Keep Calm and Carry On (Duggar-Style)

In the following TLC video blog entry, Michelle Duggar shares about the time years ago when God convicted her of her anger issues.

"Instead of raising my voice, at that point, by God's grace, I chose to lower my voice and even whisper," says the mommy of 19. "When I wanted to get their attention, I realized, I didn't have to raise my voice. I could just speak in a normal tone."

"I respect my children...and I expect them to respect others."

  7. I have been struggling with the same issue!! So glad this was posted! God has really convicted my heart lately and I think God used Michelle to help me control my anger! I have identical twin girls that argue all the time and I have been trying not to get upset! Thanks Michelle! You are truly an inspiration and thanks for sharing!

  8. God has truly blessed her children with a mother who listens to and applies His Word to her life.

I pray that my children will see that I am also trying to follow Him even though I fail often.

  9. It is never too late to correct yourself if you've gone astray. Even if your children are grown, you can learn to do better with your grandchildren. You can apologize to your grown children and learn to control your temper by giving it up to God.

God truly can equip and help you in every little thing.

  11. Michelle is a joyful, beautiful messenger of God! The wisdom through scripture she passes on are wonderful blessings to the families she touches through their tv program and your blog!
Learning how to be the very best parent one can be, SHOULD BE a required course of study throughout the educational process (public schools would benefit immensely)! How very different the lives of millions would be if they followed these very simple teachings. I would love to hear or read about the 'consequences' that work for the Duggar and/or Bates families when teaching about what happens when someone isn't doing the right thing or disrespecting others and mom or dad had to get involved, but the problem persisted. Does the problem EVER continue past their involvement and if so, what is done to solve it (and scripture reference please)?
Thank you all for sharing this amazing family with the world!

It's never to late! It will take work, perseverance and patience but "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". My advice is to try what Michelle does, pray a lot and stick by your convictions.
I pray that you and your family will see God's hand working in your lives!

  13. This is wonderful and encouraging! Thanks for your advice Michelle. It is wonderful wisdom for me, as a mom of 3 little boys. It's easy to raise my voice, but I know that it's not necessary and not the way God wants me to raise my children. I love the quote: "I respect my children, and I expect them to respect others." That's it exactly! How can they respect others if they don't first learn respect through their relationship with us?!
