  5. In this day and age with gun control debates raging etc., I think Gunner is a poor choice for a name. Austin likes his guns though & so do most of the Duggar brothers. Regardless, congrats on the birth of a healthy baby boy.

    1. There might be a problem if he's in a store and they call his name out for some reason. Otherwise I don't think it's a bad name.

    2. Everyone has their own opinion. Im sure your name is offensive too.

    3. They should have just shortened it to 'NRA'!

    7. Oh please. The gun is not the issue in our country, it’s the criminals and mental illness crisis. Even if you took all the guns away, people would still find a way to hurt people. Look at the Boston marathon bombing. Should we ban pressure cookers?

      Delete
    8. @7:37 Works pretty well in England.

    9. I also think it’s a poor choice. Regardless of where you stand on gun regulations, many people will hear their sons name and have negative connotations.

      Delete
    10. I knew a Gunnar growing up; born to a Swedish family. Is Austin Swedish?

      Delete
    11. Sadly, I agree about feeling it’s a poor choice for a name. Not trying to be hurtful or judgemental, it is THEIR child. But I worry that the child will have to deal with some unpleasant things in life because of the name

    12. 8:47 I never heard of a person name Gunner have any issues.

    13. We had shootings for years and nobody had an issue with the name Gunner. Stop trying to make it a problem now. You are looking for a reason. People on this site ain't falling for it. You seem to be the only one. Its funny there is a person saying the exact same thing in a few obvious fake accounts on Joy's social media.

    1. You guys would be trying to find something wrong regardless of what they named their child. People have their rights. What's wrong is parents not watching their kids and don't have proper safes.

      Delete
    2. @2:29 Would you consider leaving your gun lying around in your living room or kitchen to be unsafe? What about leaving it on the ground?

      Delete
    3. Look up what Gunner means. You all are tripping lol.

      Delete
    4. What’s wrong is criminals and mental health issues and yeah, parents being stupid not locking up their guns. Take all the guns away, people will still find a way to do harm to others

      Delete
    5. 8:11 is that what you do??? You are suppose to keep it in a safe or cabinet with a lock.

      Delete
    6. @7:44 Not the solution. Kids know where keys are, and kids 18 and up can purchase whatever they want, whether the usual way or on the street (at any age).

      Delete
    7. People have rights to own guns. With the way the world is now, pepper spray is not good enough. You can cry all you want about it but nothing's gonna change. Its about the person holding the gun. Even if they ban guns, people are still going to have them. Some R States made it where you don't have to have a permit which is reckless. That's what you should be angry about. They also need mental health screenings to be able to purchase a gun.

      Delete
  9. What will they call him for short? Little Gun? I can't even with that name. Of all the names in the world they have to pick one with 'gun' in it!

She did say she would be enduced early, I guessed she would choose her sister Jill's birthday to be the day so they would share a birthday,Jessa did the same with Fern as she was enduced too,so Fern was born on grandpa's birthday, Jessa gets enduced a little early because she usually has bleeding complications if baby's too big,and Joy because of her cesarian scar I think as she had that from Gideon.

    5. @8:44 It would be film at 11 for that one. Public panic is never a good thing. Someone dropped a tray at the food court of our mall and the loud bang it produced caused a stampede of people running to leave. A woman I know had her leg broken in the crush.

    9. 2:12 because most people know what Guner means. Its a old name, older than guns but its also a very common name. I don't think you would of had such a problem with it if a Duggar didn't name their child that name. You need to step outside and get some fresh air.

  30. Congrats Joy & Austin! He is adorable! I love his name despite certain negative comments who didn't look up the meaning of it. I been in tragic situations in my life. I got scars to prove it. The name Gunner doesn't trigger me. I really do feel like they are reaching to hard this time and ended up falling low to the ground especially considering none of them brought up the fact they been in a tragedy. They are bringing up someones elses tragedy for only one purpose. You should be ashamed of yourself. Gunner does not mean Gun. Even if they use it as a nickname, its short for Gunner but I never heard anyone use Gun as a nickname for Gunner. The name is popular here where I am from so I know this to be true. They usually use the middle name for the nickname. This has went to far now. What triggers me is the negative comments who have no common sense to look up the meaning behind a name and unsuccessfully try to connect it to tragedies that has nothing to do with them just so they can attack Joy and Austin. This is absolutely disgusting.

