Duggars Appear on PEOPLE Magazine

If you visit your local grocery store this week, you might notice this week's cover of PEOPLE Magazine: 'The Duggars Now: Life After Scandal.' Out of curiosity, you might grab a copy and thumb through it as you wait your turn in the checkout line, but you will quickly discover that the article is nothing like the magazine's past stories featuring the Duggar family.

This particular article contains no new quotes from either Jim Bob or Michelle Duggar, nor from any of their 19 children, three children-in-law, or five grandchildren.

Bride-to-be cousin Amy Duggar contributed a few quotes to the article, as did close family-friend Michaela Bates Keilen before her wedding on August 15th. Both ladies expressed their support for the Duggars.

The article also contains multiple quotes from "family insiders," although without knowing the identities of those individuals, it is difficult to determine the validity of their comments.

In the past, PEOPLE Magazine has done a commendable job presenting the Duggars' biggest milestones in an unbiased light, and it would be wonderful to see this publication continue to do so, even while the rest of the media world tears the family apart.

  1. I love the Duggar family. It's so rare to see any true Bible-believing Christian family. It's terrible that this is happening, and that people out there are going to write-off their good testimony and point to this one terrible incident. It's not fair to those of the family who have been living how God wants them to. But Josh needs to realize that all this bad press and public humiliation is part of the punishment God is giving him. I'm not saying the false stories should be written - because they shouldn't. But it's something Josh has to endure because of what he did. Praying for the whole family, but I think mostly for Anna.

  2. Sadie Robertson had a few good things to say about the Duggars. So many good families go through hard times like this but they are mostly able to avoid the entire world knowing about it and chiming in with sickening opinions and comments. Josh is now a man and totally responsible for himself! I cannot understand why people have the nerve to harass your whole family, even the children. Oh, well, the end is near. I mean, how much longer can Heavenly Father tolerate abortion and selling of baby body parts. I love your family. Hang in there!

  4. I remain a Duggar family supporter. I love this family. Josh needs our prayers. They need to be left alone and people need to quit tearing them apart. They are a Christian family. Bad things happen to Christian families. It is how we deal with them that shows our values and trust in God. We depend on God for His guidance. Are Christians perfect? No not hardly. We are not perfect, that is why we are Christians, is because we need our Savior. My prayers go with yall. I do still love you all and would watch you if you were on TV. May God bless.

  5. I read the article in the dentist's office. I thought there were some innuendos. For example, I don't think the revelations about Josh when he was 15 influenced Jill and Derek's decision to do their mission work at this particular time. It wasn't the best article People has written. I would love, eventually, to see a fair, honest article about how the Duggars are handling this whole situation. I think it would help so many people struggling with their own issues.

  6. What if People magazine did not feel the entire Duggar clan deserved a positive review at this point?

  9. I won't be grabbing a copy and thumbing through it. If I want to know what's happening in your family that you want to share, I come here. There are many areas in which we would probably disagree, but fairness isn't one of them. This family has been open and honest....even when it's painful. I respect that. Maybe someone can explain to this reality TV enjoyer.....how come the shows are cancelled when they become "too real"??? Every family has ups and downs and things that they hope/wish can be kept private. Just know that this respectful fan is praying for you and is on your side. Blessings to you all <3

  10. People just need to leave them alone and quit printing and spreading lies and gossip! Josh has to face his demons and get rite with God so all of this will go away!!

  11. While Im deeply disappointed in Joshs behavior I do not feel it means anything concerning the rest of the family. Please be strong and keep searching Gods word for truth and strength.Even king David did some pretty bad things. I hope Anna does not forgive too quickly because a lie concerning fidelity can relate to your very wellbeing as a wife. Many men stray but they also pay the cost of STDs.Its so rampant. I see no posted items are being put up .Thats fine . This is really just for Anna to consider. Get tested.Get him tested.

  12. Its also a fact that as mothers we can try very hard and do everything and the world can still snatch up our kids.I think you have really tried hard and done the best that you could to raise these kids but not all are going to do as you would want them to. The bible talks about Jesus separating families even . Its easy to see how sin will do this.

  13. I'll be honest, I picked it up and quickly skimmed through it. I didn't like what I read, I didn't appreciate what they were implying. I don't like the parts (for any story) when they just say family insiders, or someone close to the family, that just makes me think that either the magazine/writer is just making it up or believing the lies coming from someone claiming to know this family. I know that I'll never pick up another of theirs. The media needs to leave this family alone and let them heal.

  14. I've always trusted People magazine to print the facts about any situation. I hope they continue to do so. Thank you for the "warning". My heart goes out to the whole Duggar family. None of us are without sin and we should NOT be quick to judge others. I miss the show and watching the family grow but am thankful for this blog where we can at least keep up with what is going on.

