Kendra's 8th Sibling

When Joseph Duggar married Kendra Caldwell in September 2017, Kendra was the oldest of seven children. About five months after Joe and Kendra welcomed their son Garrett Duggar, Kendra's parents, Paul and Christina Caldwell, delivered their eighth child.

As we posted in August, Kendra is expecting Baby #3 in February 2021. Her mom just announced that she is pregnant, as well. Baby #9 is due in May 2021. Congratulations to the Caldwells! Paul and Christina currently have five boys and three girls.

And to add to the excitement, Lauren Caldwell (the second eldest) was just engaged to a guy named Titus. Congrats to the couple!

    1. With it only due in May, I’m pretty sure that they don’t know yet. And besides it’s not the Caldwell’s that the blog is actually about so to have gotten this news is a bonus, doubt we’ll hear anything more, till perhaps when the baby is born

    6. The rest of the kids can help, except the 2 year old. Boys can help as well as girls can.

The news tonight reminded us that it's "small gatherings in household groups" that's the latest identified source of community spread. Actually, hospitals have been reminding us of this possibility since the summer.

    5. I suppose for big families it's normal even if it is strange for other people who normally ask the aunt or uncle to babysit their niece or nephew, lol,in fact Kendra's eldest Garreth will be almost three when this aunt or uncle will be born in May.

    5. If they don’t believe in birth control, it isn’t strange at all. It is perfectly normal to still be intimate as you age.... grandparents or not.

      Delete
    6. 9:34, why would it be hard? If her body is capable of pregnancy, it's capable of breastfeeding. Being a grandma is a completely different matter.

      Delete
    7. John David absolutely said you should stop having kids when your kids are having kids! Wise advice! You’ve had kids, you’ve enjoyed and raised them; it’s now time to love on your grandchildren. Aren’t these people all about the different “seasons” of life???

  10. Didn’t she say on an episode that she was on a car accident when pregnant with Kendra that gave her subsequent difficult pregnancies? She seems like she was really struggling to walk on that episode. I don’t get why you would go through pregnancy so many times in her situation, it just seems risky.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I don’t think it raised the risk factor for her pregnancies, just made them more difficult. Women will go through quite a lot just to have a baby, look at women who go through IVF just for the chance.

  15. Seems Kendra is a lot more fertile than her mother who has babies every two to two and a half years, that's why she's ended up having nine,I presume this pregnancy will be her last, while Kendra could easily end up with double the amount of kids as she has them every year to year and a half, she seems to be as fertile as mom Michelle.

    ReplyDelete

    1. They were saying that during her first pregnancy (with Kendra), Kendra's mom was in a car accident and damaged her back, so her pregnancies are not very pleasant, like her back hurts or something. That's why maybe they tried to space kids out.

      Delete
    2. Fertile doesn't mean it's healthy for her body. Pregnancies should be spaced at least 18 months apart to give the body a chance to heal and replenish all that the previous pregnancy took from the mommy.
Kendra doesn't breastfeed but Christina does seem to so that also help to space the pregnancy and let the body heal.

      Delete
    3. Kendra may slow down as she realizes how busy she is with three little ones!

      Delete
    4. How do you know Kendra doesn't breastfeed? There have been several pictures of her with nursing covers on. Why would she wear them? Fashion?

      Delete
    5. 4:16, it's not that she's never done it, it's that she's had struggles with it.

      Delete
    6. 4:16 - she said that her supply ran out when Garrett was very young.

      Delete
    7. That's not unusual, when you become pregnant... Your body needs the energie for the new baby, so the milkproduction will be less...

      Delete
    8. It's not "energie" that changes milk production when you get pregnant.

      Delete
    9. If it is true that Kendra’s mom’s accident makes for more difficult births then maybe it’s time for Kendra’s dad to step up and say, “No more. I don’t want any more. It’s time to enjoy our grandchildren,” for Kendra’s mom’s sake.

  17. I have to wonder if these mega families would keep having kids if there wasn't the significant tax incentive for doing so. $2000 per child tax credit adds up. If their income is under a certain threshold, their tax liability is significantly reduced. They may pay no tax at all and get a hefty refund. Their defenders say at least they're not on the public dole, but in a big way they are. The rest of us who pay taxes are enabling them.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Bates were on the dole. Gil Bates said so when he took one of the kids to the doctor and pulled out his Medicaid card for which he expressed gratitude. You’re welcome, Gil. I guess.

      Delete
    2. You dont get it for every child and you have to make a certain amount, so i dont really think your opinion is valid.

      Delete
    3. We have 8 children because we love them not because of a tax credit!!!

      Delete
    4. Actually, it is homeschoolers who are subsidizing the public school crowd.

      Delete
    5. This is not the same as being on the dole. First of all the tax credit for children just recently increased under Trump and I am a tax professional and the child tax credit helps everyone in particular lower and middle income parents. This is not the same as being on public assistance as the tax laws continuously change and you need taxable income to get the credit. You have to work to get that taxable income and if the government wants to give working families a tax benefit these families more than give back their share in the communities with the extra they have to buy.

