Duggar Family Time in Arkansas

A few months ago, Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo and their two girls traveled back to Arkansas to spend time with family, with a brief stop in Dallas to visit Justin and Claire. On their first day in Arkansas, Jinger met up with her mom and sisters for a girls day, while Jeremy--with Evangeline in tow--went to work with Austin. The video that the Vuolos posted (link below) includes Abbie, Kendra, and Lauren, whose appearances on social media are limited.

Vuolos: Going Back to Arkansas

  1. Why is it OK for Jinger to tape and post other people's kids, but nobody's allowed to post hers?

    1. Perhaps she got permission? Was the video from a public place like a restaurant? You risk your image in public. Why are you in their business? They don’t need others mad on their behalf. Did the tabloid get permission to post the images from Jinger? They all raise the kids different and have different concerns about publicity.

    2. It’s strange rules for sure but as long as everybody is being respectful of each other’s wishes.

    3. Maybe she asked permission first. You know, let the parents make the call for their own kids.

      Delete
    4. Because she had the parents permission

    5. I'm sure she asked permission. Maybe that's why it took so long for the video to come out with all the editing and asking she had to do.. who knows.

      Delete
    6. Maybe the others don't play the silly game of "I don't show my kids! That's why I show them all the time from the back!"

      Delete
    7. OP this is ridiculous. There is a thing called permission. It also explains why it took a while for the video to come out. Stop trying to find the littlest things.

      Delete
    8. Ha - there are her kids in a video again, from the back again. After she's said she's keeping them out of the public eye.

      Delete
    9. @1:54 No, there's a thing called sticking to your word. If you say you're keeping your kids off social media, don't go around showing them from the back all the time. And don't show everyone else's kids, because the same logic for why you're keeping yours offline should apply to them too. They are just as worthy of being protected as yours are. Or they should be.

      Delete
    10. 4:21 she has addressed how she films and takes pictures of them already. She is their mother. Why are you so press over something you misheard?

      Delete
    11. Jinger needs to realize that her attempts not to show her kids are not working. We've seen exactly what they look like from all those video and photo glimpses. It's a lost cause at this point.

      Delete
    12. Jinger can show her kids how she pleases. Some celebs do the same thing and I don't see nobody complaining. Stop acting like you are entitled to their children because that's what it really boils down to here. When they wasn't showing their kids at all, you guys still was throwing a tantrum. But why? You know what that makes you sound like?

      Delete
    13. I don't know about anyone else but I have NO interest in seeing their kids. Especially if they've said they don't want to show them!! Entitled? No siree. It's silly actions on their part.

    14. People do think they are entitled to these Duggars.

  2. So why is it still a secret here that Lauren has had #3? I don't see Lauren demanding that video be taken down so nobody knows she was pregnant last winter. Nor did she have the Christmas video removed where her second kid was outed. No reason any more not to update that birthday list.

    2. Lauren and Si never fully stepped back from public. They are just not ready to fully come back.

    3. @7:15 There was a Christmas video from the big house. I forget who posted it. There were stockings with Lauren's 2 kids' names on them.

    4. @July 6th, 3:23pm. As friends of the Duggars, Lily & Ellie have probably promised the various Duggar family members that they won't share any information without having permission to do so. Thus, Lily & Ellie can't update the birthday list without breaking a promise. I would also love to see a more accurate birthday list, but I appreciate that Lily & Ellie are sticking to whatever promise they made to the Duggars.

      Delete
    5. @3:13 If that's the case then ALL birthdays should be removed. Nobody's privacy is more important than anyone else's. It's also silly to have some kids listed there but not others in the same family. Makes no sense. Those family pictures are invasive too by that standard.

    6. 5:31 Unless they just haven't updated their website. It takes a while.

    1. I believe, this was before Jinger's book came out.

    2. Jinger's book was actually mostly positive toward her parents and family. She spoke highly of her parents but explained why--to her, specifically--Gothard's teachings were harmful. I feel she stopped short of directly saying her parents were wrong in following it. She gave at least one example of when her parents pointed her in the right direction despite Gothard's rules, and overall emphasized that she appreciated her upbringing but as she got older realized that a lot of Gothard's "additions" didn't actually follow the Bible. I don't know if her parents read it or not, but she made a pretty good case of why some of the teachings were wrong so hopefully they learned something from it. But she spoke highly of them so I doubt there was much of a rift as a result of it. And given how many of the girls were wearing pants in the photo from the girls' day, I think a lot of them agree with her!

