    1. I can save you a bunch of time, 2:35. Someone speaks to Jim Bob. Jim Bob says yes. Chaperones keep anything other than hand holding or side hugging from happening. Surprise - a ring! Everyone cries. A dress is tried on. Everyone cries. A church is decorated. A thousand people come. Everyone cries, then has a snack. There's a honeymoon with a camera crew. Meanwhile, someone else gets pregnant, someone else gives birth, and someone else enters a courtship. And there you have another season of Counting On. :)

    4. ...and Jeremy drives really fast despite Jinger saying she feels extremely uncomfortable. Someone calls it a joke. No problems there. No problems anywhere. And the band keeps playing on.

The show will eventually need to grow beyond this model or it won't be around for long. There is only so much one can take of this circle. Plus with People mag and social media, we already know the updates in advance.

I hope they're on for as long as possible.

    5. they are very well-prepared. I think it's exciting to see your new baby come into the world. That's the way all of us used to get here. The Duggers are they only show I consistently watch. Nothing else seems to be worthwhile but watching this family. I love watching them grow up falling in love get married and start their new families.

    6. Anonymous,March 2017, 8:20 PM Where did you find the information about Jinger being uncomfortable with how fast things are moving? I honestly don't know. I'm not trying to leave a mean comment.

    1. I'd be interested in seeing them move out, go to college, establish a career, and become independent adults.

    2. Ugh. People! This is a blog about the Duggars!!! If you want to see them do something different (& thus contrary to their beliefs), you're watching the wrong show!!! If you want to see folks pursue careers that take them away from family, watch a different show! If you want to see women who desire to leave their children with childcare workers or others to raise, watch a different show! If you want to see guys who like to escape to work and not lead their families, watch a different show! Otherwise enjoy this show and this family for who they are! To act like it'd be great for them to do something other than what they're doing is asking them to be hypocrites!

    3. Me, too. All of the girls just want to get married and be stay-at-home-moms? All of the sons want to work in the family business? I doubt it. My mother was one of 9 children, and none of those 9 had the same careers. Some went to community college, some went to a 4 year college, some got master's degress, some didn't go to college at all. One's an artist, one's a boat salesman, one works in PR, one is a nurse practioner, one is a radiologist, one is an claims adjustor, one is a receptionist, one is an office manager, and my mom was a factory production manager. Some married, some didn't. Some had big families, some did not. Some moved out on marriage, some long before they were married.

My point is, they all had totally different paths in life. This really is not true of the Duggars, and it's very odd. It makes me wonder how much control the Duggar kids have over their lives, because this is just so unusual.

      Delete
    4. Oh...so then they should do what you are interested in seeing? Maybe that isn't what THEY are interested in. You do have the option to not watch the show if their lives don't interest you...

      Delete
    5. Unfortunately College doesn't seem to be something ANY Duggar is interested in.

    6. Seeing as how the Baby Boomers are aging and will need more medical care and senior housing; how this country needs to keep up with changing global technology; how this country needs to fix its crumbling infrastructure; how we need trained, skilled workers in every aspect of our economy; then yes, I'd say seeing the able-bodied youth go to college, establish a career, and become independent adults is in EVERYONE'S best interest.

      Delete
    7. Anon@2:23- Chill. It's an opinion, not a mandate.

      Delete
    8. Anon 2:23, the Duggar children are only interested in marriage and having babies because that's all they know. They haven't been given the freedom to explore anything else. Maybe if they had, these would not be their choices or interests.

    9. 11:41 Ugh People! This blog seems to have no problem with diiversity when it comes to opinions! I'm sure the Duggars are used to it too! Sometimes its good to hear other opinions, whether you agree with those opinions or not 11:41! Oh, and opinion should be given respectfully of course. You don't speak for everyone 11:41. We can do that ourselves thank you. Asking is learning. I don't think anyone should just blindly follow and do things just because "that's how its always done". Open your mind, that's how we learn and grow!

      Delete
    10. I have to agree with you 11:41. There are always too many comments saying what the Duggars should be doing and how they should be living their lives. When the Duggar kids reach adulthood, they decide for themselves what to do with their lives. What do you think that Jim Bob and Michelle tie them up in the house? A lot of them probably do go into the family business since they have been taught how to tile floors and remodel houses since children. Many people grow up and follow in their parents footsteps. People don't have to go to college to be productive in life. The Duggars have never lived off the government. They work hard and take care of their families. They are a great example.

