Exclusive Duggar Wedding Details Part 2

Earlier this week, we shared details from part one of Ellie's interview with Sierra, one of Jill and Derick's wedding planners. Let's take a look at part two.

Like many 21st century brides, Jill resorted to Pinterest to find ideas for cute wedding decorations. She purchased much of her supplies on Craigslist from a woman in her area who had tied the knot six months earlier.

Inside the church, the aisles were decorated with Bible verses printed on tree stumps, purchased on Craigslist.

I don't even know how it would be to go and say, 'Hey, can you print 1 Corinthians on some tree stumps for me?' So that saved us on cost, which was really beneficial.

At the wedding reception, guests snacked on sweet and salty foods, all prepared by volunteers.

I'm telling you, my volunteer team was dynamic. It was so incredible. We had stations set up all over Springdale, Arkansas...the week before.

Sierra was told to plan for 3,000 guests, although only 1,000-1,500 attended.

Sweet Table

Sweet Table
3,000 servings of cake brought in from across the nation
3,000 Rice Krispie treats
2,000 cupcakes
3,000 chocolate chip cookies baked at a cookie making party at the Duggars' house
3,000 root beer floats

Salty Table
Popcorn
Trail mix
Pickles
Chips and homemade salsa made by one of Jill's clients

Although Sierra had a blast helping Jill plan the perfect Pinterest wedding, the highlight for her was ensuring that Derick's mom, who is battling cancer, was able to stay close by her son's side throughout the reception. Derick's mom missed the rehearsal dinner and arrived at the wedding in a wheel chair directly from the hospital.

I really didn't have to be an intense wedding coordinator at all because everyone was so loving and so joyful, but whenever it was time for Mama Cathy to watch her son cut [the] cake, I was like, 'Hey, move back, move back!'

That was probably something I will carry in my heart forever, just watching the beauty of a young couple really honor the Lord, really know that they love each other...and then watching this young couple continue to honor their parents to the day of their wedding and beyond.

    1. I'd say that I know at least several hundred people. And I'm not famous. Remember there've been in a lot of different states and country's. Surely they've made some friends along the way. Also I'm sure that all the guests were not intimate friends. Lol!

  5. SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL I THINK WE CAN ALL LEARN LOADS OF THINGS FROM THE DUGGAR FAMILY..SAVING MONEY VOLUNTEERING ALL SORTS OF THINGS..I have read about security and no pictures so I truly hope they stay the way they are and all the attention dont go to their heads and they start acting like other people who are in the spotlight.i truly love this family and picked up lots of tips and advice.but to have security ??Umm yea they didnt have security when it was 14 children and pregnant again stay humble duggars:)

    1. It would be totally irresponsible not to have security. They are more popular and known and recognizable than ever. There are alot of crazies out there these days. Its not them being not humble to protect there beautiful family.

    2. That is so true. I love that they are not taking the attention to the head

  6. I can't wait to see their wedding on TV! I love how jill saved so much money by using used stuff and making homemade things! :)

  7. The tree stump decorations are so cute and creative!

  8. The stumps are cute but just the thought of Craiglist freaks me out because of all the bad things you hear happening because of that site. I'm a bit confused about the cake 3000 servings brought from all over the nation so what did they have multiple cakes from different states? Very sweet how they handled Derick's mother.

    1. I can answer that, and i wasn't even there, the answer is a big NO. They dont believe in dancing.Maybe they did in their honeymoon suite. I hope so, it can be such a beautiful thing to do with the one you love.

  11. I'm very glad Derick mom got special treatment and was able to enjoy this special day.
Just curious does no one RSVP anymore? Maybe not, it seems like at my kids birthday parties I rarely get an RSVP but plenty of kids show up. I would think with many of the families attending from out of the area, they could text, email or call and RSVP so Jill could have had an accurate count. There is a big difference between 3000 and 1000. I guess since the food was fun and not a formal sit down dinner, the extras could be easily taken by guests. Just imagine if she had a sit down dinner and 2000 extra dinners got made and not eaten.
Thanks for all the inside updates!

