Duggars Featured in New Film on Adoption

Is it possible to carry out an adoption in less than one week? For Todd and Barbara McCoskey, stars of the new documentary The 5 Day Adoption, the answer is yes. Five days after prayerfully beginning the adoption process, the McCoskeys welcomed their newborn daughter Christina into their family.

A network of Christians around the country, including Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, came alongside Todd and Barbara to make this adoption possible. When the McCoskeys were approached by cinematographer Kevin Peeples about creating a documentary to tell their adoption story, the Duggars agreed to be a part of the film.

The 5 Day Adoption: The Incredible True Story About the Power of Prayer and Courageous Faith in God in a Family's Adoption Process that Took Only 5 Days is now available for rent or purchase through Vimeo On Demand.

The film is set to be released on Blu-Ray December 14th and DVD December 21st. Visit www.5dayadoption.com to pre-order your copy.

  1. I like the Duggars, don't always agree with their lifestyle, but they need to stay out of the limelight and focus on healing their family

  2. Is this 5 Day Adoption Process for Christians only? I hope so. I pray so.

    1. Why would you say for "Christians" only?? To be Christian only means one Belives in Christ, it says nothing about a person's true beliefs or life style. Remember all beliefs are valid and sacred to those believing the in them. Read the paper so many persons claiming to be Christian and still degrading others for their personal beliefs are not truly following Christs teachings are they?

    2. I don't think so or that would be violating our constitution.
Not that I'm against the "only Christians" rule

  3. I'll watch this. I'm interested to see how people can be thoroughly background checked in 5 days. Maybe it's an agency the people are already approved through and the actual adoption search only took 5 days??? I hope so. The info makes it seem like the whole process is only 5 days. That's scary.

    1. Hi, I saw your comment and thought I could answer. The McCoskey family goes to church with some friends of mine and before their "5 day adoption" they had already adopted another child, so I am confident that that is why the adoption went so quickly. I agree that it would be scary if any old person could just go and adopt a child without thorough background checks and certification.

    2. It may be that having previously adopted made this process easier. They have had background checks before.

  4. Awesome Duggars this new film would be a blessing to watch
God Bless you all for this I miss seeing y'all on TV!!!

  5. This is wonderful but this should not be aloud there is thousand of people who want to adopt and they have to be checked out for months and years not a week. Just because they are on TV does not make them more trustworthy than anyone else.

    1. I guess we'll have to watch the film! It looks as though they may have already been through the process before, so maybe this is why it can be done more quickly...?

    2. I think you should watch the documentary before jumping to such conclusions. This family is not a TV family. They had previously adopted and were asked to do an emergency adoption. The documentary was done because of this.

  6. What a happy ending to what can a tragic ending. This is awesome that these two people were able to help this beautiful little girl. I can't wait to what the documentary. May God continue to bless this little family, and many more like them. The Duggars being involved I am sure made all things possible. They are wonderful people always trying to do God's work. Bless the Duggars.

  7. It is rare to adopt a baby in only five days, but there are many older children waiting for families to adopt them here in the USA. There is a huge need for foster parents/foster families too. If you can foster an older child or sibling group please do.

  8. wow that will be such a treasure to find out for people who are thinking about the long process.

  9. I think its great they were able to help out this couple but find it odd it was filmed. stories like this happen every single day,but others just don't seek the lime light to draw attention to their good deeds. Obviously this was filmed before the scandals hit. Maybe its being brought up now as a publicity stunt?? highly doubt the Duggars will be able to adopt given their tainted public name now. Now that their past has come to light that is probably the real reason they never adopted-CPS wouldn't allow it?

    1. Josh and Anna may not be able to adopt, but I don't know why Jim Bob and Michelle wouldn't be able to do so. They didn't do anything wrong.

  11. IM VERY HAPPY TO HEAR THIS..I LOVE ALL THE DUGGARS..CANT WAIT TO SEE JESSA AND JILL AND HOPE SOON TO SEE THE WHOLE FAMILY..COME ON UP..YOU CAN HOST THEM.

  12. Why would the Duggars be part of an adoption video? They have never adopted a child and cannot begin to understand the ups and downs of this process.

  13. Wow, what a rude comment. Just because they haven't adopted doesn't mean they can't support it.

  14. Has anyone seen this or know any more about the specific situation? Do you know what they are referring to exactly by a 5 day adoption? Do they mean 5 days from when the family was home study ready to when they were matched and that placement was then immediate? That is possible. I have been through 2 adoptions and although they were both completely worth it (they made me a mom and for that I will be eternally grateful), the entire process, from beginning to end, cannot take place in 5 days. It's just impossible. Even if you are really devoted and fast, it take a couple of months to fill out all of the initial paper work, have home study visits from your social worker and get your clearances. Then you wait for a match and then you wait for your child to be born if he/she hasn't been already. Then it takes at least 3 months after a birth to have your social worker do post placement visits and updates. Then you wait for finalization by the judge which varies on time depending on the state your child was born in. As I said, the match and placement can be fast but the other stuff is unavoidable. Calling it a 5 day adoption is misleading to someone who has never been through the process.

