Josh Duggar Supports Traditional Marriage

In the following YouTube video, Josh Duggar, Executive Director of Family Research Council Action in Washington D.C., addresses religious freedom implications related to the Virginia Constitutional Marriage Amendment.

"Attorney General Mark Herring swore to uphold the Constitution, and he has not done that," Josh tells the crowed gathered outside the Federal Courthouse in Norfolk, Virginia, on Tuesday. "And we will hold him to task."

  1. as a christan we need to take a stand on this. we also need to get on our knees and pray for our nation so we can have a one man and one women marriage. and pray for our leaders. we need a spritiual rivial in our nation.

  2. That was a very good speech. I agree that traditional marriage should stay. Remember,In the end, it is God who matters most and Christians need to stay strong for him and hold up his word with no shame. So, BRAVO for that Josh. Keep doing what's right in Gods word.

  4. Josh says it so well, '...we will hold him accountable for stepping aside from his duties'. Thank-you for being so courageous to speak up in response to authorities abusing their power over the people they are there to serve.

  6. I don't want to start an argument, because i know that a lot of people in here are Christian, but isen't freedom the right to choose whatever you want? And i become so sad when i here about that a marriage of a man and a women is the only right thing, isen't all love beautiful?

  7. As Josh says United State of America is a country built on freedom so why people can't have the same freedom to marry who they want to? I really love the Duggar family but here i don't agree! Love is not religious!
    A french fan.

  8. Well said and Well done!!! Someone needs to speak up, so be thankful it is someone like Josh who has a great foundation and a love for the Lord..

    God Bless

  9. As a Christian I can´t understand that Josh is asking for religious freedom on the one side and then is working to deny other people to live their live as they want to. It´s not his place to judge and not his place to force his believes on other peoples lives.

  10. Not everyone in this country is a Christian, so your biblical argument is null and void. If YOU don't believe in gay marriage, marry someone of the opposite sex.

  11. Anonymous is right on point with the fact none of us know what our children will grow to be. No matter how strong a Christian upbringing they are raised. So, be careful Josh (and family) what you say; one day a sibling or child of your own may be gay or lesbian and become a parent and your words could come back to hurt someone you love. Also, I believe I read one of his maternal aunts is a lesbian. I would like our government to refer to a union that is not between a man and a woman to be a" civil union", not as marriage (save that term for a union between a man and a woman) Allow equal rights for all unions.

  15. A good Christian would not judge and accept everyone for who they are. Remember that. No one should make decisions for them. No one can change who they are. What's "traditional"? If what you believe isn't "traditional", has existed since the beginning of time. This comes a Catholic, who took a course in Theology knowing what's real and what's not.

  16. This makes me sad. I love watching your family and your show, and I thought that you were more open-minded and accepting of people. A family should consist of two people who love each other, regardless of their gender.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Perfectly put. As Christians we need to stand up for this more then ever!! :)

  18. Very good speech, i agree with Josh.

  19. By allowing same sex marriage, no one is taking away from "traditional" marriage. If you want a traditional marriage, then have one and get out of other people's business.

  20. I'm pretty sure religious freedom doesn't only apply to Christians.

  21. I adore the Duggar Family, but this crosses the line. Who are you to deny someone to marry? I can't wrap my head around the fact that someone thinks he or she is so powerfull you can impose boundaries on someone elses love.
That being I said, I gain a lot of confidence in the world and the christian community by people in these comments who criticize this particular decision of Josh.

  22. traditional - existing in or as part of a tradition; long-established marriage - the formal union of a man and a woman, typically recognized by law, by which they become husband and wife.
"And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." Genesis 1:22-24

  23. The Bible is CLEAR on the issue of gay marriages. Our country was started by Godly men who believed God's Word. Yes, God loves ALL sinners but he HATES our sin. It is shocking and appalling that anyone would criticize the Duggars for taking a Christian stand on marriage. God created man and woman to be fruitful and multiply -- NOT two men or two women. Homosexuality is a perversion - remember the Somdom and Gomorrah

  24. Jesus said to love everyone like you would love yourself. That doesn't exclude the LGTBQ community. Why are they so concerned with keeping marriage between a man and a woman if they are already married? Just to point something out - 60 years ago people rallied like this against African American rights and now look at how ridiculous they look in the eyes of the modern world. This is a useless fight because even they know that they are going to lose

    ReplyDelete
  25. Even Pope Francis said that we shouldn't judge gays because God created them like that. Fundamentalists are so scared of losing their religion that they are making ridiculous speeches and arguments such as these. They don't realize that if they don't medernize their religion it will be lost
"Love one another as I have loves you"

  29. I really struggle with supporting the Duggar family by watching their show when I hear them stand up for issues such as this. I love a lot of things about their family but feel like I am perpetuating this horrible discrimination by supporting their show.

