3 Months of Duggars: Episode Summaries

New episodes of 19 Kids and Counting start in March and run through April and May. One-hour specials on March 12th, 19th and 26th will feature the Duggars' trip to Japan and China (see episode summaries below). Season 7 premieres on April 2nd.

Join the TLC veterans as they venture outside their small town in northwest Arkansas and head to the Far East. From experimenting with native food and riding Rickshaws to donning traditional Geisha dress and fighting as Samurai, the Duggars are up for it all. And while things may get lost in translation, and they often feel like fish out of water, they’re making memories of a lifetime and having a blast doing it.

19 KIDS AND COUNTING: DUGGARS DO ASIA: Tokyo, Japan
Premieres Tuesday, March 12 at 9PM ET/PT (8PM CT)
The Duggars are heading out on the trip of a lifetime...their first visit to Asia! Their first stop is Tokyo, but before they can board the plane, they must successfully wrangle their 40 suitcases from the Duggar home to the airport. They spend their first morning abroad indulging in a traditional Japanese breakfast of soup, seaweed and seafood. Can they master chopsticks and stomach these delicacies, or will they need to rely on snacks from home? Then it's out to navigate the crowded streets of Tokyo, do a little shopping and ride a traditional Japanese rickshaw. To really embrace the Japanese culture and push past the language barrier, the family splits up into two teams for a marketplace race to purchase ingredients for making sushi, a first for this family! It's a race to the finish line because whoever loses the competition has to eat the sushi roll Josie prepares!

19 KIDS AND COUNTING: DUGGARS DO ASIA: Kyoto, Japan
Premieres Tuesday, March 19 at 9PM ET/PT (8PM CT)
The Duggars are making memories on their Asian adventure. For their last day in Tokyo, the family appears as guests on a Japanese morning news program. Will they be able to communicate with their Japanese-speaking hosts or will it all get lost in translation? Later, they are invited to a Japanese carnival where the 25 Duggars compete against the “Master Goldfish Catcher” in Japan. The Duggars then make their way by train to Kyoto, where the girls try on kimonos and traditional makeup, while the boys pick up swords for a Samurai lesson. The trip to Kyoto is not complete without a nap at a capsule hotel! And at the end of the day, the family enjoys one of their favorite foods at a buffet where every thing is pickled.

19 KIDS AND COUNTING: DUGGARS DO ASIA: Beijing, China
Premieres Tuesday, March 26 at 9PM ET/PT (8PM CT)
The Duggars are off to Beijing, China. The family of 25 struggles to navigate the city’s subway system and make it to Tiananmen Square, where they become a tourist attraction themselves. A trip to the Great Wall of China and a local village give the Duggars a traditional Chinese experience and a chance for Jim Bob to show off his haggling skills as the family collects souvenirs. And no trip to China is complete without experiencing some traditional foods, including Peking duck and the more exotic, scorpion! At the end of the trip, Jana and Jill put their midwifery training to work when a member of the television crew suddenly goes into labor. And the family has one final stop – a visit to an orphanage, which is sure to be remembered.

  4. I love the Duggars, don't get me wrong, always have! I get frustrated sometimes because I wish I could give my large family the same experiences they are able to give theirs because of TLC! I bet a lot of others have the same frustrations!

    1. Perhaps, if you pray and trust God for His plan, then He will bless you in the way He wants to bless you. Who's to say you won't be traveling like them? Instead of being frustrated, be happy that they can have that experience and in His time and way, you will receive your blessings.

Momto12- I use to be jealous of the Duggars to but if you think how they are blessing others that puts a new perspective does in it?

I'm soooooooooo excited for it to start up again!!!

  9. @Anonymous-I agree; every family would love to have the opportunities the Duggars have been blessed with through TLC. I, also, agree I woiuld appreciate more episodes where we see Michelle and JB parenting, how CollegePlus is going for the older children;etc. However, just remember, when Michelle and JB first decided to have as many blessings as the Lord would give them; there was no TLC income. They both worked very hard running a car lot/store and towing business (plus holding insurance sales and real estate sales licenses) in those early days of 0 kids and up! The family lived in a very small house, too! It wasn't until they had 14 children that television picked up on them! So, I feel they did pay their "dues" before the TLC money train came their way!

    1. Also keep in mind that they do work. TLC didn't buy the house they live in. THEY bought the entire land, framing of their house, materials & etc. And than spent three long years building that house from start to finish! Everyone in that family participated. TLC only paid to furnish the living rooms and bedrooms. The Duggars paid for their big rig appliances out of their own pockets buying from restaraunt auctions...as far as work goes, they still bust their butts for what they have. They own several commercial rental properties that they profit from. They still buy and flip houses which can make pretty nice money. And they also own a cell phone tower that they profit from that happened to be on the property when they bought it. TLC does put up a lot of trips to keep many shows interesting. But they stated that Michelle has always wanted to go to Asia. For all we know that just might have saved and paid for this themselves! Remember, they have gone on several mission trips to other countries BEFORE TLC ever showed up.

