DeleteSincere question for cynics, why? Why are you so cynical about Jeremy and Jinger? Not everything is a money grabbing scheme. Why do you doubt they would write a book out of a sincere wish to encourage people? You obviously don’t have to read it, but why not give them the benefit of the doubt? Why assume the worst of them?

DeleteWhat kind of encouragement do you expect people to get from their courtship story? How many people can relate to that? If you're talking about the miscarriage, there are tons of good books already on that subject, written by experts in the field.
DeleteI think they probably want to encourage people and share their story while also making money. Writing a book and getting is published is work. They’d hope to be compensated for their work and find some success with it personally as well. This is the American dream! Nothing evil here folks

DeleteYou're assuming that people who have no interest in reading the Vuolo's book have an axe to grind with them. For me, it's simply a matter of indifference. I have no particular feelings one way or the other about them and wouldn't spend the money or time reading their book.

A publisher came to them with an idea, someone interviewed them, someone wrote it up, and the publisher published it with their pictures on the cover. If their name wasn't on the book, would you have bought a book written by that third person, whose name is in tiny print?
DeleteThere is absolutely nothing wrong with writing a book for money. The choice to buy it is yours. You do as you do with any book. Read a synopsis then decide if you want to read it or not.

This just shows you that this family does not value education and would rather congratulate a couple with a flop book who only got a book deal for being who they are.
Delete9:41 it comes from a wide range of experience and expertise. My mother had 6 kids and after 3 miscarriages myself the best advice/comfort she could offer was, “keep trying.” After 7 additional years of that we sought professional help and found the why. So much time wasted and guilt.

It's things already shared or else Jinger trying to explain her feelings, most of which were how she froze or was confused or scared, and Jeremy saying how he pushed and pressured her and her family anyway to get what he wanted. That's not the kind of "hope" I want to read more about.
ReplyDeleteI felt that the exerpts I read showed issues with the family's way of life, and Jinger's resulting insecurities. I think they meant her stories as a positive spin, but I did not see it that way. For example, as an adult in her early 20's, she had to wait several months to find out if her parents "approved" of Jeremy. That is way too controlling and treating her like a child who couldn't think for herself.
DeleteWhy would you have to seek that kind of approval from your parents? If you think someone is right for you, find out yourself. My kids dated people and I didn't say a word one way or the other. I let them figure out whether to end the relationship or continue it. I was not getting involved in that, no siree. Being able to make up your mind and justifying your reasons is an important adult skill you have to learn on your own. Finding a spouse can be trial and error, but you learn extremely valuable lessons from those errors. Jim Bob is way too protective and all it does is make nervous girls who have to run to their father for help because they don't know they have their own strength and can make their own decisions.

I had no idea what they went thru before marriage ....It’s sad to see what Jim Bob did to Jeremy but it sure showed Jeremy’s character and you can see the love Jeremy and Jinger have for each other ... I really don’t see this in the other marriages ....Jim Bob always seemed to put Jeremy down or belittle him in some way... way to controlling. I finished the book the night I received it so now I’m going to read it again ... Jinger and Jeremy just have a sweet spirit surrounding them. God has them right where they need to be🙏

DeleteI haven’t read the book, so this is just a guess based on comments here. I feel like Jinger went from being controlled by one dominate male to another. Jinger seems easy to control, so I hate to see anyone taking advantage of that.

Without spoiling it for those who are waiting for their copy to be delivered in the introduction, they mention 1 Peter 1:3-9 and trusting in God to get us through our trials and He will carry us through. I so needed to read that and so I'm looking forward to reading the rest.

The next time you start bad mouthing self-employment, remember that someone took a risk to be self-employed in order for YOU to even have a job period. Without someone taking that risk, YOU won't even have a job at all.

Now they have the virus and my friend is worried sick herself.

Delete@9:32 You don't have to buy the book to read that incident. It's online. She didn't understand why she froze and was so scared and unable to commit further. Jeremy insisted and worked every angle to get what he wanted (her). To me it was upsetting to read because it almost seemed like she was a prize to win, not a scared human being.

I purchase a lot of books on Amazon (both novels & academic), & I was looking for another particular book when coming across this. It’s been given a 5* rating & I am really looking forward to reading it.

I'm sure its hard for Jill not being close to her extended family but her family (Derick and the boys) is looking to the future and hopefully will eventually get out of those clouds that hover over them and have a wonderful life.

I am far more interested in watching Jill and her very support husband find their way out of the dysfunctional Duggar family and lead emotionally healthy lives and are courageous for having started that journey. So far, the Vuolos seem to just be trying to cash in on the Duggar name while the Dillards are trying to stay away from it. But I still like the Vuolos as a nice couple. They just haven't done anything that warrants a book.

