Ben Ordained as Pastor

We have some exciting news to pass along. Ben Seewald was just ordained as a pastor for a church! (The Seewalds have not shared the name of the church.) Congratulations to the Seewald family on this wonderful milestone. May God bless your ministry.

    1. I wondered what he was going to school for... thought it was for a trades job and I thought he and Jessa were more open, but congrats to him! Atleast he ain't a bum.

    2. Ordination is a type of accreditation. The posting does not refer to his employment status.

      Delete
    3. It does not say he got a job. It says only that he is ordained and can work as a pastor.

    4. Well, now it says there is a church.

  10. Good luck to Ben in his new venture. I know quite little about becoming a pastor but I imagine it’s a very rewarding job to do. I hope Ben enjoys this new phase in his life & looks after his congregation well.

    1. That can be "your world" - the Church is not governed by secular culture.

    2. Anonymous 9:25 what is that supposed to mean? Female pastors are ordained in many denominations.

      Delete
    3. Their church is open to females as pastors; it’s the Catholic Church that has yet to accept females as priests/pastors.

      Delete
    4. 9:25 That's too bad. I think if more women were in leadership positions, churches would be better off. Certainly, we need more of them in government. I'm so glad we'll have the first female VP! It's taken far too long! Hopefully, we'll have a woman POTUS sooner, rather than later.

    5. I'm so glad to live in Europe with a reverend that can be a man or a woman who is among us as part of our congragation. Usualy with a spouse and a family.

      Delete
    6. Lots of churches allow women pastors. I guess they below to "the world" too. I am not one to criticize any church.

      Delete
    7. That world is now. There are women pastors.

      Delete
    8. Why can't women be pastors too? What do they not have that makes them unable to be pastors?

      Delete
    9. 1:20 -- The Bible says a women can't be a pastor. But since Satan is the god of this world, there are many churches that don't follow the Bible, where Ivy COULD be a pastor!
1 Timothy 2:12–13, “But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet."

      Delete
    10. 9:25 What "Church" are you referring to? Many denominations encourage and have women in pastorial and leadership roles. It's simply a part of their belief system that's evolved over time. Absolutely nothing wrong with that and I think they're better for it. In fact, a husband/wife Methodist ministerial team married my son and daughter-in-law. It was lovely and so inspirational. I've witnessed too much abuse of power in a patriarchal religion and would never go back to one. Your comment is quite derogatory.

      Delete
    11. The bible is clear women are not to preach. Churches that do so are not following the bible and thus aren’t actually Bible believing.

      Delete
    12. @12:10 Your definition of a church and how other churches define themselves are completely different things. It's like saying Chevy cars aren't cars, only Fords are. Each church has its own standards and you can't use your church's standards to judge another church.

      Delete
    13. Victoria Osteen is referred to as co-pastor of their Houston mega church...women can indeed be leaders and pastors in today's world.

      Delete
    14. 2:45, if you use the Bible as your standard, then yeah, it says women aren't supposed to be preachers.

  12. I can't imagine what kind of counsel a young man like Ben could offer to the world.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The same kind of "counsel" every young pastor, newly graduated can offer. Christ. and Christ alone.

      Delete
    2. Biblical counsel. Timothy was young, but the apostle Paul encouraged him to be an example despite his youth.

      Delete
    3. 1 Timothy 4:12! I think Ben has much to offer and will be a great pastor.

      Delete
    4. Spoken like someone who probably isn't in full-time ministry. My husband has been in ministry for almost 20yrs...its hard & they are quick to respond to people's negative comments. They aren't mature enough for a lead pastor position.

      Delete
    5. Biblical counsel. Either he preaches the Bible or he doesn't.

      Delete
    6. 5:27, it IS hard, but a younger pastor can pray and read his Bible and get council from mentors. It is doable for a younger man to be a pastor, the Bible just cautions against men who are new to the faith from being pastors.

      Delete
    7. You can say the same in any profession. Hopefully he has a good mentor and peers to rely on for support.

      Delete
    8. Perhaps Ben is interested in being a youth pastor.

    1. He obviously did not get ordained on the internet. Many Pastoral degrees and Masters of Divinity degrees can be earned through distance learning augmented with annual live seminars. Actually, earning the M.Div. through distance learning can be much more difficult. The courses are the same and Ben has been studying for years. Please be kind - the world doesn't need more divisive people.

