Jana Duggar on Life and Marriage

Jana Duggar on life and marriage
Jana Duggar

"The great thing about Jana is that she's an entrepreneur. She doesn't wait and sit around for anything. This girl keeps us all busy. And so, if it weren't for her, half the projects around here wouldn't get done."
-Michelle Duggar (interview with Us Weekly)

The new season of Counting On premieres in just three days. Some of the Duggars shared life updates with Us Weekly during virtual interviews. Alongside Michelle Duggar, Jana Duggar spoke about her life as a single lady and her desire to be married. Her faithful mama jumped in with words of praise about her eldest daughter. 1. I'm tired of Jana claiming she "wants to be married". If that was true she would have married one of all these suitors she is supposed to have had.

    1. Not if none of them felt right to her.

    2. Maybe, just maybe she wanted to be in love; not just married.

      Delete
    3. Obviously all of the other suitors were not the special Mr. Right for her. There’s nothing wrong with waiting for the one that God has for you, and not settling for second best.

      Delete
    4. That's false. She's not rushing, and when she meets the man God wants her with, it will happen. She knows that marriage is serious and she's not going to marry just for the sake of getting married.

      Delete
    5. @10:32- So, if she never finds Mr. Right, does that also mean God didn't intend for her to get married? Or if she should get married, but ends up divorced, did Jana make the wrong pick or did God? I just don't agree with that logic at all. I don't think God causes things to happen to us, good or bad. Stuff happens, sometimes by chance or circumstance, and often by our own choices we make in dealing with them.

    1. They feel the need to supervise her in case she says something that doesn’t fit with their brand. Sad, really.

    2. 5:24 So ridiculous, at her age she is still under the supervision of her parents! I've gone from feeling sad to being angry at how limited Jana's life has been. She is a grown woman who needs to take control of her own life.

    3. US weekly interviewed Michelle about having 19 grandchildren (here or on the way) in the same sitting. Jana was sitting next to her for that interview. Michelle was not "supervising" her. They just clipped the interviews to make 2 stories posted a few days apart. They also interviewed Jinger and Jessa. I am 28 and still single, along with 5 sisters aged 30 to 20. We live at home so we can save up money on a downpayment for a house out here in expensive CA. We all went to college and most are working full time. We haven't met anyone interesting despite being "out" in the world. God's timing is God's timing. You can't rush it. I empathize with Jana as people are always asking us why we aren't married as all of our friends tied the knot years ago. Her interviews encourage me to stay positive and use my single years wisely instead of letting nosy people make me feel like there's something wrong with me!

    4. Maybe she wanted her mom with her. She's not one who loves the spotlight.

      Delete
    5. @8:52 If she doesn't want the spotlight, then she's going to have to go full-out Derick and leave the show the way he did.

      Delete
    6. 12:49- You didn't make clear how much time you spend "out" in the world, but sometimes you've just got to take the bull by the horns, so to speak, and make things happen. The more people you meet and the more you put yourself out there in lots of different situations, the greater the chances you'll find that special someone. In the job-hunting world, I believe it's called "networking." I think it applies
here. If there is a God, I'd expect he'd want us to make our own opportunties and happiness and not wait on his "timing".

  3. Michelle is saying that Jana is the only one in that household with any drive to get work done? Wow.

    1. Probably true. Kind of sad when you think about it.

    2. No,Michelle is saying that there are so many projects to get done that it would be difficult to get them all done now that there are eight children less to help out,and is praising Jana on her taking over her sister's jobs,I'm sure the boys are taking over the married brothers jobs but there more older boys but Jana is the only adult daughter left to help with projects.

      Delete
    3. Anon 4:27. I don't think Michelle needs a "translator". It was pretty clear that Jana has more drive and initiative than the rest of the family.

      Delete
    4. It seems she gets her drive and initiative from her parents, but maybe she's more organized when it comes to seeing a project to completion. I have a relative like that who can effortlessly plan out the details of a plan and motivate you to completion.

