  1. I imagine they'll be praying for a Trump victory, so I won't tune in. I'll be praying for a Blue Wave!!!

    1. You just had to go there, didn’t you? This country will need peace and healing after the election no matter WHO wins. We should all be praying in my opinion.

    2. Who knows what will happen? Frankly, I don't think religious leaders should support one candidate over another. We don't live in a theocracy after all.

    4. I bet they won't. Our country needs God's help, no matter who gets in.

    5. I have long followed this family, this blog, their show, social media, etc. I enjoy all of the things I just mentioned. BUT, I completely agree with you. Their political views are one thing I strongly disagree with them on. I will also be praying (have been praying) for a “blue wave.”

    10. I’m in the UK but I really hope Joe Biden wins your election. At the moment I don’t think either Trump or our PM Boris Johnson have handled this pandemic well at all. They are like two bumbling buffoons in their behaviour. I also am not sure if religious leaders should become so involved in politics, but that’s only my personal opinion.

    11. If you are praying for a Blue wave then you must be praying to Baal. Claiming to be a Christian and voting democrat (death to full term babies!) is an oxymoron. The immorality/amorality of democrats is astounding - so utterly lost and corrupt.

    12. Based on all the continuously nasty, snarky remarks that are ALWAYS in the comment section of this blog, I am not in the least surprised by the comments supporting the utterly corrupt democrats.

    13. Fuzzyferet I don't know how your Boris handled the covid pandemic but our President Trump shut down travel from China as soon as it was made clear that this covid was from there and it was Biden who called him racist for doing it. Our President equipped the state's with ventilator machines, masks etc. He started immediately getting the pharmaceutical labs to produce a vaccine which they have been producing in human trials now. This was something totally new to us and to expect anyone to have all the answers to a virus we knew nothing about is unreasonable. What we do know about is that a child in the womb can be slaughtered in my country at any stage and now even right after birth too. Biden the one you want to win is perfectly ok with their slaughter but our President values life and stands for the unborn. So if we want to talk about care and concern for American citizens, we pick Trump over a bumbling baffoon who could care less about the life of the innocent and who called Trump a racist for trying to protect us.

    14. You'd better fact check that "death to full term babies!" claim, because it is FALSE.

      Delete
    15. 11:47 Have you watched his town halls or visited his website? He certainly is more clear about the big issues moving forward than Trump has been.

      Delete
    16. Trump has fast tracked vaccines and treatments for covid to save lives. He has done so much but people won’t admit it. Joe has NO plans for anything

      Delete
    17. 10:47 - because that’s a good thing? I’m very pro vax but fast tracking a vaccine is dangerous. I’d rather have them take their time and do it right.

    18. Anon 9.44. What you say maybe true but my point is his blatant flouting of the socially distancing rules. He is hugging people & not wearing a mask which is very irresponsible. We too have had this issue with our PM. I have also heard Trump speaking about using bleach to cleans the body so as not to get Covid, I’m sorry but as a medical professional I cannot understand why he has said such stupid things & has behaved in such an irresponsible way. Boris Johnson also went round shaking hands with dozens of people & not wearing a mask (until he ended up in ICU with Covid). That’s my point about both leaders not handling things well & let’s be honest, both our countries have thousands more deaths than most, which is nothing to be happy about.

    19. Anon 12:43 You might want to check your facts because it's absolutely true that they will kill your baby after its born alive if the mother wants it dead. Ralph Northam of Virginia said it right on the news and explained how they would do it. So no it's not false, it defiant and horrendous that it is hapoening, but it is hapoening, oh and he is Democrat but I guess that's obvious since they are the party of pro slaughter of the innocent.

    20. You have brilliantly proven what many "reds" believe to be true about the "blues" -- it's all about your blue politics. This was purposely and clearly stated to be a non-political post. It's a night of prayer for Americans and for our country. And I think it's great!

      Delete
    21. I wouldn't be caught dead voting Blue, but more than anything else, I pray for this country to return to God. I think we are paying the price for having turned away from Him in many ways.

    22. I think a prayer session that is inclusive (all faith traditions welcome, not only evangelicals)during which Americans can all join (remotely, of course)to pray for guidance, tolerance of others and for a peaceful conclusion of the election cannot hurt.

