Another Interview with FLAME

Last month, we posted an interview that Ben Seewald conducted with Christian hip hop recording artist FLAME on the topic of racial tension. Our readers enjoyed it so much that we thought we would share a second interview.

Why Preaching Morals and Positivity is Not Enough

    1. What he's wearing is not important. Listen to what they're talking about.

    2. Why are you being critical of his hat? Maybe you should focus on the message.

    3. I agree, Ben looks out of place trying to look cool.

    4. Why..just why do people feel the need to say such things? Especially on here. Every little opinion you have does not need to be verbalized/printed. Do you realize how it sounds, makes others feel? Build others up, don't tear them down! And learn to look past your own hat prejudice, it was an interview, not Sunday supper.

    9. Complaining about someone's hat is a much sillier look than the hat itself.

      Delete
    10. If you've ever seen Ben in other pics or TV clips, he generally wears his hat that way. I don't think he's trying to look "cool", he's being himself. I wonder if Jesus cares whether he's wearing a hat or not.

      Delete
    11. I honestly don't think Jesus cares if he wears a ha or not, it's the attitude he will have when he wears a hat, no matter how he wears it. I personally prefer no hats, but if they have to be worn, I don't think they should be worn like that. But, as I said before, I don't think it matters what he looks like, it's the attitude he has while he is wearing the hat.

    12. I think Jesus cares more about the worldly hip hop music. I don't think it's right to use the world's methods for God's message.

    13. It's just a comment on him wearing the hat. Chill out.

    14. If his pants start drooping to his knees next, he's really going to need a wake-up call!

    15. What a blessing keep up the work of God Ben!
May God continue to use you in greater ways in 2016.

    16. Guess he needs a hattitude adjustment. :-) Seriously, if the word of God is set to a hip hop beat and saves at least one person by drawing them in then I say hallelujah.

  2. This comment will probably never be published but I don't mean any disrespect. It really disappointed me about the duggar videos and uncommen. Why they choose to do the things they do us a mystery to me. Their true colors are starting to shine and it's not pretty. I take it the Duggars have no affiliation with FLAME? Will there be more public apologies from other groups about being affiliated with the Duggars? That apology from uncommen just shows me that other Christian groups don't think the Duggars are exuding Christian like characteristics. Does this not raise a red flag to anyone????

    1. I think it's more likely that other Christian groups have heard the world's bitter hatred for the Duggars and don't want to hurt themselves by being associated with them. But Jesus warns his disciples over and over that they will be hated by the world if they do what's right.

      Delete
    2. I do not think the world has bitter hatred for the Duggars. I think the Duggars have made the choice to become TV stars and now have to deal with their choices. The Duggars themselves have negatively spoken open and publicly about various groups such as homosexuals.

      Delete
    3. It sounds like Ucommen caved under the pressure of the people who don't like the Duggars and are just trying to stir something up with them. Jim Bob and Michelle were asked by Uncommon to do the video, if the group has since changed their minds about the Duggars I think its sad that they are not considering that any of us can fall into sin. Pornography is prevalent and leads to worse actions that ruin marriages and lives every single day. Why take it out on Michelle and Jim Bob? These people that are asking Uncommen why they are affiliated with the Duggars are the same ones that were criticizing the groups message. This is all very sad.

    4. Why are you wondering why Uncommen wouldn't want to associate with the Duggars? It's a business. If they don't want their business advertised by that family, that's their (Uncommen's) prerogative. They don't owe an explanation, nor do they owe that family any second chances. They obviously didn't want to air those videos, so they pulled them. You want them to now support the Duggars because...you think it's OK that people sin?? How does that tie in with Uncommen's message?

    1. As you said, that was back in the day. It is perfectly acceptable to wear a backwards hat in the 21st century. :)

    3. Ben is only 20--still so very young. He is seeking the Lord and trying to positively impact a generation for Jesus. Get over his hat!!!

    4. Look up (on an etiquette site) the current rules for hats on or off. They have not changed in all these years! They still apply.

