In late February, we shared photos of Derick Dillard's home haircut. Some of you asked to see a progression of his hairstyles, so we put one together. It took quite a bit of time, as his hair has gone through several chances since he and Jill first met. Enjoy!

Wow thank you guys for putting this together! I think I like Derek's hair best when he and Jill were courting! :)
ReplyDeleteEmma
WOW!
ReplyDeleteI like Derrick with Short Hair!
ReplyDeleteI love your long hair! Both of you!
ReplyDeleteLooks great in every style.
ReplyDeleteI think looked best during 2014 time period, pic with jessa and ben with them on date and then pic of them during 1st few months of marriage. my thoughts
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing. He looked healthy and happy and well-groomed. After that he started looking like those dangerous savages that they are always talking about in Central America. ;) cleanliness is next to Godliness...that's my motto.
DeleteThat's you're want and motto. If he wants to grow out his hair, that's his business. You can't tell people what to do.
DeleteSome people need to.et go.of their opinions of what is godly. Jesus himself told the people it is in the heart of person. If you judge you will be judged. Get godly in your hearts. The jewish religious leaders judged on the outside. Is that you?
DeleteWow! I didn't realize his hair and gone through so many changes. I think his hair looks better short. But I think what counts is how Jill likes his hair.
ReplyDeleteYes! Exactly!!!!! I like buzz cut so my hubby keeps it that way! He likes my hair very long, so I keep it long! We seek to please each other 😊 makes life happy!
DeleteHe looked the best on the date with Jessa and ben
ReplyDeleteI hope he keeps his hair short and the beard shaved. He was getting scary looking with the man-bun and overly full beard. Looking good now!!!
ReplyDeleteHe looks so much better with shorter hair and clean shaven. Also, wouldn't that be more be more comfortable when the are in central America doing their missionary work? Otherwise,if they are both happy with it, so be it
ReplyDeleteHe is an adult. He can choose his own hair style. Prayers for his/their safety and health until they return home.
ReplyDeleteNo way! We get to choose his hairstyles since he is in the public eye! Whoever thinks he should chose his own hairstyle (since he's only an adult) is crazy. He gave all that up when he started filming the shows. Everyone knows that their fans made the decisions! ;)
DeleteAnonymous @4:37.. He is ONLY in a reality show.
DeleteHe is NOT an important person in the public eye. So, he can wear his hair however he wants, even in a style the fans do not like.
Anonymous at 2:01, he was totally joking. He used major sarcasm. Basically he really meant the exact opposite of everything he said. :)
DeleteAnon @2:01. I was joking! Lighten up! Seriously, you really didn't think I was serious...right?
DeleteHe looks best when he's clean shaven and his hair is trimmed and flipped up a little at the ends. Makes him look YEARS younger. Derick is an ice looking man and with his hair trimmed, he and Jill make a good-looking couple.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great if the family would provide some current events updates for you to share.
ReplyDeleteDerrick is just coming of age so not settled on a specific style seems typical.
Anyone heard any news of Jill's health or the plan to return?
So many rumors over Jinger pregnant...is the family sharing?
Very cool..thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteWhat accounts for these radically different hairstyles in such a short period of time? He by far looks the best with short hair and minus the beard.
ReplyDeleteReally?? People have actually asked to see a progression of Derick's hair?? I am not of the fundamentalist world. I find some of the episodes entertaining. While I disagree with a lot of their interpretation of extreme gender role, I respect their choice to live as such. What I don't understand is what seems the fundamentalists obssession with outward appearances. Skirts, to long, to short? Hair, to long for Derick, to short for women if above the shoulders? Make-up? To much eyeliner..not enough eyeliner? Jinger wears shorts..becomes newsworthy..but even married won't wear them in front of her parents. What is this obssession? Isn't being a Christian about a personal salvation through belief in Christ? Everything they focus on is outward. Not inward.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you!
