Duggar Co-Pilot on the Way

John and Abbie Duggar
A Duggar co-pilot is on the way. You can probably guess that that means--John and Abbie Duggar are expecting!

"I'm really looking forward to having a little one around," says John-David Duggar in the couple's TLC announcement video. "I mean, I'm really just thrilled." You can visit the Duggars' website to watch the video and view the announcement photos.

John and Abbie just wrapped up their time in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, at the EAA AirVenture air show, an event that the Duggars attend annually.

John and Abbie have not yet announced Abbie's due date, but this little Duggar will be Jim Bob and Michelle's 17th grandchild.

  3. We get it, John is a pilot.
Why do they have to bring it up in all that they do? Why don’t Abbie’s interests get that much attention?

    1. I think Abbie, although I’m certain she has many interests and gifts, appears to love being in the plane with John. That’s a good thing because their wedding was totally flying-themed based. Flying seems to be a venture they share.

    2. And why are you complaining about something so trivial, especially at such a joyous announcement.

      Delete
    3. I am sure if Abbie had an opinion about such things she would voice it. Happy wife, happy life.

    4. She seems to like it. Maybe she has been working on her private pilot's license? Who knows?! I am a pilot (female) and a fellow pilot married a nice girl and she like it so much that she got her license, too, so they could do some nice trips together.

  4. Amazing news for John and Abbie!
I wonder how Joy feels when they start numbering grandchildren. She was supposed to have #14, and Lauren #17, and now after her miscarriage the count is still 17. Now Kendra will have #14. I think Joy will try having another baby real soon.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well Lauren was supposed to have baby #14 originally, but then she lost baby Asa. I don’t think any of them are offended not to have their babies in the count of living grandchildren.

      Delete
    2. Joy’s still birth was so sad. But the way you put numbers on each grandchild, noting that one child will get the number that would originally go to Joy’s baby seems totally wrong somehow. Of course no baby can ever replace the child lost, but you can grieve for someone and still rejoice for another. Bemoaning who gets what number just seems a bit strange.

      Delete
    3. This is yet another reason why referring to people by numbers is not a good idea. If you use names, there is no "Should Have Been # So-and-so."

      Delete
  5. Not a big surprise. I hope everything goes well for them.

  6. Yeah, it's not like we all didn't see that coming!

  7. Wonderful news! Congrats John and Abbie. So happy for you both. I would want to count Annabell though, and say this is the 18th grandchild coming, and not the 17th. Annabell was 20 weeks gestation, and was born, held, photographed, and probably had to be buried, and I feel that she deserves to be counted.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Only the Duggars can decide how they refer to their children/grandchildren. Annabell's heart stopped beating in the womb similar to Jubilee. Jim Bob and Michelle seem to count live births when referring to how many children they have as they haven't counted Jubilee as their 20th child. They also don't include Caleb. Anna also doesn't include the miscarriage between Meredith and Michael when discussing how many children she has.

      Delete
    2. A baby lost at 20 weeks doesn’t “count more” than baby lost at 8 weeks, so if they were going to do all that they would also need to include Anna’s baby whinshe lost after McKenzie, and Lauren’s baby Asa.

      Delete
    3. That’s your opinion

      Delete
    4. Why isn't every unfertilized egg a lost baby too? They all could have been babies.

      Delete
    5. For me when someone asks how many children do you have I say two. I had two lost pregnancies, one very early and one at nineteen weeks. Usually when someone is asking the question they are strangers and or new to me and my family, no need to share. They are in my heart, that will never change, others never knew them, their memories are mine and there is no need to keep them in the story for others, or to expect others to remember them.

      Delete
    6. I think people don't count ones that were lost to miscarriage or still born as children. It doesn't mean they don't matter but that we typically refer to the number of children or grandchildren we have by the number that are with us.

      Delete
    7. I think the majority of people only count their living children. If somebody asks you how many children you have I don’t think the majority of people would want to explain their miscarriages and stillbirths to complete strangers.

      Delete
    8. That would get incredibly complicated. All preborn life is special but including them in the numbering would get confusing. Plus, it's not a big deal.

      Delete
    9. They are not going to count miscarriages when they have 100 grandkids. Almost every woman has a miscarriage, by statistics, it's very common. 20 week one of course is awful and should be counted differently. 20-week fetus is moving, kicking, has hearbeat, has developed organs. Though I think officially 25 weeks is a time when they start counting the fetus livable outside of mother's body.

      Delete
    10. A baby has a heart beat, organs and is moving by six weeks too so...not sure what your point is. Those babies matter just as much. Also babies as young as 20 weeks have survived being born.

      Delete
    11. 2:48 The smallest fetus on record to have survived was at 21 weeks and there were many complications. Who are the those babies that survived at 20 weeks?

      Delete
    12. 12:08, the earliest recorded is actually 21w 5d, but yes, you younger than 25 weeks

      Delete
    13. Well if they DON'T count Julibilee even though she was a still born baby, then why do they have "20 Kids & Counting!" ???????

      Delete

    3. 12:41, I disagree a career gives you money, no money =homeless and no life.

      Delete
    4. Despite what the Duggars might want you to think, having children isn't the be all and end all either.

