Jeremy and Jinger Vuolo; Sheila and Tom Pennington
The Vuolos recently spent time with Tom and Sheila Pennington. Tom is a pastor and teacher in Dallas, Texas, and has worked alongside well-known pastor and author John MacArthur. How many of you have listened to or read teachings from either Tom Pennington or John MacArthur?

I think Jinger looks good with pants on. Good for her to try new things.
ReplyDeleteThe Duggar women wore pants before but they mainly wear skirts. There is a photo somewhere on here of Joy-Anna wearing pants as well.
DeleteIt's not a new thing, she wore pants before she was even married.
DeleteYes
DeleteYeah, it's cool that she's finding her own style and standards!
DeleteNeither Jinger or Joy-Anna ever wore pants in the Duggar home, this is false information. They follow their parents' guidelines in their parents home, and choose their own rules when they leave home. It's not a big deal, so I don't know why people keep saying the Duggar girls wore pants at home.
DeleteAnnie, go back to photos on this blog from 2015. Joy and some of the other girls have wore pants. It's not false information.
DeleteThey wore pants, maybe 1 time? lol I don't think that means anything
DeleteMy goodness, always about the pants. Please, let it go!
DeleteLove this whole family. They are always so encouraging to each other.
ReplyDeleteIn a bible study group right now doing "John MacArthur Bible Study", real challenging eye opener. everyone should do this study. From Canada.
ReplyDeleteLove that Jinger is wearing pants! I have always thought that pants are a lot lore modest than skirts. Glad Jinger seems to enjoy wearing them.
ReplyDeleteYeah she's enjoying it because she wore pants before she was even married, a lot of the girls do. You must be new to this blog.
DeleteIve watched the Duggars forever and besides sledding, I don't remember Jinger ever wearing pants. Does anyone remember the episode where the older girls made skirts so that they could volunteer with the fire department because they would mot wear the uniform slacks.
DeleteWhere do you get this info from? All the Duggar women have stated very clearly they do not wear pants. I have followed the show since the very first episode.
DeleteYes, there was an episode where Jill and Jana made skirts out of pants with Anna's help, went to the firewall and felt embarrassed!
Delete10:55 AM You must had missed some episodes then and you also missed the blog post of Joy-Anna wearing pants a couple years ago.
DeleteJoyanna wore pants with a skirt over them while working out. I don't think that counts. I distinctly remember the girls wearing skirts while riding horses. Very awkward. Pants would have been more appropriate as well as more modest
DeleteI remember that episode. It was so awkward for them!
Delete12.11AM : Joy-Anna wearing pants a few years ago was under a skirt - I've just googled it up. Sometimes it looked like she wore pants the way her denim or navy skirt hung. The only times the girls have worn pants is wearing a ski suit or when they spent a space day at NASA.
DeleteEven the little ones wear legging pants under their dresses. When they're performing on stage I think it spoils the look of their longer pretty dresses with mismatched coloured leggings
underneath. Why not tights it looks prettier and just as modest?
Jinger you rock those pants! ☺
ReplyDeleteJinger looks good in those pants!
ReplyDeleteWe love reading and listening to MacArthur!
ReplyDeleteYes, MacArthur has great Bible commentaries & books!
DeleteSo do we! He's one of the best bible teachers of our time!
DeleteNice to see they are supporting each other and growing closer.
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with either teachings. Good Jeremy is networking and expanding his knowledge.
She is wearing pants? Not that I think there is anything wrong with that but I didn't think pants were modest enough for the girls.
ReplyDeleteThe Duggar women do wear pants. There is a photo from a few years ago of Joy-Anna wearing pants.
DeleteShe and some of the other girls have wore pants before.
DeleteThey've worn pants -leggings- UNDER skirts. I don't remember them ever wearing only pants.
DeleteWait, I was wrong, I just saw a pic of Jinger in black and white Adias workout pants. But they were full length and baggy, not the same as what she's wearing now. I say let her be, if she wants to wear pants let her. The Bible never says it's wrong, since people didn't wear pants in Biblical times.
DeleteAre all these Biblical dress stipulations from the Old Testament?
Delete4:24- The Bible never says we can't wear pants, but it does say, [Let not women wear that which belongs to a man], and vice versa. I myself believe pants belong to men, and skirts and dresses belong to women. Jinger may have new standards since she's married, that's up to her and her husband.

Where did you see that at????
