Prayer Event Response

Hello to our loyal blog readers. It's Lily and Ellie, the blog authors. Three days ago, we posted about an upcoming online event: a night of worship and prayer for the United States and the upcoming election. The event will feature Jeremy Vuolo, a member of the Duggar clan, and is thus an appropriate subject for a blog about the Duggar family.

We are approaching the 11-year anniversary of our blog. When the Duggars used to book frequent public speaking engagements, we posted about all kinds of events on a regular basis, and no one seemed to mind. For some reason, the post we released three days ago generated a political debate.

We want to reassure you that this is not a political event. We received confirmation from the event organizers that there will be no endorsements made for political candidates. It is simply a time for Americans to worship and pray for God's guidance for our country. We are very much looking forward to this event, and many of you have shared that you will be tuning in, as well.

  1. Thank you Ellie and Lily( By the way, how are you Lily?). Frankly I think the political comments shouldn't be approved to avoid another debate.
I will be praying and will be tuning in for this event. It's so important for Christians to be praying during this time.

  3. Awe, I'm sorry that people take things out of context. This blog is about events in life, that members of this family are involved in. That's exactly what you posted. So thank you for all of your work on this blog for fans of the Duggars and fans of Lily and Ellie!

  4. Lilly &Ellie you don't have to apologize for anything. I appreciate your hard work on this blog.We unfortunately live in heated times.Like you said this is an event to unite all people. The purpose is not to promote a party or person. We all can still love & respect each others differences in opinion and parties.I pray whatever the outcome of this election. Peace for all of the U.S.A. The last election saw many divisions in families and friendships. That is so disheartening. So I support anybody trying to bring, peace, love and hope at this time.

  5. I appreciate the sentiment of promoting an event Jeremy is speaking at, but in light of our country’s current climate, it had to be pretty obvious the comments were going to get political in a hurry. This might not have been the event to promote on this blog.

  6. When you run the blog, you get to choose what to write about! I thought your post was totally appropriate!

  7. Well duh! Some people can get so political minded on political parties that they can become rude. No matter if Trump or Biden wins is in God's hands. We need to trust Him no matter what. As Christians, we need to keep our political views to ourselves and not discuss it heatedly with our friends and neighbors. We need to act as Christians and respect everyone no matter who or what party you vote for. Because that is what Jesus did in the Bible even though He spoke against the Jewish Pharisees and Sadusees (for a good reason too). I know a older man in our church whose a Democrat and noone understands why he is if he's against homosexuality and abortion. Guess maybe because he was raised that way before becoming a Christian. But anyways, just respect everyone no matter how they vote.🙂

    1. Just because you don't believe in/agree with homosexuality or abortion doesn't automatically make you a Republican. Taking care of the poor and disenfranchised is something the Democratic party believes in.

      Delete
    2. That's what they WANT you to think but really the Democrats do not care about poor people. They are selfishly and money motivated

      Delete
    3. The Democrats care about poor people so much that they want to take our money to give to them. Let's see the charitable giving records of all these Democrat politicians.

      Delete
    4. @10:08 I'm a Democrat and I'll gladly show you my charitable giving records. Over $2,000 (non-deductible) this year directly to a friend who was in need, to fix her car, buy medicines, and get groceries. $800 to several nature conservation groups. $100 cash plus food donations to an animal shelter. $2500 to United Way. Bags of stuff to a charity thrift store. I can pull the tax folder out and see if there are more. There's nothing wrong with giving to the needy and to good causes. I'm fortunate that I can help. We should all do our part to make the world better and to make people's lives easier, no matter what your party affiliation.

    5. @ Guser - History says otherwise. Democratic presidents have brought you directly or helped bring you:

      Women's right to vote
      The New Deal
      Social Security
      The Taft-Hartley Act
      The Marshall Plan
      The G-I Bill
      The UN
      NATO
      The Peace Corps
      Civil Rights
      Voting Rights
      Medicare
      ACA

I don't know how you could call any of those things "selfish."

  9. Lily & Ellie. How right you are about people not complaining years ago about any events you posted. Iv been following your blog (after coming across it accidentally) for 8 years. In those 8 years peoples comments have changed drastically. I followed the blog for years before ever posting a comment as I just loved reading what you had to say about this very interesting family. Please don’t let people’s responses to this post make you question what you do. I & am sure many others, have come to love this blog & feel the commenters & yourselves (though the majority of us do no know each other), see you all as ‘friends’ & I for one love hearing from some of the commenters who add their names to their posts. I agree that prayer, no matter who you follow politically, can only be a good thing at this time of world upheaval.