      Delete
    11. 5:03, not all ties are visible. The invisible ones are called expectations. When not followed, they lead to disappointments. What child wants to disappoint their parent? So yes, there are ties.

    12. Really if you think of it all the girls do have different jobs. Jill is example. Both jill and derek is independent from their family's and I do believe they like the jobs of jill teaching the kids snd the women. She has teacher personality. Derek like connecting with other people who are in need and he is an accountant so he could just go back to that. But this way he gets to work with his wife and they live the way they want to down there. Jana is a home maker and many women loves that. She takes after her.grandmother. Jessa is doing what she likes to do. She is like the talk host.on counting and she includes everyone on the show. She and Ben is young but.I do see.her involving herself with many groups of people and.like a talk show host she gets involved with the people. Jinger has a camera profession and a.people person. A pastor.wife.works too. Joy anna is a hard worker who.loves outdoors stuff she can organize and lead others in her work. The boys especially John David he is awesome with lots.of different.employment. But.I do know women who do nothing but stay home watch TV and stay with the kids all day and.go.on comouter. I think.when these girls get.married they aren't marrying guys who is king kong. I see the girls breaking out into their own . So.if marriage allows that with support that is good. It may not be as others or.myself live as working people but it's not wrong. If they find the right person who they are comfortsble with and let.them grow into their.own it is good for.that.support. Jill rally has.came.into.her own
      God.bless them

    2. I love the Duggars and, Austin and Joy, I'm so happy for you! Congratulations!! I'm looking forward to your time as an engaged couple. God bless you as you get to know each other better. I see you have entered into this engagement prayerfully, seeking His will in your marriage and lives. I know there are some negative posts but ignore them. There are some wise words in the Bible just for you. I don't know who (Paul maybe) but he said "Once I have heard from the Lord, I confer no more with mortal man". Words may be a little off, but the meaning is there. You'll find them. Just keep on listening to what God lays on your hearts and don't worry about the rest. He will lead you to people of wise counsel. He is the master leader and won't steer you wrong. He will bring joy to your life. (No pun intended, Austin....well maybe a little.) God DOES have a loving sense of humor. I like Him. He's already taken the "Joy" part into consideration. Can't wait to see where He takes you two next. It will be awesome...because we serve an awesome God! God bless you both and together as you head toward your marriage.

    3. Many give Ben a hard time but lets realize he is relatively young to be doing quite mature things like having a wife and two children, he also is on track in college classes for biblical studies, having completed an associates and working towards a bachelors. At his age i worked at the rib crib, lived at home, and went to college. He has more responsibilities than i did. I didnt have a place of my own to live. Hes doing great in terms of managing his family life so young. Creds to you Ben & Jessa for starting young. Unafraid and unselfish. I couldnt bring myself to have kids til 30 because i was too selfish. Wish i had had their maturity so young. Creds to Jim Bob , Michelle , michael & Guinn. Seriously, their parents did something right with consistency. Amazing what the Word of God being a daily part of your life will do. Im trying my best to raise my 3 daughters to be sweet and gracious young women.

    5. Ellie, how do you post these videos? Because every one seems a different format (size), and none of them seem to work. You need some IT help.

    7. Hi Readers,

When posting TLC videos, I use the code given to me directly by the TLC tech team. Is everyone who is having trouble outside the United States? If not, I always recommend updating your Adobe Flash Player.

      Ellie

    8. Not outside the US
Adobe is current and fine on other sites
Using Firefox browser, no updates needed there

Sometimes if I can't see a video here, I'll go to the TLC site to watch it there. I usually have the same problem on their site and can't see it there either. I'm using an ad blocker. Maybe that's it? See what TLC techies have to say about this.

    4. They are engaged. There is a photo from there valentines celebration of joy cooking. If u look close it looks like a ring on her finger just turned around so u cant really see it. I agree with you it is very frustrating how far behind it shows. Henry will be probably 4 months old before they get to airing his birth. Maybe they do it this way so more people will go out and buy people magazine more.

