Duggars Soon to Reach 50 Members

Duggar family Christmas 2020

A couple weeks ago, we wrote a post on our Bates Family Blog about the ever-changing family statistics. With a few babies and some potential engagements on the horizon, the Bates are very close to reaching 50 members. So how do the Duggars compare?

Including in-laws, the Duggars are currently at 30 members. When you add the 19 grandchildren, that total comes to 49. But after Kendra delivers her baby girl in the next few weeks and Justin marries Claire Spivey (date unannounced, but sure to be soon), Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and their clan will number 51 people!

  1. I absolutely love your blog! I would love to see y'all post more often though. Can your next post be about Kendra and how she's doing? Thanks.

  2. 50 members is quite a milestone.

  3. Mom always said it's quality not quantity.

    1. Exactly, it does not matter if you have 100 members or just 5 members in a family. Spending quality time with your kids and grandkids is what counts.

    2. The two are not mutually exclusive.

  4. Yes. And no doubt there will be a few more pregnancy announcements in the coming months.

    1. Yes. Anna then probably Jessa and Lauren.

    2. I agree. Many people think Anna is pregnant, then I'm sure John and Abbie would want to have more kids sooner than later. Josiah and Lauren, and probably Jessa as well (Ivy will be 2 in May). I'm sure Justin and Claire will have a honeymoon baby. They might have 5 pregnancies soon or already happenning. Who knows, maybe they will have 25 grandkinds in 2021 :).

    3. I would bet on Josh and Anna and Josiah and Lauren.
Next year probably Jill, Jessa and Jonathan.

    4. Who is Jonathan?

      Delete
    5. Yep Anna, she already looks pregnant! I’m hoping Jill will be pregnant soon too!

    6. Who is Jonathan?

    7. 8:59 5:13 - maybe they meant to say John and Abbie?

      Delete
    8. 12:01 - Jill already stated she’s on birth control. She clearly doesn’t want another kid at the moment and we should respect that.

      Delete
    9. Not Jonathan. Meant to say Johanna.

      Delete
    10. Jill uses birth control methods but she is not on birth control pills.

      Delete
    11. 9:38---Why did you mean Johanna??? Why would she be pregnant she is not even married?!!!?

  5. Sometimes I think it's a race between the bates family & the duggar family but I know it's not it's the timing of the children and ages. I can't wait for bringing up bates season 10 & counting on season 12. Natasha b

    2. Nah, the last sentence definitely sounds like her lol

    3. What I meant was there is no competition between the bates and the duggar's or anyone for that matter at all. I always look forward to the next season. Natasha b

  6. Wow!!!! That's already, a huge group of people!!!!! Imagine how big this family could end up being if the 10 unmarried Duggar children: Jana, Jeremiah, Jedidiah, Jason, James, and when they are old enough: Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn, and Josie, all end up getting marred, and having children.

  7. Does Arkansas have a mask mandate? If they do They better have their wedding outside or wait until the summer if they don’t want masks at their wedding?

  8. Jim Bob, Michelle + 19 kids + 8 in-laws = 29, not 30. 29+19 grandkids = 48, plus Joe + Kendra's = 49 + Claire when she marries Justin will be 50. Not 51

    1. Anna's pregnant, so I think they were counting that baby too. Jill

    2. You’re forgetting Tyler. He is most definitely a member of the family.

      Delete
    3. They already have 9 in-laws.

      Delete
    4. Don’t forget about Tyler

      Delete
    5. They are most likely counting their nephew, Tyler, who lives with them. I am not sure if he is officially adopted...

      Delete
    6. They are including Tyler in the duggar count and then the in laws so that's 30.

      Delete
    7. They are probably counting in Tyler

      Delete
    8. I think Tyler is included in the total. So, yes, 30 in the family before in-laws and grandkids is correct.

      Delete
    9. They probably included Tyler

      Delete
    10. @11:14: Anna did not announce that she is pregnant, so maybe she just gained weight.
I think they count Tyler as kid #20, then all numbers come together.

      Delete
    11. He is not a son. He is a nephew or grandnephew. I can't remember which.

      Delete
    12. I agree, with 8:18pm, since Josh & Anna, have not made an official announcement, we have no way of confirming, whether Anna is in fact pregnant, or if Anna is still carrying some weight, from being pregnant, with MaryElla.

      Delete
    13. 5:01 AM: Anna probably finished breastfeeding Maryella around the time she turned 1 in November, so some women gain or lose weight when they stop breasfeeding, hormones. Could be just that.