  4. Every time Counting On starts a new season, they trot Jana and the courting/marriage issue out as click bait to get the numbers up. How many times are they going to use her? How many times is she going to keep letting them use her? How many times are fans/viewers going to keep falling for this? Exercising my free will here and won't be clicking on the link for Us Weekly-not a godly publication promoting family values or any moral values for that matter. Not buying that same old line that the Duggars are taking paychecks from rag publications "to promote Christ and somebody may get saved because of their interviews" either. As Jesus said, what do light and dark have in common?

  5. If Jana really wants to get married, she's going to have to settle for someone that isn't "Mr. Perfect". I'm sure JB can find a suitable guy for her.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Maybe Jana has watched some of her siblings marry young and not develop there own interests. She seems content.....I think it's everyone out here in the fan realm that thinks she needs to hurry up and get married. If she doesn't want to get married it would be hard for her to say that considering her family's expectations.

      Delete
    2. Exactly, she wants a man that her parents are not ok with. So she stays at home. Lot of freedom, no stress, she can do what she wants.

      Delete
  6. Poor Jana. There is so much speculation by the public as to why she's not married that she must be feeling some embarrassment or pressure. I think all the rumors that she's secretly gay or just the family babysitter or she's forced to live at home by JB and Michelle are just ridiculous. Not everybody finds their true love so easily, and I do believe Jana would sincerely like to find a good husband. It will happen when the time is right. In the meantime, I don't see anything wrong with her living with her family. She seems to be enjoying a happy life.

    1. @11:39,and that guy in Nepal happened to have hit it off with Jill, doesn't mean JB force other guys to hit it off with Jana, that would be arranged marriage but obviously the family don't do arranged marriages like some people accuse, all Jim Bob can do is introduce, let them socialice and eventually Jana will find someone she clicks with, but that's going to happen spontainously not forced, was it forced with any of the other children when they found the one,you can't expect everyone to find the one at the same age.

  12. Dear US Magazine,
I have a good idea. Why don’t you find the oldest daughter of a family of 19 children, a daughter who is beautiful, faithful, creative and smart. Make certain you find one who isn’t married but has four younger sisters who are. This girl should be a member of a family where marriage and children are the most important thing a daughter can aspire to. When you find such a girl, sit her down, with her mother, and interview her for a national magazine and blog about not being married yet. That won’t put her on the spot or embarrass her or cause readers to feel awkward for her at all.

    2. The magazine didn't kidnap Jana or force her to give an interview. The interviewer also didn't create the family dynamic where a mother has to monitor what her 30 year old daughter says.
Jana chose to promote the new season of Counting On. She is an adult and can refuse to answer any questions she views as invasive. Those questions aren't anything new since she has already talked at length about it on the show.
The show producers won't let up on the fact that Jana is single. The viewers are partly responsible because people are constantly asking if she is courting or why she isn't married. The show and media wouldn't care if there wasn't an audience for it. I don't know if it is because they've run out of things for Jana to do. Showcasing her garden, throwing other people parties, decorating siblings' homes, and painting with her younger sisters only holds the audience's attention so long.
I just hope Jana is content and isn't embarrassed. I agree that Jana is everything that you describe and deserves someone who cherishes her.

      Delete
    3. Please remember that both Jana AND Michelle agreed to do that interview and both Jana AND Michelle got paid very well for that interview. I'm done feeling sorry for Jana. She's not being exploited by her family or TLC. She's capitalizing financially on viewer/fan interest and their emotional investment in the the Duggars and her specifically. Michelle spoke the truth when she said Jana was an entrepreneur.

      Delete
    4. 12:09 Does she really strike you as a girl eager to sell her privacy for some capital? She doesn't to me. There's a lot of "almost" eye rolls whenever she has to answer questions on camera. Plus she's probably not seeing that capital herself anyway.

      Delete
    5. @12:09 Anonymous If Derick can be believed, all payment for appearances and interviews goes through Jim Bob. Remember, Derick said that he and Jill were "unpaid volunteers."