  12. Why do you suppose the music is so ominous with the video where Austin asks JimBob permission to court Joy? and then later in the promo clip when he asks for her hand in marriage?? JimBob goes Wow! and then his eyes go up. He says it would be an honor for Austin to join the family, but then acts strange about it, like he does not want it, at least now.

  17. Hmmm....Austin said they won't hold hands to "protect their purity" but they're seriously hugging at Christmas! I'm crying "Foul!" here. Judging by this picture, I'd say they got engaged at/near Christmas. They're a little too close and cozy for no hand holding.

    1. They are engaged now so holding hands is appropriate. GL

  18. Watching the video clip, none of the family members nearby are in the slightest surprised or upset in any way that Austin and Joy-Anna are definitely comfortably physically connecting (not a side hug and definitely more contact than hand holding would be- Logic anyone?). Either something momentous has occurred, like a proposal, or they've been hugging for quite awhile. The family is suspiciously okay with it, given their firm "side hugs" only stance.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ok,we need a courtship from one of the guys. Lets just say Joy Anna is engaged, I think Jill will be her maid of Honor.
Jessa wedding-- Jinger was Maid Of Honor
Jinger wedding---Jessa was Maid of Honor
Jill wedding----Jana was the maid of Honor

I really hope Jim Bob tells them they need to wait

    1. Jill's away on the mission trip and very pregnant. I would be surprised if she stood up for Joy, especially when it appears an April wedding could be in the works.

      Delete
    2. For Jim Bob to tell them to wait he would have to say do as I say, not as I do. They are not any younger than either Jim Bob and Michelle or Ben and Jessa when they married. But I do get the idea from the ominous music and tone when Austin asked to court and the "Wow" from Jim Bob and his raised eyes, that he is not too happy with the timing.

  24. Interestingly, Arkansas is one of just a few states with covenant marriage laws, yet it is has one of the highest divorce rates in the country. (Disturbingly, CM laws make no provision for emotional or financial abuse.) This state also has one of the youngest average marrying age, fewest number of college graduates, and is one of the nation's poorest states. All these factors- young age, limited education, low economic statues- contribute greatly to divorce rates. Also, research shows that the rational part of the brain isn't fully developed and won't be until age 25 or so. In fact, recent research has found that adult and teen brains work very differently.
I do hope JoyAnna will be very happy. However, I feel sorry for her that options appear to be so limited. Marriage can be a wonderful thing, but she seems so very young and inexperienced with life. I understand that some religious views hold that marrying young is preferred so that the couples are not tempted to engage in premarital relations. However, there's little guarantee that such marriages, along with a covenant marriage contract, will be successful.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It is also interesting to note that the other two states that offer covenant marriage have a divorce rate that is average and below average. Issues such as financial and emotional abuse are clearly covered under the living apart element of the contract and can also be addressed through the counseling that has already been agreed on. Also, as significantly few couples choose to engage in covenant marriage at all it seems difficult to determine what significance can be extrapolated from those statistics. It is true that our states vary in their economics and secondary education applicants. That being said I question the ability to use those statements to draw any but the most generalized conclusions about the poplulation overall, and see no opportunity to apply it the the Duggar children specifically. I cannot imagine that an elitist standard that discounts the value of skilled labor or the dedication and investment involved in raising and shaping the next generation can be intended. One of the great debates taking place among those with tenure for many years is the value of an "American" secondary education as it applies to education. The standards of admission have been lowered, in many instances frosh and soph years are regurgitations of high school material, and campus life has become a prolonging of the teen years as opposed to maturing young adults. A young person who has been parented in a deliberate purposeful way, who has been given the tools of self-discipline and self-awareness as well as a sense of service to others and the gift of knowing that they are not the center of the universe seems better equipped to know the weight and commitment of a marriage as opposed to others who have been living in a state of protracted adolescence.

      Delete
    2. I didn't now what covenant marriage was, so I looked it up. As a strong Christian who believes in Biblical marriage, I'm not sure I would want to sign anything to restrict my own legal rights.

  25. Austin already looks more genuine or it comes over the camera better reminds me of the best courtships - Josh and Anna, Derick and Jill

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree, he does look more genuine and mature in his love for her. Derrick and Jill were a sweet couple, as well as Austin and Joy. Ben and Jessa have the strangest relationship though in my opinion, that pair threw me because they've appeared so awkward and uncomfortable together since the beginning.