  15. I was wondering this as well. I don't see how the Duggars can comment on adoption having never been through the process either. Maybe they were included because they are well known Christians? Maybe it was supposed to attract Christians to the adoption process? I'm not sure.

  16. I find this really distasteful. There are so many people waiting to adopt for years, but this family got only 5 days? That's not enough to do a background check. I also find it odd that the part that is emphasized is that the couple is Christian - that really should not be the deciding factor in an adoption. Frankly, it shouldn't be considered. You can be Christian and not be a good candidate for adopting a child. There have been so many cases in the news of Christian couples abusing their adopted children or even sending them back to foster care. I know people will say those couples weren't really Christians, but the truth is most make that assumption without ever looking in to it. Which is really what happened here.

    1. I doubt their religious beliefs played a part in the actual adoption paperwork & process. Christians pray and ask for God to guide and give His blessing. Their faith helped them on a spiritual side not the legal side.

  17. I'm sorry, but when did Jim Bob and Michelle become experts or even remotely knowledgeable about adoption? They have said for years that they have prayed about it, but not once have they ever given a concrete answer or explanation for why they are still praying. Seems a bit too opportunistic for my liking, like they're just desperate to get back in the limelight. I have nothing against this kind of documentary, and glad for the family that was able to successfully adopt, but what on earth does this have to do with the Duggars ?!?

  18. I recall Jessa & Ben wanting to adopt a child, but are the other Duggars thinking about adoption? What about becoming a foster family? I guess the legal stuff with Josh would make it hard for them to adopt.

  19. What do the promises that God gave to Israel regarding entering the Promised Land have to do with adoption? I completely don't get it. There is major twisting of Scripture here to sell a movie. Making merchandise of the gospel. Making merchandise of a couple's journey to benefit the Duggar's new debut back on to TLC. Wow.

  20. Such a quick adoption process seems very sketchy and unsafe to me. I couldn't help but get a strange scary vibe about the couple. I hope that baby girl will be treated well... 💔 I believe in miracles and prayer answers too, but I've also witnessed first-hand what I call over-spirituality at the expense of responsible behaviour. I'm not trying to be mean or rude. This is my authentic worry. I'm a newborn, active evangelical Christian, so I'm not trying to criticize the Christian families. I grew up in difficult circumstances and often have a hunch if something is not quite right. I hope everyone involved in this adoption deal is really conscientious and not naive.

  21. I REALLY LOVE THE DUGGAR FAMILY HATS OFF TO MRS DUGGAR, GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

  22. Our family has adopted 3 times. Never in five days. We always hope for under 5 years.

I too find the situation sketchy and let me tell you, I am a Christian and I believe in miracles and I have seen God work in a time frame that would blow people's minds. But this isn't a story I would go about publishing far and wide. At the very least, publish it honestly with appropriate disclaimers about there having already been background checks and that this was an emergency situation, etc. Because for those who wait and wait and wait to bring their children home, this type of video (well intentioned or no) is, at the very best, misleading to what the process entails, or hurtful at worse. I am pro adoption. I am a firm believer. But I take a bit of issue with this video.

  23. @Anonymous But it legitimately means that they have no idea what it's like. You can think you do, but until you've done it you just cannot fathom.

It's not a rude comment in the least to point out that the Duggars have not adopted. They really have no idea what it's like. And it's a lot more indepth and difficult than the title of this video would suggest.

  24. @Susie Arviso

It's not a process, it is a documentary about a family who adopted in five days.

  25. @Anonymous The Duggars weren't the ones adopting, they were just a part of the story because they were gracious and generous to let a couple use their house during the adoption process.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Anonymous You should really watch the movie before making such comments. They were gracious in offering help to a couple adopting.

  27. @Anonymous If you watch the documentary you'll see that it was a 5 day process.

  29. @AnonymousI go to church with the McCoskey family and Barbara is one of my best friends. Believe me, their baby girl is in an amazing family that loves her with all their hearts! It is sad to see so many Christians gossiping online about a situation they know nothing about. Love "bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things." Many of the comments here do not reflect Christian love. :(

  30. @danielle I so agree w you. We as Christians are supposed to uphold each other, not gossip about each other, be positive and always pray for each other. I get so discouraged reading comments like the above. I don't understand the animosity against the entire duggar family. We all make bad choices. We are all sinners. Being a Christian doesn't mean we are sinless. We are simply covered by Grace. We are still human. And sinners. I love the duggars. They are part of my Christian family. God bless them!!