  30. Keep fighting the good fight Josh & Anna. I know it isn't easy but our political arena craves the voice of Truth. Praying for your continued guidance of scripture to lead in love and truth. May more come to know the saving powers of Jesus through your work in his kingdom.

  32. It is true that not everyone is a Christian but the Jewish faith also believes the same

    ReplyDelete
  33. I definitely disagree with the Duggars on this issue. I thought that the Bible said to love your neighbors as you would want to be loved yourself. Does that not include your gay and lesbian neighbors? Just something to think about.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The Jewish, what about all the other religions out there? I'm sad to hear Josh support this, he who comes from at family with so much love.

  35. There are many who have betrayed the Constitution; this is one more example. God bless you Josh, for taking a hard stand. It's what the Bible says, not what humans want.

  36. Noomi said it best! Love is love, love thy neighbor and love thyself. Our country was built on freedom of choice for all, not based upon the Bible's teachings.

  38. We have a separation of church and state. The states may not impose a religion on us, so why should they be able to impose a religious belief system in the form of laws on us? Religion is a personal journey. When I pass from this world, I will come face to face with my creator, not anybody else. If someone wants to enter into a "nontraditional" marriage, why should anybody else care? It's not their journey. I think people should pay more attention to living their own lives and less to what they think everybody else is doing "wrong." Additionally, all these politicians put so much effort into these hot-button topics. We have families in this country that don't have enough to eat, children living on the street. Can you imagine the good they could do if they rerouted even half of that effort to real issues? Now THAT would be Christian-like.

  39. Loving others is not the same as agreeing with their choices. I can love my neighbor, but I don't always agree with what they do.

  40. who are you to tell people to live there life god loves everyone

    ReplyDelete
  41. Where exactly in the constitution does it say that marriage is between a man and woman? Last time I checked the constitution had nothing to do with marriage. Separation of church and state should be upheld. I love the Duggars but I completely disagree with their views. I'm a proud ally of the LGBTQ community.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I support the Duggar families choice to have as many children as they want simply because it their choice to live their lives how they see fit in the good old USA. I'd appreciate it if Josh would give my community the same respect. If. Marriage is between one man and one woman no exceptions please explain why God made Hermaphrodites !!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Josh is right, those who disagree need to pick up a BIBLE and READ. God does loves all even when we choose wrong. That's why Jesus died for us. Christians want to follow His law. If someone makes a bad decision that's against God, his followers cannot condone that behavior. Comparing racism to this subject makes no sense. The bible does not support racism.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Nice job Josh! God loves all but he hates sin, which is why he died for us. We owe it to Him to follow his Word in the Bible. Beware of false churches and follow His true doctrine. I'm so thankful for the Duggars, God bless this family as their ministry has reached so many people to receive the Lord.

  45. what most people look over is the fact that the supreme court said that marriage just between one man and one women was unconstitutional. that is why they demolished the marriage act that Clinton put up. so just because the way someone in politics is choosing to go isn't the way that you want them to doesn't mean that they are wrong. in this situation they are only going by what the supreme court says is constitutional or not.

    ReplyDelete
  46. These people will never deal with the fact that the world has moved on. Their antiquated nonsensical views have no place in the twenty first century. A 'traditional family' does not mean a happy one. I know that first hand.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Josh was right with his speech. Everyone keeps saying that is you were a good Christian than you would no judge and that they should be able to marry whoever they wanted. Well if you are a Christian than first you would not disagree with him. The bible does not teach us about Adam and Adam or Eve and Eve being together. It is Adam and Eve. Got did not make people to fit with the same sex. We were made it be with the opposite. God does love everyone, but going against God's teaching is not the way to go. I love this show and this family. I wish that there were more families out there that were proud of their beliefs in God and were being true Christians by sharing it with the world. God said to go out and make disciples and this family is truly doing so.