The US is in deep trouble. Americans need as much help they can get.
The coming months will be difficult and grim in the US.

    23. @6:49 Are you talking about a 2019 VA bill that DIDN'T pass? Are you talking about something that DOESN'T exist?? Sure sounds as if you are.

      Delete
    24. Virginia resident here- Anonymous @ 6:49 above was 100% correct. Governor Northam stated clearly and unapologetically that he is in full support that a mother can choose for any reason to set aside her baby to die at any moment after the birth the medical staff will not be allowed to intervene to save the child. That is included in his definition of abortion, as a physician...and unbelievably scary that he's a pediatric neurologist. That practice was common to Rome and the Spartans, as well as the Mayans. We're such an enlightened, advanced, "woke" culture (sarcasm intended). He's also stated that he fully supports partial birth abortion-inducing labor and delivering the baby up to the neck (feet-first presentation) and suctioning out the brain and removing the head or delivering the entire head (head first presentation) and suctioning out the brain, then removing the body. I've lived in Virginia since 1974 and that's my governor, so I should know. It's all well-documented, in his own words. and easily accessible. I welcome you to fact check it for yourself.

      Delete
    25. That bill never got signed into law so why are you so upset about it?

  2. Thank you Ellie for posting this, my family and I will definitely be tuning in to watch it. Our Country needs prayer for leaders to stand for Godly principles and wisdom and to defend our bill of rights and who protect LIFE.

    2. If the ultimate goal is to reduce abortions, then there should be better access to women's health care, including birth control, as well as services and supports that make it easier for young women in precarious situations to be willing to keep their baby. The right has not made those things priorities. Taking care of the baby after its born and ensuring that a mom has the resources she needs are just as important as keeping that baby alive in the womb. You can be pro-life and still believe a woman has a right to choose her medical care with the help of her doctor--as not all abortions are "birth control". I've never been in that situation to consider it so I can't possibly understand the pressures that some women are under, and it's not my place to make that decision for them--either way. Banning abortions outright will not eliminate the demand for them, so you will have women seeking out back alley, unsafe procedures that put them at risk for death. As it is now, restrictive abortion laws can actually make late term abortion more common as not all women have immediate access to a nearby clinic or the money they need for the procedure when it's still "acceptable" or legal, so by the time they have those things it's even later in their term. And, for the record, even late-term abortions need a medical reason, and the laws are there at least in part to help women whose babies are not viable but are not spontaneously miscarrying if they choose to not carry a dying baby to term due to emotional distress (again, not my place to decide such a personal choice). We can't just force women to make choices that WE don't have to live with, and making one mistake should not sentence them to a life they're not prepared to live. While we as Christians want that baby to live, and most non-Christians would agree that's preferable as well, reality is far more complicated. There is a common ground here to find better programs to serve these women in crisis, and calling the other side "baby killers" isn't going to get us there. For an example of what I'm talking about above, Google "Scary Mommy Embree abortion" and a very personal story about how late-term abortion laws can serve a purpose will come up. I'm sure it won't change your mind but I hope it gives insight that it's not all about letting people kill babies at will. Who really wants that?! Stop believing the one-sided coverage and please understand there are valid reasons why these laws exist. And if this election is all about a Christian stance on abortion, how can Christians keep ignoring the name calling and bullying that is happening every day in the White House right now? Or the long list of sexual indiscretions that Trump has never shown remorse for? God doesn't like that behavior either. Christians should have far more to consider when voting.

      Delete
    4. No offense intended, but in Virginia you don not need a medical reason for a late term abortion. All you need is a doctor to state that the pregnancy is not in your best medical interest meaning that it could/would adversely affect your mental health by causing you stress. It does not require any record of mental illness, history of verifiable depression, or any other medical proof on an adverse mental health claim. There are plenty of pro-abortion doctors in Virginia who would easily state such a claim to support that abortion and be happy to accept that paycheck.

    1. We assure you that this is not becoming a political blog. The online event is simply a time of prayer for the country the night before an election. No one is endorsing any political candidates. No matter who you will be voting for, we can all get together and pray for God's guidance for our country.