Jenni - how do you feel that Jesus & disciples wore a long robe or simple dress like covering in his day certainly not pants? Just a thought....
DeleteI don't think Jinger's pants belong to her man......they're women's ...
DeleteWhy she's wearing them,,,they are women's clothing....geesh ‼️
I'm sure she didn't have to get permission from Jeremy,
OY vey ❗️...his mother wears pants and probably his sister.....
My Goodness sakes alive....this is getting old...
Jenni -- do a study on pagan practices at the time that verse was written. The fertility cult of that time would have a woman wear the husbands tunic and the man wear the wife's tunic to try to appease the gods and allow them to get pregnant. If you will also notice, the cautions and "rules" in that area of the Bible were all warnings to avoid pagan practices. It is silly to "Americanize" this verse and turn it into a false teaching.
DeleteThanks anon 3:09! I have always said that in order to properly understand the Bible one has to understand the history and culture of the time. I think its great if some women feel that they must wear only skirts and dresses but to put that "law" upon all women saying it is what God wants and what must be done to avoid sin is very very extreme. Its a preference not a commandment.
DeleteYes those are pants Jinger is wearing. Everybody take a breath.
ReplyDeleteShe looks great!
Thank you! Finally someone who agrees with me.
DeleteJinger is so tiny def no baby bump, that should silence the rumors at least until she gets another wrinkle in her shirt. Looking good and rocking another pair of jeans (mrs pennington in pants too). I really hope this is only the start and she can wear cute sun dresses and bathing suits in the summer without being shamed for it by anyone family, friends or fans. I hope she enjoys her new found freedom go Jinger!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for her new found independence!
DeleteThey always had freedom o_O
DeleteSome of the Duggar girls have wore pants.
How can she gain a freedom that she already had? She wore pants before she was married and so have the other girls. You can look on past photos - try 2015.
DeleteAnother wrinkle in her shirt 😂
DeleteIt's so funny because it's so true!
I'm so glad they are waiting for children. Gives them time as a couple. There is no where in God's Word that says birth control is sinful. I am 100% pro-life, and 100% pro-birth control. Yeah Jinger and Jeremy!!
DeleteAnon @ 7.08 and 12.23 she and some of the other duggar girls may have worn pants before but never in public like Jinger has. Only since she married Jeremy has she dared to do so. The no pants rule was put in place by her parents, so if she didn't feel comfortable to wear them them whenever she chose then no she did not have freedom.
Deleteis she wearing pants?!
ReplyDeleteJoy-Anna has before too
DeleteOnly for sports, not for everyday life.
DeleteI haven't listened to Tom Pennington but I'm sure I've heard John MacArthur. I might have books in our collection from both pastors.
ReplyDeleteWould it be possible to pst one of Pastor Jeremy 's sermons one day?
ReplyDeleteJinger and Jeremy are just so sweet looking. They look beautiful together. Happy 6 month Anniversary.
ReplyDeleteI have some problems with John MacArthur's teachings on Calvinism. I believe, and believe the Bible teaches, that salvation is a free gift, and that our sins have been completely paid for by Christ's death on the cross, once we have trusted that He died and rose again to take our sins on Himself, and in turn, give us His righteousness. If I am not mistaken, John MacArthur teaches that you have to do works in order to keep that salvation, which would make me the Saviour (or at least a party to salvation) and not Christ alone. Please see Titus 3:5-7. I know that Titus 3:8 says that a believer should be careful to maintain good works which are good and profitable unto men, but is this verse not talking to those who are already believers (already saved according to verses 5-7) and telling them that they will profit in this life by doing good works, and also profit others who observe their good works? Sorry.... not meaning to be argumentative.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard MacArthur teach you have to maintain works to keep salvation...
DeleteI used to MacArthur's church and have listened to him for many years, and I have heard him say just the opposite.
DeleteIn fact, I was listening to MacArthur on YouTube just last night when he said that even baptism is not required for salvation because it is a "work."
However, he does teach that a tree is known by its fruit.
