The Forsyths' Loss

Austin Forsyth and Gideon Forsyth
Austin Forsyth and Gideon Forsyth, June 2019

Just days ago, the Duggars announced that Anna Duggar, Kendra Duggar, and Lauren Duggar are all expecting baby girls in November. This evening, they have shared a devastating piece of news. Joy and Austin Forsyth lost their baby, who was also due in November.

The expectant parents went in for their 20-week ultrasound and gender reveal one week ago and were told that their baby had passed away. It was a girl, and they named her Annabell Elise. Please join us in prayer for Joy and Austin for both physical and emotional healing.

    2. It is odd though that you always put your religion down though.

    3. But can’t you give us an explanation? We kinda expect that if there’s something odd going on here...

    4. Why do you identify yourself as a Mennonite if you don't want to be asked? It's unusual. None of the rest of us identify our faith in our comments. Honest question.

    1. I wrote basically the same thing on another page. Annabell Elise saw the face of Jesus first, and then Grandma Mary was there to hold her and see her precious face! God bless Joy and Austin on their grieving journey and the entire Duggar and Forsyth families !

    2. Do you remember how some were commenting on how sad it was that Grandma Mary was going to miss out on all the baby girls? No one knew that one of them was coming early to join her. Bittersweet.

  8. Joy, Austin, and the rest of the family- words cannot express how this news absolutely broke my heart. Joy, I love you and I admire how much you have cared for this baby girl, even though her time her with us was short. I admire your strength and loving personality. Austin, I simply admire how much you put your wife before anything else. She is with God, but I promise that God will not let you be alone during this time. He is with you wherever you go and will always pull you out of the darkness. Have faith in God and each other. Much love to both of you.

  10. I will never forget the episode of 19 and Counting when Michelle lost little Jubilee. Her immediate statement was so poignant: "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord".
As a mama who's lost a sweet little angel baby, it was just heart wrenching. This news for Austin and Joy is no different. I pray for the arms of their Savior to encircle them at this time and that they might find comfort in them.
And just after the loss of Grandma... oh... what a tragic time for the Forsyth and Duggar families. I'm just in tears for them!

  22. My deepest of sympathies go to joy & Austin. Every loss at whatever stage of pregnancy is devastating, but loss at 20 weeks when baby is so well developed & you have to give birth is truly horrific. I hope this lovely couple have every bit of medical support they need for the delivery. Their family will be a huge source of comfort afterward too. I hope joy has the strength to cope with the next few months & watching pregnancies progress that were all due around the same time as her. My thoughts & prayers go out to them both & their daughter. RIP Annabelle Elise.

  28. I am so, so sorry for the passing of Annabell. What a sweet and precious name for their daughter. I have been through this as well and my heart is aching for Joy and Austin. Yes, as Christians we grieve differently, but please, let them grieve. To many times as Christians we see grieving as lack of faith and so want to rush the process. The reality is Joy and Austin will grieve the loss of Annabell for the rest of their lives. Eventually joy will come in the morning as promised by our Heavenly Father, but right now, and as all these baby girls are being born, I hope there will be sensitivity toward Joy and Austin.

    1. This-so true, so perfect. Jesus, Himself, grieved the loss of Lazarus so it is perfectly acceptable for us to be honest in our grief. God is and has always been big enough to handle the full measure of our grief and He longs to comfort every one He has made.

  30. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

    3. 9:36, it doesn't make sense to us until we realize it boils down to trust in God's promise that He works all things together for good to those who love God.

    4. Anon @9:36 AM: the baby might've had some genetic issues, and sometimes these babies might survive till the full term and even couple of months after, but it's a very low quality of life.

    5. 9:36 It is in the Bible. Job said it after his ten children were killed. God is good even in loss. God understands the loss of a child since He suffered the loss of Jesus for three days. God’s ways are not our ways. He knows the past, present and future. We don’t have to understand, but we can trust Him.

God is a loving Creator, but man brought sin into the world. Sin brings sickness and death and evil and suffering with it. It isn’t God’s fault. He created Adam and Eve and put them in a perfect environment. They only had one rule that wasn’t to be broken. They chose wrong just as we would have if we had been there. That’s why God sent Jesus to pay the punishment for our sin and make a way for us to go to Heaven. Jesus who never sinned died to pay for the sins of mankind and then rose again three days later. Believe in Him and ask Him to save you and He will!

    6. When I go through hardships, I repeat, "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him. Job 13:15 His ways are not my ways, and I trust Him.

    7. @12:28- Not everyone believes that the Bible is the irrefutable world of God.
Obviously you do and if it works for you, great. Simply understand that contrary to what you may believe, many people are doing fine without it, including myself. And no, we don't worry about being "saved."

