Date Set for TLC Documentary

The day TLC announced that 19 Kids and Counting was officially canceled, the network also revealed its plan to air a commercial-free, one-hour documentary on child sexual abuse. The Duggars shared that they would work closely with TLC in the production of the show.

The documentary, Breaking the Silence, will air Sunday, August 30th, at 10pm ET/9pm CT and will feature Jill Duggar Dillard and Jessa Duggar Seewald, among other individuals.

Erin Merryn, a vicim of child sexual abuse who is now a traveling speaker on the topic, will also be part of the special. Before the news of the Duggars' "scandal" broke in May, Jim Bob and Michelle had met Erin at an event in Arkansas and invited her into their home to talk with a handful of their kids about sexual abuse and the importance of speaking up. In June, TLC invited Erin to appear in the documentary.

  1. So glad to hear of this special. In spite of how much people seem to idolize the Duggars, they are a real family with real problems. What happened was sexual abuse. I pray for the victims and hope this will help with the healing process. May God bless them and grant peace in their lives.

  2. Due to the content of the special, I'm not sure my family will be watching this program but I do understand the need for it. I think the problem that many fans such as myself have of this special is that when the accusations against Josh came out, everyone said that it was not abuse and that it was only childhood curiosity and that it was no big deal. Now the girls are taking part in this special about victims of child abuse. I'm very confused as to the message here and I don't think I'm alone.

  5. I seriously don't think a one hour TLC documentary about the Duggar scandal/child sexual abuse is necessary. Enough was said about what happened from the media, and the Duggars...I do NOT condone this behavior at all, but feel TLC needs to put the Duggars show 19 Kids and counting back on the air. Our country desperately needs their positive, godly examples.

    1. Still feel that way now, in light of the most recent news?

    2. Just because josh has problems doesn't mean the family as a whole is morally corrupt.

    4. Many victims of child sexual abuse could benefit from this documentary. I know I'll be watching. The scandal has taken its toll...child sexual abuse takes its toll....this is necessary.

  7. I believe The Lord is telling your family that a new season of life has arrived and that the season of being on television is over. I know you all are hard-working and frugal people and have many skills and avenues to earn an honest living and that you all will be just fine. I think the show on child abuse is positive but I don't know why you would continue to trust the public with your private lives seeing as what happened and how it could potentially hurt the kids even more. I think it best to let everyone get on with their lives and away from the public glare.

  8. These women are very brave for doing this. It takes a lot of courage - especially given the hate that they have had to face. I don't understand it, where it all comes from, but I do pray for you and of all people on this earth, I know that the Duggar family is in the Lords capable hands. I don't doubt that you will do His will whatever that is, and that He will always be taking care of you.

  9. That photo is a little innapropriate given the subject matter. Sexual abuse is a serious issue, not something to laugh at.

    1. It was a picture from the Kelly file episode where they talked about the sexuality abuse. That is why the picture is relevant.

  10. I love your family. Really enjoyed your show. So sorry the scandal happened in your lives.I admired how you yourselves handled the situation. Time will only tell if Josh is really healed as he has two daughters growing up in his care.I pray to the ALMIGHTY GOD IN HEAVEN THAT HE IS! I totally wished this all could have remained private. I think too much is shared in these times.
May God bless your family looking forward.

  12. When I was in third grade, a boy on the bus fondled me over my clothes. Even though it was uncomfortable, I didn't say anything about it (because it didn't feel like he was trying to hurt me.) at that time. (Days later, the police came to our school to talk about "bad touches" and they asked if anyone had ever been touched there. I raised my hand, and they pulled both myself and the boy out of class.) I now understand that he was just curious. I do think of it every time I see him, which is every morning on the weather. Do I hold it against him? No. Why should I? However, my mother married a man when I was 9 who adopted me "as his own". When I was twelve, he began molesting me. This, along with verbal and mental abuse continued for two years, when I was removed from my home to live with my Grandma. (No one could understand why I was acting out. They thought it best if I lived with her.) Do I hold it against him? Yes, but for my own soul's sake, I don't want to. Why him and not the boy? Because the boy a.) Didn't try to say "you better not tell!" The "dad" told me if I said anything he would "beat me to a bloody pulp". B.) The boy never bothered me again. The "dad" bothered me every single time my mother would leave the property. I could go on for days. But here is the thing...none of us were there with Josh and any one of those girls. None of us know the truth. I can tell you this, not a single one of his sisters seem in any way afraid of him or even distant, which I take as the Christian "forgive and forget" thing. Not "you hurt me and I wont forget".