      Delete
    14. Don't forget to count Tyler, Michelle's neices boy who they have adopted. That makes 51.

      Delete
    15. Nieces and nephews shouldn't count.

      Delete
    16. Just so we are clear nieces and nephews do count they are FAMILY

      Delete
    17. Nieces and nephews don't count, as they are not immediate family (offspring of the parents=children or descendants of the parents= grandchildren). Tyler has a family; He is blessed to to have Michelle and Jim Bob as his second family, being his custodians right now. It's very sweet if they're including Tyler, as I would too (he lives with them and is considered part of the family).

      Delete
    18. Tyler counts when he is being raised by them....

  9. That’s awesome!! So wonderful a family coming together & cherishing what memories they can make with each other. What a blessing to have a large family<3

    1. You can’t force people to have more children

      Delete
    2. I don’t think, in these families, that there is any force needed.

      Delete
    3. 9:06 didn't say anything about forcing anyone to have more children.

  12. Wow! Thank ladies for this most requested post. Not surprised that the Duggars have already beaten the 50 mark. They have had the great marriage and baby boom for almost 6 years now since "19 Kids and Counting" ended and "Counting On" began. In 10 years (2031) bet you that the number will reach 100+ (by that time the baby of the family Josie will be all grown up and age 22 years old and probably married). What do you all think?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Most likely Josie will be married and her niece Mackenzie as well with children of their own.

      Delete
    2. 9:57 What do you mean probably married…

      Delete
    3. Yes, in ten years definitely over a hundred, there's only eight married and that's not even half of the children, and they all marry young and I'd say most of them will have large families.

      Delete
    4. 3:11PM: Jana isn't married yet, Jill wasn't married by 22, and neither was John, so the word "probably" for Josie is fair.

      Delete
    5. 6:22 PM: Jill actually married at 23, but she was the "first pancake". Joy married at 19, and both Kendra and Lauren married into the family at 19 as well. I would think that younger sisters will be also marrying young.

  14. if you Cousin Amy, her husband, and son it will equal 54 people

    1. I don't think you should "count" Amy and her family in this. They are not under JB's span of control.

      Delete
    2. Amy is their niece, not daughter

      Delete
    3. They aren't under JB and Michelle in the family tree. That's why they shouldn't be counted.

    4. @9:02- don’t be so certain!

    5. I will donate $100 to the Republican party the day a single Duggar shown here votes for a Democrat.

      Delete
    6. @5:10 I think your $100 is safe.

    7. Let's NOT be mean for a change ok?

      Delete
  18. I think it will be more and more Duggars :). In 5 years Johannah will be 20, she might be married with a kid already. And definitely the twin brothers, then jason, James. They all will be married, with kids. And already existing couples will each have at least 2 kids. There can be like 80 Duggars in 5 years. Maybe even more if someone has twins, or has babies back to back. And in 10 years We might even see great-grandchildren - Mackynzie will be 21 and can have family on her own!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Bates family now have 19 children, 7 spouses and 15 grandkids. So it's 43 only, not 50. Yes, they expect 3 babies in June, and 3 couring couples, but so far it's only 7 who are married and 15 grandkids. Duggar have 8 spouses plus Justing who is getting married in March, and 20th grandchild can be born any day now. So it's truly 9 spouses and 20 grandkids, plus Tyler, gives 51 family members. Duggars are ahead! And I'm sure since they know about 3 uncoming Bates babies, Duggars will soon announce more grandkids as well.

  20. To those who so admire or envy these huge reality TV families, it's important to consider the actual reality of it. While there may be certain advantages to being in a large family, there can also be some serious disadvantages. I think "grass is always greener" applies here. If you are a believer in the God's will theory, your family size was determined by Him in the first place, so you should just embrace and accept your circumstances instead of yearning for what you don't have.

    1. 50 family members can mean 50 differences of opinion too

      Delete
    2. The truth is that larger families can also mean more dysfunction, because there are so many more members dealing with human nature at the same time, in and through different stages of human development. Between the parents, the children, the spouses, the in-laws, the siblings, the cousins, the aunts/uncles, and the spouses' extended families, all of those up the potential for conflict, misunderstandings, etc. (some of which we've already seen, some not so readily visible). Human nature is the same, whether it's two people or 50+.

  21. I think this year several Duggars might have more babies or announce pregnancies. Justin is getting married. Maybe some of the brothers will announce courtships and get married.

    1. Yes. One of Justin's older brothers might start courting Lauren Caldwell. She seems to be "around" a lot now that her engagement didn't work out.

  22. Time for another group photo of pregnant Duggars again.
