Photos: Dillards in Central America

The Dillards have been busy since returning to Central America in October. They were stationed in Guatemala, where Derick attended language school while Jill was tutored at home.

When they weren't studying, Jill and Derick spent time sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with members of their community. (Cute little Israel helps break the ice when meeting new friends.)

What's next for the Dillards? Jill and Derick are beginning their first mission assignment in a new location. More info to come.

  2. Isreal is adorable, but so tall! Pretty soon Jill isn't going to be able to put him in the carrier. Such a lovely young family.

  4. They are actually out there doing the Lords work, while I'm sitting on my bottom not doing as much as I should.Thank you Duggars/Dillards for being my role models, and for your part of influencing myself to do more for others.I am very proud of all that you are sacrificing just to help those in need.Blessings

  5. What does it mean to use the word witness in that way? I don't understand it in that context.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Basically means to share their faith.

      Delete
    2. To share the joy and beauty that the love of Jesus has brought into their lives. And how someone else can also have the same life when they accept Christ as their Lord and saviour. That's how I witness and to pray with them. Just all that Jesus is and all he has given for us and to us. I love the Lord for all that I am and all that I have.

  9. @Anonymous

Great question! We should have been clearer. In this context, "witness" means to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through one's words and actions.

Let us know if you have any other questions. :)

  10. not so sure why derick has choosen leaving a real job once had forgetting about building a real future for his wife jill and their young son plus any other childern they may have. hope if they may choose to stay in this country both may have real jobs to build their own future not just in this type of chruch work which may or be supporting their needs to buy food and supplies on daily needs

    1. They are doing Gods work and he will provide for them

    2. They appear to want to put what God has called them to above having a comfortable living in the US. That is a courageous step to take and they should be admired for it,not criticized. The world would be a better place if we all did the same.

      Delete
    3. Christians are called to live their lives for more than just a comfortable future, because it will not last. Going out into the world and ministering to those in need is a much more fulfilling life goal, because the rewards will last into eternity, rather than just being temporary.

    4. There are missionaries all over the world...the methodist church has them in India Mexico...and several other south americsn countries...I went to school with many for years in Nashville Tenn...they are remarkable people and sacrifice much to teach the love of God for all.

    5. Please Serving the Lord is the best "job" to have. God provides for them.

    6. If you recall he was doing mission work in Napa when they met. Why did you assume that he would quit just because they got married?? I'm sure it's something they talked about before they got married. The Duggars have always gone to Guatemala. So don't get why this is such a shock to you

      Delete
    7. Not just the Methodists are missionaries. I'm not sure about Derick but Jill is Independent Baptist.

      Delete
    8. Jill had said she wanted to do missionary work back when she first started the midwife training and single. Derrick was a missionary when they met. Together they wanted to do this but for the sake of the 19 kids and counting show they didn't. After Josh ruining things for everyone, it was the perfect time to leave, get trained for a SOS position , and get awy from all the drama and scandal

      Delete
    9. I believe they were going to leave and do this before the Josh stuff happened.I remember on the preview for the next season(in which we never got to see due to the cancellation of the show)Jill and Derick made the announcement to the entire Duggar family.:)

      Delete
  11. I just read the SOS ministry statement about the Dillard's being on board!! It a nice gesture for Derrick to focus on helping young men and Jill to focus on women and children's ministry. Both will be helping married couples. The SOS article speaks a lot about how married couples get a lot of neglect when it comes to ministry. If you look up the stats for divorce rates in thier location it is 0.3 while the rates in the US are 3.4. Seems like US marriages need more counsel. Maybe once they are done there they can relocate back to the US and minister here.

  19. Very concerned about Derick's health. He looks so ashen & too thin. Is Derick ok or is his appearance due too still healing from oral surgery. If Derick isn't feeling well, I hope he gets credible medical help. Prayers for Derick.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'm confused about where this recurring theme of concern for Derick's health is coming from. Yes, he is tall and thin, but that is most likely his natural body type as he has always been like this. He in no way looks underweight. As far as him looking "ashen" I don't see this either. In this picture his face is in the shadows, but there have been other recent photos where his complexion looks perfectly healthy.

      Delete
    2. Its cause of his oral surgery. They said he was a liquid diet for weeks. It must be rough.

  22. From the looks of some of the comments, a lot of people don't realize what being a missionary really is. These two were obviously called to this ministry long ago. Not like they just had a child and then jumped up and decided to leave the country. Lot's of people have many children on the mission field. Great job they are doing following their calling.

  33. let them say what ever they want. When you look at random videos and picture, at the kids in the back ground. I never see any angry, disappointed, sulking, disrespectful children. I see happy healthy kids who are having and amazing childhood. They are not perfect, the will have issues, They will be addressed in a Godly manner. So before you spout out your evil thoughts against this family stop and think what have they actually done to you? Don't spend your life going from one thing and another that you hate spend you time celebrating the things that you love. Their fans enjoy them , find hope and Christain fellowship in watching the family PEACE,BLESSING, LOVE and LIGHT

  34. I respect and admire Jill and her family and Jessa and her family. The Duggars have raised 19 kids, with 18 of them turning out beautifully. They are not a cult. They are sincere missionary's and I commend them and their parents. I cannot stand when people are critical on the Duggar's time. Complain on your own posts, people. Leave this family alone. 35. So sweet and I'm glad you shared with us.
People will always say things without proof, its called gossip which no matter who it is or whatever the topic is hurtful. If people would stop and think where the source came from and asked for proof it wouldn't exist.
It's also not a religious act to participate in or start.
Many blessings to this beautiful little family.

  36. This beautiful family has left their comforts of their lives here in the USA and their families to answer Gods call to minister on the mission field. I so admire this couple for answering God calling to be a missionary family. Not for every family with a baby. They have put their lives in God's hands. I keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

  45. Since they are in a predominately Christian country, the people there have already heard the Word of God.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Even if a country is predominately Christian doesn't mean they have heard or know the word of God. Sometimes people show up on your doorstep just at the right time. Just when life couldn't get any worse and your prayer for help is answered.

  55. @Anonymous In "witnessing" they are showing others their belief in Jesus Christ and having Him lead their steps. In other words, using their own Christianity and beliefs to show others.

  56. What biblical and theological training do Jill and Derick have? It takes years of university level study and exams to be able to interpret the meanings in the biblical passages. If one if NOT trained and educated properly in biblical language and study, they are merely giving their own interpretation of scripture; which could be very wrongly interpreted without the education needed to do so correctly. It has been said that's why we need actual clergy for if 100 people read the same passage in scripture, you would come up with 100 interpretations. So, who is correct? The person with the formal training and education. Jesus didn't say "everyone be your own clergy and interpretors of scripture", did he? I don't believe so. That's why we have professionals; like doctors, plumbers, etc. who KNOW HOW TO DO IT RIGHT. I'm not interested in their personal interpretation.
