'Counting On' Part 2 Recap

Tonight on Jill & Jessa: Counting On, "Baby Shower and a New Home"...
  • For the first time in months, Anna Duggar, who is currently staying in the girls’ room at Jim Bob and Michelle Duggars’ house, is speaking out. “Things have shifted, but the girls’ room is still very full at the Duggar home,” says the mother of four, smiling.
  • When the news about Josh’s teenage mistakes came out, Anna says it was “like ripping open an old wound” but that none of the information was new to her. Josh had confessed everything to Anna and her parents before he proposed back in 2008.
  • Then, when the news about Josh’s unfaithfulness broke, Anna admits she was speechless and that she did a lot of crying.
  • “I didn’t know what to say,” shares Anna. “It just felt like a bad dream. It didn’t seem possible. It was hard to realize that it was such a public thing, so not only was it a betrayal against me, but it was also a betrayal against those who call themselves Christian.”
  • Soon after confessing to being unfaithful to his wife and being addicted to pornography, Josh admitted himself into a long-term Christian recovery program.
  • When asked if she will stick with Josh, Anna says that, although she respects the opinions of those who think she should leave Josh, she is staying true to her marriage vows.
  • “God has unfailing love for me, and he has loved me and forgiven me of so much, and I pray that through all of this that I would be an extension of God’s love to Joshua,” shares Anna, who prays that God will give her patience and that he will restore her marriage.
  • The mom of four desires for her family to turn their hearts to God, find the grace and help they need, and come out stronger.
  • Anna, Jana, Jill, Jinger, Joy, Meredith, and Israel head over to Sierra’s house to plan Jessa’s baby shower. Sierra, due with her fifth child just a few weeks after Jessa, is a long-time family-friend who helped plan Jill and Jessa’s weddings.
  • Anna admits that seeing Jessa and Ben prepare for Spurgeon’s arrival makes her miss Josh all the more, but she is enjoying time with family and is genuinely happy for the Seewalds.
  • “Through all the ups and downs, I am really glad to be back in Arkansas with the family,” says Anna, with a big smile on her face. There’s definitely a wide range of emotions, but overall, it’s been wonderful to just be excited for Jessa and Ben, and I can’t wait to be an aunt again,” says Anna, with a big smile on her face.
  • The shower ends up being a huge event, with around 100 guests. The mamas take part in a baby diapering contest, which Jessa wins. Then, the guys compete to see who can make the most delicious baby food, using items that they picked out themselves.
  • “Most of the baby food that was made, I would not feed to a baby,” admits Jana. “I wouldn’t even eat it myself.”
  • One brave man judges the baby food concoctions based on taste, and he chooses Ben’s, which is made only of fruit. The others are much more creative—with ingredients such as chips, baked beans, and ice cream—but a lot less tasty.
  • Before the end of the party, the guests gather around Jessa and Ben to pray for Spurgeon's delivery.
  • The family exchanges lots of teary hugs as they drop Jill, Derick, and Israel off at the airport. Derick’s mom, Cathy, is flying to Central America with the Dillards to help them adjust. After a month in language school, Jill and Derick will begin an eight-month mission assignment.
  • The house that the Dillards are living in while attending school is much nicer than they expected, but their living accommodations for the next eight months will be a lot more basic.
  • Jessa and Ben head to Birmingham to answer audience questions at the Southern Women’s Show. The Seewalds say they will not be having 19 biological kids but that they have a heart for adoption. After seeking counsel, they were told to wait until Spurgeon is nine months old to pursue adoption.

  4. Anna, I think you are an amazingly strong Christian mother & wife. My prayers and thoughts are with you. I have recently been through a shocking time in my marriage. My husband just came out of a Christian recovery program in Mississippi. We actually go to church with the Wilson's. I know God doesn't give us more than we can handle. YOU are an encouragment to me. Stay strong in the Lord and HE will see you through.

  7. I can only imagine the difficult time you are having Anna but I admire your faith in God. I have always watched this family and I am amazed at the way the God is truly showing through television in each of your lives during real life situations. To the family I appreciate your honesty and opening your life to us. We will keep the entire family in prayers. Jeremiah 29:11

  8. I cannot believe that Anna talked about Josh with smiles! Why did they let her do the show. Y'all may call it good but is a insult to all women.