      Lily and Ellie

      Delete
    2. Ellie: Perhaps you didn't mean to be political but I think promoting this event was a bad idea. It will lead to many posting political comments based on their strongly held beliefs regarding the candidates for president.

    4. Very good sentiments. In this time of world upheaval & so much death & suffering because of this pandemic we all need extra prayers & so long as this event isn’t endorsing one candidate over another (I don’t think religious leaders should become involved in politics), then prayer in whatever form is a good thing.

    5. Thank you Lily & Ellie! We're in the Jesus 2020 camp in our household. God's already been to Election Day, as He knows the beginning from the end. We're not getting spun up about this election or the candidates. We're praying God's will be done here, as it is in Heaven. The souls of the people in this nation outweigh party allegiance. As for voting, it's really pretty simple: If you identify as a Christian, you'll vote according to the principles God laid out in His Word (which means anti-abortion because it is killing) because He is God. If not, you're not a Christ-follower; you're following someone or something else (like the culture). It's really pretty simple.

    6. Did you even READ the post? It clearly states to be not taking one side or another, just a night of prayer for our country. I think your comment demonstrates that division can often be rooted in misunderstanding.

      Delete
    7. Yes, I read the post and I still stand by mine. I did not state a party affiliation, but I clearly struck a nerve with you. Killing is still killing and many here claim Christ, who very bluntly instructed us not to kill. I'm sorry if that offends you, but it's still true whether you or anyone else agrees or not. The ladies choosing abortion have souls, as do the babies they're killing. You apparently didn't read my post...the souls of the people in this nation including those who seek the abortion, the abortion providers and their employees, and the babies aborted matter more than a political party.

      Delete
    8. 8:48 Where in the Bible does it say that the unborn have a soul? It does say this: Genesis 2:7, "God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and it was then that the man became a living soul”. Although the man was fully formed by God in all respects, he was not a living being until after taking his first breath.

    11. Abortion is a good thing for a variety of reasons. And the Pope now endorses gay marriage! What’s next?

      Delete
    12. @7:05 What a terrible thing to imply, that women will abort a handicapped baby if given the chance.

      Delete
    13. If "gay marriage" is not holy or of God, why does the Pope support it? He came out this week saying that gay people have "a right to be in a family" and that "nobody should be thrown out or made miserable about it." If the head of the Catholic Church can extend such tolerance, the rest of the world should be able to also.

      Delete
    14. Nope, the Pope is going against the Bible, showing he's not truly a man of God.

      Delete
    15. 3:10, women DO abort babies when they find out they might have a medical problem. I have heard so many stories of women who were told by doctors that they should abort because of a medical problem, and some of them choose not to and have healthy babies! I know some personally. Others listen to their doctors and abort. My former mayor's wife aborted because she was told her baby had a medical problem. Sure it happens.

  16. We have achieved our 6-3 majority on the High Court which has been our long-standing and noble goal to protect the unborn! Therefore, it is now our obligation as Christians to direct our pro-life votes to support the refugee, the immigrant, the stranger, the elderly and the disabled (“whatsoever you do to the least do My people, that you do unto Me”). Recall that the Holy Family was reliant upon the kindness of strangers during its flight into Egypt. Please consider how the current administration’s COVID policies have relegated the elderly and infirmed to utter insignificance — to mere statistics. My American grandparents are not numbers; they are Christians who deserve our honor and respect. I am thrilled that we now have the requisite votes on the High Court to protect the unborn. However, my grandparents are not part of an “over-80 expendable cohort”; they are Godly, gracious and holy people who, should they pass, deserve to have proper Christian funerals surrounded by their families and friends. I pray that you vote to reject the callous, inhumane and unscientific rhetoric and policies of this administration. Please pray about your vote, recognize the tremendous judicial goals we have achieved to protect the unborn and consider how your vote may further the pro-life needs of the immigrant, refugee, stranger, elderly and disabled now that the unborn have been judicially protected. May God bless each reader of this blog and bless the great nation that is the USA.

