Engagement Message from Joseph and Kendra

Yesterday was a big day for the Duggar family. Joy-Anna Duggar married Austin Forsyth, and Joseph Duggar proposed to girlfriend Kendra Caldwell at the reception...and she said yes! The future Mr. and Mrs. Duggar share a message with fans in the video below.

  1. So happy for you guys. It's a good change to see finally another sugar son getting married. Life is changing fast and for the good in the sugar house. God is good.

    1. Auto correct on that device must be unfamiliar with the word Duggar (lol)!

  2. I didn't realize they had rules as to what you can say during each step as well. Now they can hold hands and say "I love you"?? The rules just keep multiplying.

    1. It could be her family's rules.

      Delete
    2. Well Kendra is not a Duggar so she does things differently. Jessa and Ben said I love you before they were in an official relationship.

    3. Is there a rule that someone can not be creative and come up with the idea of planning to have another engagement announcement right after a wedding ceremony? This was a neat surprise, a bit out of the box or norm and was a blast! Lighten up people, don't get yourkicks from criticizing, stay positive and get some amusement and happiness from a surprise announcement of another marriage right after a marriage!

    4. I was shocked when I heard the i love you one but I just think it's a way to.protect their hearts to hold off on saying until they are sure they wanna be married. I guess after the engagement their hearts would be more open to love without much fear of heartbreak..it's a mental n emotional thing maybe. But let's not judge as long as it's not again the word of God they're good =)

    6. Jessa said that every court ship is different and the couples choose the rules.

    7. Who cares. I think it's a beautiful representation of a loving relationship. One that will last a lifetime and won't be another divorce statistic. Love wins every time. They aren't committed and are strong for being able to hold those commitments. Well done duggars

      Delete
    8. Just because people don't believe in divorce doesn't mean the marriage will be a happy and successful one. It just means they won't get divorced no matter what their relationship turns out to be like.

      Delete
    9. JB and Michelle have stood the test of time, but their children are basically just starting out on married life. There's no way to predict the future behavior of any of them.

      Delete
    10. 11:33 PM -- I remember hearing on Focus on the Family, I think it was, that most couples contemplating divorce who do not go through with it but work on their marriages report that they are happy with their marriages 5 years later. (Of course, there are the cases of abuse in which divorce is the only option.)

I really like her she seems so down to earth.
They seem like a great match!

    1. I hope Joseph can do well for her and his future family.
It seems he is committed to make best efforts.
Kendra is a sweet young lady. I'm glad her father is their for additional guidance.

  4. I didn't realise they couldn't say 'I love you' until they were engaged. It seems a little extreme to me.

    1. Maybe that was a personal choice? I remember his siblings saying that during courtship.

      Delete
    2. Personal choice highly influenced by upbringing, you mean.

      Delete
    3. I believe I've heard Michelle talk about "giving away pieces of your heart" is something one should avoid. Not every courtship could lead to proposal, therefore, saying I love you without engagement would be seen in Duggars eyes as "Giving away a piece of your heart"! I'm sure Kendra must share those believes too or her and Joe probably wouldn't have been courting to begin with. Now everyone will understand what Kendra meant about not saying I love you prior to engagement. If they ended up not marrying, it would be what we call as bringing "baggage" into future relationship with someone new.

      Delete
    4. Jinger told Babe she loved him lots of times.

      Delete
    5. No, it's their personal choice. If you watch the season during Jessa's courtship, even Jinger said, that each courtship is different and they set up their own rules.

      Delete
    6. During Jessa's and Ben's courtship, Ben did refer to Jessa as his girlfriend.

      Delete
    7. I think that's a Caldwell family rule cause everyone knows Jinger wasn't waiting to say I love you lol

      Delete
    8. Didn't Jinger repeatedly say, "Love you, Babe," before they were engaged?

      Delete
    9. I never understood the "giving away pieces of your heart" idea. I have loved several two in my life, and I don't feel that my heart is any less intact. If anything, I know now what I want in a man, what's most important to me.

  5. Chapter 5? What is he talking about? Sounds like some sort of bankruptcy proceeding.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. He said chapter of life

      Delete
    2. Chapter of life.

      Delete
    3. he said "chapter of life", which i noticed right away because they tend to usually say "season of life"

      Delete
    4. Joseph said new chapter of life not chapter 5.

      Delete
    5. I hear "new chapter 5." The sound quality in that room is pretty bad, and he says this as he turns away from the camera.

  6. Awe! You two are adorable! So happy for you! Congratulations!

  7. Kendra comes across as being really young and naive. Now they can hold hands and say I love you. Surely you would not accept a marriage proposal without knowing that the other person loves you? Are they not allowed to make such a declaration before engagement? Perhaps they would be too embaressed to say that to each other with the ever present chaparone hovering in the background. She has also mastered the adoring gaze all the duggar women do when their man speaks, she will fit in with the family nicely.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah..you're going to tell a man you want to marry him, but not tell him you love him without an engagement??

