? And yes, any video branded Duggar that you buy puts money in both TLC's pocket and the Duggars. They are in this together, believe it or not. You don't find that odd?

  12. Hey there Jessa, if you happen to read this just wanna say that my favorite TV show is Fixer Upper too. I love the ideas I get for decorating & really love when they involve their cute kids in the program. Spurgeon is so cute & seems like such a happy baby. Congrats on baby # 2 coming soon. God bless.

  13. Thanks for the cute videos. I love to see the various videos they make. Do they still have what I think they call Duggar Productions? I remember them making their own videos and they were put up here. I hope they will make more.

  14. I was at a family member's house for Christmas and they had HGTV on and there was cleavage all over the place say what you want but this family is going downhill that's how it starts letting the little things in

    1. This particular show, Fixer Upper, has not had the cleavage issue to date. Yes, other shows on HGTV but not this one.

    2. Boy , this family gets in on all sides...they r too Christian or not Christian enough...middle of the road is best ...not to radical on either side...lighten up to both sides...seriously...b happy with your own self and let others live how they seem fit for themselves.Live.Laugh.Love✌

    3. You seriously will not watch an entire TV channel because they have some shows with cleavage?

      Delete
    4. It's the commercials that are coming on. I was at another family member's house and they turn on Sprout for my kids to watch, and we were shocked at the commercials that came on that channel targeted for adults.

    5. Being a Christian has nothing to do with cleavage, anyway... Let's be a little less superficial, people!

  18. Fixer Upper fan here, too!

    ReplyDelete
  19. You would think that Jessa and Ben would have Spurge's hair cut already, curls or not...boys have short hair, and girls have long hair...they have said so many times themselves. If the Seewalds have different beliefs than Jessa's parents about dancing, TV watching and hair length, they should state so, so that we are clear about what they are doing and posting.

    1. He's just a small toddler (14 months) with adorable curls. I don't think it's about beliefs or standards, it's just about a cutie and his curls. The tenderness of it and the business of getting ready for another child.