Hi! I really appreciate your comments, and while I cannot really comment on what John MacArthur teaches, I can comment on your question about what the Bible teaches. I have seen that the word "works" gets used freely in some discussions, and not always in the way God intends in Scripture. I agree that Calvinism has many problems, the root of which is that the philosophy makes God the author of evil/wrong things that occur in life, but in regards to works, I would say that works do not/cannot save us, but that good works are the natural, overflowing response of a heart that has been cleansed, saved, redeemed, and changed by God. When reading the book of Acts (the only book where the plan for sinners being saved is seen in action), it becomes clear that baptism (immersion) is the method God chose for our repentant souls to come in contact with the cleansing blood of Christ (Acts 2:37-41, 8:12-13, 8:36-39, 9:18-19, 10:47-48, 16:15, 16:34, 18:8; 22:16--referenced in Romans 6, Colossians 2:11-15, and 1 Peter 3:21-22). In the epistles (letters to those who are already Christians), the writers regularly make clear that good works are part of the new man we have become once we have been saved and renewed by Christ (some examples: Romans 12:1-2, Ephesians 2:8-10--we are not saved by our works, but we have been prepared through the grace of salvation to walk in them., James 2:14-26, and 1 John). Jesus even says in Matthew 5:16 that our good works should shine, not for our benefit, but that glory may be given to our Father in heaven. So do works save us? No. That is the grace and mercy of God through the cleansing power of the blood of Christ, accessed through baptism as He has planned, but a life that has been redeemed by Him should be overflowing in good works in joy and gratitude to Him and for Him.
DeleteAgree. Well written comment.
DeleteVery well written, TKR!! I agree and God bless!
DeleteThank you, TKR, and other commenters. Perhaps I was not totally correct on what MacArthur teaches. TKR, completely agree that good works are, and should be, the natural overflowing response of a heart that has been cleansed, saved, redeemed and changed by God, and we should strive always to "walk in the Spirit" as such. However, unfortunately we don't always do so, opening ourselves up to the chastening hand of God, which should be the biggest deterrent of all! Regarding baptism, I know we are commanded to be water baptized, but is that not an ordinance, with "saving baptism" being the baptism of the Holy Spirit that takes place at the moment of salvation?
DeleteTKR, you're correct that we should rely only on the Bible, not what any human teacher says.
DeleteI would have to disagree with the interpretation of those verses as requiring baptism for salvation. If a person accepts Christ as Lord and Savior, that person is saved, though we are commanded to be baptized to show the world that we''re now dead to self and following Christ.
Otherwise, prisoners in jail and others who accept Christ and others but are unable to be baptized immediately would not be saved, and we know that is not true.
1 Peter 3:20-21 says, "Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is,eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us(NOT THE PUTTING AWAY OF THE FLESH,but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:"
DeleteCommentary by Holman's KJV study Bible says, "Noah and his family were saved by water,or brought safely through the floodwaters, whereas the wicked were destroyed[Gen.7:22-23]. Baptism in the New Testament corresponds to this Old Testament event in that both involve breaks from past lives and a fresh start and entrance into new life. Water cannot save, but baptism with water does symbolically depict the changed life of a person whose conscience is at peace with God through faith in Christ. That the act of "baptism" is viewed symbolically and does not actually save us is explained by Peter with the words NOT THE PUTTING AWAY OF THE FILTH OF THE FLESH."
There is nothing more precious in life the new beginnings. From the start if two people becoming a family to when a new little ones comes into our lives. Mr. And mrs. Valero congratulations on your 6 month anniversary. You will have many many more.
ReplyDeleteJinger wearing pants is between her and the Lord.
ReplyDeleteI've listened to John MacArthur and I like him. Glad to see a picture of these two! God bless you and yours. We love the Duggars!!
ReplyDeleteI have listen to John MacArther.
ReplyDeleteHi Duggars Jinger and Jeremy should try for a baby.I would like Jinger to have a baby.Marriage is about having children not being single and without children.Jinger u should try for a baby with Jeremy.
ReplyDeleteEventually of course they'll have kids. My parents waited 7 years after getting married-everyone's different, but I don't think your opinion will convince them to have one now.
DeleteWhat?! Marriage is not about having children only!
DeleteWhat awful things to say to someone. Some married people have fertility problems that can't be overcome, you know...
DeleteIm sure they will eventually have children. They are young and there is no rush. Parenting is hard and people should not have children until they are ready.
DeleteWow! How do you knw they're not trying? And regardless, it's their business. Maybe they want to get to know each other first
DeleteIts refreshing to see a duggar married six months and not pregnant. I hope these two wait a while and just enjoy being married and together as a couple. Jinger is young and has plenty of time to become a mom.
DeleteExcuse me?? My husband and I have been married for almost 5 years and we're not rushing to have a baby yet.