    2. I think just ordained to perform marriages can be done online, but what Ben did is a degree program, and to be ordained as a pastor for church has much more requirements.

  21. Congratulations to Ben! I have a Master of Arts in seminary studies, and I know it is a difficult but rewarding journey. When you have your own congregation with whom to do ministry, it makes all the assignments and tests worthwhile. In my denomination, we aren’t ordained until we have a letter of call. Does Ben have a church to which he is being called? Again, blessings as God guides you in your ministry journey.

    3. No, you don't. But being ordained is no cake walk. You are examined by a board of ministers and you'd better be prepared to explain and defend your beliefs.

    2. How are Christians in danger? In my experience, it is Christians who have historically demonstrated scorn and judgment of those who do not share their beliefs. Telling people that they’re going to hell if they don’t convert is just one example.

      Delete
    3. 5:44, Christians have already faced some "soft" persecution under Democrat governors just under the excuse of covid. One example: Christians slapped with fines for sitting in a parking lot in their own cars for a radio church service. A situation where there is literally zero chance of spreading covid, yet that's the excuse given. At the same time you could do the same thing in any other parking lit and not get fined. Being emboldened by being the only party with power at the federal level is going to make things less anti-Christianity, especially with the new crackdowns on free speech? I'm not that naive.

      Delete
    4. Christians are being killed around the world daily. Doesn’t take much search to find it. Many laws they are trying to make us submit to now are completely against our faith. Every people group has historically shown scorn towards those they don’t agree with this isn’t strictly a “Christian “ thing. You yourself are showing the bigotry by your intolerance of Christian views

      Delete
    5. 5:44, non-Christians display scorn and judgement toward Christians all the time.

      Delete
    6. Interesting people of all faiths persecute and are persecuted. I thought maybe Buddhists were never violent. Nope. Search and you will find Buddhist extremists. Non-christians and Christians all hurt each other sometimes and vice versa. Sometimes, like a full moon, we reflect our Lord perfectly and sometimes there is no moon.

This will be my last reading or commenting on this site. These blogs (Duggar and Bates) are apparently being censored by our government. I am especially upset over the previous Bates story being taken down today. Apparently, Freedom of the Press no longer exists here in the US. So long. . .

    1. When I saw the post about Lawson I knew that would be a heated subject. It was brave of Ellie to broach the subject, but I bet the comments were awful, so she probably had to take it down for that reason.

    2. You are talking nonsense. Ellie removed it by herself, no Govt involvement at all.

    4. This....is not a real happening.

    5. Anon 5:23 If you feel that there is government censorship going on with this blog or any blog the solution isn't to leave the blog, the solution is getting a hold of your State Legislature and Governor and Mayor and any company that supports censorship and voice and demand that it stops. You have a voice but you won't for much longer if you run from the problem.

      Delete
    6. OP, I have a serious question that I'd like you to answer. You, and others, have complained many times about people in this country becoming amoral, having a lack of decency, setting bad examples, and so on. This is brought up constantly. Yet when a company steps up, takes responsibility, and says "We will not have words or actions on our websites that contribute to hate or violence," you complain about censorship! You can't have it both ways! What are your thoughts on that?

      Delete
    7. 11:04, the difference is that "hate" has been redefined to mean that you can't say anything we disagree with rather than just meaning using bad language or having hateful motives.

      Delete
    8. No 10:02. It's pretty clear what "hate" is, and it's much more than something two people don't agree on.

      Delete
    9. Anon 9:58 I agree with you. The government of our country has ZERO interest in these sorts of blogs so any post taken down on the Bates blog was removed by Ellie, not some "government censor". I'm flabbergasted by the number of people who believe that our government is some sort of evil entity plotting against its own citizens. Nothing could be further from the truth.

      Delete
    10. 2:47, no, "hate" has been redefined to mean if you think something is ok and I state that it's a sin, you think I'm being hateful. That's the sort of censorship people complain about. If you believe the Bible and you say what the Bible says, you're accused of being "hateful," and people try to shut you down. That is absolutely happening.