      Delete
    8. 9:48 the message was addressed to Austin and Joy who DO believe the Bible as well as some people who comment here. It's good to have the Word of God to comfort us as well as other Christians to pray with and for us. Sorry you don't believe☹

  54. Dear Joy and Austin,
I pray that you will find comfort at this heartbreaking time knowing that underneath you and all around you are the everlasting arms of the saviour. I pray that you will know his peace and comfort as you go though this pain and that you will draw strength from the one who never grows tired, from the one who knows you and loves you and is your refuge in times of trouble. Your testimony of God's goodness is so strong and your faith in him shines through your response to such tragedy, indeed, what a blessing it is that your precious daughter is in glory right now looking at the face of Jesus.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.

  65. Joy and Austin So very sorry for your loss. It is going to be especially hard for two reasons: the baby was so far along and the sisters will all be delivering in November. The name you chose was so beautiful. Did it also have something to do with Anna being one of Joy's names and isn't Austin's mother Roxanne? I trust your family will give comfort, especially your mom who went through something similar with Jubilee and also your sisters-in-law Lauren and Anna. Please take care of yourselves both physically and emotionally so that the future holds promise for any additional children that may be in your future.

  83. I am so sorry! I had an early miscarriage and 3 weeks after that loss, I got pregnant again....and had my first son...then a little over a year later,I got pregnant again and had my next son. I put on hold more biological kids...and chose to adopt...once I brought home our daughter, I then chose to adopt another son, then chose to close down the door to more biological kids so we could pursue adopting exclusively. We then decided to adopt 2 more times, adding two more daughters....with 6 kids ages almost 23-5 years old, we still are considering adopting again. Why am I saying this all....because God knows all the answers to us growing our families. There are so many ways to choose to become parents....I hope anyone who needs to hear this message knows God is in your pain...he will make beauty from ashes....whether its loss, grief, pain, God is with you Joy and Austin!!!

    1. I find it dismissive of Joy and Austin’s current tragedy and grief for others to tell their miscarriage stories. Would you say to someone who has just suffered a loss....I had three miscarriages bla bla bla, I hope not. Let’s love and support this family without our own stories of woe.

    2. 3:44 -- Wow -- 2:42 put her heart out there in such a vulnerable and sweet way, and you responded so insensitively. It's going through your own hardships that sometimes enables you to minister even more effectively to others. Have a heart!

    3. Mother’s who have been through a still birth can empathise with joy on a totally different level to the rest of us & many women like to hear other mothers tell their stories of loss. It’s encouraging to know so many people have walked the same path & come through it. This is a time when joy will be at her most vulnerable & other mother’s telling their personal journey of loss could be a huge help to joy.

  90. My heart is aching for them. I do wonder if Joy received prenatal care and testing for her pregnancy. I wonder if genetic testing and medical ultrasound could have picked up an abnormality. God bless.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It was a medical ultrasound that told them their baby had no heartbeat. There is no reason to have an ultrasound early unless you have high risk pregnancies. And what, pray tell, is the purpose of genetic testing???

      Delete
    2. Yes she had regular prenatal care. Genetic testing isn't a routine thing doctors order, and ultrasound can pick up many things, but not everything. So don't go trying to lay blame and guilt on Joy & Austin. These things happen regardless of medical intervention. Be kind.

      Delete
    3. She was obviously receiving care since she was going in for her scheduled ultrasound to find out what the baby was. Who knows if there was an abnormality? Sometimes babies die, and there isn’t an explanation. My nephew’s son was born a few months ago. He was stillborn. The doctors don’t know why.

      Delete
    4. We don't know what kind of care she was receiving. The ultrasound place could have been a non medical one like jinger went to to find out the gender. That being said at most they would have just found out earlier that something may be wrong. I'm not sure if it's better to worry for months before hand or to be happy until the end.

      Delete
    5. Genetic testing? Unless there's some known risk for a genetic linked problem, doctors don't do that. If it's found that Joy's baby died from some genetic problem, then testing would be in order for any future babies they might have.

  95. I feel terrible for them especially when 20 weeks along. I hope Joy follows up with a specialist as to what may have happened. This proves, along with Si & Lauren’s miscarriage, that sometimes it is not smooth sailing. In Joys case, I hope she rests and recovers her strength. And hopefully, wait a bit longer. Precious Joy & Austin,it will take a very long time to even get brief relief for your loss but be strong in the Lord and hug on your son a lot.He doesn't know why you are so sad but he feels it. God bless and love on you now and always.

  100. So sorry for the loss of your precious baby girl. There are many people that have been through the same thing and can definitely relate. I have a son who is with Jesus and will forever be 16 years old in my eyes. I know November will be a very tough month for you when your sisters give birth, so I will continue to pray for in the coming months. Your sweet Annabell and her aunt Jubilee are having a wonderful reunion in heaven.

  108. When God closes one door, his purpose is to change your direction. He has something or someone in another direction in his plan for you and I hope that you can find peace with his will. Sorry for your lost and may he keep you in this time.

    1. I have a hard time with the concept that God engineered this loss in order to make Joy and Austin go in a different direction. A kind and loving God doesn't beat people up emotionally in this manner. I could never find comfort with a God who does that sort of thing.

