'Jill & Jessa: Counting On' Finishes Strong

Jana Duggar, Anna Duggar, and Joy Duggar make freezer meals
during the third segment of Counting On

As we reported two weeks ago, the first segment of Jill & Jessa: Counting On attracted just over 2.2 million viewers, received a rating of 0.8, and ranked among the top eight cable shows for adults 18-49 that aired on Sunday, December 13th.

The second segment of Counting On, which aired on Sunday, December 20th, received a rating of 0.7 and a viewership of nearly 1.9 million and ranked among the top 14 cable shows for that day.

But here's the good news: The third and final segment of Jill & Jessa: Counting On, which aired two days after Christmas, did even better than the first two! Although the rating was 0.8, part three made it into the top five cable shows among adults 18-49 and drew in nearly 2.5 million viewers.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta remained the highest ranked and most watched show on each of these days.

  1. So happy the ratings were strong! I really enjoyed the series and would like to keep up with Jill and Derricks missionary work, Ben and Jessa's new life with their precious baby and how Anna and her children are dealing with their heartache. They are such an inspirational family and have dealt with a devastating situation with dignity, grace and forgiveness. I have sent my wishes for an entire series to TLC. Thank You Lily and Ellie for keeping us updated! Love your blog!

    3. Watch it on Amazon instant video or on iTunes.

    4. I bought the whole season on iTunes for 5 bucks. It's cheap and easier to watch on your own time. I don't have TV or cable either. I literally watch everything online.

  4. This family needs privacy and prayers. Not additional airtime when they continue to get into dangerous situations for drama and ratings. The two birth experiences of Jill and Jessa are terrifying and they were lucky to survive. I don't want the family back on the air because I think they've been engaging in steadily more dangerous decisions. I like their focus on faith and family, but they need less fame, not more. I don't understand how anyone who claims to like the Duggars could support the ongoing damage that their fame has clearly caused. No more airtime, in support of their healing.

    1. The women of the family, and many of their religion, also, habitually have babies at home. It didn't start with this show.

      Delete
    2. The two birth experiences if Jessa and Jill were not caused by being on camera and their birth choices were perfectly safe. It is unfortunate they had complications but they were normal medical complications that could not have been foreseen.

      Delete
    3. Actually, had they been in the care of a doctor or a nurse midwife, their complications would have been foreseen, especially Jessa's. A large baby is a risk factor for hemorrhage. I doubt any medical professional would have recommended they labor so long at home or give birth at home, based on the size of their babies.

      Delete
    4. I had a healthy 10lb10 oz baby boy at home, and he was a hvbac. My doctor and certified midwife were all on board with the birth. My baby was also late by American standards. I would recommend some research and maybe reading Ina May Gaskin's books. Long labored are not uncommon, but interventions to shorten labor in hospitals are often encouraged for multiple reasons, which usually have nothing to do with the mothers health. Our country has some of the worst maternal and infant mortality rates in the western world, and it has nothing to do with the small percentage of home births.

  13. I watched the first one & then due to work I had to watch the rerun for the second part but caught the third. I really enjoyed watching the girls & the way they are running their families but mainly I wanted to comment on Anna. When they were asking her about her marriage I was so happy with her response & only hope that if I had to walk in her shoes for any reason that I would be as strong as she is & show my husband what God's love really is about.

  17. I just wanted Anna to know she's definitely not alone in the pain she is enduring in her marriage. My husband began serving a sentence Nov 23rd for inappropriate posts on our home computer. He kept a porn addiction hidden that goes back to age 12. His addiction escalated beyond his control upon learning his 35 yr old son had terminal brain cancer. I am left questioning how I didn't know. We were adopting children in our care for 2 yrs when his arrest happened and the kids were taken from our home forever. It was the end of my motherhood dreams and now I'm trying to adjust with being married to a felon that until this had only a speeding ticket. It really hit home when I heard Anna say she didn't want to react and turn a mess into a disaster. I feel exactly the same way. A lot of people including my family do not support my decision to stand by my husband, but I believe God brought us together for a reason and my husbands soul is precious. Thank you Anna for speaking out during what I'm sure is the most challenging time in your life. Your words were an encouragement for me.

  21. Haha ... Of course the other reality series was leading ... since it features divorce, fornication, drunkenness, lesbianism, adultery, fighting, and a host of other unwholesome stuff ... Yeah, who would want to watch a series about a sincere family who as a whole tries to do what they know to be wholesome, moral and good and avoid all the formerly mentioned things? #entersarcasm #sorrynotsorry

    ReplyDelete
  22. I hope that with these amount of ratings the Specials got, maybe now TLC will now feel like it's the right time to put them back on the show.
I'd be so funny that tomorrow (Jan 1) they announce that as a New Year's Resolution, they've decided to return the Duggars back on air. ^_^

  26. When I see the Duggar family I see a God-loving family who have raised an incredible family. I don’t see perfection, I see human beings, good honest people. I see talent and tolerance and kindness and generosity; I see respect and love, support and strength. I see a family who chose a Godly path to follow, who by no way professed to be perfect, but allowed us to see how God has blessed their lives. The sadness that came to light this summer could be any of us, or our loved ones, for we are not perfect either. When I see the public casting stones at the Duggars because of that, I shake my head and wonder who are we to judge them. I have enjoyed watching Jill and Jessa share their stories, and I was so happy to see Anna and her babies. This family is incredible and they are blessing to many of us who followed their lives. When the rest of the world becomes perfect then maybe there is a story here, but until such a time, I humbly ask that TLC bring back one of the most incredible group of human beings ever.