DeleteUnfortunately, my parents left a church where the pastor was heavily influenced by John MacArthur's teachings, more so than by the actual Bible. I don't remember specifics, but it was very disturbing to my parents and others in the church who also left.
ReplyDeleteI use the McArthur study Bible! Love his commentaries!
ReplyDeleteJinger and Jeremy look very happy and seem to be enjoying married life, so glad for them! Hunger looks modest and modern in pants. Now if she would only trim those dead ends off her hair. She still looks very pretty though!
ReplyDeleteYay for pants!
ReplyDeleteJeremy and Jinger are the ideal couple. They compliment each other. And it looks like they are going to more church business courses or meetings. Have seen a couple of pics and interviews Jeremy has posted. I hope they continue to grow as a couple.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to modest skirts??
ReplyDeletePants are only immodest when people wear them so tight they look painted on. Jinger ' s are not tight at all. S.
ReplyDeleteThey're certainly tighter than what I wear.
DeleteYou must need a very secure belt then. Her jeans are not tight.
DeleteI agree with you anon 10:44. Ginger's pants look like skinny jeans to me.
DeleteJinger is very slender.
DeleteMy pants don't hug my thighs like that, either. They fall from my waist with wider legs. And I would never wear leggings, or anything that tight.
DeleteWow. Jinger looks happy and normal. Good for her!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy listening to John MacArthur and reading his books! He's been such a blessing in our family's life!
ReplyDeleteQuébec,Canada
I know the Penningtons! We used to attend that church years ago when living in Texas. Still have family and friends there!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see an update on Jeremy and Jinger! Many blessings to them in their ministry.
ReplyDeleteJinger and Jeremy are just so much alike, they look like siblings.
ReplyDeleteI love these two, they are so in love and happy. I'm glad Hunger is doing her own thing and she is a grown up and should decide for herself what to wear and what not to wear. Go Jinger!
ReplyDeleteJinger is so beautiful. She looks so different nowadays. Must be the hair and/or clothes.
ReplyDeleteMore pants !! Looking good Jinger!
ReplyDeleteJinger and Jeremy are such a cute couple! Jinger is beautiful and looks so pretty in pants! Glad to see her dressing as she wants to·
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteDeutoromy 22:5
5 A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this.
So it's a good thing that Jinger is not wearing Jeremy's clothing then. I think God is talking about "cross dressing" in this section. Surely, women's pants, designed for a woman's figure are not considered men's clothing.
Delete@Anonymous 10:24, Then it's a good thing pants are gender neutral and clearly for men, women and children equally! And it's a good thing pants were not worn when that was written!
DeleteI guess a lot of people are detested then. Including myself, who can't wear skirts because I have a condition that has left embarrassing purple bruise-looking marks on my legs. I guess God wants me to go around looking like I've been battered or mauled instead?
DeleteMen technically wore 'dresses', 'skirts' back in the day. Pants didn't exist during biblical times.
DeleteThis is talking about cross dressing. Pants are considered womens' clothing in modern society not just mens'.
DeleteI thought the Lord was all about love!
DeleteSo who makes that determination? When that verse was written everyone wore robes so im not sure this verse hasnt been taken out of context.
DeleteYou do realize that in Bible times, men wore robes?
DeleteDeuteronomy is referring to female impersonation and male impersonation, not just a female wearing pants or a Scottish man wearing a kilt.
You are doing yourself a grave disservice by not studying the Bible in context. You can isolate a verse here and there to support your own beliefs, but unless you study it in context you are not reading and comprehending God's Word.
I think you have to look at the context of this verse. If a man is wearing a dress, that means a totally different thing in our culture than a woman wearing pants. It was necessary for women to wear pants in WW2 factories for safety and that is still true for some jobs today. If a woman is seeking after God and listening to wise counsel and isn't convicted when wearing modest pants, i think it is totally fine.
DeleteShe is not wearing men's clothes. Back in the Bible men and women dressed the same.
DeleteJinger's pants are clearly not cut like a man's pants. When the Bible says not to wear clothes pertaining to a man, it means there should be a clear distinction between what a woman looks like and what a man looks like. Women should not shop in the men's section of the store. Jinger still looks very feminine, and no one would mistake her for a man.
DeleteWhen that was written, no one wore pants. The togas they wore were more similar to skirts/dresses than pants so if you're going to use this verse to try to argue against women wearing pants, you're really just arguing against women wearing skirts and dresses.
