Tyler's 9th Birthday

Celebrating Tyler's 9th birthday at Cracker Barrel
(Jackson Duggar, Jim Bob Duggar, Michelle Duggar,
Grandma Duggar, Michelle's sister Carol, and Tyler)

For those who haven't yet been introduced to Tyler, we know you will enjoy this post. Tyler is a young, extended family member from Michelle's side who is living with the Duggars.

Tyler is just a few years younger than 12-year-old Jackson, and the two have become great friends. The Duggars shared a birthday message, signed "Aunt Michelle and Uncle Jim Bob":

Happy 9th Birthday Tyler! We are so glad to have you in our home and a part of our family! Your bright smile and sweet spirit brings much joy to us all!

Happy birthday, Tyler!

  5. Do they allow the young kids in the household to be online and see these birthday messages? Or are they posted for the public, to make us believe how wonderful everyone and everything is?

  13. Of course they won't address where Tyler's mom is now, or what's being done to get her able to take care of herself and her son again. For all appearances, they took custody of him and that's it. I thought the Duggars were all about rehabbing someone. Why couldn't they give Tyler's mother a house and a job? Everyone else in their family got one.

    1. None of us know the situation. There are many possibilities. Maybe the mom doesn't want help. Maybe this is the wishes of the mom for her son to stay with them. Who knows. But he looks happy and healthy and is taken care of that's what matters.

      Delete
    2. Maybe she can't have a house and a job right now, and it can be many reasons why, for example she is sick and in hospital.

      Delete
    3. Perhaps she has issues such as mental or health issues that make it impossible to care for her son? Maybe Tyler's mum is okay with Tyler being in her sister's care?

      Delete
    4. Maybe you should know all the facts before making a judgment against the Duggars, huh?

      Delete
    5. Tyler's mom gave guardianship to her mother. When her mom became unable due to health, she agreed to M & JB becoming his guardians. She as supervised visits; she and her mom have even gone on outings with the whole family. She has not been cut out. Giving her stuff, (house, car, job) won't cause her to make the healthy living choices necessary for her to care for a child. It would only enable her to increase negative behaviours. How about we all pray for her to make changes in her life, and for wisdom and help from the social services and justice system involved in her situation.

    6. Why in the world she they give a grown woman a car anf job! Christians are supposed to help people in need not promote laziness. The adult woman can take care of herself. Tyler is the one who needed help.

      Delete
    7. Giving people a house and a car and a job does NOT promote laziness or negative behaviors. Would you say that to a homeless veteran who was given those things in order to get back on his feet? No. They're not appropriate to say in this situation, either.

      Delete
    8. 1:47 PM - It's promoting laziness to help a family member in dire straights? I'm sure Jim Bob and Michelle know the situation best when they decide to help someone out.

  15. Happy Birthday, Tyler! I hope this year will be more glorifying to God than the last for you. :)

  16. It's sad the parents can never come up with anything genuine to say about their kids. Sweet spirit, servant's heart, love for the lord. Poor kids.

  17. Please oh please don't parade this young boy from a troubled home in front of the cameras. Use some good judgment while he is in your care.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They were merely saying happy birthday, as they do for other family members and friends. It's a bit of a stretch to say they are parading him in front of cameras. If they didn't wish him a happy birthday, I'm sure other critics would have unpleasant things to say about that too.

  18. Happy Birthday Tyler! May God grant you many blessings in your year ahead, and bless your sweet Uncle, Aunt and Cousins!
You're so blessed to be in such a wonderful home, with such wonderful people.

  19. *Cringing*- While I appreciate Michelle and Jim Bob stepping up to help their family members, it really should not be a public event. This is soo wrong on so many levels (beginning with Biblically). The whole world should not know what Michelle and Jim Bob are doing, so says Jesus in Matthew). Yes, they should be supporting Tyler and their family- making him feel welcome, loved and accepted, and celebrating his birthday...just not on camera. Tyler's life and family situation are not a photo op or a story line. This seems like a lack of discernment and wisdom-deeply disappointed. We don't need to announce Tyler's situation to everyone and he's too young to understand that his being "featured" is actually an invasion of his privacy (telling the whole his personal business). Being on TV sounds great to a guy his age, but he lacks the emotional and psychological maturity to comprehend the long-term consequences.

    1. They didn't put him on the show or anything, just said it's his birthday. They do the same with other family members as well. This is a good friend of the Duggars blog, not a tv show.

      Delete
    2. They are treating him just like any of their own children which is the best thing. This family is in the public eye and this is part of their life. He would know if they were treating him differently and not doing the same birthday messages for him as the others and how would that make him feel? I don't think he would want to be treated differently or be made to feel like he has had a rough life and needs special treatment. Let them as the custodial parents make those judgements.

    3. I can see both sides of this -- both the original poster and the comments. I would probably want to err on the side of his privacy, though.

    4. I agree with Anon, Feb 11 @ 8:16 pm

    5. If they are treating him like one of their own children then how come they didn't take him to the Market Place Grill??

    6. Maybe he doesn't like Market Place Grill

    7. Maybe HIS favorite restaurant is the Cracker Barrel.

    8. Lol..I can't imagine how this could possibly offend you...taking a 9 year old boy who you have custody over to lunch for his birthday and taking a photo..like you do with all of your other children! There are so many issues in this world and this isn't one of them!

      Delete
    9. Maybe he didn't want to go to the Market Place Grill??

  26. I'm so glad grandma Carol got to be part of this! I hope her health is improving, or at least manageable. I think this is the perfect balance of, showing us how well he fits their family, and yet not putting him on the show. God will guide them one step at a time. Maybe one day his mom will be able to care for him again, but my hope and prayer is that his time with his aunt and uncle gives him a good spiritual foundation. Thanks for sharing this with us.

    1. That's not grandma carol if you read it is Michelle sister. Michelle mother died years ago.

    2. Grandma Carol = Tyler's grandma, who is Michelle's sister, not her mother. Tyler's mom is Michelle's niece, Tyler's grandma is Michelle's sister.

    3. Tyler mom is Sonja not Carol. They would have toled you if carol was is mother.

    4. Actually, Tyler's mom isn't named Sonja. It's Rachel!

  27. sorry this is 'off topic' but when you & rachel update the header to include the new 'grand-duggars', could you also update the pictures of the younger kids, like jason to josie, as well as the other grand-duggars. they are growing up so quickly!