    7. Anonymous@11:14- You obviously have not read the founding documents for yourself. The Constitution does NOT contain the phrase separation of Church and state, nor does it address that concept. It does not advocate a separation of Church and state, period. The First Amendment explicitly states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free speech thereof...". In plain English it states that Congress shall not make a law establishing a religion. The founding fathers came from England where the King was the head of the Protestant Church and if you were not Protestant, you could be killed. Congress cannot declare a national religion. It also clearly states in plain English that Congress shall not prohibit the free speech of religion. Therefore, Congress cannot deny any individual the right to express their religious beliefs or practices.

      Delete
    8. 11:14 Actually, when our founding fathers wrote to keep church and state separate they were talking about an actual state sponsored religion, like the Church of England. Many of them were very religious men themselves.

Side note... My comment is in no way meant to disparage the Church of England.

      Delete
    9. @9:27 The First Amendment IS part of the Constitution. Therefore, the Constitution does include that.

      Delete
    10. 3:13, read 9:27 again. The first amendment is limiting the Congress from restricting our religious freedoms, not saying their should be a separation of church and state. Separation is NOT found anywhere in the Constitution.

  22. To the Christians on this board: Please explain how you can possibly back a candidate who has publicly demonstrated a lifetime of very un-Christian morals. How can you overlook everything he has done in his personal life that goes completely against your Christian values? Don't you see that he is only feeding you what you want to hear in order to gain your vote? Can't you see who he really is or what he really stands for? For the past 4 years, I have not been able to understand this overlooking and acceptance by the Christian voters. Please explain that logic.

    1. I have seen the things he has done. Been pro-Israel (God told Abraham that He would bless those who blessed Abraham and his descendants), been pro-life (not like Dems who cheered last year when states were pushing abortions up til birth- wicked!), been pro-school choice, been pro-religious freedom (It's the Democrats who were fining people for sitting in their own cars in church parking lots); Trump said that people shouldn't be fined for going to church, etc. A vote for Biden is a vote for ripping away people's rights, people's safety (Biden has not condemned the violent, pro-communist, and murderous BLM). He said 7 and 8 year olds should be allowed to choose whether they "change genders." He has failed at running for president in the past for things like racist statements and plagiarism. He had an adulterous affair and married the wife of a man working for his former campaign. Now we have the Hunter Biden bombshell that the corrupt media is trying so hard to cover up. Go read the #walkaway testimonies of all the people who have had their eyes opened to the gross corruption of the Democrat party and have walked away. There are a million reasons to vote Trump, and I've only scratched the surface. We are not voting for who will be our next pastor. We are voting for freedom or socialism.

    2. @1:00 Trump surely has the evangelicals in his pocket and I don't understand it either. If he had been a member of their churches, he'd have been excommunicated or shunned, or the evangelical equivalent of that. At the very least, he'd have been brought before the board or the congregation and made to confess and apologize. He would not be a member in good standing. Yet they strongly want him to be the leader of the country? I don't understand.

      Delete
    3. And you think Biden is so morally superior? Unfortunately, neither has a stellar background. We have a choice between two flawed men, but one of them is running on a platform that is definitely more based on Biblical values. I voted against Hillary at the last minute. I was about to vote independent for the first time, but I just couldn't throw a vote toward Hillary. So I was no Trump fan or apologist. But if you actually look at the list of what Trump has accomplished, it's a pretty long, impressive list. I didn't know about most of it, and do you know why? Because the media only pushes a negative narrative. And the only reason they do it is because he has an R next to his name on that ballot. Do you know how many mainstream media people are Democrats? The scale is tipped way past the line of a fair balance, and you can sure tell. Do you know how many stories I've heard of former Democrats who have walked away this year because they heard Trump say one thing at press conferences and then heard media lie about what he said? A lot.

      Delete
    4. If Trump is just feeding what voters want to hear, then why did he actually accomplish so much that his voters wanted? Do you even know what he has actually done the past four years? Because if you're only listening to the biased major media stories, they aren't telling you.

    7. Well, you're badly mistaken if you think the Democrats have a better choice for Christians. Abortion, including up to the point of birth? Limiting home schooling? Aiding and abetting those who are killing policemen and destroying peoples' livelihoods with their false narrative of racial equality? Calling the president a racist in January when he cut off travel from China because of Covid? I have seen so much hypocrisy, gaslighting, slander, and outright lying from the other party this year that it makes Trump look like a choir boy.