      Delete
    11. 4:14, I guess we'll see whether you're right or not over the next four years. The government doesn't have to censor when there are left-leaning companies to do it for them. If it can happen to groups and individuals on social media, if it can happen to a whole platform, there's no reason it shouldn't happen to blogs. I guess we'll see about that too.

  37. Why are there always so many negative comments on this site? You all have hundreds of shows that portray your world. You can count the shows on one hand that are clean and wholesome and portray Christian values. No one is telling you to live this way. Are you people really so mean and nasty that you’ve got to constantly bully this family and by extension, their audience? You people act like you’re so above everything and inclusive but you are the small-minded ones. You’ve now got everything going the way you want it and the rest of us are cowered and belittled and constantly muzzled in saying anything we believe in. But you won’t rest until you take this away from us, too. Please just go away and leave us alone. All you are doing is fomenting more hate.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Please explain how that show is so clean and wholesome and portrays such Christian values, when behind the scenes (and then on camera and on their website) they had to publicly admit that some very un-Christian things had been happening? I'm afraid that what you've chosen to believe is not the reality of this "reality" show. Who has "muzzled" you? You said what you wanted and it was posted.

    2. Right on, 6:34.

    3. Christians have family problems like everyone else. They also make decisions for their children that aren't always the best. But, I, too am so tired of the "slings and arrows" directed at the Duggars. Don't like it/them? Stop watching and griping. I enjoy watching the girls who have grown into beautiful women with families/lives of their own.

    5. @12:33 Do you really know those grown girls? Do you know what they stand for and believe in?

    6. If you watch the show and use your spiritual eyes, you'll see that the integrity is not so well... There's so much bending the truth in it.... That is not the way Jesus would live and speak... So there is no reason to adore this family so much... They are not representatives for Christians. Not when you can see through the outside...

    7. Four things comes to mind here:
      1. Ellie & Lily created this board and issued an open invitation to the public to comment on the Duggars on this board.
      2. Ellie & Lily ultimately determine what they will allow to be posted here comment-wise, whether to spark discussion, further discussion, or to promote interest in this blog/the Duggars. They are the content managers. All comments are vetted by them prior to posting, per their disclaimers.
      3. If comments are posted that fans perceive as rude, unkind, negative, "slings and arrows", etc. and that fans disagree with/are offended by, then the question fans should be asking themselves is why are Ellie & Lily posting those comments?
      4. The reality is that like all families (Christian or not), the Duggar family is dysfunctional because it's made up of human beings and we're all fallible. None of us are perfect. Christians (actual Bible-believing, Christ-following people) are not perfect-they are in the process of being re-created in the image of God. It means they know they are sinners (people committing acts God would not do) because they have a sin nature (the desire to do wrong and please ourselves even if it harms someone else in some way). They recognize they can't save themselves, recognize Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross, gratefully receive God's grace, and are diligently learning God's ways and applying them to themselves and sincerely trying to live their lives honoring God. Actual Christians are grieved when they sin because they know they've let their Father down and they've likely harmed someone else in the process (emotionally or damaged the other person's trust) and they're committed to not repeating the sin. Christians (people who follow Christ) admit it when they sin-they don't minimize, justify, call it by a softer sounding name like "mistake"or "misinformation", lie, or try to hide it (none of those things are God's nature). Unfortunately, the Duggars have not been open and up front about some serious issues in their family (which have come to light) and it appears they've been "enhancing/exaggerating" some aspects of their lives for the show (both of which are inconsistent with their stated beliefs). They should expect to be called out for those things, if they are Christ-followers, because those attitudes and actions are inconsistent with God's nature. Fans need to face up to the fact and openly admit that the Duggars have sinned and do sin, as all human beings do. Some fans don't want to admit that, so they'll attack the poster instead they disagree with instead. By the same token, there's always going to be some who just can't wait for a Christian to fall, so they can gloat because they don't like to think of themselves as sinners (much less hear anyone say it or suggest it).

    8. I know some people think mocking others is entertaining, but I agree with 6:34.

      Delete
    9. Well said 8:46. There are many people on here who seem to have disdain for Christian and more conservative beliefs and attack even the nicest posts. Posts like this and others that should be uncontroversial. It's sad.