      Delete
    2. Can they "Baaaaaabe!!!" each other now, too? Or is that Chapter 6?

      Delete
    3. You shouldn't judge someone that you have no clue about and know personally for what day you will be judged by the greatest court of all. And if you actually watched the seasons they have explained that each courtship is different and they set up their own rules.

      Delete
    4. Maybe they said it to each other, just not as frequently

      Delete
  8. Joy should have had her day in the spotlight and Kendra should have had hers (separately). I think it was inconsiderate of Joseph to expect these two events to share one moment. Seems to me Joseph was thinking more of himself (and the TV show) than how he could honor his fiancee. Aren't you supposed to put others' feelings ahead of your own?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I mean he was polite enough to ask permission, and since it was Joy and Austins wedding I feel it was really up to their choice.

      Delete
    2. No, he has permission from the bride and groom. And I guarantee he was doing it for love, not a tv show unless you know them personally and sharing their inside information. Wow. You should leave.

      Delete
    3. I'm not sure that it was his choice. It may have been planed this way by TLC or his father for the show.

      Delete
  9. This seems as if it was all (wedding and proposal) done and timed for the cameras and the next season of the show. It also seems like something Jim Bob would do. His sons sure emulate him, don't they.

    1. That's what I was thinking as I watched. A young Jim Bob.

  11. So Joe asked Joy and Austin a couple of weeks before the wedding if he could propose. I am sure Joy did not feel she could say no because that is how she has beem raised. Her name stood for Jesus first, other second and yourself last. I feel it was wrong of joe to put his sister in that position on what was HER special day.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agreed, 12:29. Joe should have picked another day not only for his sister's sake but for Kendra's sake, too! She should not have had to share the spotlight on what should have been her special day. Cute for the camera, maybe, but private and personal and considerate? Not at all.

      Delete
    2. Didn't Austin propose at Jingers wedding... clearly this is not an issue for their not family.

      Delete
    3. I get really tired of women who insist that the wedding day is only for the bride ("HER special day"). No, a wedding is a fun event for the whole family, both the bride's and the groom's families. That's why there are so many unhappy marriages & so many divorces -- because of selfish women who want all the spotlight on them. So sad. I made sure to include both sides of the family in my wedding and neither my husband nor I felt it was the most important day -- no, it was one lovely day in a long life of happiness together. Best wishes to both Joy & Austin and Joe & Kendra.

    5. 12:29 you don't know her personally so you can't say that she could not say no. If that was my brother, of course I would let him propose to his love. I think its really sweet.

  13. I am glad that he asked joy-anna before hand, but I still think it was tacky. Congrats on JA and Austin on their marriage. I love her dress!!! I do wish Joseph and Kendra all the happiness int he world.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Tacky? It's a change. Hardly anyone does that anymore and I think it's very special and nice that his sister let him do it. In fact, Kendra wouldn't expect a proposal at a wedding at all. It's perfect! ^_^

  14. Wishing them happy lives together.
I hope it was Joseph's idea and NOT JB &/or M's idea for them to announce the engagement at Joy's wedding.
Yes, it should have been done at another time

    1. The parents don't control the children the way you and some people say they do unless you know them personally. As far as we know, Joseph asked his sister and future brother-in-law permission to propose to Kendra. Why assume anything else unless you know them PERSONALLY?

      Delete
    2. Why do you guys always have to be so negative here? If you dislike the Duggars so much then why are you here?! Everything they do they catch hate for. Why not get engaged at a wedding?! My best friend and maid of honor got engaged at my wedding reception and we thought it was great. Enough of the negativity.

      Delete
    3. Exactly! It's their business. Just because he didn't have a "big"style proposal. It was with family, simple and yet more moving than a huge production. Good job Joe!

      Delete
  15. Congratulations!
TLC didn't help some of the engagement photos and Joseph wasn't aware how he looked which is sad. They should have worn him about his posture and jacket.
I don't think Joseph will ever live down combining Kendra special day with his sister's. It's just not done.
No matter what the reason I do hope they can have a long happy life together.

