Dillards in Texas

Jill and Derick Dillard, along with Samuel Dillard, traveled down to Austin, Texas, for a friend's wedding on Saturday. While in Texas, they also stopped in Laredo (230 miles southwest of Austin) to visit the Vuolos for the first time. John-David Duggar was the pilot.

    7. 7:51, your comment shows that you are one of those Americans.

    8. The picture is lovely. Come on ppl, this family graciously share their lives with us and some respond by criticizing their clothing? Grow up.

    12. Maybe 7:51 isn't American. But it's true. Send an American dressed in their normal clothes to any European country, and they will stand out as underdressed. (Except maybe New Yorkers.)

  8. While I think all the Duggar girls are beautiful I am really disappointed Jill and Jinger are wearing pants/jeans now. They wrote in their book about thier strict modesty standards and how they vowed to dress in ways that drew attention to their countenance. And now they are wearing tight skinny jeans and when pregnant they wear tight shirts that cling to them which makes it highly immodest. While I think all the Duggars girls are beautiful I can't believe how worldly they have become. It's very hypocritical of them.

    1. People grow and change as they mature, the girls were teens when that book was written. They are still Godly women who dress modestly.

      Delete
    2. Jill and Jinger look nice. I don't see anything "immodest" about their clothing. If you think wearing attractive outfits is worldly, so be it.

      Delete
    3. They have a right to evolve and change. I’m certainly not the exact same person as I was as a teenager. Leave them alone. They all look amazing.

      Delete
    4. OR maybe once they got married they realized that it's fine for women to wear jeans, and that they're just as modest, and many times more practical.

      Delete
    5. I agree, it is hard being a girl and trying to dress modestly and conservatively, the Duggars made it a little easier for me, for me to know there were still people out there who still dressed as modest. But now.....

      Delete
    6. Jill & Jinger look good in pants. That's when they live under their Dad's house they had to wear dress they are married kniw some they can wear pants now.

      Delete
    7. Really? I think pants are still modest. It doesn't matter what they do, there will always be haters.

      Delete
    8. I agree. People can say that they are excited for them “stepping out” but I too am disappointed with them.

      Delete
    9. I like the girls skinny jeans under - long tops...more comfortable and not showing skin....I don't like seeing-most young women wearing skin tight shirts when they are pregnant......not modest at all...

      Delete
    10. Disappointed too . . .

      Delete
    11. I think the problem here is that so many Duggar fans have taken them as role models, yet AFAIK they have never claimed to be. I don't find the skin tight maternity tops to be modest, either.
But that doesn't mean I'm shocked and disappointed they dress like that. I just don't agree with it.
I actually think such tight tops are immodest more because they give an impression the woman is showing off the fact that she is pregnant, than because they may inspire impure thoughts.

I actually disagree with many of the Duggar beliefs, but I think you can be a fan of someone without agreeing with everything they believe. Sadly the recent political climate seems to have people thinking you have to either love someone and excuse everything they do, or hate someone and bash everything they do.

      Delete
    12. They've never come out and explained why the change in clothes, which makes is seem as if they know they've been hypocritical and they feel they can't justify it or talk about it. I don't like it when people say one thing but do another. It doesn't build trust.

      Delete
    13. Agree with the OP. I don't get it either...

      Delete
    14. Respectfully, you do not understand what hypocritical means. It would be hypocritical if the girls wore pants at the same time as they were advocating for no pants. They wrote that book years ago when they lived under their parents' rules and influence. They are now married ladies and forming their own ideas. If they were to advocate for no pants TODAY, then THAT would be hypocritical.

      Delete
    15. Pants are just as fine as skirts and sometimes far more comfortable!
How you dress has nothing to do with your faith, I'm sure the Lord doesn't look what we wear.

      Delete
    16. As my husband who was raised in a IFB church... " I don't have an issue with you wearing pants. They make pants for women or for unisex. My issue will be if you start wearing mens pants." Just saying.

      Delete
    17. When Jessa went on her modesty speaking tour recently, did she mention wearing pants? If not, then that would still be advocating no pants today.

      Delete
    18. I have a female friend who wears men's pants. She's in her 70's and widowed. With her height and body shape, it's men's pants that fit her best and are most comfortable for her. What's the difference? She's found something that works for her. A piece of clothing doesn't have to come with a message attached to it.

      Delete
    19. I personally think it is good for teenagers (boys & girls) to err on the side of more modesty. Once you are married, you and your spouse can decide what works best for you. There is a much higher divorce rate amongst those who marry based solely on looks and a 'sexy' lifestyle versus those who choose a spouse based on personality compatibility. So I personally think there is nothing wrong with these girls writing a book based on modest dressing as a teen and then having different choices in their 20s once married.

Jinger looks glowing and as she is naturally petite she has no sign of a bump yet, maybe like me she will still be able to wear her jeans up to five months, then pop out a bump almost overnight lol!

    8. What should their husbands say? They're grown women in their mid twenties, one is a mother and one a mother to be: they are grown adults who make their own choices, it's not like they need a guardian.
And clearly their husbands approve oc these choices.