    1. 3:45 Would you be okay with naming a child Bomber or Killer? Just because some people like Gunner, doesn't mean everyone else has to. We know the Duggars like guns, so I guess it's appropriate for one of their kids.

    2. @3:45 I agree with you. I love his name too. I would name my son Gunner for sure.

  31. Gunner Name Meaning: battler or warrior. Gunner is a boy's name of German origin. It means "battler" or "warrior" and is a variant of Gunther. This is for those who are embarrassing themselves in the comment section right now lol. Like wow... Do you need ice for your arm from reaching to hard?

    1. So not only they don't know what Gunner means, they still have that attitude toward Germans like their ancestors did when Germans first came to America.

      Delete
    2. Except nobody goes around carrying a baby name meaning book, looking up what they hear a parent call to a child in public. They hear what they hear said, and that word does not immediately bring up the idea of "a boy's name meaning warrior." Try announcing that name loudly over and over at a public place and see what happens, if people run in panic or if they approach you to discuss names of German origin.

      Delete
    3. 6:58 It only brings a negative meaning to you. I never heard anyone associate the name with gun until a Duggar named her child that. How odd.

    4. For crying out loud 6:55, some of us ARE German.

  35. What is happening right now on the comments is the reason I always say, don't argue with "those people". Surely they have to know what Gunner means and the name has been around for years. This is the first time someone tried to make it offensive. Its clear in their delusional heads that its only offensive if a Duggar does it.

    1. The name's been around but it's usually GunnAr, not spelled to look like someone shooting a gun. It's that choice people are questioning, given what is going on in the world. It would be strange if anyone at all chose that name and spelling, not just a Duggar. Come to think of it, Joy should have remembered her maiden name was NOT "Dugger."

    1. Ok, then let's discuss what would have happened if Joy had named him any of those other names. Same reaction. Gunner doesn't mean gun? Gunner: noun
      1. a member of the armed forces who operates or specializes in guns.
a member of an aircraft crew who operates a gun, especially (formerly) in a gun turret on a bomber.
a naval warrant officer in charge of a ship's guns, gun crews, and ordnance stores.
      2. a person who hunts game with a gun.

  43. Gunner meaning bold warrior - the same spelling variant - has been around longer than guns just like the surname Spears - which is funny that nobody complains about that either. Gunnar or more accurately Guner is Norse variant means Warrior of the North. People think Gunner and Gunnar is the same because the warrior meaning but they are pronounced very different. Gunnar is pronounced Gu-ner. Not gun-ner.

  44. First off congratulations to Joy-Anna & Austin on their new blessing. Secondly one online search could had saved all this drama. But at the same time these comments which I am sure it's coming from the same person, knew the meaning behind the Gunner name. This should be a lesson that these trolls on here will try to twist everything and its best to ignore because they don't have one ounce of sense. Enjoy the blog but my advice is to don't engage and they'll probably reply to you but don't respond to them. They are looking for attention. This is clear proof of it. You can't change a meaning of someone's name to fit your narrative you are trying to paint.

    3. At 3:40, the spelling at the top of the blog post is spelling his name Gunner. I doubt Ellie would spell the baby's name wrong.

  74. At least it's better than Gideon. Apparently according to Joy's video Gideon wanted to name him Joel. Austin told him how woukd you feel if someone went up to you and said they didn't like the name Gideon.? I'm like really Gideon is a horrible name but I guess not as bad as Spurgeon.

  75. “GunGun” is a cute nickname. Just don’t yell it out if he gets lost in a crowd.