    1. I agree 100%!! I feel the same way as a long time follower, comments have definitely changed over the years. Thank you for all your hard work on this and the other blogs!

    2. Yeppp i too have been following this blog since the beginning and the comments have changed, for the worst, in my opinion. We are all still reading and enjoying the blog Lily/Ellie. We love you guys!

    3. Perhaps it's the Duggar's and their show who have changed too 6:19.

    3. Billy Graham passed away a couple years ago...perhaps you mean his son, Franklin?

    4. Really? Is he sending a message from Heaven?

    5. Anyone who would be surprised by political fighting on a website must be living in a bubble. Our entire country is in an upheaval right now and the internet is flooded with arguing back and forth. Christians have joined the fray just like everyone else, except that they use the Bible and their religious beliefs in their arguments. I dread four more years of craziness and really want it to pass. EXHAUSTED

    6. Fasting is ridiculous and solves nothing but hurting your own health.

      Delete
    7. Billy Graham is dead.

      Delete
    8. 12:35, it generally doesn't hurt your health to fast for a day.

      Delete
    9. 10:53, That is incorrect. The body needs nutrients and vitamins and dehydration amd low sugar level can kill you.

      Delete
    10. Fasting does not solve any problem. It is a waste of time and not good for anyone's health!

      Delete
    11. People with certain medical issues shouldn't fast, but it will not kill you to fast for a day. And you don't stop hydrating while you are fasting. It is also not a waste of time. I can tell you haven't actually researched the point of Biblical fasting.

      Delete
    12. So, if Trump wins, prayers were answered, but if Biden wins, God wasn't listening?

      Delete
    13. @10:11 There were a lot of things done or mentioned in the Bible that are not good ideas to do now. Plucking eyes, stoning, cutting off hands, and so on. You could add fasting to that list somewhere.

      Delete
    14. 12:26, fasting is a spiritual discipline, a temporary thing that is in no way comparable to removing a body part.

      Delete
  12. Ellie, surely you realized the storm that topic would set off.

  13. "For some reason" the post became political? The event is about "America & Election". It is being held by conservative Evangelicals. OF COURSE the discussion will become political!

  20. They'd better pray for Jeremy's church too because it has had to report a Covid outbreak.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Are people with Covid the point of this particular meeting?

      Delete
    2. Three (3) people at Grace Community Church testing positive out of a congregation of about 7,000 is not "an outbreak," despite what the media tells you. That's a rate of 0.0004285. Sounds really scary, huh?

      Delete
    3. 8:17 I doubt every member of the church has been tested yet, nor those with whom they had contact. 3 confirmed cases can lead to many times that in short order. It is scary when a church of this size blatantly defies public health orders, is it not? Aren't they supposed to be All Lives Matter advocates, including a fertilized egg?

      Delete
    4. 8:17 According to the current health order in that county, which you can find online if you're wondering, all places of worship must report an outbreak of 3 or more known cases to the Public Health Department. The department will then work with the church to determine contacts and to do further testing. So while you think the number is low, it's only the tip of the iceberg and it's a number that is considered an outbreak and must be reported. It's not media hype, it's the terms of the standing order in that county.

    3. I know several former Trump voters who are voting for Biden this time, so there's that too. The last one I spoke to talked of disillusionment with what the Republican party has become. Valid point.

    2. Please refrain from trying to dictate how people live their lives. If you are so germ conscious, then remain at home.

      Delete
    3. Hmmm, why would the "germ conscious" have to remain at home? Because the people who aren't careful are spreading a virus like wildfire? Is it their intention to continue meeting and congregating without masks until everyone gets sick? How about we make those people stay home and then the "germ conscious" would be free to move around safely.

      Delete
    4. 8:02 What an insensitive comment, given the number of people who are dead from the virus. You make it sound as if virus-carrying people deserve to be out and around, and healthy people should stay home. It should be the direct opposite! No wonder the cases are climbing at such high rates if people have the wrong attitude.

      Delete
    5. @ 8:02

How this virus spreads is everyone's business.