DeleteOmg for those who reply to deutoromy 22:5. I think you have to understand God's will in our life first not you own will. We have to pleased God. Be an example to others in all areas, your life, bofy, clothes.you don"t need to study every verse to understand it. Use your logical when you see a women in jeans, pants, shorts you are showing up your figure and you are making others to sin. Skirts looks better in women. I can't agree with your coments. I greed with the bible.
DeleteI agree anon 10:06!!I always tell people to think about bathroom signs, why do they draw a dress for the women, cuz that's what difference they're supposed to have from men!! When the conscience tells women they are wrong in wearing pants, they try to quiet that voice down by the opinions given above. Ladies, if you truly want to know God's will, ask him with a pure heart, and He will answer you, like He did to me. God bless y'all!!
DeleteTight skirts show up a figure more than regular cut pants.
DeletePeople should hold themselves responsible for their sins instead of blaming others.
DeleteI'm not agree with you, first, i'm not muslim. I'm Christian born again. I just to wear pants when I was not a real christian, now that i'm only wear skirts.probably you don't understand it.but when you follow Jesús your life change completely like the way you talk, you dress and everything around you when you follow God.I just hope God can have mercy for everyone and people can turn back to the Lord who loves us so much and wants us to be saved.
DeleteTo anon 10:06 and 12:07, my body is not a liability causing others to sin. My body is a temple to my Lord. The Lord has made it known to me that they are pleased when I wear pants and suits at the meetings and hearings I have in my practice as an attorney for the disadvantaged. I pray that you ask with a pure heart and the Lord will let you know that your body is not a liability.
DeleteFor those who say that in BibliCal times, there weren't pants, and so therefore pants are not a man's clothing, I would say that is partly true. Everyone did wear robes back then, but when pants were developed, they were developed as clothing for men, nor women, and remained so for hundreds of years until fairly recently.
DeleteAlso, although everyone is responsible for their own souls and sins, another can very much contribute to the sin of another in many ways. Provocatch dress can be one of these ways. Is it charitable to our neighbor to dress in such an immodest way as to make it difficult for them to control their thoughts? Skirts can be immodset too if they are too short or tight, and some loose pants can be more modest than those skirts, but in general, pants were seveloped as men's clothing.
Anon @ 10.16 'skirts look better on women' what about kilts? A man in full scottish attire looks fantastic are they breaking the rules with their national dress?
DeleteGood point. Once again. It's just people being legalistic. I know I'm not sinning by wearing pants so I really dont care what others think.BTW, I love to see strong Scotsmen in kilts!
DeleteWe go to Tom Pennington's church. We love it there, and he's an AMAZING teacher and man of God.
ReplyDeleteJohn MacArthur is the man.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are avid listeners to Dr. John MacArthur. We live in St. Louis and we live stream him every Sunday at 12:30pm, after we arrive home from our church. He is the best Bible teacher, a modern day Charles Spurgeon! If you want to live stream him from California, go to Grace Community Church San Fernando Valley and it will come up on Google. Click on live stream and be blessed as he preaches through the Book of Galatians. You can also hear him on GTY.org! God bless John MacArthur! So glad that Jeremy and Jinger appreciate his ministry too! Thank you for wearing slacks Jinger! I wear them too and I love Jesus Christ too. Jinger looks very feminine in them!
ReplyDeleteIMO, the long hair really makes Jinger look young. I think a shorter, more polished hair style would look great for her new role as a pastor's wife.
ReplyDeleteI am blessed to attend CBC where Tom is the senior pastor. I also adore the Duggar family. Love that this photo popped up today!
ReplyDeleteTom is my pastor in Southlake, Texas! He is SOLID - we are so blessed and thankful to have him!!
ReplyDeleteLOL, everybody is so fascinated by Jinger in pants. Her family has never shamed anyone wearing pants, it was repeatedly said the girls decided to do so on their own. Good Lord, do y'all walk down the street and comment on every girl wearing pants? Why is a woman's choice of clothing a judgement about who she is inside, or about her choices? MYOB, sheesh!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have said it better.
DeleteWe love to hear Pastor John MacArthur and download his free series every day. He is currently doing a creation study and his in-depth examination is thought provoking to say the least. We love how biblical his studies are, and his books on the books of the bible are filled with information! A definite must read for Christians who desire to walk closer!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely know about John MacArthur. My husband wanted to go to Masters Seminary but the cost of living in California was not feasible. MacArthur is very conservative but a big step forward from the conservative independent Baptist upbringing Jinger had. I respect both but feel this new direction theologically will be good for her as she grows alongside her husband in ministry.