      Delete
    6. Jana then needs to put her foot down and refuse to answer relationship questions.

She is being compensated in some way. Jana frequently travels and has money for a number of hobbies. Apple watches and Birkenstocks are also expensive. The money for all of this is coming from somewhere.

  15. As with so many words, including their famous misuse of the word “modesty,” this is not what entrepreneur means. Championing home projects is not entrepreneurship by any proper definition of the word.

    3. Jana Duggar filed paperwork last year in April to start a business in Arkansas. It is called Arbor Acres Group LLC. It is in good standing in Arkansas. Her last project was renovating an old schoolhouse. Jana is a business owner. A quick search on the internet would of informed you of this. "if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. Therefore, if the light within you has turned into darkness, how great is that darkness!"

Enterprise-a project undertaken or to be undertaken, especially one that is important or difficult or that requires boldness or energy. (All from dictionary website)

      Delete
    5. 12:18 The only thing an internet search turns up is that she has a business. Nowhere is there a discription of it or what kind of business it is. There's no website, either, and it's been over a year. One would assume, being she's a Duggar, that Jana is involved in some kind of house-flipping operation. Her siblings helped out quite a bit with the old school house. It's very likely that JimBob is behind this venture.

  16. It would be nice if Jana did get married. However, she needs to be more independent of her overwhelming parents and get her own place in order to have that happen.

    4. Personally, I do not have an issue, with these birthday/anniversary posts. I would much rather see a random "good wishes," post, than a lot of negative comments, about the various members, of the Duggar Family. Let's leave it up, to Lily & Ellie, to decide which comments, will, or will not, appear on their blog.

    5. I can’t believe someone has every birthday scheduled, then waits until the blog post just before the day. That’s a pretty shallow life if you spend time doing that. I don’t think it’s just a reminder. I think the poster wants us to know he/she knows everyone’s birthdays. If they really wanted good wishes for the birthday person, they would post on the actual birthday where it might be read by the birthday person.

    3. Why do you think she's turned off the idea of marriage? It's not something you just decide to do by yourself. Obviously she hasn't met anyone she wants to marry.

    4. OP I get what you're saying. I feel there's more to the story of Jana staying single than the family has addressed. More hush-hush going on behind the scenes between these ridiculous 'why are you still single' tv and magazine interviews.

      Delete
    5. Maybe she has met the "right" person....but her family doesn't approve🤷

      Delete
    6. Finding someone you want to marry you, who also wants to marry you can take quite awhile. It can take even longer if they're marrying your in-laws too, as the Duggar couples seem to have trouble individuating from Michelle & Jim Bob and seem tied to the "Big House" (every Monday night is a family night for the married couples to come over and Mom & Dad doing marriage counseling/marriage quizzes and challenges). They're also marrying your siblings and all the nieces and nephews, as Jim Bob and Michelle are very big on the family being the hub around which all their adult children lives revolve too. The ongoing slew of family events and activities all year long (including the all-family vacations multiple times a year) scream "over-involved family" to prospective suitors. Top that off with marrying a TLC film crew and it's no wonder Jana isn't married yet. She may have met Mr. Right, but he didn't want to marry her because of everything else that comes with marrying Jana. Unlike Jinger, Jana isn't likely to actually leave the family and move to another state (just her and her husband) and have no contact for 6 months so they can establish their own relationship and foundation.

      Delete
    7. Anon 12:58. I agree with your assessment. No man Jana's age is going to put up with the situation that we see going on in the Duggar family. Derrick opted out and that's why he's unwelcome at the "Big House".

      Delete
    8. Anon 12:58. Look at what happened with Jill. I think Derrick expected to spend their lives serving in the mission field with Jill and NOT living in the bosom of her family. When the missionary thing didn't work out and he took steps to be independent it has led to a good deal of estrangement. I have a feeling that Jana is NEVER going to find a man who is willing to be under JB and Michelle's thumb.