      Delete
    5. But it's still not the be ALL and end ALL of life. Life is about a lot more than just a career. That's what I was referring to.

      Delete
    6. Actually it is, everything single thing except for the air we breath costs money. I am pretty sure homeless people, food stamp recipients, and people living paycheck to paycheck wish that they had a career with a steady income and benefits.

      Delete
    7. Not everyone needs a career to make them a somebody!!! Honestly life is not all about money and careers. It's about preparing for the next life(eternal life) work hard, be smart with your money. Don't go into stupid debt. These folks were probably better off with money, less stressed. And happier than most of you reading this blog. They had the means to survive before the TV show. Basically, stay debt free and you aren't a slave to things and this world!

      Delete
    8. 11:52, you are completely missing my point. There is a LOT more to a fulfilled life than just having a career.

      Delete
    9. Abbie has a NEW career now. Having babies. lol

      Delete
    10. It's hard living paycheck to paycheck. I was blessed I stayed home with my daughter till she started first grade. Then I went back to work part time at first then full time when she got older. I was a college dropout with no marketable skills so I worked retail. A job where you work hard, but no money. A friend got me an office job as a file clerk. I now have a decent paying job, no longer a file clerk. Which is a good thing I lost my husband to cancer when we were both in our 40's. I hope Abbie goes back to work and keeps her nursing license. Plus, working I feel so much better about myself. John can help watch their child. He helped make it.

      Delete
    11. 2:34, no I am not missing your point. I think we have to agree to disagree. Yes there are more important things in life but you can’t enjoy them if you don’t have money or are struggling to pay the bills and feed your children.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That is a good point. I hadn’t thought of that. The difference, though, is that coffee was more Jinger’s thing, while flying is more John David’s. The coffee idea went by the wayside, but somehow I don’t think the airplane phase will.

Abbie has her own identity and had a career before marriage. We've only seen a few episodes with Abbie so it's a little early for this criticism. If flying is a shared interest why is it a bad thing to incorporate it into special moments?

  14. Lovely news for this couple. I’m sure they are both so ready to be parents now they have had a little time together as a couple getting to know each other. Delete
    2. Haha I see what you did there! They may still be practicing more privacy than the other Duggar couples. I have a feeling Abbie is further along than some of the other couples were when they announced their pregnancies, which could be J's & A's way of sharing a bit more time of privacy to personally celebrate if that is the case. Plus, we still don't know Abbie's due date (not even in which season she is due!), so just another way of keeping some of the excitement and life happenings without the media, which I highly respect about them! :)

      Delete
    3. And if they hadn't announced it and news leaked out you would have complained about them being secretive. They can't win with some so they just need to so what is best for them.

    5. 8:57. You realize that pregnant women can work and do pretty much everything they normally would, right? Pregnancy is no excuse to just sit home on the couch. It is a phase of life, not something that is debilitating.

      Delete
    6. She won't be nursing until after the baby is born. lol

      Delete
    7. 9:55, why do you feel the need to say that? If she wants to continue to be a nurse then she will but I would assume she’ll be at home raising her kids until they’re school aged at least instead of sending them off to daycare to be raised by who knows who.

      Delete
    8. There goes her desire to work with "little old people."

      Delete
    9. @8:57. You realize pregnant women still can work. They are not invalids.

      Delete
    10. She will be a nurse! A mother is a nurse, teacher, doctor, etc..

      Delete
    11. @11:12 You can't lump all daycare into the same category like that. My friend owns a daycare/preschool. I assure you they don't hire "who knows who." Every employee has a 4-year degree in Early Childhood Education and is fully known to the staff and to the parents. Each child gets care appropriate for their age and their developmental stage. The children who are old enough have daily academic lessons and are prepared to graduate into kindergarten. The school age children who are in daycare after school get homework help. Some SAHM's don't bother to spend the time for that kind instruction at home. Some SAHM's are more interested in their phones all day than their children. At least in daycare, you have trained staff paid to do their jobs. You make it sound as if they're all inept. That's not the case. If I were young again, I'd love to spend the day at my friend's daycare and get all the perks and the socialization!

      Delete
    12. 4:16 not all women have easy pregnancies
I had Hyperemesis gravidarum. Severe morning sickness that makes you throw up 20+ times a day for months. In another one of my pregnancies I had placenta prévia.
Also she is probably helping John with his businesses behind the scenes.

      Delete
    13. @11:12 Daycare is not some warehouse, with faceless women taking care of children, chained to beds. The daycares here are staffed with trained, caring individuals and the parents are very involved on the decisions regarding their children. Companies have flex hours to allow parents to share the responsibility. It is just not mom taking care of the kids. We also have parental leave of up to 18 months, protected by law.

You assume that mom staying home is always the best solution. It is not always the case. Here, we have preschool starting at age 3, with kindergarten at 4 because research has shown those kids whose moms stayed at home or are from low-income families were generally behind their age peers in social and academic development.

The concept is that it takes a village to raise a child and it is society's interest to insure every child has a good start in life and raised in an atmosphere of tolerance and acceptance of others.

