Peculiar But Fulfilling

Jim Bob and Michelle might not be living up to what the world considers "normal," but they are fulfilling an even greater calling--one from above. If you've been following the Duggars for a while, you've probably heard them quote Psalm 127:3...

"Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him."

This is the verse that the family points to when asked the big question: "Why on Earth do you have nineteen kids?" The answer is God. Jim Bob and Michelle are following God's will for their lives. He chose to give them nineteen children, and they have graciously accepted each one.

In "Tea with Michelle Duggar," Vision Forum's Mother of the Year shares her heart with the women of America: "This is very peculiar that God would give nineteen children--really twenty with the baby that we lost--to one couple in a lifetime...This is not about us. This is about Him and who He is."

Is there a verse or quote that has especially impacted your life?

  1. Yes! Heb. 11:1 - "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen"
My daughter was diagnosed with a form of kidney disease that had no known cause and no known cure. During her treatment, this verse kept me going.

  2. this is my favorite Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

  3. Yes, recently. By Stephanie Nielson, a mommy blogger who after many years of blogging was in a plane crash with her husband and was burned over 80% of her body, with the majority of the burns on her face. Her life had changed drastically, but overall, probably for the better for all of the experiencesand opportunities she has been given since this has happened. She's Mormon, and they believe that on Earth you're uspposed to serve a purpose, so it would make sense that she could see her purpose on Earth has been to inspire others because of her ordeal, which is a tremendous gift, despite the terrible pain.

I have been through a really terrible year. I lost my fiance and have really, like Stephanie gone through the phase of looking at myself "before" and "after" my trauma and loss. This quote from her is what got me:

"A wave of emotion took me over for a minutes. I missed me again. I mourned for that woman again. I felt that familiar sadness. But then it was followed by a beautiful spirital confirmation that this is my new life. It is good. It is oh so good. And then I felt I should bring home me. Because I am still me. And those clothes will still fit."

I frequently have this picture as my profile picture on Facebook overlayed with "I CAN DO HARD THINGS." It means everything to me.
The quote is from an inspirational message she put out last year. I blogged about it HERE: http://adventuresinemilyland.blogspot.com/2011/02/i-want-them-to-fit.html

    Watch it.. you'll get it.

  5. "Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in faith, love, service and purity". I can't remember exactly which verse, but it was my high school's theme verse in the year 2003/2004 when I was in grade eight. Every time I read the bible though now I seem to find something relevant. Yesterday I was reading 1 Timothy and found a verse that I went "See? This is one of the reasons why I dress modestly, the bible clearly says so!" (1 Timothy 3).

  6. There are a lot of Bible frases that help me in life.
Psalm 127:3 is my birth verse.
There's also Psalm 55:23, the marriage verse of my parents.
My own marriage verse is 1 John 1: 5.
And of course the birth verse of our precious daughter:
    Jeremiah 32:27
Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

Because we have a hard time even getting pregnant. I could only wish for a fifth of the children the Duggars have. But we have only been blessed with one. And she is our miracle!

  8. ...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Galatians 5:22, New International Version.
This is the verse I measure myself against. I ask, "Am I growing in these areas?" If I am facing a difficulty, I usually find that I need to work harder on one or more of them.

  10. Yes!
Proverbs 17:22 says A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.
I think the joy of having Jesus in our lives is like a balm.
This is not a scripture verse but one time I heard a pastor say..."the ground is level at the foot of the cross". God sees no one as above another. I often need to remind myself of that.

  13. The one that gets me through so much, especially when I wonder why something happened, is Jeremiah 29:11 - "'For I know what I have planned for you,' says the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plasn to give you hope and a future.'" It helps me to remember that what I want isn't always His plan for me, and that His eventual plan is for me to join Him in heaven.
