Duggar Fun Facts: Gifts for 19

Christmas is over, but it's never too early to start brainstorming gift ideas for next year. Where do Jim Bob and Michelle hide presents for their kids and grand-kids?

"In the outbuilding," Jim Bob tells Focus on the Family, "although the older ones have definitely figured that out by now."

In addition to a gift from the sibling who drew their name at Thanksgiving, each of the kids receives presents from Mom and Dad. Every year, Michelle prepares 19 gift bags filled with...snack food! Containers of Pringles chips, packages of beef jerky, and jars of pickles. (The Duggars also make homemade pickles. Click here to see the recipe.)

"Almost all of us like pickles, but each ones likes a different kind," says Michelle. "Same with the Pringles and the beef jerky. Christmas is the one time of year when every child gets their favorite flavor of each treat."

  1. I've been watching some videos of the duggars on YouTube, and keep seeing a Pole or wire or something on the right side of their roof i was just wondering if anyone knew what that was? Thanks.

  2. Can we have a discussion on how Michelle is dealing w being at the end of her child bearing yrs? I believe this is hard for women who have enjoyed being pregnant and having children for some many yrs.

  4. "Saint Nick" gives our family favorite treats: chocolate, a 1 lb. bag of beef jerky, and lots of chewing gum. Not pickles, though :)

  5. It's easy to be able to afford gifts for that many people when you are collecting a paycheck for selling your private life to a tv show. In an older episode it showed them going to a thrift store to let the kids pick out gifts for the sibling they were shopping for. I would bet that they now shop at regular retail stores and don't shop buy now and save the difference so much anymore.

  6. Agree w hello. Most of the time I like the older shows better. It doesn't show them traveling to Japan, China or any other countries that most ppl can't afford. It makes them seem more normal. Money has changed their life. I'm happy for them but it makes them seem out of the norm, like tv stars. A lot of their fans are like them in the fact that they believe children are a blessing and cannot afford trips to other countries so.....its just hard to fit it all together.

  8. I agree..they pay for all of this by the collecting from the show.they get paid a lot of money plus the commercial buildings plus Josh car lot and whatever tower they own.when they do travel they don't pay for they own airfare can u imagine going to Japan with paying for it yourself with 19 folks.?they do love they're kids and bringing them up the way we all should in this crazy world but don't think for a sec to yourself they are broke plus all the appearances they do too is a extra cash payday I'm sure

  9. I am happy for the Duggars being blessed. I see nothing wrong with them enjoying extra money. They have shown that they have wisdom to handle money. They lived within their means when they had less and they live within their current means. They have a close knit family and enjoy people much more than things. If they get to travel to China, Hawaii, Italy or wherever, I'm happy for them. Let TLC us their money for a family who loves God and lives a godly life on screen and off.

  10. They have stated numerous times that this is a ministry to them. They use the media as a tool to spread God's love and the message of our Savior, Jesus Christ, around the world. You are witnesses to how the Lord will bless you as you follow Him and His plan for your life. God will prosper His children as they seek Him and His will. Seek God's will for your life and you will be able to relate with the Duggars prosperity... in more ways than one. God bless you all!

  12. I would be more worried if the Duggars were exactly the same as they were ten years ago. Everybody changes over time. What would concern me is if the kind of people they were changed. They still help others and do the kinds of things they used to do, they just wear more modern clothes and might go to an amusement park more often. They earn every penny paid to them on TLC and can do with it what they choose. I am thankful for their program because it is family friendly

  13. Great comment, Lucy! And they don't just waste their trips - they have purposes of blessing others - and as we have seen, they do!

  14. They are also teaching their children to be wise with money. This family is using their blessing of the procedes from this show to teach their children and to bless others. I've worked in the school system, and have worked with rich and poor families. What I learned is that the money spent on children is a temporary joy. What creates sustainable joy is the treatment, time, and lessons you teach your children. The Duggars are a true inspiration.
