Amy: 'I hope [Josh] gets the help he needs'

If you have been keeping up with our blog, you know that 2015 was a difficult year for the Duggar family. Amy (Duggar) King--niece of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar--shares her thoughts on her new website.

The Duggar cousin was at a wedding dress fitting when the news of Josh Duggar's pornography addiction and marital unfaithfulness broke. "I was completely shocked just like the rest of the world," she writes in her post. "Rage came over me, sadness crept in, and reality [set] in that the person I had known my entire life turned out to be a fraud and a complete stranger."

Less than three weeks after Josh confessed to being "the biggest hypocrite ever," Amy married Dillon King. Josh had already checked himself into a long-term care facility, but the rest of the Duggar family attended the wedding.

Amy was touched to see Anna at the event. "I gave her a huge hug right before I walked down the aisle, prayed with her, and left her and my Aunt Michelle a letter on their chairs," shares the Duggar cousin.

"I hope [Josh] gets the help he needs," Amy told PEOPLE

The months that followed brought much-needed relaxation for Amy and her new husband, until she received heartbreaking news via a Christmas text from her father. As we shared last week, Amy's father has filed for a divorce from Amy's mother (Jim Bob's sister, Deanna).

Despite the trials that she and her family have faced in 2015, Amy (Duggar) King has determined to "shine for Jesus" in the coming year, putting emphasis on prayer, forgiveness, and acts of service.

  2. Praying for your family, as Christ continues to lead you through the storm. Praying specifically for Josh and Anna. For both their hearts, and a much better year. Amy you stay strong, and we will continue to lift your parents up in prayer as well. We love you guys!

  3. I pray that 2016 is much better and the Lord blesses the Duggars. I hope Josh, whose actions have been the cause of most of their 'heartache' year, gets the help he needs.

  4. Yes it has been a rough year for the Duggars given their gran / son's / Brother /in laws ungodly Choices. BUT it is MORE than time to move on from that whole thing. Every time I read a new story about the Duggar say about one of the new babies in the family, the media go and add Josh's now very well known issues into the story. You would have to be an eskimo living in a fish bowl way under the sea and then some - not to have heard all about it. It is such a shame that the media wish to smear every good story with a reminder of josh's really bad choices. Its time to move on from all of that. josh doesn't have to be included in the current family updates anymore. He knows he is in discrace with both his family, who I am sure still love him despite how much he has hurt them and others by his actions, and the public. He has still got along way to go to be able to earn the trust of others again which I am sure he knows. But the rest of the family Doesn't need to be dragged through the mud and constantly reminded of his very fool hearty ways and that very much includes Anna whom we should be supporting with our prayers and as to whatever she eventually chooses to do firstly for herself and then for her young family of 4 children.

    1. I agree, well said. They should be allowed to move on and live their lives like everyone else. I do not agree with what Josh did, however, the entire family should not continue to be punished (especially the little children who do not fully comprehend what has occurred). God bless...

  5. Has TLC put episode 3 out for viewing? I'd love to be able to see that one too if possible

  6. Amy is clearly trying to keep her name is the spotlight by turning on Josh and the family. That is just plain twisted. What is wrong with this entire family? Why do they have such an incredible need for fame? Why don't they truly take time out to heal as a family--outside of the public eye? Are they afraid to actually have to work regular jobs to earn a living---or the draw of so much money from TV has just become to powerful? We have all witnessed what reality TV does within families---just can't understand why they would want to destroy themselves for a few dollars.

    1. What is wrong with you?!? I mean seriously, this is a beautiful, wonderful, and Godly family and I don't think it's right for you to tear them down! Have a heart!

    2. Huh?? You must not follow the family much. They do work regular jobs just like the rest of us, JB is in real estate, John is a pilot and firefighter, Jana is working on midwifery and is a first responder, Jill is a midwife and missionary, Derrick is an accountant and missionary, Ben is a handyman, Michelle Anna and Jessa are stay at home moms. And that's just what I can remember off the top of my head. They work, they serve, they're not these money hungry mongrels the media makes them out to be.

  7. I am so very sad to see that you are continuing with this situation Yes Josh did wrong and yes JB and M mishandled it BUT we have been inundated with it for too long. It is Josh and Anna's situation, not ours. You are doing what the media wolves are doing and that is continuing to flood us with this incident. It also seems that Amy rides the voattails of whatever drama is happening. I'm very disappointed in this blog

  8. I realize what Josh has done is an awful thing but my gosh, everyone acts like he is the only Christian man that has cheated on his wife. I go with the old adage, "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone." Christians aren't perfect. Just forgiven.

    1. No true "Christian" man can cheat on his wife while still retaining a relationship with God.

    2. I just can't stop thinking about poor Anna, I'm glad that she is strong enough to forgive Josh, she's a better woman than I can ever be. But I just can't help but think about how much this whole situation will hurt long term. Will she be able to bring herself to have another child for Josh? And every time they share intimate moments, will she think about how she isn't the only woman that Josh has loved in that way? Just imagine how much pain it will cause when their kids are older and they find out about what their father has done. Will his sons be able to look up to their father as a role model? Will his daughters be able to trust him with their hearts? Anna will have doubts about Josh in the back of her head every time he leaves the house for a few years, and nothing will ever be normal again. I can almost cry just thinking about how much someone else's choices can completely ruin other people's lives, it's truly sickening knowing that Josh consciously did this to his precious wife and children. Lord have mercy upon his soul.

    3. I agree-it's sad but come on. It's between he and his wife and as long as we keep posting on it it will continue. Let's make a concerted effort to desist in this mess, surely there is lots more to talk about?

  9. I'm surprised the rest of the Duggars associate with her, since she obviously dated without courtship or kissing rules, wears pants, wears tight clothes, listens to rock music, drinks, dances, etc. In other words, she's a normal 20-something. Why do they OK her lifestyle but not others? Serious question.

  10. Television needs a decent reality show that's why. This family is a great witness to how to hold up under pressure and we all need that. Reality shows are about real life and instead of hiding under a rock this family is showing how its done. Great job!

  16. This is old news. Can we please not talk about Josh anymore!? I want to hear what the other children are up to. What are John and Jana up to these days? What are their plans for the future? What is Jinger doing these days? Is she planning to go to college? What is Joe studying in college? What is Josiah planning on doing for a career? Does Josiah have college plans? What about Joyanna? She graduates in a few months. Does she have college plans?

    1. I think Jana is doula she also helps with interior design on Jim Bob's properties she also heads up a youth group called "journey to the heart" Jinger and Joy Anna do tileing laying with some of the older boys at Jim bobs properties. And the older girls also help Michelle out. Joseph Duggars is away at Crown college in Tennessee. Like 20/30 minutes from the Bates.

    2. And also John David is a volunteer fire fighter 1st responder and is also a police officer (I think is a VOLUNTEER police officer as well but not sure) and pilot.

  17. This article seems to infer that Josh is not doing well. We are waiting for some word that he is repentant and working on his messed up life and that he and Anna are doing alright. Which is it? This article is confusing.

  18. #15--just because we stop talking about the situation doesn't make it go away, nor does it fix the problem.

  19. Me too Amy me too

  20. I don't think we should be passing judgment on who is a "true Christian." Remember, despite all David's sins, God said David was a "man after my own heart." God alone knows the heart.

  21. Wow, I look up to Amy so much. What a godly attitude she has towards all of this!