      Delete
    3. I found Jinger's book to be highly respectful of her parents. She has found true freedom in Jesus Christ and is compelled to speak up, especially to set the record straight on what was said in the book she "authored" with her sisters. The Bible commands the Church (the body of Christ) to share the TRUE Gospel, not man-made Gothard rules, and that is what she has tried to do. I give her a lot of credit.

    2. People in Arkansas probably follow the law and drive better than big city people

      Delete
    3. 4:13 "Big City People" don't let their unlicensed teenagers drive around the property in junker cars and construction equipment. I remember when Anna was scared to pieces to drive in DC. That itself creates a hazard for others.

      Delete
    4. Big City people kids are in the highest percentage to cause a wreck from careless driving and texting while driving. Seems they are not different than those country kids.

    5. Sorry 11:10, it's rural roads that are and have historically been the most deadly in this country.

  5. Another slack law in Arkansas. You can ride loose in the back of a vehicle (like Austin) without a seatbelt. I will never understand why this family doesn't seem to care about safety. At least Jeremy eventually kind of put his seat belt on (without the shoulder part).

    3. @10:37 Likely he came for appearances sake only. If you notice, there were no visits to the Big House.

  7. Can you imagine the Bates daughters writing books and appearing all over tv and then in a documentary about how they were raised in a cult and how terrorized they were all the time and then posting a video showing themselves visiting the family like they didn't say these things. There is no accountability for their actions. Them Bates kids not only would never do this to their family, neither would the siblings put up with it if one of the Bates kids lost their minds and caused all this hate online that the Duggar family is getting. The nerve of them 2 girls! They are really full of themselves! Gil and Kelly get respect because they don't tolerate that kind of disrespect.

    1. The Bates family are not near as strict as the Duggars. The Bates kids might have gotten paid for their time on the TV show. We don’t really know. A lot of the Batss women have dducation and some have jobs.

      Delete
    2. Don't ever be fooled by intentional impressions left via social media, YouTube, or TV... doesn't matter if it's the Duggars, Bates, or your neighbor down the street.

      Delete
    3. A couple differences - first, Gil is still on the board of the IBLP. I keep hoping he's there to help steer it to a better place and bring some sense to it, but I'm probably wrong on that. Second, the Bates didn't really have the same sort of explosive, family-destroying controversy that probably made it a little easier to step out and explain that some things clearly didn't go according to plan. Like, that fact was already pretty obvious based on Josh, so taking a further step to explain where some of the things went wrong wasn't as huge as it would be for the Bates. In fact, I think Jinger was actually very gentle on her parents in the book and probably felt like she was even defending them and explaining why they did what they did at the time. Finally, I tend to think the Bates figured out sooner to loosen the reins on their kids from those rules and regulations to keep them from rebelling to the same degree. They've showed a lot more physical contact with future spouses, and dressed in pants for years. They never seemed quite as rigidly "programmed" as the Duggars, to be honest, so I think it's a very different situation.

    4. 8:43 we don't know their personal lives. A lot of the times people who complain about women not having jobs don't have jobs themselves or are unhappy they have to work. It really is none of your business and it doesn't effect you at all.

      Delete
    5. 1:52 People who post their lives on TV or social media are leaving themselves open to comments and opinions. BTW, no one was complaining about anyone not having a job. It was simply an observation someone made about the Duggar women, which is pretty much based on what they've shown the public and talked about regarding their IBLP theology- women are supposed to be housewives and mothers. Furthering one's education or having a career outside the home are discouraged. Furthermore, comments made shouldn't affect you at all.

      Delete
    6. 9:33 people who never been on TV who over share their lives and pictures on social media is subjected to the same treatment in your logic? So let me do the same to you. You are using it as an excuse to be a bully.

      Delete
    7. @6:09 How is stating facts in line with bullying? The Duggar daughters are taught that women are supposed to be housewives and mothers and they're not encouraged to further their education or have a career outside the home. That's what their "reality" TV show was all about.

      Delete
    8. 6:03 Its how you are going about it. And if the Duggars was regular people, would you still feel the same? Did you go to college and have a career? You want to push second education on people, help them pay for it.

      Delete
    9. @5:26 We DO help pay for it. Sixty percent of states have at least community college tuition-free, funded by state tax dollars.

