  2. Happy birthday to you both and I hope this time next year Jana will be as happy and in love with someone like John is now, sure she has the patience to wait but it can't be easy all the same,I should know how it feels I had to wait until thirty to find the right man to marry.

    1. I hope so too. Jana is such a sweet and amazing person, and an inspiration to people everywhere. And you're right, she is patient. God Bless her for not settling. I hope that when Mr. Right does come along, he is as amazing as she is. Jana definitely deserves the best!!

    2. Even if she has to wait till 40, or 50, it doesn't matter. IT is all worthwhile when the right man comes along. Wait till you meet the one God intends for you, Jana!

    3. Somehow I don't think it would've been such a big deal if it were John that remained single, instead of Jana. There's seems to be this stigma that a woman can't possibly be happy and fulfilled if they don't find a husband. If Jana is sticking around the family homestead because it's expected of her, that's just plain disturbing.

    4. 8:01, it’s has nothing to do with the fact that Jana is a woman and John is a man. It’s because Jana had continually said on the show for years that her biggest dream in life was to get married and be a mother, while for John it was one of those “if it happens for me it happens” type of thing. Until he met Abby I don’t think think he was very interested in getting married.

    5. @8:01 John could pursue his flying before marriage but Jana is only hanging around the house. How many siblings' houses can you decorate before you run out? Jana could have been working for the last decade. They hinted last fall that she & Jim Bob were off on a "business trip" but what has come of that? What has come of the old tattoo parlor bought in her name?

    6. 11:43- What follows are the ramblings of a senior citizen, so bear with
me, or not: Jana and her sisters have been taught that their biggest dream should be to get married and have children. It's a part of the IBLP ideology. It was the goal of their mother and options outside of that are not encouraged. This is a shame, really, that women in this culture are thought they must be dependent on a man indefinitely, either their father or a husband, and to have as many children as their bodies willl endure. That's why Jana still lives at home with her parents. I'm not saying this is the case with the Duggars, but in some fundamentalist groups, the oldest daughter is expected to remain unmarried and at home for a significant amount of time to help care for the younger siblings in a big family. In any event, it is my opinion that young women should understand that they should never expect to rely on a man to support them. Stuff happens that you cannot predict. Get some practical education, learn a trade, find a job you love and make a life for yourself. If marriage and family comes along, great. In the meantime, work on yourself and strive to be self-sufficient and independent. That's very hard to do if you never leave home. Even animals in the wild are pushed out of the nest at some point. I loved my parents dearly and they provided a good foundation, but I knew that I had much to learn that they simply couldn't teach me. I gained self-confidence that has beeen priceless for this painfully introverted and inhibited individual. And yes, I did get married and have a family- and have enjoyed the best of both worlds.

Some of the stuff you say in this comment is rude.
So what is wrong with her taking care of her siblings?
My older brother did it with me & my younger brother you are just plain rude to say that.

    8. I appreciated your “ramblings” very much, 8:22. :) You have a lot of wisdom. While I think it’s fine for a young woman to live at home indefinitely to save money for her future, I would expect my daughters to be learning a trade, taking college classes, working outside the home etc. to prepare for a life that may not contain marriage and family. And, if wise financial choices were made while single, what a blessing to give towards her married life when/if the time comes.
That being said, Jana has PLENTY of time for marriage and children.

    9. 8:22 -- That makes good sense. It feels so good to be on your own.

    10. im wondering if the building Jana supposedly bought is the building Amy has her clothing shop in?

    11. There's a big difference between wanting to take care of your siblings (or having to do it because of dire family circumstances) and having that role put on you because your able-bodied parents are too busy to parent all the children they had.

    12. Jana does not live with her parents in a 2-bedroom house with a small driveway and a small kitchen. She lives in a 7,000 square feet house, there are so many areas where she can spend time by herself. Also, nobody really thinks that maybe Jana genuinely loves her parents and enjoys living with them? She has a huge garden, and seemingly she enjoys this kind of work. She likes decorating. She does not have to work to make any income. Like, everything is provided for her. And who knows, maybe she does not want to make someone like Ben or Derick and live in a crammed 2-bedroom house with numerous kids? Like, Jana has freedom unlike her married sisters. Joy is the one who does not think much, she is in the middle of the pack, she really went on with the program - marry young and do what your husband wants. But Jana is more independent.

    13. Wow. So much negativity in some of these posts. My goodness!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with adult children who continue to live at home with their parents, even until old-age. In fact, it's rather nice. Perhaps it is not the norm in our modern-day American society, but it certainly is in other societies.