  9. Did anyone else notice that when she was explaining why she was going to stay in the marriage, she became the saddest and most upset of the entire interview? Her voice was saying one thing but her face was saying something completely different.

Is she getting professional therapy while staying with her sisters-in-law?

  10. i have so much respect for anna, the way she has handled everything being so public. she is an amazing woman. i sincerely hope josh realizes this and gets back on track, for the sake of his marriage and his family. i'm so glad anna was able to talk about her feelings on this special, and it wasnt limited to just jill & jessa. i actually thought john-david's interview was the most heart wrenching (aside from anna of course)and i was glad to be able to hear how everyone has been affected by this. i think its encouraging for other families going through similiar situations. besides, the duggars never claimed to be perfect - just human.

  11. I respect the views of this family (although I dont share them) and I respect Anna for her desition, however I would have love to see there is some sort of consecuense for what this man has done to his family. this is such a bad example for the younger ones "live like a hypocrite and nothing will happen... really" but ... ah well! good on ya Anna at least one member of this drama is staying true to her belief ... but I do think you deserve much better than having to go trough this, I wish you that your prayers and your God will give the peace in your heart and the happiness you deserve.

  13. Anna, I love what you said regarding making a problem into a disaster (don't remember the exact wording). And also a betrayal against those who call themselves Christian, as well as your staying true to your marriage. You are a strong woman of faith and this faith will carry you through. My heart goes out to you because I know that you are on a difficult path, but again, keep your faith and God will show you the way. Take things one day at a time. You will have days where you won't be able to stop crying and then there will be the days where love and laughter will take over. Focus on those beautiful little ones by your side. May God continue to Bless you.

  14. Derick is looking extremely thin. Is this because of the oral surgery he had?
Anna is a champion for a Godly wife and I applaud her and pray for the best for her and her family.

  15. l see that Anna has decided to stick with Josh. l respect that decision, and will pray for them to have all the help, love and support they need to heal their marriage. lt is a long road and l expect there will be trust issues for many years to come. It is her life, we all should respect what she has decided is best for her family.
I will also pray for Josh to be healed from what ever demons he is facing and that he will over come. Quite frankly, l have fear for his daughters. I pray that they will never ever be abused as Josh abused his sisters.
Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year

  19. Anna, you are a true champion! What a witness to Jesus' love and forgiveness of us all! May He continue to sustain and uphold you, and to bring Josh complete healing. Continuing to pray with the tens of thousands (if not more!) that I believe are and have been praying for you. Keep holding on and ever make His Word your source of strength.

  22. Maybe the easy road is to stay...hide your true feelings of betrayal away...carry on. It takes a mighty strong woman to leave such a relationship & rebuild a life of her own, too. There are two sides to every adultery coin.

  23. I feel for Anna and can't help but wonder what her own family is thinking of Josh now and what would be best for their daughter and grandchildren.

  25. Are you sure you can trust Josh after all his mistakes? I hope this time away will help him to be a faithful husband and father. Most people deserve a second chance. Stay strong Anna. Lori

  26. What a testimony that she wants to work things out. So many would just walk away. This man's sin certainly has hurt so many innocent people.

  27. I just hope Anna has a plan B deep in the back of her head just in case something else happens in the future.

  28. My heart hurts so badly for the WHOLE family.. I do know what is like to have your family torn up by something like this.. just keep being the wonderful family you are.

  29. She may find support for standing for her marriage as others do on Rejoice marriage Ministry

It's not the popular way to go in this world....to regard the marriage vow as unto the LORD and for His glory despite what our spouses do...But God is the one who joined us upon our agreement and though when a spouse commits adultery there is allowance to depart there is the option of the faithful spouse to continue and pray for the soul of the prodigal

May she and others find strength and support for this choice to remain in steadfast hope in the work of the Lord to glorify Himself in all things

May Anna be in the care of the Lord she loves and knows

  31. Can't the Duggars even afford a separate room for Anna and her children?

    ReplyDelete
  32. This is the saddest thing I have ever heard. It sounds like Anna is acting out of desperation rather than strength. The hard thing would be to leave and try to make a life for herself. She's choosing the easy way out, smile and live with it. Makes me cry.