ReplyDeletejinger's hair is so uneven at the ends. why doesn't she get a simple trim?
ReplyDeleteBoth Dr. MacArthur and Pastor Pennington are excellent expositors of God's Word. You can find a collection Pastor Pennington's messages at The Word Unleashed. https://thewordunleashed.org. Dr. MacArthur = Grace to You
ReplyDeleteThey look great!! Glad they have great mentors for ministry.
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard of them but will check out web sites.
ReplyDeleteCurious what her family members think of her wearing pants now? Hmmmm 🤔 Can the web people comment? Or do they just like to hide?
ReplyDeleteGo Jinger...... she's rocking the pants and shorts these days!!!!! It's about time! Nothing wrong with this attire! I hope to see more Duggar girls doing the same.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are getting ready to move from Arkansas to California for him to go to John MacArthur's seminary.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to California! You're in for some great teaching.
DeleteJohn MacArthur is a great expository preacher.
ReplyDeleteJinger no longer lives under Jim Bob and Michelle's rules. Jeremy is head of the household and if he is happy for her to wear pants then it is okay with her.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, that makes so much sense!
DeleteSo what do single women do who live on their own?
So, she has to follow her husband's rules because he's the head of the household? Yikes! There are plenty of men out there that would be more than willing to take advantage and abuse that that kind of an arrangement.
DeleteI wonder how many future posts with Jinger wearing pants is it going to take for people to stop commenting on them...enough already😬
ReplyDeleteAgreed ! Who's judging who for the clothes they wear?
DeleteLove the pants Jinger! They look so happy!
ReplyDeletePants aren't happy or sad.
DeleteAmanda probably meant
DeleteJinger & Jeremy look happy...😳
Tom Pennington's website is https://thewordunleashed.org Great messages!!
ReplyDeleteNice to see them expanding their surroundings with new ideas and adventures!!! You rock those pants Jinger!! And pants can be more modest then skirts at times!! Keep exploring new ideas !!!
ReplyDeleteJeremy is wearing pants!
ReplyDeleteGood one!
DeleteHaha, good one.
DeleteLol!!
DeleteThat's so funny!
DeleteI love Jinger in pants! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteI've listened to John MacArthur for many years every morning at 6:30 am, he's what I call a "laser" Bible teacher! Great news from Jeremy and Jinger! Praying for God's will for you two!
ReplyDeleteI've heard of John Mac Arthur. I've actually read a book of his and listened to his radio show. He is a very good teacher of the word.
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I were excited to listen to Jeremy's sermons, but realized he is Calvinist. If I remember correctly MacArthur is as well.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a Calvinist? I thought they are Christian?
DeleteCalvanism and Arminianism are two differing Christian theologies. Best to google, because it's hard to explain here. :)
DeleteI think Calvinists believe in predestination ?
DeleteCalvinists hold the TULIP belief system. You can look it up for an explanation.
DeleteA Calvinist is one who holds a certain set of beliefs in the Christian faith. It doesn't exactly agree with what the Duggars show as their set of beliefs.
DeleteCalvijn was a reformer after Luther. The difference between his teachings and Luthers is that Calvijn said you can disagree with your leader, as long as he disobeyed God, and Luther said the king is the head of the church and for that, you can't oppose him. The people who agree with his teachings are called calvinists. Calvijn preached to live as sober as possible, as Jesus had nothing at all and we should live in his example (which the roman catholic church clearly didn't back then). Calvinism is especially important in the Netherlands, most churches are calvinistic overhere. In other countries calvinism is present, but not the dominant denomination.
DeleteShe looks amazing in pants, happy for her.
ReplyDeleteShe looks great no matter what she wears, I am so happy for her little family, God Bless them!
ReplyDeletePerhaps some of the posters here don't realize that wearing 'pants' under a skirt doesn't count as wearing pants. If these are LADIES/WOMEN'S/GIRL'S cut clothing, they are NOT men's clothing or attire. Nothing sinful about it.
ReplyDeleteJinger and Jeremy certainly don't need to rush in to being parents soon after marriage. Marriage is not JUST FOR children, it's for two newlyweds to know each other FIRST and be comfortable with each other before adding another innocent person in the mix of all this.