      Delete
    2. I've never been in favor of claiming that God causes the kind of tragedy Joy and Austin suffered to "fix" or make people "do something else". That's simply not how life works and God doesn't play "puppet master" in our lives.

      Delete
    3. I'm sure you mean well, but I in situations like this, the only words that count are those that express sympathy, not an explanation about God's will.

      Delete
    4. That’s just hooey. God doesn’t take an innocent baby so they can change direction.

      Delete
    5. @3:47 I was taught in church that all babies are sinners, and that never set well with me. You're right, that was nothing but an innocent baby.

      Delete
    6. God doesn't cause the death of a beautiful innocent baby. Annabell died because this world is fallen and cursed, and unfortunately death is part of that curse. God can USE this awful event, but it's wrong and misleading to say he CAUSED it.

  109. How truly sad. My heart aches for them. What a beautiful name they chose for her.

  110. That's awful. I hope they will find out what happened, what caused it. That would bring them more peace.

    1. Yes. I think that would be helpful to them especially if they have more children in the future.

  111. So VERY sad to learn of your loss. Hopefully, you will be blessed with a rainbow baby, like Josiah and Lauren. My heart and prayers go out to you all.

  119. That is so painful. I hope they all will be sensitive to Joy's feelings when all these baby girls born in November. Similar to how Lauren's first baby had the same due date as Jessa's, and Jessa now had her baby, and thankfully Lauren is pregnant again. I don't think that Joy will be pregnant so soon, it takes time to grieve after the miscarriage at such a late term.

    ReplyDelete
  120. That's heartbreaking. Shows that even after the first trimester nobody is safe. Hopefully other Duggar girls are on in their pregnancies. Lauren and Anna had later due dates than Joy.

    1. Anna had 5 healthy term pregnancies, she probably feels ok. Lauren though might be freaking out because she did have a miscarriage before.

    2. Anna miscarried her second pregnancy.

  121. So they found it out a week before July 3rd which was still June. What a bad month that was for Duggar family, the grandma passed away tragically, now Joy's baby. So sorry for their loss.

  123. This news is so terribly sad, even more so because they had to be so excited for the gender reveal. The name is absolutely beautiful. Thank goodness she has such a wonderful support system and incredible faith. I do not believe God wills this to happen but is there in Christ to “hug” Annabel into her heavenly home
and walk through the grief with the family.

  124. I am sooo sorry! I am crying right now!!! They would have all had girls too 😭

    ReplyDelete
  125. Does nobody else think it was because of her c-section? I mean they might not be able to have another kid.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Many people have babies after their c-sections. Michelle has a c-section with her first twins, Jana and John, and so many kids after that, and majority were natural birth.

      Delete
    2. I think they need to find out why it happened. It is not often when a miscarriage happens so late in the pregnancy. First trimester miscarriages are not rare. They need to know so that would not repeat.

      Delete
    3. Are you for real??!! Many women have had more than 1 C a-section. What a rude and insulting comment!!

      Delete
    4. No, I think it was most likely a genetic abnormality (which happen as random and most likely never again) we will see if they share more information.

      Delete
    5. I doubt the previous C-section was a factor. However, there was some medical problem that might be a problem in future pregnancies.

      Delete
    6. No! Loss happens in pregnancy, no one is to blame. This loss does not mean she won’t be able to have more children.

      Delete
    7. When I miscarried my third baby, the doctor assumed it was from me being sick with a bad cold two weeks prior.
In no way was that 100% definite. . . .I went on to have two more babies.
My heart goes out to Joy & Austin - I pray they will cling to each other during this time of mourning.

  126. So sorry for your loss. So much grief for the family, first tragic passing of Grandma Duggar, now Joy's baby at 20 weeks of pregnancy. I hope other pregnant girls are doing well.

    1. Um..no it's not. I know of many parents who did photos with stillborn babies. It's the only photo they will ever have and it's not like the baby looks bad! They won't show every photo I'm sure...

    2. Only pics they will ever have of this baby... wanted them to be nice.

  131. Although I don't know you personally, My heart has grieved for y'all.I am praying for daily. I know that God works all things for our good. I pray that he will bless and keep you. Hold tightly to him, as you hold tightly to each other and that sweet boy of yours. I love to see his smiles. You can see the joy of the Lord.

  135. I'm so sad :( for their loss! I feel sad for them! I wanted to say my prayers for them and ask god and our lord and savior Jesus Christ to take good care along with the angels of the lord in heaven. God bless their beloved daughter, amen. I feel terrible for their loss, but on the bright side, the good news is that she is still their daughter no matter what! deceased or alive. Plus I love her name! Annabell Elise. Its pretty!:) I think its a lovely name! So don't worry, Annabell Elise is still their child, regardless of being deceased or alive, she is still their child no matter what! And that's a good thing because you have a child forever! regardless of him or her being deceased or alive.
