Dillards Have a Movie Night

Jill Dillard is six months pregnant with her first child, a son. She and Derick spent Christmas Eve with the Dillards and Christmas Day with the Duggars.

Tonight, Jill and Derick had an at-home date night. They made banana peanut butter shakes and watched the movie God's Not Dead.

  2. I am so happy for the young couple!
I am concerned about the peanut butter though...medical comments suggest refraining from any peanut products while pregnant especially the third trimester and during breast feeding. The protein can be introduced after age 3.
I am sure they both come from hardy stock but introducing before birth is being blamed for increase reactions in life. I do hope someone is offering sound guidance to them.
All the best wishes for a wonderful new year.

    1. Anonymous, while it is true that peanuts & tree nuts are not recommended to be added to a child's diet until they are 3 years old, there is more medical evidence in support of eating peanuts and tree nuts during pregnancy and breast feeding. In fact, a report published in December 2013 outlined the findings of an American based study: one if the key findings was that children born to women, who had eaten large portions of peanuts and tree nuts during their pregnancy, were less likey to develop food allergies. Also, in 2009, the UK national health service (NHS) changed its recommendations regarding the consumption of peanuts and tree nuts during pregnancy due to lack of evidence of any harm actually occurring.
I hope this information clears up the concerns you have. Please be careful in the ways that you obtain medical information, always seek advise from a qualified doctor.
Best wishes for the New Year x.

    4. I ate tons of peanut butter during both of my pregnancies. Both my kids are fine and allergy free!!

    5. My child's pediatrician also told me that eating peanuts during pregnancy reduces your child's risk of developing peanut allergies.

    6. I ate peanut butter and crackers all the time while pregnant nursing both of my boys (because I was always starving while breastfeeding) and neither of them have a peanut allergy. Praying for a healthy baby for Jill and Derick!

  8. Jill, you look so amazing being pregnant!
I love that you spent time with each family. That is what we do too. Derick's family are quite lovely.
Your date night looks fun, but not sure about the banana peanut butter shake. Reminded me of something Elvis would of made, and I am young. I wonder how it tastes though. Guess I will have to try one. Just sounds odd.

  18. Anonymous #6: There is a difference between DVD's and TV Cabal. My family doesn't watch tv either. But we do watch DVD's on a Monitor. Which is what the Dillards might be doing.
That is my thought on that! But I have never watch "God's not dead" so maybe it is not on DVD yet??

By the way, My family attends a Mennonite Church (although we are not Mennonite) and have really enjoyed it! I am one of 6! Have a great day!

  22. Hi from Abbotsford BC!!
I just wanted to say that you guys make courting look like the way to go in choosing a mate, I don't mean the old kind of courting were it was about money, family gain, I mean the new kind to truly see if your meant to be together, before the lust has a chance to blur your vision, and make a terrible choice!!!!!! I mean it I'm sold on the idea, and when I get into my next relationship that is what I'm going to do. It seem like all the marriages I see that has started that way work out better, the marriage stays together too, which makes me very hopeful, and I am will to do whatever I can to have a happy marriage too!! THANKS!!!!!!!! I still think you two should call your boy Skylar!!!!!

  28. Thks! Can we expect to see the younger kids on camera a bit more? Tired of the focus on two of the children only.

  29. I wonder if derickdillard misses being allowed to watch the college football games on TV and simply being informed about the news, etc. on TV? Can't imaging being so cut off from the world like that...it doesn't have to be sinful viewing either. There is a lot that I choose not to watch on TV myself and I am not like the Duggar family at all.

  30. You might want to watch what your gaining now so you do not have to lose so much later.

  36. Look out for the peanutbutter. I ate a lot of it during one of my pregnancies and my daughter has severe peanut and tree nut allergies. It is a life-long problem and she still suffers with it as an adult. There was no history of food allergies in our family.

  39. In Australia we are told to eat peanut butter in pregnancy if there is no history of allergies. We give our kids peanut butter from 12 months but that is now being revised. There is a strong link to the rise in children allergies and delaying introductions of foods. So now it's advised to give them everything from the start and to start solids between 4-6 months. My kids had peanut butter from about 7 months. I hate it during pregnancy. 3 kids here with no allergies.

  41. Great to see Derick's Mom looking better than ever! Just can't understand why his step-father is either not in family pictures or is always hidden behind others. I feel he should be more respected as a part of Derick's life.

  42. I wholeheartedly am a believer in the existence of the Almighty, I find it curious that there is an underlying message here in that movie that Jill and Derick watched on DVD, and an edited version? It's considered a Christian film, so what's to edit out? Having said that the underlying message is that "college in bad" and WILL convert you to atheism, which is simply not true. Although there are professors of varying spiritual belief, there also are people in the general public who are also of varying beliefs. There are professors who are quite spiritual and have a strong belief in the Creator, God. Movies like these, discourage the curiosity of learning, which is something they seem to fear. A Christian college, that they could well attend would not try to convert them into atheism. But they don't attend any.

I do understand that many individuals are not getting all the episodes so they don't know that Michelle and Jim Bob answer all of these questions on the shows. I dvr all episodes for review. Love the duggers thanks for a show I don't need to filter first before my grandkids can watch

  49. @Anonymous It is possible to have a t.v. which is only used for watching movies on DVD or VHS. You can choose to not be subscribed to cable, satellite, or dish services--- thus, no tv connection! I know, because I myself lived this way for 10 years. But now, I have select tv programming in order to watch faith-based programs, and shows like 19 Kids!

  50. I must be a bit crazy but I think I would lose my mind if I had no TV or music playing in the house. What do people do with their time for those who don't have them on??
