“We didn’t watch a ton of movies [growing up]. My dad’s like, ‘Aww, we don’t want to stifle your creativity. Let’s go outside and build a fort or something. I liked that. We had lots of great childhood memories that were not just in front of the television.”
-Jessa Duggar Seewald
Counting On "Jinger Has a Baby" premieres in three hours, although you can watch it now on the TLC website using the link we posted earlier today. In addition to Felicity Vuolo's birth, the episode includes lots of never-before-seen footage from Josiah and Lauren Duggar's Austrian honeymoon (see preview video below)
The Duggar family avoids a lot of mainstream entertainment, but one movie they have seen many times is The Sound of Music. That's why Josiah and Lauren's trip to Vienna and Salzburg was so special.

Am i the only one who found the bed scene a little awkward..
ReplyDeleteNope.
DeleteHow was it awkward, they weren’t doing anything inappropriate.
Delete8L48PM: Yes, you probably are the only one.
DeleteWhat’s awkward about it??? They were super tired from their trip!!! Don’t you just plunk yourself on the bed sometimes when you’re tired?? Besides they’re not exactly gonna be doin any loving up with the camera crew present!!!
DeleteI guess I didn't find it akward as I don't even remember a "bed" scene.
DeleteThat was beyond awkward. It was ridiculous. Who on Earth (other than a Duggar) would let a TV crew into their bedroom and film them laying on a bed?
DeleteShe is so pretty!
ReplyDeletethat was a nice clip. funny when the married ones were asked to give advice on the honeymoon and they mostly smiled...
ReplyDeleteYea, thought it was really weird that they were asked to give advice for honeymooners!! Especially for ones that haven’t done any physical touching!! 😝 It’s a given some of what they’ll be doing!
DeleteSo glad Josiah and Lauren had a great time on the honeymoon. So sorry for there recent loss. Hopefully they will take some well needed off time before having another one. Love the show. Natasha B.
ReplyDeleteIt’s actually typically easier to conceive shortly after a miscarriage, so fin that’s what they want they should go for it.
DeleteI think watching movies can actually increase your creativity. It can open your mind to new worlds, new cultures, new forms of life. It can make you think and reflect more about different topics. Also, analyzing things like cinematography, sound editing, production design, animation techniques, etc, can really spark someone’s creative side
ReplyDeleteAgree with you OP and it's a shame that the Duggars see such stuff as "worldly" and restrict exposure. I would not have stood for my parents censoring any movies or books or TV shows. It wasn't for them to decide what I learned or how I viewed the world. Smart parents let kids watch or read whatever they're curious about and then they discuss it together. Fearful and controlling parents simply cut off exposure and claim it's "best" that way.
DeleteI think it all depends on the types of things you’re watching.
DeleteAnon 1:13. I don't totally agree with you on that. Parents need to know what their children are watching and reading. Some stuff out there is not appropriate for young children and it's the parent's responsibility to keep it off limits until the child is old enough to deal with it.
DeleteI thought it was ironic that they wanted to form "Duggar Studios" but knew absolutely nothing about cinematography, good or bad. They have very little frame of reference.
Delete1:13 PM -- Respectully -- you must be joking or trolling. The Bible says to train up a child in the way he should go, not fill his head with garbage and then try to explain it away later. Once a child has seen porno or extreme violence, you don't just explain it away. Those memories remain. I still remember disturbing things I inadvertently saw as a child. And seriously, you "would not have stood for" your parents trying to protect you? What kind of a home is it where the kids call the shots?
Delete113 is right you can't shield your kids from the world they will see things eventually so why not take the time to explain things while they're still with you? so just make sure they're old enough to deal with it and then deal with it don't hide it or pretend it doesn't exist.
DeleteI find it very ironic that they wouldn't be allowed to watch TV growing up but they are the stars of a show. Also, I'm not sure why TLC asked them such an awkward question about their best honeymoon advice. Awkward..along w/ seeing them lying on a bed. Strange.
ReplyDeleteI agree anon 10:04am. I don’t know why they put so much emphasis on them being alone together for the first time. They go over this with every newlywed couple and it’s getting old. I would rather see more of their personalities come out through their tourist activities.
DeleteThe whole thing of taking a TV crew along on your honeymoon is strange let alone having the crew come in your bedroom and film you laying on the bed.
DeleteIt’s the couple’s decision. If they want TLC to pay for the lovely honeymoon of their choosing, the couples have to agree to the filming. I saw the honeymoon scenes as very innocent. In fact, like another poster, I don’t even remember a bed scene so it must not have made a big impression on me. I’m sure TLC knows when to back off.
