Baby Forsyth #2 is Past Due

Joy and Austin Forsyth are on baby watch! Their daughter's due date was yesterday, which means she could literally arrive at any time. How adorable is this photo of the pregnant mama and her son, who will be two-and-a-half in three days?

  3. I hope her birth goes well and it is nothing like the last one. I still don’t get why her midwife suddenly realized that Gideon was breech after 20 hrs of labor. I also don’t get how they didn’t realize how big he was, I thought you could measure that from when they’re in the womb? I don’t know much about the topic at all so please correct me if I’m wrong but I feel like Joy could’ve had better care last time.

    1. It isn't an exact science. I'm also not sure how they missed him being breech -- seems like heartbeat would have been in a different place? From my own experience with a big baby, they thought he was average sized just by feeling my belly. I was having scans for something else when they measured him and thought he was going to be "big" (estimated 9lb at 40 weeks). Because I went two weeks over with my first we decided to induce the day after my due date -- turns out he was already 11lb, not 9! So that part of it can be really tricky, even with ultrasounds.
He was also breech until 30 something weeks and they knew when he had flipped, but I suppose that could be tricky too in some cases.

    2. When my mother had her first child, she was told she would need a C-section if he was over 6 lbs (she had heart problems). When she arrived at the hospital, holding her robe over her arm in front of her, the nurse asked "Where's the mother-to-be?" Mom replied, moving her robe aside, "I guess that would be me." The nurse exclaimed, "Oh my, we'd better get the incubator ready for this tiny baby." After labouring for however long, she delivered, without a C-section, a whopping 9 pounder. Moral of the story is, the weight and size of a baby can only be definitively measured post-birth. Before that, a guess is a guess, is a guess. Often it is in the ball park, but not always.

    3. I’m OP, I realized I shouldn’t have said “last time”, because that was Annabell and not Gideon. I’m so sorry, I messed up. My questions about her first birth still stand though.

    4. No you can't measure how much a baby weighs. You can get an estimate from ultrasound but it's usually way off. And yes yo u can tell when they are breech. They just tend to hire careless midwives who allow them to labor for days on end and put them in danger.

    5. I’m not sure but my midwives and doctors always knew the position of all 6 of my babies before I ever went into labor. With that being said, things can change last minute... even with large babies. I have heard stories of babies turning during labor... both ways... from breech to head down and from being head down to then flipping breech. It may have just been one of those situations where he turned during labor and once they realized it they made the proper adjustments to get her the help she needed. Either way, I’m glad Joy and Gideon pulled through and praying for a safe delivery and recovery for Joy and this little one!

    6. It's not an exact science but they usually get closer to the correct estimate with measurements and scans. My goddaughter's soon was due late March. In February the at a reg visit the doctor decided to order an immediate scan. The boy measured over 9lbs so the doctor scheduled her for a cesarean 3 weeks before her due date. When the baby was born, he weighed 10 lbs 4oz. Did said he was trying to about a 10lb baby but was glad that baby and mom were fine. That boy is 11 years old and is already 5'5".
So, yeah, I'm thinking they could've done a better job estimating to available the emergencies. I truly understand wanting to do it "natural" and at home, but there's no Shane in using the advantages of modern medicine, which is the route they took this time. My heart goes out to them and I'm happy mommy and baby girl are doing well.

  9. Most of these girls think nothing of going past their due dates or trying to deliver huge babies at home. It's scary.

    1. She's discussed this on her you tube channel and she is having a hospital birth for this baby

    2. There is nothing wrong with going past your due date.

      Delete
    3. @8:17 there is nothing wrong going a few days over your due date. Gideon was a large baby, this baby may also be large....I think Joy was hoping to VBAC, the risk of complications increases with a large baby. Let's hope she goes into labor on her own in the next few days and has a happy healthy baby.

    4. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynos doesn't agree with 8:17.