      Delete
    10. @5:26 - I'm 6:03 and, yes I went to college, earned a Master's degree and had a professional career for over 35 years and am now enjoying retirement. I am also married and raised a family. My comment was pushing anything on anyone, but simply stated facts about the Duggars. They have followed IBLP doctrine, which discourages women from having a post-secondary education and teaches them that they should be housewives and mothers. It was the family pushing that ideology on TV, not me.

      Delete
    11. 5:26 Chances are your tax money is paying for someone else's kid to go to college, either directly, or by keeping tuition down.

      Delete
    12. 9:31 but you are pushing it just like the Dyggars. I don't think people realize them saying they need to go to college and have careers is also pushing them just like what their parents did to them.

    2. I think that is moot now that the show no longer exists. I'm not sure exactly what the hold Jim Bob has over his children but it's very strong.

      Delete
    3. Anon 2:51 I don't think Jim Bob is this dictator type person that people try to make him out to be. Him and Michelle provided their children with a Godly, fun-filled, adventurous childhood. They got to see the world, had huge celebrations for birthdays and holidays and weddings. They got them involved in ministries and taught them how to serve God and others. They lived in a huge beautiful home and had a small store size pantry filled to the brim with food. Because of the way they were raised and the amount of children in the family they became a household name. People including myself were inspired by their wholesome lifestyle. That wasn't easy for the parents to raise them that way. They were in a stricter type denomination where modesty and integrity and a love for God and others was a priority which isn't a bad thing considering how most people are raising their kids. Then they grew up and two of the girls clearly got around a lot of worldly type people and decided to rebel against the parents and all that they use to believe in. After all the dishonor and now the horrible things being said about their parents in the media they think its ok to make money off of what they did. If they feared their Dad so much they would never have done this to him. I don't think he was mean, I think he might have spoiled them too much. Try pulling this stuff with Gil Bates or my Dad. lol. We are loyal to our parents.

      Delete
    4. 2:51 its something called fear.

      Delete
    5. @2:57 How do you know what kind of a father Jim Bob has been or what kind of a person he is when the cameras aren't rolling? Everything shown on their TV show was orchestrated to present them as a perfect family and himself as a perfect dad.

      Delete
    6. 2:57 -- Their parents taught them to follow man-made rules (down to hair style and length) written by a man many girls have accused of sexual abuse -- Bill Gothard. That is the opposite of Christianity. I'm glad at least some of the children have woken up to appreciate the true Gospel and their freedom in Jesus Christ.

    7. I agree 2:57. Who cares if the girls were made to wear dresses? His house his rules! Now that they're adults, they can live their lives and stop complaining..

    8. I agree OP. They got out in the world and decided their parents were "mean" and are rebelling.. i saw Jinger in a picture wearing ripped jeans.. she's a mom for heavens sake! Teens wear that kind of stuff..

      Delete
    9. @6:34 & 6:43 You obviously don't understand that the IBLP indoctrination isn't just about controlling what women wear. It's a cult that leaves women vulnerable to abuse by controlling males and protects the abusers.

      Delete
    10. I never understood the appeal of ripped jeans. They just seem ugly.

      Delete
    12. 8:03- the Duggar girls claimed to have chosen to wear their hair that way and dress the way they used to. They shouldn't have written about such things if they didn't believe in it.

      Delete
    13. They're wearing the very things they used to say "Nike" about. I hope they realize now that they shouldn't have been so judgemental of others' clothes.

      Delete
    14. @6:20 The Duggar girls wrote those things when they were still under the authority of their father. Of course they would be instructed to write what they did.

      Delete
    15. Surely none of you believe the girls themselves wrote any part of that book. It was written by people acting with the adults in charge, for marketing the brand purposes. Who would buy this book? Viewers, who expected the book to match the show.

  13. I don't understand with all that happened and was covered up, that people get upset if victims want to tell their story to try to give other victims encouragement to seek help and to let them know they are not the only ones to go through the situations they are facing. It's like victim blaming. That's why a lot of things go unreported.

    8. You're not going to become "free" if you marry. You're going to go straight to obeying your husband and having kids. It's not even medically a good idea to have children before you're 23. Significantly greater chance of genetic defects before that age - new study just out - safest years are 23 to 32.

    9. Looked at some of that study. The lead investigator “assumes” that below the age of 23, defects are related to lifestyle such as alcohol, smoking and drugs. While that would make sense I’m always a bit doubtful about research with assumptions.