  33. Why is Anna staying in the girls' room? That is very confusing. An adult woman with four children?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Just my opinion she deserves better... I am truly sorry for her. Anna I am praying for you. You don't know me but my family will constantly pray for you.

  35. I'm so impressed by Anna's strength and honesty. We live in a world of quitters, and to stand by your commitments is a truly admirable thing, especially when it's the harder choice. Forgiving is harder than walking away. Like she said, she does have a right to leave, but that doesn't mean leaving is the right thing to do. Only she knows what is right for her and her family. I believe in repentance, mercy, and forgiveness for all who truly seek it, and it makes me sad that people are judging her for trying to make her marriage work. The world would be a better place if more people were willing to work through hard things like Anna is doing. It's much braver than giving up and walking away.

  36. Anna grew up sharing a room with all of her sisters. She probably prefers to be in with the girls. It might not be what most people are used to, but I actually think it would be great, and would love to have grown up sharing a room with lots of sisters! I think it is most likely a comfort for Anna, and she is probably glad not to have to be all by herself somewhere.

  37. Don't understand all the negative comments I admire Anna greatly

    1. I think the negative comments are if she stays with Josh. I read somewhere that she is with HER family and she is contemplating divorce. I pray she goes for the divorce and takes her beautiful children away with her and start a new life. The kind of life she deserves. She really has done nothing wrong except to marry Josh, but she was young and in love. With age comes wisdom and I pray and hope that wisdom takes her far far away from Josh. I know that my comment probably will not be published because I'm not a bleeding heart for Josh. I was under the impression that this blog was for everyone to voice THEIR opinion even if it's not the same as others, but I guess we'll see if this comment gets published. God Bless.

  38. Anna has taught me a lot tonight when I saw her interview. I cried with her. I admire her and hope I would show the same love for God that she has if I were in that situation. Wow.

  39. As much as Anna wants to stay true to her vows; has she or anyone else considered Joshua may not want to renew his commitment to those same vows? Rehab is no guarantee he will exit the program with the love he once felt for his wife.

    1. I agree with you. All I keep thinking is, maybe Josh isn't happy. No one seems to be talking about that. They want to blame it on "addiction," but if he were a happily married Christian man, he would not have gone above and beyond to be deceitful. He was CAUGHT, he did not confess. Personally, I believe it all may stem from living a life of suppression. But I do not want to be disrespectful of the Duggars. You can not suppress a human being's natural sexual feelings forever. Christian or not. I actually feel badly for Josh in that regard.

  40. Josh is the one who lectured the world on duty to family as purpose in living.
I would expect him to do all that he can to get back in the Lord's will for him. He may have lost a battle but will win the war.

  41. I watched this show because I have been a huge fan of this family since their very first special. I did not expect or WANT to see how terribly these girls have suffered. OF COURSE they felt betrayed by the person who leaked Josh's police report. Common sense tells me that. OF COURSE they were devasted to learn Josh's issues run much deeper. OF COURSE THEY LOVE JOSH AND WISH THE BEST FOR HIM. I hope every one is happy they got to see for themselves how much this family is suffering. I hope TLC got the ratings they wanted.
I will not watch the Duggars anymore if they stay on TLC. The same network that dropped them like a hot potato did a horrible horrible production job and I am done with the entire network.
All families walk through fire. All families deal with narcissism and members who suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder. I hope Anna is getting educated that this is way beyond bad choices. It's an illness.

  42. As much as I am a Duggar critic and Fan (I've watched from the beginning) many of their convictions I disagree with. One of the things I agree with? They use the classic wedding vows. Better or worse etc

So many people make up their own vows and then everyone wonders why divorce is so common.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston for example. She promised to make him his favorite milkshake and he promised to split the thermostat temperature. That is not what marriage is about.

    1. With all do respect, marriage is NOT about signing up for a website that helps you find women to cheat with. I don't care what kind of vows you make, stick to them or get out of the marriage. Josh abused his beautiful wife mentally and physically by exposing her to STDs.

  43. He didn't have to go through with getting married. That's what the Courtship is for. To find out if this is what they both want. Anyhow,Josh just needs a lot of love, and support, and prayers. He and Anna, with God's love will find their way.