      Delete
    14. Anon 4:16 PM - of course pregnant women are not invalids, but they can have huge health issues because one's body might not be enough to feed 2 human beings. Some women get kidney failures. Some women can't walk. Some women get high blood pressure. Some get horrible morning sickness, and it can last not only in the at trimester. Pregnancy is what women do, but not every woman can easily have 19 children. In addition being pregnant is disgusting, women gain weight in addition to carrying the baby, it is very uncomfortable. This is you plus 40-50 lbs, you can't move right.

      Delete
    15. @12:50 And yet legions of women still work, right up to delivery, either at home or in the work force. They stay healthy (and do not gain 40 to 50 lbs, that is not recommended). A very few may have kidney failure (especially if they were unhealthy to start with). The same is true for high blood pressure which can be treated with medications. I have yet to know a pregnant women who could not walk.

Most women I know were very active right up to delivery. They worked, jogged, were careful what they ate and had uneventful pregnancies. They may have heartburn but that is managed by watching what you eat. Of course, these women took care of themselves before they became pregnant. They kept their weight at a healthy level, they were limiting the number of children they were having and they were under a doctor's care throughout their pregnancy.

Yes, there are women who get hyperemesis gravidarum or some other condition that requires bed rest but these women are in the minority.

The key is a healthy lifestyle before pregnancy.

      Delete
    16. 11:12- In such a huge family, I don't think it would be hard to find someone willing to help with childcare if one of them wants to have a job. My own mom took care of my son for a few years- we paid her, of course.

      Delete
    17. 3:34, by “who knows who” I meant more so that YOU don’t personally know them. Obviously there are nice daycare workers, however, unless it is 100% necessary for money reasons, you should be rasing your own child. There is no reason to have children if you aren’t actually going to parent them. And a child would not survive at home if it’s mother were constantly on their phone and not actually taking care of their child🙄

      Delete
    18. @9:50AM I was 105 lbs. until I got pregnant. I gained 52 pounds for a 6 lb. baby. I was under constant medical care from the moment I knew I was pregnant. There is no explanation as to why the weight went on and stayed on the way it did. That was what pregnancy hormones did to me. I did have trouble walking. It put great strain on my legs and feet. On top of that, I had to be on anti-nausea medicine the whole pregnancy. It was no picnic.

I don't like the way your post makes it sound as if a woman should just "take care of herself" and she won't gain pregnancy weight. That's not always the case. Don't put those pressures on a pregnant woman or "fat shame" anyone who gains weight while pregnant. You have no idea what each woman is going through. Comments like that don't help the women who struggle with things that are out of their control. The point of pregnancy is to deliver a healthy baby, not to win the Olympics while doing it or look good in a bikini. There is no universal "key" to pregnancy.

      Delete
    19. Anon 12.50. I feel very sorry for you if you truly believe “pregnancy is disgusting”. As for women gaining weight & not just that of the baby, many women stay well within the parameters of what is the correct weight gain, gone are the days of “eating for 2”. Pregnancy can be a very beautiful thing, a woman is giving life to a new human. Yes, not many people can have 19 kids but to say in a generalised way that pregnancy is disgusting is rather extreme.

    3. Of course many people don't get pregnant right away but as I said I just guessed wrong. No need to assume judgement since there was none. 8. I think Anon@10:58 meant that when Mackynzie Duggar growns up and marries someone and will her her last name, her kids won't be Duggars by their last name. Too far ahead. We now look at the grandkids who have a Duggar last name, kids of Duggar sons, kids of John, John, Joseph, Josiah so far. Other grandkids are Dillards, Seewalds, Vuolos and Forsyths.

    3. In fact this year someone was pregnant all the time, before Jessa had Ivy there were four pregnant and after the grandchildren are born in November Abbie will be pregnant,I presume she is at least 12 weeks, they would'nt announce before that so she should be due January or February not before because she's not showing yet.

      Delete
    4. Might be rather difficult for someone to be pregnant all the time ;-)

      Delete
    5. I’m going to guess in 2020 there will be a baby born from Abby, Jill, Jinger, and Joy.

      Delete
    6. Michelle was pregnant pretty much 5-12 months after a baby was born, her kids are apart from 13 month to 22 months. Like Jessa was born on November 4, and next year on December 21st Jinger was born. Then next year Joseph was born in January, on January 20.
Similar with Josiah who was born at the end of August and Joy who was born next year at the end of October. So Michelle had to be pregnant literally when the previous baby was like 5 months.

      Delete
    7. I think Jessa might accidentally get pregnant quite soon and have like Irish twin to Ivy next year. Also looking at Kendra, she could give birth in November and have the next baby next year in December. Joy most probably would want another one quite soon, to heal her heart, so she could have a baby next year too.

I don't think Jinger would want to have another baby soon, or Jeremy. They are happy exploring California, Felicity is still so little but so much joy. But then Jinger probably would want to have her daughter a sibling close in age. So who knows.

Jill does not work, Derick is a student, their kids are still small. I don't see Jill getting pregnant soon. Maybe when Derick is out of his law school.

  39. If they have a boy, I hope they name him Declan. It's my favorite name for a boy. Amari if it's a girl.