And this is where the divergent thought comes in: I am a faithful Catholic. For most of the world's history, marriage has been for the begetting of children to build families...who will know God, love God, and serve God all our days. Only until very recently in history was the concept of contra (against)-Ception introduced. It started in the 1930s...and even then...it divided many churches...and families. Literally. Pope Paul VI prophetically predicted that with the advent of contraception, the world would see a rise in domestic abuse (because now women could be used by men without the "consequence" of a child; a rise in sex-trafficking (because again, women and children can be objectified without "consequences"; and a rise in abortion and pornography addictions. And so...I ask you...and anyone else...what is the true purpose of marriage? "But...shouldn't a couple get to know each other?", you counter. "But...x, y, z." If a couple isn't "comfortable" with the other and still needs to "get to know" the other, they were not ready for marriage. If a couple has grave reasons for needing to postpone due to health, extreme situations, etc...then Natural Family Planning is an ethical way to postpone for a time...but never is the purpose of marriage to be lost. Marriage builds families; families build societies; and societies build our world. Please look into your heart of hearts and really pray about the purpose of marriage before giving advice to a couple, implying they should postpone the greatest treasures of a marriage.
DeleteAnonymous 5:55 PM
DeleteWell, that's your way of thinking, but there are so many people who don't want to have children or can't have children and still want to get married and/or are married. Is that so hard to understand?
Everyone has free will and can do whatever they please. Also, contraception has other uses.
Well said!
Delete5:55- First of all, birth control and abortion have a long and well-documented history that goes back to ancient times. Secondly, I thoroughly disagree with your conclusion that contraception has brought about such dire consequences. (You have no credible research to back up your theory, other than a prediction from a pope.) Quite the contrary, desperate pioneer women with no access to birth control cut their lives short bearing one child after another. My own great-grandmother finally made her husband sleep in the barn as a precaution. My desperate grandmother nearly died from a self-inflicted abortion.
DeleteToday, there is no shortage of domestic abuse that involves the very children that are supposed to be such a blessing.
Having children should never be a requirement of marriage for the simple reasons that not everyone wants to have them or are not in a position to adequately care for them. Your opinion on the matter is just that, an opinion and just one of countless differing Biblical interpretations by many different people. Each individual has to decide what's best for themselves. That's why I will never belong to any religious organization.
If you are a Catholic and opposed to contraception, you are free to follow those beliefs. To suggest that it is unethical for others to practice birth control is completely out of line. That's the problem with organized religion. As evident in some of the comments on this blog, with even something as superficial as clothing choices, too many think their way is the right way.
DeleteThank you Anonymous 5:55 Pope Paul VI's prophetic statement is evident and has completely consumed our culture. The responses here are consistent within modern society among both professing Christians and non.
DeleteAnonymous @5:55, I completely agree!
DeleteAbortion rates are not on the rise. In fact, they've been declining every decade since Roe v Wade and have now dropped to its lowest level since 1973. Prior to the Supreme Court ruling, there was no way to accurately determine the number of abortions because the procedure was illegal and most were never reported.
DeleteRegarding the opinion that the goal of marriage should be to have children, I'd like to think that my identity as a woman and human being is defined by a whole lot more than my reproductive capabilities. There's no shortage of people in the world. Without effective contraception, the earth would be in a heap more trouble than it already is.
The only reason Jinger wearing pants seems like a big deal to posters is because it IS a big deal to the Duggars. This family has gone on record, many times, specifically explaining why it is that they wear ONLY shirts and NO shorts, capris OR pants. It's this family that made it a big deal. Normally, no one would have given that a second look or thought about it.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree.
DeleteThere's been enough of the comments that say Joy Anna wore pants once and thus the girls have the ability to wear pants. I think that doesn't need to be said again. Having 1 picture of Joy and Jinger wearing pants 1 time in their lives doesn't mean they have the ability to wear pants all the time. I don't think the girls really choose to wear pants, they are just abiding by the rules. And they probably only say that because they don't want to go against the fold. Why else would Jinger say that she chooses to only wear skirts, and then as soon as she gets married start wearing pants?
ReplyDeleteI meant to type "skirts", not SHIRTS... on 4/24 @ 2:56PM.
ReplyDeleteExcuse the typo.
I agree with you. I think it is the same poster repeating themself over and over!
ReplyDeleteLily & Ely what is your & the Duggars opinion about Jinger wearing pants. Just curious. Not that i see anything wrong, but We also like to here from you guys.