DeleteI know she’s 19, but I think Lauren is mature and down to earth. She is well spoken and seems to be just a lovely, kind person with a lot of knowledge that comes through. Just really liking her!!! She is good for Si.
ReplyDeleteThere is no reason a 19 year old should not be mature. I just read Farmer Boy to my kids, and 9 year old Almanzo has more skills and works harder than the average millennial today. So sad what low expectations we have!
DeleteI'm glad to see the Duggars marrying young and getting on with life.
1:28- FYI- Almanzo waited until he was 28 years old to get married. BTW, my son is a millennial. He has a college degree, works hard as a materials scientist in a lab all day and is working on his master's degree. It's too ba dyou paint a whole group with such a broad brush.
DeleteAnon 1:28. Why are you disparaging millennials? These kind of sweeping condemnations are both unkind and false. My daughter is a millennial. She and all of her friends have good jobs and work hard. Of course they have different skill sets than Almanzo b but that doesn't mean they're lazy. My caregiver is a millennial. She works very and takes good care of and her other clients plus works two nights a week at a nursing home. Please stop doing this sort of thing.
DeleteAnon 1:28. Why on Earth did you need to slam millennials? Comparing them to a novel about life in the 1860's is ridiculous. I know it's fashionable to knock people but it's not very Christian. None of the millennials I know are lazy. They all work hard and are responsible. After all they lived through the great recessional and know about hard times.
DeleteMy goodness some people are so cynical. There are great kids in every generation. I’m sorry they can’t see the good in people. It seems sad to wish that a group of our young adults were like pioneer children.
DeleteLOL, I'm the OP and guess what? I'm a millennial. Compared to previous generations, we are very lazy today. Doesn't mean every single millennial is lazy, but as a whole, yes.
DeleteI know many millennials, all are hard working, stable young adults. Their society and world are very different from that of those you gone before us, especially very different from that of a farm boy in the 1860s. Almanzo would not be able to function in the world today, even on a modern farm. He would not have the skill set nor education.
DeleteI do not know Lauren personally so I do not know the amount of general knowledge she has. Based on her background and some of her comments, I would suspect that it would be less than the average 19 year old here. But that is OK. She is only 19.
The young people (including the girls) I know would never think of getting married, until they are in their mid and late 20s and/or finished their education, have stabilized good jobs, traveled, supported themselves..
Marriage is too important a step to be the first one a young person takes when they become legally an adult.
Marrying young, especially for the girls, seems to be the norm with the Duggars. To each his/her own but it is not something that we encourage in our family.
9:47-Please enlighten us with your extensive research that led you to the conclusion that most millenials are lazy.
Delete1:28 -- I got your point about Almanzo and his generation loud and clear, and I agree with you. Sorry people piled on you so much!
Delete@9:47 Perhaps you and your friends are lazy but the young people I know are NOT.
DeleteIn every generation are those who have no ambitions, who are lazy. In every generation are those who are hard working and ambitious. And NO generation is better than any other.
Anon 5:04. Oh please. People have been complaining about how "lazy" the younger generation was since the beginning of time. I remember my mother complaining that we were lazy because we rode the school bus. She walked 2 miles to school (uphill both ways of course) every day, etc., etc.
DeleteI think some of you should do more research on almonzo Wilder. He was not a hard worker, but Laura loved him anyways.
DeleteAlso, the books were historical fiction. I'm sure there was some embellishment of actual facts.
DeleteJust curious about the intensive manual labor the original commenter does each day. I mean, to have such a problem with the millennial way of life must spur on some personal change in her own life, right?
Delete(Oh, by the way, it’s the millennial generation that is bringing BACK gardening, animal husbandry, homemade, home ec skills, simplistic living, etc.) As a millennial who homeschools my children, raises animals, gardens, cans, cooks 3 homemade meals a day plus snacks, manages a home, and has actually done the research on the number of millennials turning back to an old fashioned way of life, your comment made me sad. :(
Josiah should have been allowed to participate in school plays or community theater. He clearly has a flare for it.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed watching their honeymoon. The innocent entertainment they chose to participate in is so sweet. I was watching another reality show and they were acting so terribly.
ReplyDeletewatching this family is so refreshing.
I wonder if they had that Austrian favorite, Vienna Sausage, while they were there.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an awesome hotel suite!
ReplyDeleteSo pleased that we in the UK are getting the new series of counting on from Monday 25th feb & I’m very much looking forward to catching up with all the events I’ve read about on this wonderful blog but we are usually so far behind with.