  10. Do they adopt.from the orphanage?

  11. Did Anna not go? Also I love the duggar family, but I do feel they should be a bit more respectful when in other countries, I understand children making faces at foods, but the adults should be a tad bit more respectful.

  12. I think it's wonderful that the Duggars are able to do so much b/c of all they have to sacrifice for TLC. It's certainly a fair trade in my opinion. I wouldn't live in a fishbowl for all the wonderful experiences. I can only imagine how hard that must be! And putting yourself out there for so much criticism - no thank you!

  13. I'm looking forward to the new season. Thanks for the information. I do not understand how a crew memember would be allowed to travel to Japan/China while 9 months pregnant? I have had several friends who were living in Asia while their husbands were in the military and they were not allowed to fly to the US while 7-9 months pregnant.

So are Jana and Jill now certfied midwives? I knew they were training as lay midwives. That would be wonderful to hear that they had completed the schooling and training to be able to deliver babies on their own now instead of as an assistant. What a wonderful blessing it will be to have 2 certfied midwives in Jill and Jana for the Duggar family!

  14. They should adopt from the orphanage instead of having more biological children. Why bring more kids into the world, when so many already need a home?

  15. To start with, in answer to momof12's remarks, as someone else pointed out, they werent paid ANY money from tlc till 17 kids and counting aired. they go no endorsements from either of their books, they didnt take any trips overseas till after josie was born. josh and anna, jana and john, jill, amy and grandma duggar probably paid their own way. some of their kids would of been free. for instance, josie, macynzie and michael. they probably used frequent flyer miles and have obviously worked hard. they are frugal and spend their money wisely. so no need to feel jealous. who knows what God has planned for your life? if your desire is to travel, then pray about it.

  17. That looks so cool! The Duggars are truly a blessing to me and I'm so excited to have them back on TV! Since they've been gone I've been watching repeats over and over again! I never seem to get tired of the Duggars!

Lily and Ellie- Do you know if the Duggars will be coming to DC/Maryland/Virginia area any time soon? I would love to meet them! They are such an inspiration!

  18. From my understanding the Asia trip was for a series of media appearances the Duggars were making in Asia. The Asian media outlets paid for the trip and TLC came along to film. If you read the blogs, books, and stories from other TLC families/stars, TLC does pay for everyone to go on trips in full including airfare/lodging/food/clothing allowences. The Duggars lived megerly before TLC. 17 kids and 3 beds and 2 bathrooms is not a fancy lifestyle, it was bare bones. Without TLC's help the big house would not have been finished as quick or even by now. The drywall, painting, molding, doors, all the finish work inside which was over 50k was given by TLC along with some decorations and furniture. Im sure they could do it without TLC but now having 7 kids finished high school and still at home and 6 not bringing in any money (not sure if JD has to pay rent or just save for his future)it would get harder and harder to survive on a cell phone tower rent of 1k a month, and some rental property income. My husband has 12 siblings(hismom did not believe in birht control either) and it was very hard but at least they had a basement they finished off themsleves as the family grew and the house went from 3 to 6 bedrooms. The kids all left for college or military at 18 so it was different then the Duggars wanting kids to be at home till marriage. TLC made it possible to go from living with just the ncessicities to living very comfortably. Remember they have sold out their privacy for this luxury and I don't know if I or many people could live being judged and in the spotlight everyday.

    Hi Anonymous,

Doesn't look like the Duggars have any public appearances scheduled in that area, but if we hear of anything, we will post the details to the Appearances page (http://duggarsblog.blogspot.com/p/appearances.html).

    Thanks for reading,

  20. I've been frustrated with others being able to take trips, whether big or small families, but we decided to take the plunge after coming across a fantastic deal for a caribbean cruise. We had a wonderful time, tons of food, met many people from all over the world, and got to tour a country for 2 days.. we made the most of it. Sometimes you just have bite the bullet and go for it. We have 8 people in our family and between the gas, hotel, 5 night cruise, and *few* souveniers we spent only about $2500 total. It was trip well spent that we'll never forget.

  21. Thank you so much for bringing the Duggars back to TLC. They are a true blessing to all of us. I would also appreciate more shows on parenting and everyday struggles. I learn a lot from them and I would love to learn about how they deal with everyday things, such as cooking, homeschooling, living with grandma Duggar, exercising, etc. We don't have a lot of role models in this crazy society and we look up to the Duggar family to provide us with some wonderful examples of how to live the Christian life. thank you so much again and I look forward to seeing them!!

  25. @Anonymous

    Hi Anonymous,

Wikipedia and other sources call it season 11, but TLC calls it season 7.