    8. @2:26. Couldn’t agree more! Thanks for voicing your opinion exactly the way I would have! We pray that God will have mercy on our country and that however the election goes, we as Christians can be a light into the darkness of this world.

    9. Anonymous @1:00PM- As Christ-follower, I'd like to respond to your post by saying I'm definitely not a Trump fan by any means, but if the standard is "Christian morals", Joe Biden is as equally lacking, if not more so. You do realize that Joe Biden had an affair with the wife of one of his biggest supporters (that's how she became Mrs. Jill Biden)= un-Christian morals for a professing Catholic? You also realize that's it's a well-established fact, with countless pictures across all major news media outlets to prove it, that Joe Biden can't seem to keep his hands off of girls and women (from little girls on up) right? Un-Christian morals. You also realize that Joe Biden has lied to the American public (and been caught in it) countless times about his military service, unions & other organizations supporting him (who have publicly stated that they do not), climate change policies (denying his own website's material), and on and on and on= un-Christian morals for a professing Catholic. He cannot seem to remember that he's running for the President of the United States, as he repeatedly asserts he's running for the U.S. Senate (no slam intended to Mr. Biden, but evidence that there's something very seriously physiologically wrong with his memory that honestly concerns me). Joe Biden has supported killing developing human babies in the womb for decades= Un-Christian morals for a professing Catholic. Joe Biden has spent decades oppressing people of color (as have the Democratic party-do your homework people and research who was in positions of state and local government across the South post-Civil War through Jim Crow through desegregation and you'll find it was overwhelmingly the Democrats- Un-Christian morals for a professing Catholic). You also realize that Joe Biden stated "I wish we taught more in our schools about the Islamic Faith" (but we're not supposed to be teaching religion in public school...Christianity or otherwise)= Un-Christian morals for a professing Catholic. Public School Curriculums already teach the Seven Pillars of Islam, the history of Islam and it's founder, and Islam's contributions to the world. What more does Joe Biden wish we taught concerning Islam? Do you have any idea how much money is channeled into the Democratic party via Islamic nations? With their deplorable and well-documented centuries of human rights abuses, is that who you really want "supporting" the United States and influencing public policy and our economy? More of those un-Christian morals for a professing Catholic. Joe Biden makes a regular practice of public cursing= still more of those un-Christian morals for a professing Catholic. If we're going to apply a standard, both candidates have to measured by the same standard.

    10. Pro Israel doesn't help the US except in arms sales, democrats don't believe in abortions at birth, BLM is not violent nor communist, ticketing people in cars at churches because they broke the law and was in no way taking away their religious rights, and the list goes on. Just because Trump says something doesn't mean he is telling the truth, do your research and check credible sources.

      Delete
    11. @2:26- Murderous BLM? I think you're confusing crazed opportunist criminals and killers with peaceful protesters. Contrary to your distorted view, there are murdering extremists from all points. The FBI confirmed that some of the distruction during the riots in Minneapolis was instigated by White Supremists from out of state. While I don't agree with BLM stance on defunding the police, I do think there's a blind spot with Trump and his supporters regarding police brutality directed at POC. The reason things blew up last summer was because George Floyd was killed by a cop who had no cause to do so. This is a tragic pattern in many areas of our country and I can't, for the life of me, understand why those protesting abortion turn a blind eye to the killing going on by those who are charged with protecting everyone. Instead, they blame the victims. IMO, Donald Trump has only succeeded in fanning the flames of social unrest, racial strife, and division. Instead, he should focus his energies on police reform, better training, and for the love of heaven- stop lying about the seriousness of this pandemic.

    13. 10:41, I didn't mention the pandemic, so I can't possibly be lying about it. The Democrats were dogging on Trump in January for closing down travel from China because of the virus and said he was being racist. Fact. Also fact that BLM, which stated on their website that they were against the nuclear family, pro-homosexuality, and other things that have nothing to do with improving race relations, has been fomenting hatred, anger, and violence on purpose, as part of their Pro-Marxist goals. They are using race as a way to divide and conquer. Do some research.