DeleteI have not been raised fundamentalist, but my personality is geared towards rule following. I cannot explain why, but there have been times when I have wished the Bible had clear guidelines for everything down to the minute detail. Then, as I am struggling and failing to live up to an expectation that I have created for myself, I remember that the Mosaic Law was required to be followed to the minute detail. People struggled and failed constantly and had to sacrifice whatever the Law stated. Then, expectations were added to laws that people literally could not keep up with. Jesus Christ is the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. There is freedom in Jesus Christ... freedom to seek holiness and give God our lives knowing that when we fail (because we will) Jesus has already spoken, "It is finished." I am so thankful for that. I have found that when I am critical of myself, that I am also critical of others. Also, when I am living in the grace that Jesus offers me, I am much more likely to see others through eyes of grace. Thank you for your thoughts anonymous 8:34.
DeleteI hear your points. I do think their main focus is inward, although there is a lot of outward focus on the hair, skirt lengths, etc., as well.
DeleteIt's not a "fundamentalist" teaching. There are many Christian denominations that practice the same lifestyle as the Duggars. Some are even more conservative than the Duggars.
DeleteNice comment, Casey. I'll bet many of us can relate that what you said. I sure can.
DeleteHe looks much better with short hair and no beard!
ReplyDeleteIt has been an honour to watch the whole family growing up and now to see Jill, Jessa and now Jinger pass the stage into being a wife and motherhood.
ReplyDeleteI think I am most curious about morning devotions, bible studies and teaching discipline because there is clearly something thousand's of people are missing when your children are so polite and well behaved, compared to a large proportion of the general public. Multiple blessings and prayers xx
I do not have a problem with men having long hair as long as it looks male - Derrick had the worst feminine looking long hair ever....not a good look on him!Keep it short Derrick...PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteI think he looks best with short hair and a little facial hair.I didn't like his hippy look with long hair,, sorry.
ReplyDeleteI just love you guys and your mission to spread the word thank you for all you do for those lost needing our lord and savior happy Easter And derrick love the hair styles looks good short again
ReplyDeleteWith respect: that one photo of Derick is really frightening. They need to address that situation. The drastic change in his appearance, eyes and face is startling. Why no real word from them? They do know that when making their lives so public, there are people who are genuinely concerned about them too; people just don't criticize them, they have observed them too. As human beings there is genuine concern and ignoring these obvious outward appearance changes just isn't polite of them. Derick is looking better recently; it's not just the new haircut.
ReplyDeleteI think think your concern is misplaced. Awhile back, they were forthcoming with information about Derick's jaw surgery and orthodontia. It stands to reason that his appearance would be affected. Do you expect explanations and updates from individuals in your life regarding their health? I think it would be incredibly rude to say to someone, "Gee, you don't look right, what's wrong?"
DeleteI agree. In some of the pictures he looked sick. I hope whatever it was it is gone and he is better.
DeleteAnonymous April 11, 2017 at 11:48 AM- I'm sorry, but I have to agree with the original Anonymous post above. Looking at the progression of pictures, there's a marked change from Easter 2016 to July 4 2016. It's not the hairstyle at all. There's an obvious weight loss in the face, producing prominent facial bone structure in the jawline, cheekbone, and temporal regions. The frontal bones of his skull (the forehead) became very pronounced in less than 3 months. He lost mass in his neck width as well. Compared to Easter 2016, he is noticeably gaunt. The original commenter was not being rude; he/she was concerned. Yes, it is very appropriate (not to mention compassionate) to say to someone who obviously looks unwell, "How are you doing? You seem to have lost some weight. Is everything alright?". It's ludicrous to be on a reality TV show and pretend there's nothing wrong when there obviously is- How it that helpful to either the actor, fans who care about him, or viewers who may be having the same issue? When a large number of your fans/viewers are noticing and expressing concern/asking questions, it's ridiculous not to address it.
DeleteI just hope Derick is doing whatever he needs to do to take good care of himself and his health for his own sake, as well as Jill's, Israel's, and his family's sake. By not addressing the issue, the perception is that they are hiding something, particularly when many fans are expressing genuine concern. It would be far better to just address things up front, proactively, rather than to try to corral the rumors or do damage control after the fact. Being on a reality TV show does make your life somewhat of an open book by your career choice. You're exchanging your privacy for the paycheck- that's what Reality TV is.