    2. josh? best courtship?

      Delete
    3. I agree 2:05. Obviously Ben and Jessa now share to children together, but they still come across as a bit aloof with each other. @ 3:37. Josh did fine with the courtship. It was in honoring his marriage vows where he flubbed it.

      Delete
    4. I have to disagree. I think Ben and Jessa looked like they were burning with lust for each other before marriage (which is great), which is probably why they didn't kiss in front of the audience. I think people just react to being on camera differently.

      Delete
    5. I don't necessarily think Ben and Jessa are awkward, I think Ben just freezes up on camera and has a hard time "spittin it out" shall we say. I find Jessa very assertive, which is a bit unusual considering how the Duggar beliefs that the men are the leaders. Jessa is the leader in that house lol! GO JESSA! I just think the combination of their personalities just come across kind of akward for that reason.

I think Joy is soooo sweet, she is my fave Duggar girl. all the girls are great.. but Joy just has a little something special about her that stands out.. a little tom-boyish at one moment all rough and tough then a sweet, intelligent woman the next.. you go girl.. I think you are awesome... Austin seems like a perfect match, too

  40. I am hoping the new season will focus on Joy Anna and Ginger and leave Jessa and Ben out. Been there done that they are boring and hoping to get rich off being on TV. Can wait to hear what is in store for the newlyweds.

    1. Totally agree. I like Jess and Ben but they sort of rule the roost. They appear in everything. I would like to see a bit more of Jeremy and Jinger, Joy and Austin and Joseph and his new girl - Ben needs a little more training in public speaking otherwise he is a nice guy but to be giving advice to Jeremy made me laugh. 'Bottom of the line " and 'you know' as part of his every conversation start to grate on my nerves. Ben has to mature a little more to be giving advice to the older boys. I am not trying to be negative with my comments and hope this is not portrayed in that way.

  41. Today much of what is taught in government schools amounts more to indoctrination than what is true education

The Dugger family is far from sheltered ....they demonstrate many and varied life skills and useful career paths as well as world travel .

Their vast numbers of community friends provides them with a broad influence by way of their hands on exchanges of services and social opportunities with more depth than a task to check off their list of how to effect the world

I for one will take having the families of this model any day to the raging mob rule we see in many campuses these days ....

It reminds me of when Paul spoke to the mob of silver smiths for Diana ...." the more part knew. It why they were gathered together"....much like what we see in the protests which escalate to violent intolerant rants

Love the Duggers ....more sane than many today

  44. I love watching the duggar kids as they grow up and start families of their own. Every family has things to hide. No one is perfect. The Bible says "let you without sin, cast the first stone. I enjoy their christian values, their sense of humor. I just look forward to each show. No foul language, no one showing body parts. It's just a good clean show. Just watching them grow as a family

  45. Can't see the video either. I think that something should be done on your end.

  46. Well I like the Duggars I feel the Bates do a better of job of allowing their kids to grow up as independent adults. Those that wish go to college or other training.

  47. Won't be long and you have to update the family blog picture with all the new babies and new spouses. We love the show.

  48. The TLC Videos you post never work. They should not be allowed to post them if they are not working. Nuisance.

  49. Hi. I want to thank you for this blog so I can get updates on the Duggars. I miss Michelle's blog and all the great parenting and organization tips. Her cheerleader charisma really added fun to 19 Kids. I got baptized because I watched this show. I pulled my kid out of school and homeschooled for two years because Michelle motivated me. I even reorganized my pantry because Jim Bob's system was so great. I still plan to make tater tot casserole. We all were so excited when Josh courted and married Anna. (Never mind what ended up happening) My point is, is that, there was so much positivity and motivation in 19 Kids that Counting On hasn't captured. Previous comments noted it's predictable plots because it just focuses on the marriages that happen. That's great, and updates on some of the older kids, but it's missing the motivational, the how-to's, part. I care about these kids because I've been a fan since Michelle had 14. I hope Counting On will succeed and these are my suggestions. I also wish Michelle and Jim Bob would write another book. Thank you and may the Lord bless you