  13. I have always loved your show, as well as your Christian beliefs. I have grown stronger in my faith due to how and what you teach your kids.I am saddened by all that the family is going through. But, I know that God gives strength to the weary. This includes the weary in heart and soul, as well as the body. God bless you all for everything you do for HIM!!!

  15. 1.I was just wondering why all the Duggar girls never wear long pants? They just seem to wear skirts or dresses. I thought maybe it had something to do with their Religion. But..I don't think that I have ever heard of any Religion not allowing that. 2.Do you think that might change for the ones that get married? 3. Do you think there is ever a chance that the 19 and Counting will ever come back on TV? Thank you so much for answering what you can about my questions..Go Bless you

  16. This is so sad to me, that they took this to the limits that they did. I too was sexually abused by my brother a couple of times. I was actually molested under my clothes and worse. He did not grow up to be a horrible person, he is actually quite successful and I do not believe for one minute that he is a sexual predator. I believe like you that he was curious. I do also believe now that my cousin was sexually molesting him. I do not have horrible issues, I am fine with sex and what issues I do have, do not stem from the molestation. I am truly sorry you were cancelled.

  17. I'm so excited about the possibility of getting the Duggars back on TLC (or an other network). It's the only wholesome family reality show (yes, wholesome and wholesome doesn't mean perfect). Notice it's the self-righteous individuals who dragged this family through the mud...."who is he who will cast the first stone". To the Duggars, I say, "To him that "overcometh, God giveth a crown; thru faith we shall conquer, tho often cast down; He who is our Saviour, our strength will re-new, LOOK EVER TO JESUS, HE WILL CARRY YOU THRU" (hymn selection)

  20. If TV Shows : TLC are so horrified and against the Duggar's (which is apparently why they cancelled the show), WHY are they now prepared to earn MORE MONEY on this "special"? One would have thought that if the Duggar's were such monster's that TV Shows : TLC has made them out to be- that they would never film a single second more of them?!?!?!?! Love you guys and miss you all. Lord knows nobody is perfect but I feel a special bond to the family as you brought me back to Jesus after a long hiatus. Miss you all- Take Care xo

  21. I don't like that they are doing this. The fact the girls were unaware they had even been touched and that it was so minor.... just doesn't seem like it can compare to what other victims of abuse go thru. I understand this was a big deal to the family and it seems like they tried to handle it the best they could. It sure explains some of their current rules and the whole side hug thing.

  22. I have very much enjoyed watching your family on TLC. I would like to know from Michelle and Jim Bob what the Institute in Basic Life Principles teaches about sexual abuse? I have read some truly horrifying accounts on-line from people who were subjected to the teachings of this Institute on this subject and I find is so very distressing. I feel strongly as a Christian that each of us as children of God have to be fully responsible for our thoughts, feelings and actions. Under NO circumstances do I believe that anyone who is a victim of sexual abuse somehow is to blame. Please reassure me and others that this is not what your family believes. Respectfully yours.

  23. Your show was a blessing to thousands of people, including non-Christians! I feel TLC did this country a disservice by removing the show. I have met so many people who enjoyed the show and were leaning more and more to the Christian lifestyle as they watched the Duggars' beautiful family. The Duggars have a way of reaching unsaved people that would otherwise remain lost. Shame on TLC!!!!The Duggars are humans, not saints. Christians are not perfect, merely forgiven by the grace of God! TLC is sending the wrong message!

  24. Praying for all of you, I miss watching the show and hope you are all doing well. I hope Josh gets the help he needs to fight the demons, I hope Anna will work on forgiveness and make their marriage work. He can change with a lot of support and hard work. It will take along time for him to earn the trust of his wife again. Hang in there Duggars.

That picture is from a show on FOX when Megan Kelly interviewed the girls. They talked about the molestation and this was a light moment shared between the girls/women in that interview. It is part of the subject they spojke of. Give it a rest, please
