Duggars on Politics and Family

For the past few weeks, the Duggars have been traveling with presidential candidate Rick Santorum, but this is not their first time supporting a political figure. What made the family decided to become involved in politics?

The revelation occurred back in 1997, when Jim Bob Duggar felt called to run for the Arkansas House of Representatives and won. After completing two terms, Jim Bob campaigned for a seat in the United States Senate and lost, but that was just the beginning. The large family made national headlines when an AP photographer snapped a picture of Jim Bob and Michelle and their clan walking into the polls on election day. One thing led to another, and the Duggars were filming their first documentary for TLC.

Since that day, the Duggars have not only been filming reality TV regularly, but they have also been actively involved in politics. Hear Jim Bob and Michelle explain how politics has influenced their family in the following video:

The Duggars have been in and around Greenville for the past several days. They were out and about today. (We posted a schedule yesterday.) When we get more information about upcoming public appearances, we will post it.

  9. Hi Anonymous (at 7:15 AM & 8:00 AM)

At this time, we do not know the Duggars' schedule for today. They do not always announce their public appearances, but if we hear anything, we will post it to the blog.

We also heard that Josh and Anna (and maybe Jim Bob and Michelle) will be headed to Florida soon.

  12. I appreciated your uploading this video. JimBob and Michelle had important and gracious things to say about the value and need for US to serve our country. There are many ways to do this, as they showed us. WE ARE the government!! All those elected officials RAN for office. They risked much to have that "voice" (whether for righteousness or unrighteousness). We need men who don't just have convictions, but who also back them up with skills and character that will stand up to the scrutiny! "We've nothing to choose from"; but that is more an indictment on ourselves than anything. Even Michael Jackson suggested: "I'm starting with the man in the mirror..."

Our founding fathers were statesmen who rendered service that stood on sacrifice, not self-advancement. I am grateful for JimBob's example and encouragement showing us that we can also serve our country, if we just will.

  13. That's great to know how the kids are all using their gifts to be involved in the community! That they encourage this, and pray about everything, and see it as a family ministry. Thanks for showing this.