  14. Since the new blog picture omitted Ben, I will stop going to the blogs and anything that omits him. I love Jill's wedding and I can believe the Duggars would omit someone who adores them and their child. For months I have been all about the Duggars but maybe I should look into finding a true christian family.

    1. That's a really odd thing to say. He isn't even a member of their family yet. I'm sure when, and if, he and Jessa marry, he will then be included.

    2. Just because Ben is not in the new blog banner doesn't mean the Duggars are not a "true Christian family." It does, however, appear that, outside of family, the banner will only include spouses -- of which Ben is not.

The Duggar family does not dance, so I am going to guess the answer was no.

  16. Love the creative touches, beautiful and frugal. I wish the DIllards every ounce of happiness as they start their new life together as husband and wife.

  17. I wonder why the attendance number ended up being so low. Very cute wedding though.

  18. Why is it that there are no pictures of the wedding, or family being posted? It seems odd and I don't want to say what I think :o because it looks kinda like a control thing. :(

  19. Very pretty pew arrangements and the goodies sound yummy! :)

  20. @Anonymous The Duggars don't dance nor do they drink alcohol.

  21. I love hearing all about the wedding!! Thanks so much for posting.
I love the new header, BTW!!
    God bless!!

  22. It would be nice to see those pieces of wood with scripture to be used as decorations in their house, a nice wall or something.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I stay away from Craigslist. I have heard MORE bad than good about that site.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I wonder what they did with all the leftovers?

    ReplyDelete
  25. So they just had snacks for their guests and no filling food?
    Just wondering...

  26. I knew about the no drinking thing I remember once the girls told about how they accidently drank spiked punch I had no idea about the no dancing thing. as too the person complaining about Ben not being in the header He's not married to a Duggar so of course he won't be up there I'm sure if him and Jessa do marry they will place his picture with hers.

  34. Thank you for sharing!
I hope and pray Derick's mom is on the road to recovery now.
The thought of Craigslist is kinda scary but glad it worked out for the best in this case.
Great to see so many enjoyed and shared that special day.

Sierra deserves a big congratulations for all her efforts and caring commitment to the family and task at hand. Having such small children herself and balancing all the shared responsibilities of planning is just amazing. I would have gladly been a defensive end to clear the way for his mom to see everything that day.....I guess us mom's are like that with each other.

Looking forward to the new season here on the blog and watching all the details for myself. Shame they are still filming and family does not have a break from us.

All the best & Thank you for sharing

  39. Jane Corvers' comment is hilarious! Not including someone who's not a member of your family in a family picture has nothing to do with being true Christians! And to the person who commented on having security indicating that they're not humble, that doesn't make any sense either. Thank you, Lily and Ellie, for all the wedding details and pictures! It's hard to wait so long to actually see the wedding show on TLC, but this helps a little bit. :)

  40. Is Jill on Pinterest? Or any of the Duggars for that matter?

  41. Everyone looked so lovely and happy!! I've been waiting patiently for a make up tutorial video and a spray tan tutorial because I enjoyed the video on the hair styling so much. The Duggar ladies always look flawless and I'd like some instruction from them if you would consider posting one again? Thank you

  43. Very nice ideas. It looks like the wedding was beautiful in so many different ways. Just wondering how is Derick ' s mom doing? I hope she can beat the cancer. I will be praying for her.

  44. The pictures are absolutely beautiful and ideas awesome but why have we not seen more pictures of the Dillard family. It seems like they have been forgotten. Can we more pics of the Dillard's. Prayers for Derick's mom and a speedy recovery. Amen

  45. I'm curious how those 3,000 invited guests were "invited"? Do these type of families just mail out invites to everyone and estimate 50 % will actually show? Also, why are the receptions only snack type food and not a meal? How long does the average reception last?

    ReplyDelete
  46. yes, Jill has a pinterest account but i think that she set it up mainly for wedding planning purposes.

  47. Is comment 36 (about the header) 'THE Jana'?!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Did the guests expect more filling food? Was there a dinner afterwards for specific guests and hungry people? I understand being frugal, and the delicious dessert tables, but hope that people wouldn't be resentful that they may have traveled far to get to the wedding, and then go home hungry. Any comments?