      Delete
    9. @8:11 That should be a big sign to the parents. You're ruining your daughter's chance at happiness by insisting that she lives at home until married, yet you're making those marriage chances go down by how you sell your privacy and how you expect your kids and their spouses to sell your brand along with you. This is godly, wholesome, or admirable? Or distorted self-admiration and an intense desire for wealth at any cost to your family, including your children's happiness? Maybe Derick has it right...

      Delete
    10. It seems like the estrangement has more to do with money than anything else. Derick has stated recently that they weren't appropriately compensated and blames Jim Bob. The Dillards would have continued to appear on the show and play nice with Jim Bob if they were paid for their appearances on the show.

      Delete
  29. I found this interview to be very awkward. It's time for Jana to draw the line and say, "No more marriage questions!" Not sure why Michelle was part of it- she sounded like she was bragging up Jana as one would on a dating site. Big deal- she's not married. Life will go on.

  30. My mom did not get married until she was 38 years old. She went on to have four of us by the time she was 43. If it is what Jana wants, she will find the right person. If it is not, she is talented enough to figure things out to enable her to have a good life.

  31. Sometimes I believe God wants us to spread our wings a little to get out in the world to meet someone. I hope Jana is doing this, verses staying home all the time to garden or do projects. You won’t have as many opportunities to meet someone. I believe in waiting for Mr. Right, but there is no perfect human being on this earth, we all have our flaws. I hope Jana isn’t seeking perfection in a husband, because then she might miss out on getting to know a really good man.

    1. Good question @7:37. Since Michelle's no longer having babies, she should have time to be doing things around the house. Ben is teaching the kids too, further relieving any work load from Michelle's shoulders. So what does she do all day? Housewives don't get to retire. It's the nature of the job.

    2. Who said she does all the home projects, she does get help from Michelle now just like she got help from Michelle and her sisters in the past.

    3. "Float through the house, solving issues that the buddy can't handle"-or at least that's what she told us in the "14-19 Kinds and Counting" years. ;)

    4. Michelle has 13 people living in the house; her and Jim Bob, 4 younger girls, 6 boys (Jackson, Justin, James, Jason, Jer and Jed) and Tyler. Seems like Jer and Jed, both 21, also have some house/apartment in town, and maybe they stop to have a dinner from time to time. Jason has own business and building houses. I'm sure that the rest of the boys and girls can obviously clean their rooms, and most probably have chores of cleaning and cooking, not to employ their 53 year old mother go around with a vaccuum or a broom. Michelle probably goes grocery shopping with kids. She has 8 children married with own families, so I'm sure she visits with them too.

    5. Anon 8:31 Jana gets help from Michelle? Shouldn't it be the opposite?

  36. Let’s all stop the “Will Jana Marry or Not”!! Personally I don’t think she wants to. She seems stuck up or think she is better than everyone and knows everything. She seems like a hard person to get to know the “Real Jana”

    1. I don't think we know any of the Duggars very well. All we see is what they present on the TV show and in interviews. As for marriage, it's not a one way street as it involves two people who decide they want to share their lives. Some of the posters seem to think that Jana can just acquire a husband at will.

  37. I thought Michelle's sales pitch was awkward and unnecessary. Jana has been showcased many times and we all know about her talents and skills.

    1. Are you sure all a smart beautiful lady of 30 wants to do is babysit for her parents and siblings?

    2. Jana comes across as rather sold on herself. I think she enjoys her status in the family as being "talented, skilled" and looked up to. With her attitude, I doubt she'll ever marry.

  39. I’m bored with the “is Jana going to marry” question. Let’s refresh it: “is Jana ever going to move out on her own?”

    1. I'd say neither one is going to happen. Marriage isn't a one way thing. Jana would have to meet a man SHE wants to marry and who wants to marry her. Personally, I wouldn't marry into this overpowering family for all the tea in China. I think these endless weekly "family fun nights", group camping trips, marriage "retreats", whole family vacations and date nights where you have to take a quiz from JB and Michelle are way too much for normal people to want to deal with.