I cried along with them.I think Jill and Jessa and Anna did great job and they should be on every week .I would also look to see their whole family back on TLC. Some people are so ignorant and nasty and seem to be a little jealous of The Duggar Families ,at least that is the feeling I get. I am proud of the way they handle every thing. May God bless the entire Duggar Families and keep them under his tender lovingly care.xoxoxo.

  51. Totally agree with #4. For the sake of the children I think the Duggars should go out of the media spotlight via a reality show for a few years anyway and spend some time healing and making sure the kiddos are okay. Especially the younger ones. They need extra parental attention.

  56. Time for the Duggars to take a break from reality tv. It isn't healthy for the children to grow up under the scrutiny of the public eye. Plus, they need to buckle down to their school work and have some educational experiences, not television experiences.

At Amy's wedding the where standing next to each other (note that Trace was on the other side of her holding Anna's son Michael) and also they recently made a trip to Tennessee to see the razorbacks play the bates favorite team. Also she photobombed a selfie that he posted online. So not Joy Anna sense she is 18 and he's 23. More likely Jinger sense she is 22 and he is 23.

  65. I love the Duggar family, especially the older daughters. I hope this 3 episode special develops into a series. I'd also like to mention I'm not a Christian and do not believe in God. I do believe in good family values and morals. This family may be extreme in some of their beliefs but not self righteous and always come from a warm and loving place. I wish for healing and a bright future for all of them.

  80. I would really like to see Derick,Jill, and Israel return to the states. With Jill stating she misses her sisters help with Israel, pictures of Israel screaming up a storm with hands and body blanket bond up, bruised up, Jill talking of her frustrating with not be able to concentrate on her studies. Derick admitting to knowing very few words of Spanish, yet living in a Spanish speaking Country. I do not understand why Jill considers adoption when she is struggling parenting Israel. It's not a disgrace to return to the states where they can have help with Israel and they can study Spanish locally and become fluent in Spanish before they return to the Mission Field.

  84. A small observation here, but I remember Anna and Josh becoming engaged and married with quite a different set of rings for her. They were much smaller and "modest". In the interview last week, she sported some mighty big rocks on her left hand ring finger. Did Josh replace her wedding rings with much more "bling"?

    ReplyDelete
  85. "Candace", this is specifically why women shouldn't opt to labor and deliver at home...a seemingly "routine" delivery can turn abnormal with complications in a second's notice. Not a wise choice to be out of reach from emergency medical personnel and equipment that could make all the difference. Jessa and Ben now have to pay for an ambulance call...not cheap either. A real doctor or midwife in the hospital would have been the best choice; but they "do things just a little differently", don't they? Those women need to stop taking chances; if they wish to jeopardize their own lives, that's their choice, but they are making those choices for their babies too, which isn't right. IMO

  86. I am praying for believers to understanding that just because they do not see the Duggars working, taking a shower, or using the toilet on the show, that it DOES happen. Understand that not every single little detail of a person's life is documented on a show that is only filmed in a small portion of their month. They are real people that do not need to justify how or where they work, or how they spend their money from the show. Also, missionaries do work and give up MUCH to follow God's calling. What the Duggar's decide with mission work, or TV shows is between THEM and God. If God has asked them to do it, then it is evil to ask them to go against what God has asked of them. I am praying for the Duggars and extended family as they follow God's leading despite what people think. Especially thinking of cousin Amy and praying for her, her husband and both parents during this hard time. Stay strong in the Lord!

  87. I don't understand why people have so many with negative comments continue to watch the Duggars and follow what they do! Watch and follow programming you enjoy. There are tons of other shows to watch. I am reminded by these comments how jealous people are. I am thankful there are people that share their experiences whether good or bad. If it helps one person not to feel alone with what they are experiencing then the Duggar shows are a success. I enjoy watching them as many others do.

  102. Hello Duggar family,I just want to say you have my respect. I'm a young mother with several little ones and the oldest in a family of 11. It doesnt matter if you are on tv or not people have opinions about how larger families live their lives. If the table was turned and the accusations and opinions were turned toward those who are accusing it would be a different picture. The war between good and evil is as old as time itself and will continue until the end of time. I just wanted to let you know there is a large group of people who love you and pray for you. We wish each one of you a Spirit filled and blessed 2016!!! Jessica

  107. Prior to her marriage, Cousin Amy went by the last name of Duggar. Perhaps she may have been better served changing her first name to JAMIE. Then, she would have been known as Jamie Duggar a name she could have chosen when she once pursued a career in Nashville. Just a suggestion.

  110. I personally felt the shows had too much repetition. Was there not enough material?