ReplyDeleteEllie wears jeans, so I don't see how she would have a problem with Ginger wearing pants.
DeleteI don't know how many times I have encountered what I thought was a "man" but turns out that was a woman, especially seniors, who have short hair cut. It gets harder to tell them apart in the winter when both senior men and women wear jackets and pants, hard to tell which is a man and which is a woman especially if you are standing behind them!
ReplyDeleteThats ok. They probably don't have a lot of money to dress differently. Also, after a certain age, I'm sure comfort is the main consideration. I doubt God will be judging them.
DeleteI need to excuse myself from the conversation about pants skirts vs. pants. I've had enough of this petty issue, which means NOTHING to the Lord.
DeleteI am a Catholic Christian and I understand building families through marriage and all. I agree with that. What I don't agree with is losing sight of what one can handle. We are all different and marrying then continually having children every year for 25-30 years isn't necessary to have a Godly home and built a family. Many good, Christian families had and have far less than 20 children and they all do well. There are 'approved methods' of avoiding conception during every marital encounter. Some women and men can't handle having so many children. It is also a good time for the newlyweds to get to know each other. Why rush through things? For people like the Duggars, once they get the 'ok' from their father to court someone, it's like a fast roller coaster to major life changes and a new baby. All the newness and thrill of life is accelerated to quickly, IMO. This is my opinion. To each his/her own. I don't think it proper to pressure someone TO have children right away either. We are all different as God created us to be.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's the same poster here posting multiple times as I didn't post many of these comments.
Agree anon 2:28.
DeleteAmen.....thank you. 😐
DeleteIf Jessa is wearing pants because SHE decided for herself, that's wonderful. I cannot fathom an adult woman being required to have the approval of her parents or husband on wardrobe choices.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, your comment is spot on! My young college professor neighbor married into an Islamic family (both she and her husband professed Christianity though). As I was leaving one day, I heard the visiting mother-in-law pressuring her to veil up, telling her "how beautiful it makes me feel" and more. Months later, I encountered my neighbor at the mailbox and commented that I liked her fall-colored outfit. She beamed as she informed me that her father-in-law bought all her clothes and I noted that she was correctly covered down to her wrists and her ankles. She apparently thought allowing him to choose her clothing was a sign of the family's approval of her. We were horrified that this outgoing, vibrant, intelligent young lady was being conditioned like that. We sadly wondered how soon she'd be veiling up or sporting a burqua.
DeleteJinger.
DeleteI think JINGER did decide herself, what she wanted to wear!
DeleteOn the other hand ,
I do wonder how JESSA feels about Jinger's choice .......
There sure is a lot of back-and-forth about those pants- The Bible says this, or this verse says that- Good grief! Perfect example of how everyone has their own take on the Scriptures and will make stuff up just to feel holy.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. That's the flaw with the Protestant idea of "private interpretation". More like misinterpretation...
DeleteI'd say this flaw is not limited to Protestants.
DeleteI agree 8:05
DeleteI think a ministers wife looks more respectable in a skirt. A couple just looks better that way. Him in pants and she in skirts. And it's respect to herself and to others. I think they need to set the example for the rest of us. Jinger looked so nice and decent looking in skirts. So disappointed with her change with Especially being a ministers wife.
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 4.45 clothes do not define who you are as a person and do not effect your relationship with God. I think in this day and age it is good and makes people feel more comfortable if a minister and his wife dress the same as everyone else. At some churches in my area you will see people in dresses, jeans, casual and smart outfits all in the same congregation, the fact they are there worshipping is the most important part. The only example a minister and his wife need to set is as good and loving christians who do not judge others especially on petty issues such as clothes.
DeleteNot agree with God cares about everything around you. He sees inside and outside. So I don't think so. You are wrong.
Delete4:45: Whether or not a woman wears pants or skirts does not make a particle of difference to me. People earn my respect by how they treat others, not by their wardrobe choices.
DeleteSo, I guess that poster is implying that the other pastor's wife doesn't look respectable because she, too, is wearing pants? Folks, that's ridiculous. This also solidifies the Duggar skirt requirements for the females as unnecessary. I agree that one should be able to wear whatever they wish.
ReplyDeleteI am very familiar with Tom Pennington.
ReplyDeleteHe is a very good bible expositor. He is also a humble man by God's grace.
Man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart.