DeleteNot sure if I plan on reading the book for several reasons,but none of it is associated to the recent events with Josh being arrested. One is because my family isn't interested in the Duggar family anymore since they started to fall away from their Christian faith and values and started to believe and embrace some of today's Christian values like wearing shorter skirts, reading the modern versions of the Bible,and listening to Christian Contemporary music and playing and singing it following the events 6 years ago. Another thing is that I am sort of skeptical on how Jinger and Jeremy speak about their faith and the name of their podcast and book "The Hope We Hold" sounds like their fake Christian's and like they act false religious people of today like Joel and Victoria Olstene and they think it's ok for women to act like men and hold positions in the church like a pastor or deacon. And Jinger has really fallen away from her family's beliefs and embraced modern Christianity (though I respect her decision to wear pants because me and my family do and there is nothing biblically wrong with it) and ever since she got married has acted more feminist. DeleteOnly 3 years to do a law degree? It takes five in Australia, then you have to sit a bar exam on top of that.
ReplyDeleteIn the US, there are three types of degrees for law: you can graduate from college and then go to grad school which is 3 extra years, a merged program, where you do a bachelor's and masters together, or a year round program where you do the first but the masters program does not take off for summer or winter breaks.
DeleteBut keep in mind, most law students that graduate spend a year training at a law firm (not praticing) and study for the year to pass the bar.
Derick had to complete a bachelor's degree, which is a four year degree, before going to law school. Derick, I believe graduated 10 years ago with a bachelors in accounting. Yes, Derick will still have to sit for the bar exam.
DeleteIn the us you have to have another degree before going to law school. Law school is a post graduate degree. In my country, Colombia, law is an undergraduate degree so it does take 5 years

DeleteHere (not the US),our programs mesh with those in Australia. I checked; no difference. Our law schools do exchanges with Australian law schools. Three years for a LD and 4 years for a LLD. Then, you have to article and write the Bar Exam. Some of our students go to Australia to earn their law degrees. These are students who typically did not earn a place in our highly competitive law schools. They can come back and write their bar exams here (provided they find an articling position which is very difficult).
Derick will have to article at a law firm and then passed the Bar Exam before he can call himself a lawyer.
I had not planned to buy the book, but bought it on a whim and read it through on Saturday morning. I found it to be overall an enjoyable, worthwhile read for those interested in the Duggars. I appreciated their willingness to share further details of their relationship. I read it with an open mind to understand how they experience life and I found the book to be genuine and well-written.

DeleteNot really interested of reading a bit sincere book. After what's emerged, i don't really trust what they want to show us. They want to show us the "perfect" Christian family. If I'll read a book, i want a real book. A real family, addressing problems in a real and sincere way. And i don't think 2 years of marriage is even close to be enough to give martial advice😂 they have been together for what 4 years total? That honeymoon phase. I'd rather read a book about Jill and how she views her upbringing now♥️

Why do Christians have disagreements like that on the fine points of theology? Where do they get the idea that only ONE idea ("theirs") is the "right" one? That has always bothered me about religion. Nobody has all the answers.

ReplyDeleteMany families have a member (or maybe more than one) who is problematic and causes heartache and embarrassment to the family, however their bad behavior doesn't threaten anyone else's livelihood. Not so with the Duggars as their family is so tied to the image they project they are put in this spot of having the loss of their livelihood by the actions ONE family member.

The "About" section of their website alone turns me off with the bragging about being "the break out stars" and having amassed a large gathering even though it's so difficult to stand out in the Duggar family. How arrogant! I have no desire to feed their egos and their wishes for fame by buying their book. Nor will I reward people who are not actually working for their money but instead relying on cameras and the money of other people to get by.

DeleteI loved the book,found out more about their romance, it was a fun read, I really enjoyed it and hope they write a second one! You can't blame the other family members because of one bad apple in the family. Everyone has something going on in their life that they may not be proud of but since they are in the public eye you hear lies too about things that may not of happen or the truth is stretched out and people believe it! I'm not talking about Josh, I'm sure he did wrong but you can't blame the parents they did what they believe would help him, it's not Anna's fault or his silbings. We all make mistakes we are all not perfect!

DeleteJill and Dereck’s story is the story of most middle class Americans who have gone to school to better themselves. I am more interested in reading stories of people who choose a different path. It’s not that I support a lifestyle like JimBob and Michelle’s because I don’t. It’s just that it’s not a story like every other.