  15. Read the article wasn't impressed with it, It didn't say anything we don't already know really - I really hope People keeps up with the family and stays honest but you never know. I fully support The Duggar Family with my thoughts and prayers.

  17. Praying for you all. We humans are all so broken, and only the love of Christ can heal us. When we don't lose faith, and remain steadfast in Christ, the darkest valley and the deepest pit of grief can be the very avenue God later uses to minister into the broken hearts and hidden shame of others. Remember Peter, who was able to walk on water, so long as he kept his gaze upon Jesus. He didn't notice the waves or wind, until he looked away from Him, then he began to sink. Then, he refocused his attention back to Jesus, called for help and Jesus took him by the hand and helped him up! I believe this is one of the best analogies of what He does for us all, even now. Focus your gaze upon Jesus, and not the storm, and God will carry you all through!

  18. The media is not to blame, it is a double edged sword. When there were fairy tale romances and all ,the media reported that. Now when the truth of the marital infidelity is exposed, the media reports that. If the details and facts are going to tear the family apart when they come out I am not surprised, it has already started and it has had a bad effect on me, I am less interested in the family than ever because of what I have learned last night. I just want some peace of mind and to not look anymore at this smut.

  19. Our God is still in control and knows what the future holds as He holds us in the palms of His hands. Keep trusting Him no matter what all the extended Duggar family. I miss watching you on the TLC channel as even reruns were enjoyable watching how the children aged and the joys you experienced and the strength you drew on to face mountains such as when Josie was born. And you will get through this as well because our God is faithful. Just ask and He will supply. Be blest one and all from Miss Anne

  21. Lily and Ellie, I have followed your blog for a while now but am a bit put off and surprised that you always seem to defend everything that happens in this family. I understand that you have a special connection to the Duggars but sometimes the facts need to be seen for what they are. Instead of blaming the person at fault for all this hoopla, you blame the media. This is not about the media tearing this family apart, it is about a person's bad choices and bad decisions that is tearing this family apart. The media reports the good as well as the bad. Sometimes we think we know people but they turn out to be different than what we expect them to be but we shouldn't be surprised. We all sin differently. We are all human and fall short of being anywhere near perfect.

    1. This is about the most accurate - tactful bit of opinion I've seen written about the Duggar family thus far. You are so spot on. We all SIN differently and NONE of us deserve to be shunned, but at the same time, you do the crime, then you do the time, whether it be through tabloids if you sought to be in the public eye 24/7 or rather on a smaller scale. The Bible warns us all to be careful if you think you stand, lest you fall. Also, whatever measure you judge, that same judgement will meet YOU!

  22. Really?
I personally think EVERYONE should leave the Duggars alone!
Only Heavenly Father can judge them.
Every family goes through rough milestones.
Keep yalls head up Duggars. I still think you are all amazing.😘

  24. Love the Duggars and will stand by them. Their family problems ate personal and should remain so. How many politicians in DC are pure? None. No one is perfect and we deal with these imperfections the best way we can. The media today is all trash journalism. Half made up and the rest exaggerated to the point where it tears families apart. They don't care who they hurt, as long as they make a buck whether true or not.

  25. You don't kick a person when he or she is down. That's when they need us even more to give them help and support.

  26. The issue I have with the article is all the "unnamed sources." It makes me wonder who is talking and how credible are they if they are unwilling to give their name. I have appreciated how the Duggars have handled it thus far. They didn't condone what Josh did, but offered their love and support for their family, which is what all good parents should do. I pray for the family as they continue to have their faith tested. I also feel for the littlest ones. I can't imagine having to explain what is going on to little ones.

  28. As a long-time fan of the Duggars I'm glad the show isn't on the air anymore. It used to be one of the only shows that I would not only look forward to but allow the entire family to watch. But I just can't look at the Duggars the same anymore. Josh's actions have unfortunately made me look at this entire family differently and that's tremendously sad.

  29. Following this story on the computer led me to some wrong viewing and I feel bad and sad about what I saw. I prayed for forgiveness and do not want to follow this story so closely anymore, God help me to keep my eyes on the Lord Jesus and where he is leading.

  30. I have loved watching the family grow! As has my 12 year old daughter. And she loves to grab these magazines as we are going through the line at the grocery store. With a look mom look what it says. My response to her. It is only an opinion. We may not know the truth but we sure don't need to hear someone's opinion. I can pray for your family without knowing what everyone else's opinions are. And I continue to pray for your family! Love you all! Thanks for being human!!

That's right out of the Bible, they may want to be commendable but what else can PEOPLE do?