  49. I don't agree with having 19 children but I respect you all. Are you going to disown one of your kids if they turn out gay?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I find it amusing (as well as hypocritical) every time I read or listen to religious extremists like the Duggers praise the beauty of freedom as they diligently work to restrict that of anyone who doesn't support their cult-like beliefs.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Love the Duggars, but I don't agree with this at all. Only because I find it purely hypocritical to single out one group of people. I'll understand more when I see them rallying against divorce- which is really damaging our country and is really frowned upon in the Bible.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ugh. This makes me mad. How hypocritical for him to spout on and on and on about "children being a blessing from God" and then shun homosexuality or same sex marriage? Whatif your "blessings" decided to identify as gay or lesbian or bi-sexual or transgendered? Are they suddenly no longer blessed?
I am sure he is a nice guy and good father (so long as his kids don't end up gay?!), but he needs lessons in critical thinking and logic. If he wants to preach, keep it in the faith, NOT in politics. Last time I checked, the US wasn't a Theocracy.

  53. sad that a family that gets so much publicity and upholds such high moral standards can simultaneously support inequality towards God's fellow children aka gays...

    ReplyDelete
  54. Any loving and committed couple regardless of gender should have the same rights to marriage.

    ReplyDelete
  55. So sad! While I think this family is beautiful in its own way, I do not nor ever will condone their belief system. The attrocities that have been committed in the name of various organized religions over the centuries don't seem to have taught a lot of you anything! I see various comments on here and have a few points to make:

    1) The bible was written by men not God, it was written to bring about law and order in a time when there was none.

    2) Making abortion illegal again will just mean more deaths for those that choose the back alley method and won't save children from abuse or poverty that is mainstream in our society today. While I don't believe it is a form of birth control I don't believe ANY woman or girl should be forced to give birth because they were raped and/or suffered from incest (which is very common in the kind of lifestyle that others with the same beliefs the Duggar's live).

    3) Statistics show that it very possible that one or more of the Duggar children will be gay and this is not a lifestyle choice but the way they were born. So are those children just discarded from the family? Or do they have to live a life of misery pretending to be someone they are not? The belief in God and the bible while good meaning for most also allows people to to discount the parts that they wish and only accept and spout the parts they want to believe ex. Man should not lay with man seems acceptable to most of you but judge not lest ye be judged and no one speaks for God seem to be easily thrown out the door when convenient. Isn't that hypocritical?

    4) And finally God does not make mistakes according to your religious beliefs and we are all his children so that means LBGT people are also his children and not a mistake.

I choose to live spiritualy instead of religiously which means I don't want to hurt anyone else and believe all people should live by what is right and punish what is wrong and what is wrong is violence, rape and anyone who hurts children. I don't need a man telling me what I should do, say or that I need to pay for prayer services. God is in nature and doesn't need a church to be prayed to!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Stop kidding yourself about being tolerant and thus a good Christian. You are picking what you choose to pick in the Bible. You are not a Christian if you do not stand for the beliefs of Christ. Perversion is wrong. I don't care how many of you post here. It will ALWAYS be wrong. It's trendy now. But, that is all it is. The media is pushing it and kids are thinking it is cool. Thanks to you 'good' Christians, kids are trying it out. God expects us to stand strong for children. I, for one, intend to.

    1. Being homosexual is not perverted. Lots of straight men and women sexually assault and harass children. That's perverted. Loving and respecting another person isn't.

      Delete
  57. I always loved the Duggar family and I respect their right to speak up for their beliefs. but I cant help but wonder if one of their children turned out to be gay (and with 19 kids the odds seem pretty likely that one could be) how they would treat that child. My cousin has a daughter who told him she was gay and he was shocked at first but soon came to realize that she was still the same person he loved from the first time he held her in his arms and though it's not what he would have wished for her, he is now a strong supporter of her right to be who she is and love who she chooses. And yes he is a Christian.

    ReplyDelete
  58. But WHY is homosexuality immoral? (And if your answer is that the Bible says so, WHY?)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I am for what God says are proper relationships. I am not for same sex marriage. I have successfully raised 1 daughter to believe God's word. And I am raising my other the same. I stand with Josh Duggar. I teach my kids to show respect to all but know God's word is primary. Traditional marriage should be saved. I am in no way interested in opinions about how I raise my kids. And what others choose to think about me is of no importance. God now and forever.

  60. Wow. So great to see that their mother teaches them "tolerance" and to "love their neighbors!"