      Delete
    14. Uhm, you do know that the founders of BLM are openly and proudly Marxist, right? They've stated it unequivocably. BLM leaders in several of the "problem" cities have openly advocated violence and arson...The violent take it by force mentality at play. I'd also encourage you to research George Floyd's criminal record and read the actual documents of the case, as well as all of the information on the Breonna Taylor case (instead of what select news media stations choose to report). I realize it's a lot more convenient to just listen to the news and the soundbites and catch a story on social media. It does take more time to actually do the research, but it's there. The statistics simply do not support the BLM narrative when black on black crime is the highest criminality group. Black lives don't matter to blacks (that doesn't make actual real racism or discrimination okay by any means, no matter who's practicing it).

      Delete
    15. Anon 10:41 white Supremist caused some of the destruction? What white supremist? That was BLM and Antifa out there doing that destruction and shooting and killing cops and people. No matter how hard you people try to push the narrative that this was the work of white supremacist we will not believe it because we all seen the truth with our own eyes. We also don't believe that the cops are hunting and killing black folks. How you can possible compare the hundreds of thousands of abortions that take place to the few cop shootings is the reason we don't take you serious. There will always be a few bad people in any profession and we need to weed them out but to act like cops are hunting black people is ridiculous. It's not President Trump fanning flames of division, it is the Democratic race obsessing, division causing, the victim game that they constantly push with the race card about everything, and we see right through what they are doing. It's shameful!!!

      Delete
    16. 9:37 Sounds like you are saying that it doesn't matter that George Floyd was killed, because he had a record. He was held down with the cop's knee on his neck for almost 9 minutes, even after he lost conciousness. How is that ok to you?

    17. Anonymous @ 4:43- Speaking the verifiable truth is not "character assassination", but you attacking me rather than providing verifiable facts to contradict my statements tells me a lot about your character. People who have no facts to bring to the debate will always attack the their opponent when they can't win. Classic. I personally don't like Donald Trump. In my opinion, his temper displays and choice of language don't dignify what I think the Presidential Office should stand for. I'm not crazy about his multiple marriages or his view of women (but all of the same can be said of Joe Biden as well). I don't vote by party loyalty or political platform. My plumb line is what God says in His Word on abortion and Israel ("Thou shalt not kill." and "I will contend with those who contend with you", respectively). You're free to use your free will to vote whatever way you choose.

      Delete
    3. @11:40 Several reasons why we non-Americans know so much about US politics.

The world is all inter-connected. No country is an island. And the US foreign policy can and does have significant impact on other countries.

Countries have trade agreements with the US; our economies are interconnected. When the US economy goes into recession, our economies slow down too.

Your internal policies spill over to us. For example, most of the guns used in crimes in my country were smuggled across the border from the US. We are having Americans coming here looking to buy medications such as insulin because they are cheaper here and, as a result, putting our supply in danger. We are seeing a significant increase of people crossing our border from the US and declaring refugee status.

Now, with the pandemic, the border is closed except for essential workers (our nurses working in the US) and trade. We closed the border and it will stay closed, I suspect, for at least another 6 months or even a year.

In other words, we have to deal with whoever is elected president and his policies.

And, we tend to have a higher general level education than most Americans. We not only follow the events in our home countries (many of us are first and second generation citizens), we follow the events in other countries, especially G20 countries. Even high school students can tell you who the President of France is, the PM of Great Britain, of India, of Pakistan, the President of Russian, the PM of Australia and of New Zealand (fantastic woman!)......

The other reason is that our news tend to be more balanced than in the US and news events from other countries are covered.

    4. In Europe (the UK at least) Trump and US politics are an everyday feature on our own new programmes.
The UK isn’t really a religious country and Europe is mainly a lot more left leaning than the US, so we don’t have ‘The Christian Vote’ and moralistic voting just seems a bit weird.

For everyone who is posting comments pro Trump, anti Trump, pro Biden, anti Biden, I would like to make the following call: before you start any discussion about the election, write 5 arguments why Trump should be president, why he should not be president, why Biden should be president, why Biden should not be president. Make all the (20) arguments convincing with supporting facts and evidence (based on research). You can only start a usefull discussion with convincing arguments and with empathy towards your opponents if you truly research all points of view. The doctor describes the damage and the chances of survival to the mother who’s lying on the table, and the mother indicates that it’s ok for the doctor to finish it off (or not).