  38. I decided that from this point forward that I am going to take myself and my business else where since I don’t feel welcomed here or on the bates blog. I’ve also made the decision that it’s time for me to step down and stop watching the Duggar’s reality show.

I’m Catholic and to be a priest it requires a bachelors degree then three more years of full time seminary. With the other Christian denominations the requirements to pastors vary greatly.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The requirements to be an ordained pastor varies a great deal and it depends on which church Ben was ordained in. In my experience in several churches it usually means that someone has completed a course of study that the church sets up and that qualifies the person to act in a leadership role. It rarely means the person being ordained is going to be paid. Some churches ordain deacons too. I think Ben should keep his TV job if he wants to support his family.

    2. At 4:39, that's a good question. I wondered the same thing when I read it.

    3. I prefer FedEx to U.

    6. I'm thinking the OP probably meant "props to U", and it auto-corrected. Just a guess.

  55. Good for Ben! For a 25-year old he's done well - school, theology college, pastorship. He is so lucky to have Jessa to be suppiortive of it all, with 3 kids, and that they have Jessa's family to help them financially.

  57. It's weird how so many people comment without even reading the caption, which usually answers their questions.

    1. I think the wording was changed to make it more clear. There was no mention of a church earlier, just the ordination.

    2. 9:48 - It so very plainly says it is for a church, so church is mentioned but it doesn't specify what church.

    3. Ahhh okay, that makes sense.

    4. 10:59, it did not say anything about a church when it was first posted. It was edited to add the part about a church (as I already stated. I saw both versions.).

  58. The more I get to know Ben (through the show and social media), the more I like him. Congrats Ben!! I bet you’ll do wonderful things.

  59. Why would they keep the name of the church a secret? I've never heard of a pastor who wouldn't let it be known where he was pastor. Is the church planning to keep this a secret too?

    1. There are many times when a pastor is leaving a church that they don’t want it out there yet or when a new church has hired them but they are just waiting for all the checklists to be complete and it isn’t 100% final that they will wait. They may also wish to keep it quiet to keep the crazies from overwhelming the church with hate mail and phone calls during a transition 🤷🏼‍♀️

    2. I think they don't want curious fans to hang around the church. Some fans are eager to see the Duggars in person and can be quite a nuisance.

    3. This is a completely different scenario than most pastors. Most pastors aren't on a reality show with lots of fans and also lots of people who go on social media to gossip, falsely accuse, and judge them. They probably don't want the show to interfere with their ministry.

    4. Don't want "curious fans" - ? Derick has openly invited anyone to join them at his church. I thought the whole point of church was to bring more people in to hear the good word. If a pastor can't stand up and be proud of which church he serves, then should he be serving it?

    5. He's not hiding. He's been doing podcasts for a church for months.

    6. If they don't want the show to interfere with his ministry position, then maybe it's time to let the show go. Perhaps that's why Jeremy & Jinger are billing themselves as the "breakout stars of Counting On" and why TLC is featuring them as the cameo picture. Not sure about anyone else on this board, but my Pastors all have full-time jobs called the ministry. None of them have enough time for side gigs, between their Church responsibilities, their families and extended families, and their personal self-care (exercise, personal self-care time). None of them run a side business (or two), a sponsored Youtube channel, or have time for that. My uncle was Pastor of a very small country Church and both he and his wife worked full-time jobs and raised a son, in addition to pastoring...definitely no time to sell hats & candles or write/sell/promote a book while they "star" on a TV show. LOL

    1. I thought they weren't allowed to have church services in California? That's the last place I'd want to pastor.

    2. I doubt it. California isn't being very church-friendly.

    3. Jeremy is a student. The only way Ben would move to CA is if he went for more studying. Also Jessa was always saying she wanted to stay close to her family.

    4. 8:55 They can have indoor services with restrictions, just like every business. If one is dedicated to being a pastor, it means being flexible under any and all circumstances, including a worldwide pandemic. A building is not required to preach, especially now in the tech age. I'm tired of certain churches making claims of government discrimination.

  63. I winder what's next for Ben and Jessa. Will they join a church close by to where they live now or if they move. But if they move, Ben would have to provide for the family, so I think they will stay where they are.

  64. Maybe they will make their own church. Folks would come from near and far to get to see Ben and Jessa Seewald and their children.