  9. The message in the song is good, but I believe that Good ole hymns are the best. Rap, hard rock Christian is to appeal to the flesh not the soul. God bless y'all

    2. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Christian Rap and Christian Rock! My son loves these forms of music and I can assure you they can touch your soul as much as any hymn! There is room for all forms of music in the Church. Whatever song that speakes to your soul, may not be what speakes to mine but that's ok! Just as you and I can read the same scripture and we will learn different things from it. Just because YOU don't like something doesn't mean that it isn't right for someone else. God works in many ways and reaches us all differently! Don't judge others on how they worship. It isn't your place! It's God's!

    3. It's the message that counts.

    4. I prefer soft contemporary. I agree hard rock and rap is kinda weird to hear.

    5. What Bible verse is your opinion based off of?

      Delete
    6. People who haven't been saved out of gnarly lifestyles are easy to spot! I wouldn't be so quick to say what you believe is best. If scripture is silent on a matter, so should we be. Not all of us come from the same place, and the Lord uses all kinds of mediums to reach us because He is THAT GOOD.

    7. Sorry but hymns put me to sleep.

  10. I am impressed with this whole interview/ discussion. First because Ben has actually heard the rap music, then because it is good lyrics! Way to go guys! I love me some Duggars but often we can get to self absorbed with being "clean/perfect" people of the church. You lose touch with the real world and those you are suppose to help.

  11. Hymns are GREAT, but so is rap and hip hop. Just as long as the words honor God or don't dishonor Him. There is no style of music that's off limits. That would just be silly.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ben was wisely sent to Jessa's life and us all, I am thankful!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. How could anyone honestly feel comfortable listening to this style of music in the presence of a holy God, let alone believe that God would find honor in it???

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. What about the style of music (or Christ's teachings) makes you believe God doesn't like it?

      Delete
    2. Why are you putting God in such a tiny box that fits YOUR idea of holy and honor. I have had the privilege of traveling, and I marvel at the various ways different cultures worship the Lord. From the hula in Hawaii to native African dances to beautiful hymns in Europe. God created all nations, tongues and tribes. If you think there is only harp music in Heaven I think you just might be setting yourself up for quite the shock!

      Delete
    3. Easy: the lyrics honor the Holy God and praising Him is comfortable! ;)

      Delete
    4. It's not the style of music, it's the spirit behind that kind of music, if you can discern it

      Delete
    5. Oh.. I didn't realize the style made it holy. Where exactly in scripture are hymns condoned and rap frowned upon? Those are the teachings of man. Thank God we don't have to be chained by that.

      Delete
    6. If we want to be real about it, Hebrew style music, lyrics, and dance came way before any style of music in the last few thousand years. So should we only listen to that?

      Delete
    7. You could only feel comfortable with this style of music if you have changed the character of God to fit what you want it to be. This is a style developed by the world and has no place in the church. This "music" is not conducive to worship.

      Delete
    8. What music do you think is the character of God? Do you only listen to Hebrew music from 2000 years ago?

      Delete
  14. Make a joyful sound unto the Lord. That's right, joyful. What makes you joyful, may not be for me, but I am happy to see the Lord being lifted up in the hearts of men, women, and children of all backgrounds.

The rest of the adult kids at home, I think a few have some construction stuff going on, and the girls take care of the kids and the house.

  17. How can one win the world by being like the world?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. What do you mean "win the world"? The great commission is to preach the gospel, and that is what Flame is doing through his music. Listening to hymns or classical music instead of rap never saved anybody, believing in the gospel of Jesus Christ does. Don't confuse the standards of men with the standards of God. Colossians 2:20-23

      Delete
    2. We are in the world, but not of it. Flame is reaching people in the world so through faith in Jesus they will be transformed out of it. Perhaps Flame has been anointed for such a time as this. I don't think looking like you just came off the prairie singing " bringing in the shelves" is working to much anymore. Even all the Duggar women have adapted their clothing, hair and make-up standards to "worldly" acceptance. I really don't think hip-hop music is going over the edge.

      Delete
  18. God didn't write hymms, men did. Just because they have been around longeright and are "traditional" doesn't mean that is the only way to worship God with music. If you truly listen to the lyrics of so called "contemporary" songs I think you will find the message is the same.

  19. I am reminded of an Oscar Wilde quote: “The old believe everything; the middle-aged suspect everything; the young know everything.”