      Delete
    6. Clearly you don’t know much about child tax credits. It’s $2000 the year they’re born and $1000 every year after until a certain age. And there is a max amount of children you can get it for. Not to mention, they’re paying taxes and out of pocket expenses for their big families vs small families that use assistance, don’t pay taxes, and get credits.

      Delete
    7. Wow....I hope no one out there is having children just to get a tax break.

      Delete
    8. Omgoodness $2K tax credit is laughable! You can not raise a child in $2K a year so why would anyone suggest it’s why they have children?
The child tax credit provides a credit of up to $2,000 per child under age 17 (so stops at 16) If the credit exceeds taxes owed, families may receive up to $1,400 per child as a refund. There is also a $500 provision for college students
Hardly a reason to have 19
Children. They cost FAR more than a measly $2K tax credit hahaha

Curious how is tax payers are supporting them? They work. They pay their bills They pay taxes. They serve in their communities.
I believe they have children as they are convicted by their beliefs. I respect their right to chose as they see fit.

      Delete
    9. @8:10 Clearly, you are not informed about the more recent child tax credit rules. How long they will stay in place in anyone's guess, but currently you can claim $2,000 per year per qualifying dependent child under the age of 17 if AGI is under $400,000 for married couples filing jointly. So, if you have 5 qualifying kids in 2020, that's 10K off your tax liability.

      Delete
    10. @4:35 Funny, the Duggars have always made a point of emphasizing how little money they spend- you know, buy used and save the difference?! I doubt they're contributing a great deal to the economy, other than the paper plate and disposable diaper industries.

      Delete
    11. 8:12, they don't buy food or toiletries or gasoline used.

  26. Kendra's mom and dad look to be in their late thirties, so still young. They did start slowly having kids, in more than 20 years they had 7 kids, and now in 2-3 years they will have had 2 more. On one hand, Joe and Kendra's kids and her parents' kids will grow up like cousins and be great playmates. On the other hand though, her mom and dad can't just enjoy their new grandchild, because they're tending to a new little one of their own. It's not the same grandparent/grandchild dynamic.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree with John David. I think when your children start having children, it’s time for you to stop. It’s not a “cute” coincidence and just seems awkward to me. As one poster said, “ It changes the grandparent/grandchild dynamics.” Especially considering Mrs. Caldwell’s physical problems, she needs to focus on the children she has and especially enjoy and embrace.the grandchildren. She will be so blessed to have many to love.

    1. I agree, that a mom and daughter being pregnant at the same time changes the dynamic between grandparents/ grandchildren as well as uncles aunties/ nieces nephews

      Delete
    2. It's pretty pathetic that you find it awkward for two married women of child-bearing age having children at the same time "awkward" just because one happens to be the other one's mother. So if a woman who had a child at 20 then becomes a grandmother at 34 because of a teen pregnancy, she should not even consider having another child? She needs to fade away into only being a grandmother? Absurd.

      Delete
    3. She needs to do what she wants to do. Really? Who do you think you are to tell her how many children she should have? I don’t understand people! Why do you think your opinion should matter to people that don’t know you? You can love a lot of people at the same time... your own children and your grandchildren!

  36. When I was having babies we felt that we had to stop at two. My husband had a good job and insurance, eye and dental included. My husband would say we can't afford to cloth and educate anymore. Wish someone had told me they were cheaper by the dozen. These mega families prove it is possible.

  39. I have a question that I bet some of you can answer. I am 60 years old and live in the Southeast and have known lots of folks over the years (thousands of students as a public school teacher). I don't know anyone who has large families like this. Where I live, 5 children would be very unusual. My question is this: is the thinking behind having lots of children that each child will be a person who can spread the gospel of Christ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's likely part of it, but they are of the belief that using contraception is somehow defying God's will and that he should decide how many children they have.

      Delete
    2. Yes, that is why a lot of Christians decide to have many kids, so that the population of Christians will grow. To each their own, but I do hope these parents are able to provide for so many kids. I’ve heard of several big families that have financial troubles, even the Duggars lived in a tiny house before the show and didn’t seem to be doing well.

      Delete
    3. I don't know anyone these days who has more than 2 or 3 kids. My in-laws had 7 but where I came from (lots of Catholic families, pre-Pill) having 4 or more kids was possible. But the kids were never expected to spread a gospel and weren't born for that reason. One of the 7 converted to Judaism and several are atheist. It's the Quiverful movement that encourages those big fundamentalist Christian families. It does seem as if they're out to populate the world single-handedly, and of course all vote alike.

    4. We have 5. We're not Catholic nor Quiverfull. We just love kids.

    5. My own personal belief, and the belief of other members of my faith, is that having children is a commandment given by Heavenly Father. We believe that our spirits existed before we were born, and will still exist after we die. Every spirit needs an opportunity to come to earth. We don’t believe it is to make more babies that believe like we do. What you choose to believe is a personal choice. The decision to have another child is often prayed about. My parents have 7 children, but two of my siblings only have 1. Because we all live in an imperfect world with imperfect people (myself included), we will unfortunately always be judged harshly by someone one way or the other. It is important that we know the decisions we have made are the right ones for us... not the right ones for someone else.