DeleteHe's such a sweetheart no matter how he wears his hair. Amazing how he's changed over the years.
ReplyDeleteHe looks much more handsome with a clean-cut look.
ReplyDeleteI never have criticized the Duggars before, and I always got frustrated when other people did. But Derek's long hair is very clearly hypocrisy. In the older Duggar girls book Growing Up Duggar, they very clearly state that in their family the girls long hair and the have short hair because of their convictions from the Bible (1 Corinthians 11:14-15). Really sad that they are no longer living by their convictions.
ReplyDeleteThat is funny since Jesus Christ probably wore longish hair. It was the custom for men in those days.
DeleteThe Bible does not mandate hair length. Do you really think women with short hair are going against God? Seriously?
DeleteFor the Lord does not see as man sees;[a] for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7
Actually, it is a very common misconception that Jesus had long hair. The misconception stems from paintings done mainly by European artists hundreds of years past the time period of Christ's actual life and death. These pictures then became popular and became the commonly accepted renderings depicting Christ. During his life, the average Jewish male had short hair. Remember, Christ was born and raised as a Jew. And 1 Corinthians does say it is a shame for a man to have long hair. Long hair on men that looks especially like a woman's cut, style and length is not what the Bible teaches. The reason is because God does not want a blurring of the sexes. He wonderfully created men and women to be different. Equal, yes, but different sexes. Long hair on women is a crown and glory for her. It should be long enough to distinguish her from men, and men's hair should be short enough to distinguish him from looking womanly. The popular man-bun in most cases looks too womanly. This does not mean all women should have very long, waist length hair, as usually younger women can grow it that length and even then they may prefer perhaps a more medium length for their particular hair style. Also, as women age their hair often becomes thinner and for some it just won't work to have long flowing locks, so they will often cut it shorter, perhaps in layers to add fullness, but still long enough to be womanly. If it's super short and styled like a man's then that does not please God. Is this the most important teaching in the Bible? Probably not but it is there for a reason and to reinforce that men should look like men and women like women to maintain the uniquely beautiful way He created them!
DeleteAnonymous April 12, 2017 at 2:04 PM, the original Anonymous poster above did NOT say that is her/his personal belief about hair length, but the Duggar girls have stated in Growing Up Duggar that it is theirs, according to how they read their Bible. If the Duggar girls base their belief that they should have long hair as their glory, according to that verse, it is a disgrace for a man to have long hair. So if they are "convicted" that they as girls/women should have long hair, then Derek's long hair should have been hypocrisy to Jill by that same standard. The standard shouldn't be a hard and fast "conviction" one day and changeable/optional on a different day. If it is, then it's not a standard (or a conviction), it's an opinion. God doesn't change His mind or His Word.
DeleteWAKE UP PEOPLE! The whole hair debate is frighteningly absurd and is not a valid Christian witness to unbelievers. There is a religion that mandates what women wear and what rights they have, and it is NOT Christianity. We have freedom in Christ. We are not bound by these man-made rules about clothes and hair length. To those who are not Christians, Jesus invites you to come with whatever hair you prefer, if you have tattoos, if you wear pants or a kilt, etc. All are welcome to follow Him.
DeleteI have been wondering, what was the purpose of the mouth surgery he had. I mean I know the intention was to broad the roof of his mouth area, but why? That really changed the shape of his face. I hope it hasn't given him chronic pain, such an invasive surgery. Prayers that it helped whatever it was supposed to. Love you guys.
ReplyDeleteWell, if you watched the show you would see why he had to have it done.
DeleteI watched the show but I don't remember why he HAD to have it done. What was the medical reason? He went pretty long without it, so why now?
DeleteI'm unable to watch the show, so I don't know why he had it done. So, it also makes me curious as to why he had it done??
DeleteI don't care about the hair at all. But I will say that Derick looked so much better before the braces and mouth surgery.
DeleteLiked him better before the braces!