Personally, I LOVE how loving and close- knit the Duggars are. It's the main reason why I continue to watch them every week. In my humble opinion, they are exactly what a family should be. God Bless Them All!

I'm sorry, but some of you people really need to open your minds.

Sorry if I offended. God Bless.

    14. @6:00. I’d have gone bonkers living with my parents as an adult. Living under their rules indefinitely would not have been my idea of being independent.

      Delete
    15. @8:22 As another senior citizen, I think the same. I was brought up with the concept that I, as a adult, should be able to support myself, independently from any man or my parents. I brought up my children the same. And yes, I am married. My husband thinks the same.

I have relatives whose grown daughters stayed home and, for long periods of time, did not work. When the parents passed on, the daughters were at a loss to support themselves. It has taken years for them to "grow up".

I have no problems with adult children who still live with their parents. I know several families like that. But those adults are out in the work force, not staying home and letting their parents support them.

    16. anon@2:55, Jana may not have a husband to answer to, but she still is under her father's authority. That is not my idea of freedom or being independent.

  4. Happy Birthday!! Little baby Gracie came just in time for her Daddy's 30th birthday...that's perfect timing!!!! 2020 is sure starting off right for John!! Hopefully Jana has a great 2020 as well!

  5. How their lives have changed. John is living in his own home, happily married with a new baby. Jana is still at her parents house waiting for her handsome prince to show up.

    1. It’s hard to find single men her age that are in their church. Most men in their social circles marry between ages 18-23...
I wonder who Jim bob will find to marry Jana?

    2. @6:53. Exactly. Who's still single in their 30's that they know? Would the family accept a divorced older man?

    3. I wonder if JB wants his eldest daughter te be married... Maybe this situation is too convenient to change it? I hope one day Jana will find the courage to start a life of her own....hopefully in peace with her relatives...

    4. Since Jana has expressed the wish to get married, I hope Jinger and Jeremy meet someone who would be Jana’s type. Since Jeremy is a little older, he would be more likely to meet friends Jana’s age.

    5. I don't think she's waiting for a "handsome prince".

      Delete
    6. Maybe she isn't waiting for anyone. Maybe she doesn't want to marry. Her siblings have said she's had many suitors over the years, but it's clear she doesn't want any of those. She doesn't want a husband , and that's okay! S.

    7. @11:44-Jeremy is not older; he is younger than Jessa.

    8. 6:18 PM: Jeremy just turned 32 this September. Jinger, his wife, is 26. Jessa is 27.

    1. It's not a matter of wanting to. Sometimes there just isn't anyone available even if you want to date. If she has a Mr. Right, she may not have even met him yet.

    2. Because Jana hasn’t said herself that she DOES any type I get married arrows, he just hasn’t found found the right guy. Jana seems to be a more independently minded person, and it’s going to be hard to find a guy who appreciates that in their circle of men.

  14. Happy birthday JD and Jana!! I wish Jana wouldve felt comfortable enough moving out of the Duggar compound years ago and getting her own home and own career. I say this because people seem to " feel sorry" for her just because shes not married. Who cares, maybe shes perfectly content with that.

  15. Nice pictures. I think Abbie and Jana have similar features. That's probably what attracted John's attention to Abbie.

  16. I can’t help but wonder if the Duggar and Bates married children will have their own children stick to their strict courting/ dating rules? My guess is “No” or “Modified greatly“.

  19. Maybe Jana is enjoying this time in her life. As the eldest Duggar daughter, she may have had lots of homemaking responsibilities put upon her early in her life. Now, she gets a bit of a break. She can travel, tend to different projects, and still have the security of the Duggar home. She's probably invested or saved a good portion of her income, as her living expenses seem quite low. Jana is the one Duggar child whom I think inherited Jim Bob's astute business sense. I see lots of successes ahead for her, with or without marriage, although Jim Bob is probably
"auditioning" someone right now. I don't think Jim Bob wants any of his children unmarried.

  22. Jana doesn't need to get married, but of course that's fine if it happens. In the meantime, why can't she move out on her own? What is wrong with a single woman having her own life? She has been an adult for 12 years.

  23. Does anyone know what if the two of them celebrated their birthdays together? I know that they are close. Just wondering.

  25. Just because you cannot find someone listed as someone’s employee doesn’t mean they aren’t earning money. Jana does work. She goes about earning money quietly, discretely and respectfully. There’s no way she wants some gossip magazine or some left-wingnut reporter investigating who she works for.