  32. Josh isn't the only kid, there are 18 others I would like to hear about. 90% of the time lately it seems to be about only 3 of the kids: Josh, Jill and Jessa. I love reading about Jill and Jessa, but I'd like to hear what the other children are up to. As a fan, and one that has seen all their shows and specials, and even took a photo with the mom and dad when they visited the local seminary, I'd like to see the following updates:
What is John David up to? Is he still working as a constable? Does he still have a wrecker business? Is Jana now a full-fledged doula, or still studying? Is Jinger studying anything, or still handing out tracts? I love Jinger's clothing style the best. What about Joe? Is he still at Crown College? What is his major? Who is he staying with? Is Josiah going to be taking college also? Is Joy in 12th grade or did she graduate already? What are her higher learning goals?

    1. I also would like to hear about the rest of the family. Everyone makes bad choices, it doesn't mean that their a bad person and that should not be reflected on the rest of the family. The rest of the family should not be have to pay for one members bad actions. I would love to see the rest of the family on TV again, maybe a different station. TLC isn't the only network out there. I really miss all of the Duggars.

  35. When people hear the word "Christian" they automatically think "perfect". So when people say they are Christian they automatically think we are claiming we are perfect but that couldn't be further from the truth Christians are just sinners saved by the grace of God. For all, including Christians, have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Do Christians have affairs on their spouses? Sadly yes. Does that make it right? Absolutely not!!!! Josh has problems that he needs to correct and consequences that he needs to face for sure. But God also commands us NOT TO JUDGE. It is only our place to forgive and allow God to take His rightful place as judge. Always remember if not for the grace of God that could be you because we are ALL SINNERS.

  36. Precious Blogger -I like your website and how you've handled the latest news but with one exception. You said the media is tearing the family apart. No. Josh Duggar is tearing his entire family apart. His actions are beyond anything media could do. But our God. He is revealing the hearts of man. May we be found faithful. Jennifer

  37. As a Born Again Christian my heart breaks for Josh and Anna. I don't understand why he didn't get the real help he needed as a youth? I also feel that your family is making childbearing a competition and that little time is given to getting to know one another as a married couple before becoming a family, which is what Bob and Michelle did before starting their family. I just think the reason why things sometimes go South is because the focus gets off of God and onto more worldly things like the show on TLC. I have just noticed so many families struggle and fail because of reality t.v. and maybe Josh would have been more comfortable confessing his sins if the family didn't seem to be so perfect, which no one ever has been on this Earth except Jesus.

  39. Aside from all the questions that have already been asked, and all the opinions that have been stated....my question wanders far from this and may seem irrelevant right now in light of the issues the family is facing. I have always wondered, Jim Bob and Michelle, with all the land you have, why haven't you ever planted a garden? Serving the Lord by serving others, and with all the little hands you have to help - plus, a way to give back the seeds, fruits, and nourishment of your labor to those who have stood by you for so many years and offered countless blessings and help to you and your family. Why haven't you ever done this?

Please don't delete this message. It's a question asked in good faith from a grandma who has followed your show for so many years.

  40. Michelle and Jim Bob,
My family is going through a similar situation. I can only pray the outcomes are what God wills them to be. You are always in my prayers. I understand the heart ache and I'm glad you aren't on the air during this time, or anymore. It would be an added stress.
As for the media, no one should listen to them. There should only be room in our hearts for one God. The real true hope that we all need. I ask that he lays your hands on you and your family and that you are blessed. Be safe and know that you are in His hands <3

  44. Lily and Ellie are entitled to put anything in their blog that they wish. A blog is the reflections of or about the people involved. I haven't seen a blog yet that didn't have a personal slant to it. It's not scientific research where all issues have to be raised. It's personal with all the biases therein.

  46. I agree # 33 and 34 and others. It occured to me as I was praying for the Duggaers this morning, that many are so quick to point out the Duggar parents faults in raising their children, as I myself have also done in the past year or so. But in truth, the Duggars have also done a lot of good things in their parenting. We are so quick to condemn, and so slow to give praise where praise is due.
So Jim bob and Michele, keep on keeping on, you have helped developed many good traits and qualities in your children. We all live and learn and the and " race" isn't over for you, your children, including Josh and his family. ((( ))) hugs and prayers for Anna and family.

  48. What would of happened if the Ashley Madison account did not get hacked and names of those who signed up were not revealed? Josh came out only because he was caught....he had affairs with paid women for services rendered...How long would of that continued, please ask yourself that question. Josh Duggar is going to be lucky if he can get a job at McDonalds .And, if I was his Wife with his history, I would be very leary leaving my children with him alone.