    5. All 5 of my kids were 41+ weeks , delivered naturally! Very normal and common ! Explains why my 4 girls were 9 pounds and my son 11 pounds lol !

      Delete
    6. 8:41, due dates are not always accurate. I would think ACOG would know that.

      Delete
    7. 8:41, there is nothing magical - or scientific- about the due date. It's sometimes inaccurate. Nothing bad automatically happens if a baby is born the day after the due date or even a week after. It's very much on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes there are reasons why it's decided a mom should have the baby before the due date, but there is NO hard and fast rule that all should follow. The OP said that it was "scary" that they think nothing of having their babies past the due date, but it's not "scary."

  14. If I were Joy, I would go Jinger's route - get induced a week before due date so that the baby is not huge. I hope though the baby comes soon!

    1. She actually did talk about induction on her YouTube channel but I thought it would’ve happened before her due date and it didn’t.

      Delete
    2. It's better to try to go into labor naturally than induce.

      Delete
    3. 8:17, that’s true but not all women can deliver very large babies so sometimes people make the choice to deliver a week early which is still safe for the baby and can avoid a csection

      Delete
  15. She looks identical to Jana on that picture! Except for the the belly :)

  16. A beautiful picture. I hope she has a good delivery. Gideon is cute!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Will Joy be induced when a week passes ? Since she is going to a Dr. ? Unlike other Duggar daughters ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. She can’t be induced because she’s had a Caesarian section. There is a danger of uterine rupture.

      Delete
    2. She should be induced before one week as she said in her you tube channell that she will be induced at forty weeks so the baby won't get as big as Gideon when he was born,so I presume in the next few days if she doesn't go into labour spontainously.

      Delete
    3. 11:38 PM - women do deliver naturally after a c-section. Also, baby Annabell was 20 weeks already when they discovered she passed, so Joy had to deliver her as well.

  28. Cute photo but I wouldn't sit that toddler on an unborn child. Poor thing her foot and leg look swollen so I hope baby comes soon. But my guess is actually that the baby has already arrived by now and they are bust doing a magazine shoot before making the big announcement. Let's all guess on a name!

    1. For one thing, she's supporting him with her hand. He isn't putting his full weight on the baby. For another, the baby is securely protected in the womb.

  31. I wish her a fast labor and healthy baby! I was wondering also why with Gideons birth they didn’t realize he was breech for so long, I thought they could tell with ultrasound and also midwives can usually tell just by feeling down there or feeling the stomach. That was interesting to me. I hope she has a better experience this time! But every labor and birth is different.

  32. I hope her delivery is without complication. Observation - the outfits the pregnant duggar girls wear are not always modest. There is no reason to wear such form fitting clothing when you are pregnant, but they consistently wear such items. Joy-Anna's dress if very snug, and it is more than likely a bit see through. It seems hypocritical to claim modesty, and then dress in such a manner.

  35. 2.55. Any descent midwife can estimate a baby’s birth weight & position before birth. The birth weight won’t likely be spot on but will usually be to within 1-1.5 pounds of the delivery size. As for the position, it’s a lot different to feel the bottom of a breech baby to that of the baby’s head. I couldn’t understand how those two vital things were missing with Gideon’s delivery. I wish joy Anna every blessing for a safe & quick delivery & that all goes well for mum & baby. If ever a couple deserved an easy time it’s these two. Good luck with everything Joy.

    1. People don’t typically count their deceased children, that doesn’t make them hypocrites🙄 I have a friend who has had eight miscarriages and three loving children, do you think she should go around saying that she has 11? I also went to church with a woman when I was fourteen who had three living children and then had lost her third baby very far into her pregnancy, she would always say that she had four children which led to many embarrassing situations when others would ask where their other child was.

      Delete
    2. You could say either 2 or 3 and be accurate. This is the second child who will be living in their family. It doesn't negate the fact that she has given birth to 3, and she certainly didn't choose to lose the second one.