  16. Congrats! But do you mean to tell me they were not allowed to say I Love You before engagement? Their speech is regulated?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think it was a cute idea, and both their families were there, Congratulations

  18. Oh thank you Lord I am so happy for you two. Congratulations and I'm looking forward to the wedding day. God is so good 😊

  19. Congrats from my mom and I. God bless.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wow Kendra seemed VERY scripted probably because of her nerves or shines but it was big time! I hoop they will start to feel more at ease with eachtother before marriage

    ReplyDelete
  21. They fit folks! Joy and Austin fit together beautifully and so does this pair. I admire joy and austin for giving permission to let Joseph propose at their reception. A wedding is about celebrating love and commitment. In a world where weddings are becoming a stage production, the fact the duggars keep wedding planning time minimal and make sure to remember the seriousness of the day is refreshing. I would hope in similar shoes, I would have be happy to share the my moment with a sibling for a few minutes. It's not like it changes the whole focus of the reception. Joy is such a beautiful bride. Radiant! That Austin seems very much like her dad. I predict great happiness. Remember happiness is best spent shared.

  22. I don't understand what Joe meant when he said they can now minister together. Can someone explain? I'm struggling to understand the rules that always crop up whenever one of the Duggars announce a courtship/engagement.

  28. This message felt fake ... They don't look head over heels in love like Jessa and Ben or Jinger and Jeremy. I hope it's just because they are shy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I feel like they pushed him to propose for the show! At the beginning or the end of a season of thé show, either they announce a pregnancy or an engagement. I think they did that because Jinger is not yet pregnant or doesn't want to be announcing soon.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's not really any of my business and if it was o.k. by Joy and Austin, so be it. I think if I had been Kendra though, I'd have been embarrassed to be proposed to at someone else's "main event". It looks like upstaging whether it is or not. I'm not quite sure what Joseph was thinking here. He should have let Joy have her day and the stage to herself.

  31. Congratulations Joe and Kendra, you are a gorgeous couple xx

  32. Well there goes your header again.

  33. So happy for all the Duggar children and a little sad for Jim Bob and Michelle. I know it must be really hard to have more of their babies fly the nest. They have all married Godly spouses which is a big blessing.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Congrats to this wonderful couple! When they should/should not get engaged and how/when when they say "I love you" is their own decision. This was an announcement, not an invitation for opinions. Thank you to those who run this blog and let us know about these announcements so we can rejoice with and pray for this sweet couple!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would agree with your comment if the Duggars kept their announcements private among just family and friends. However, when you make it public on any form of social media, you are inviting criticism. Considering the money they are making in the process, rest assured it's unlikely that they are or will be influenced by the naysayers.

  35. it's so great to see one of the boys in a relationship! being the 3rd oldest boy it really comes as no surprise. somehow, i dont see joseph making the engagement as "elaborate" as josh, derick, ben & jeremy did. nothing wrong with the way they proposed, its just i get the impression joseph is much more introverted. they seem like such a sweet couple too. cant wait to see more of them!

  38. Joe and Kendra both seem shy and uncomfortable in front of the cameras. I wonder if any of the kids can "opt out," like some of the kids on "little people, big world?"

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Jacob Roloff is the only one of the Roloff children to 'opt out' of little people big world and I admire him for it. He said that he could see TLC making up and manipulating storylines for the show, making his family look a certain way when he knew it wasn't true. He did have a temporary falling out with his 0parents over money, although that has been resolved. I cannot see any of the Duggar children doing this as they have been raised in a very sheltered way and not to question their parents.

      Delete
    2. It's time for most of TLC's participants to opt out of their shows, not just the Duggars... That network needs a complete overhaul and housecleaning.

  39. Is it just me or were all the Duggar girls/Kendra wearing dark navy dresses at the wedding? Were they bridesmaids?

    1. i don't think we know who the bridesmaids were yet. I would presume she would have had a few of her sisters. I am very excited to see pictures. Also I am wondering if any of the Bates girls were involved as Joy-Anna was close to Tori and Carlin.

  40. Congratulations to Joseph & Kendra - so lovely to see Joseph finally blossoming & showing his true self - makes me the older boys have not had the platform to shine within the duggar family being so large - his whole countenance changes in the video as he looks at Kendra & he reminds me of Jacksons cheeky grin.

  41. Looks like Joseph is happy that the stress is over after proposing. Congratulations to them both.

  42. Funny how some are so stressed about where he proposed. I think it was a cute idea, and he did it with Joy's blessing. Must have come as a total shock to Kendall. She is adorable, and I wish them well.

  43. Something about their dynamic makes me uncomfortable. I can't put my finger on it but it seems forced as if they're checking off boxes or something. In this and other videos, Kendra (although very adorable) comes off as being very naive and immature.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Why would Joe be stressed in proposing? That is the objective of their courting belief. If she wasn't interested in him, she would call the courtship off, wouldn't she? In continuing to court, she's a shoe in to say yes.

    1. My husband and I had talked about marriage before he proposed. He was still nervous when he asked me. He wanted everything to go perfectly, but plans don't always work out exactly right.