    6. 7:52- It sounds like you believe in reincarnation, no?

      Delete
    7. @7:52 That doesn't make sense. If a spirit wants to come to Earth, if doesn't need a mega family to do that. Its chance will come sometime, somewhere, and it's not up to families to decide. And from what I understand, many spirits choose not to come here or to come back here because it's toil and trouble here versus paradise there.

I also don't understand how, with your belief system, why we should mourn miscarriages if the spirit comes anyway. Any kind of grief becomes self-centered if you think of it that way.

    8. I am from India and not aChristian, but am studying about it before I get married to a wonderful Christian man who brought me to the US. My question is: If a spirit comes here and is miscarried, does that still count as having come here? I have not heard about this “spirits waiting to come here” thing. Is this really true or is it made up and then preached to weak (I can’t think of the right word) people?

    9. To the woman from India, the best (and only) way to know truth is to study the Bible. There are religions that call themselves Christian, but they believe many things the Bible doesn't teach. There are many teachings that develop because people pick a few verse and take them out of context, and I believe this is one of them. When my husband was first learning about Christianity,b he was so overwhelmed v by the different doctrines that he decided he was going to start in Genesis and keep reading through the Bible and form his beliefs based only on that. The best advice I can give you is to study the Word of God and don't embrace any belief that can't be backed up biblically. :)

  40. Kendras mom looks so young! She’s probably healthy and in good shape to have babies. I think if the parents can provide for their children without government assistance, then who cares if they keep having children. Atleast they are raising their kids with values and morals to be productive people in this world. I’d be more concerned about single mothers that keep popping out babies and don’t have a father in their lives.

    1. How are the duggars and Caldwell’s productive? All they do is work for the family business and pop out babies who will do the same. It would be great if they raised some doctors, lawyers, engineers, dentists, dieticians etc. You know jobs that actually help people.

    2. You realize that a lot of women provide and a lot of men don’t? People don’t need to have a father in their lives to live a good life.

    3. Anom11:01- yes, I do know women provide, my step daughter is a single parent because the father who was her husband left and pays no child support, and she has a good job that provides. But it is important to have a father in your life.

    4. @11:01-a good father certainly helps for children to have a good life!

    5. No, but fathers and mothers bring different things to a child's life, the way God intended it to be.

    6. 10:19, Kendra's dad is a pastor. You know, a job that actually helps people. I believe he works another job too.

    7. “Productive” is relative. I agree that productive people help others. Raise a teacher, nurse, real police officer, doctor and etc. They have 19 kids at least one of them should have a real job

    8. Having a "real" job means dealing with people who don't share your religious beliefs, taking orders from them, and possibly having a female boss. The Duggars won't do that. Nor will they join the military and work for the country and the freedoms they claim to love so much. They leave that up to someone else to deal with (my family and many like mine).

    9. I'm not sure that "productive" is the right words here. So far their oldest daughter Kendra got married at 19 and is on her 3rd child, so like yeah, she is productive in producing babies. But she lives in a house that her husband's father gave them, and her husband is a used car dealer. It's all nice, but she could study to become professional, a doctor for example. Now their second daughter is marrying similar guy, and most probably in 2021 the Caldwells will have another grandbaby, after Lauren gets married. It's all not helping society to develop, just having babies.

    10. @4:26- do you happen to know what is other job he holds?

  41. Why does everyone think kendras mom is too old, people now wait till their 40’s to have kids now. I’m 41, and I know people my age who are just starting their families, and I have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren! I’m like yep, I’m done! I’m just enjoying the grand children when I want my baby fix! I like my freedom!

    1. And some people like me had no choice because of infertility issues ! We are the same age but our lives are probably vastly different since my kids are 2.5 years old and 10 months old. Quite fun to think about !

  43. If any of the Duggars would get ill with the virus, I don't think they'd share that news. They wouldn't want that negative publicity to possibly impact their image or their show. Kind of like if you had an important upcoming event and you needed public approval and you needed to look strong, you could take a 3-day weekend in a private location then appear to come back good as new, as if you'd beaten some sort of virus. Either way works.

    2. Interesting. We'll never have any proof that he really had it. Now he can go around saying how healthy he is and how he doesn't need to wear a mask because he's immune (even though there's no proof that everyone becomes immune for any useful length of time). Interesting!

    3. I take offense at the snide political comments being made here. I pray that everyone gets well, stays well, and continues to live a great life, no matter their beliefs or politics.

    4. 3:48 -- I agree with you. It's disheartening that people use any opportunity to bring divisive politics into the discussion. This forum used to be a nice break from the hard news.

  44. People are cracking me up with these comments about Mrs. Caldwell “only” having 9 kids. That’s 1 child every 2.5 years. Do the math.

  45. Guess we can stop speculating about Kendra's sister Lauren and a Duggar boy. She's now off the market and there's probably a disappointed Duggar boy somewhere.