      Delete
    9. Anon @ 2:20. If these young ladies husbands said no to pants they would not be wearing them. Look at Joy, Austin is very conservative and has said he prefers Joy in dresses, I can assure you we will not be seeing Joy in Jeans ever, unless Austin changes his mind.

      Delete
    10. @7:17; I think they person thought her dress was too short because their original standards were that dresses/skirts had to go to or cover the knee. Jinger's dress, as well as Jill's, is a few inches higher than that. Once again that's their choice though, just like wearing pants.

  25. It is good to see Derick since he can't be on the show anymore. These days only a Christian is not allowed to voice their opinion if it doesn't support LGBT. What happened to freedom of speech?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Derick had free speech. He used it to say something his employer didn't like. Just because you have free speech doesn't mean you can get away with saying anything you want about anyone you want.

      Delete
    2. It's not that he spoke against the LGBT movement, it's that he was talking badly about someone specific, who works for the same channel as him. That is against contract rules. Also he said he quit on his own.

      Delete
    3. Nothing has happened to freedom of speech. He was not arrested for his views.
Again, as many posters have written, tlc is free to employ whoever they want. Derick is free to say whatever he wants. And no where is it written that anyone is entitled to star in a tv show.

Voicing your views does not mean that there will be no ramifications.

      Delete
    4. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences... Goodness, I would think most adult people are aware of this.

      Delete
    5. I have posted this before but here goes (again!). Derick says HE removed himself and his family from the show long before TLC issued the statement saying he would no longer be on the show, he said he made the decision as they were heading in a 'different direction'. Assuming this is true people need to stop posting about free speech and attacking TLC for their support of another reality show personality on their channel, which is in no way an attack on anyones freedom of speech.

  26. Why are people so critical of the Duggar girls. There is absolutely nothing wrong with what these girls are wearing. They are completely covered. Everyone's modesty standards are different. God is way more concerned about the heart. God bless!

    1. Not that they should have to, but since they always wore skirts and dresses and claimed it was their choice at one time, I think people are a bit confused as to why they are wearing pants and leggings now and would like an explanation.

      Delete
    2. I agree... God does not judge you based on the outside appearance. It is the inside of your heart and soul that he truly cares about.

      Delete
    3. It would show respect to their fans to openly discuss their changed views about clothing, since up until this year, they have made modest attire their way of life and promoted this lifestyle. It might help those who were led to believe that wearing skirts down to the knee is how Christian women are supposed to dress. Their silence on this subject is disappointing.

      Delete
    4. Great points, 8:05! Too many posters on this blog are too concerned over such superficial matters with the girls and their clothing choices. Christians should focus on Biblical absolutes~too many churches and Christian relationships are hindered by preferences, and judgmental attitudes allow division to occur. Consider challenging yourself with the question “What does the Bible say about this?” before passing judgment on a personal preference or conviction.

      Delete
    5. Anonymous 2:32 Good point, they may also want to ask “what does the Bible say about passing judgement”. Being Christian isn’t just about what we believe, but also how we present ourselves, are we; loving, kind, accepting, walking the walk-not just talking the talk. If Jesus walked into Starbucks and sat down at your table, knowing everything about you-your judgements-your mistakes-your “sins” you would want his love and forgiveness.....let’s give that love to each other in all situations, yes even blog posts!

    5. So they can travel to other countries (not the S) on a documented television show but not travel to another state to see her sister? The comment says "I know Jinger has been back to Arkansas..." They are not that close. Its no big deal. Jessa and Jinger are much closer. Jessa has visited several times.

    6. They had a no guest rule for the first 6 months? If my child got married and said no guest for 6 months it would be longer then 6 months before she/he would be seeing me. Who in the world would have the audacity to say something like that to their family?

      Delete
    7. Counselors call that no guests for the first 6 months of the marriage advice "setting healthy boundaries". Generally, one or both of the spouses lack healthy boundaries and are overly attached to their family of origin (they have never been allowed to or learned to appropriately separate as an individual or as an adult). In order to have have a healthy, strong, successful marriage, a couple needs to bond to each other. If a parade of siblings and parents are constantly coming for visits or a spouse is constantly returning to his/her home for an ongoing round of family events, the couple lacks the time, privacy, need, and shared experiences between the two of them to bond. Jinger came out of a girls' dorm situation, sharing everything (emotionally and literally) with her sisters to marrying a husband. She needed to learn how to transfer her "loyalty" (if you will) to him-how to leave her best buds and buddies and cleave to Jeremy. It seems harsh, but it's actually both sound Biblical counsel and sound psychological counseling. Couples need to learn to communicate with each other and work out their differences (barring issues like domestic abuse and substance abuse), not run to their siblings or their "best-ies" when things go wrong or not the way they'd like. A marriage union is between 2 people, not a crowd.

      Delete
    8. I agree with Anon 1:01. I did not know until now that they had such a rule. My respect for them just hit the skids. That is horribly rude. I would guess Jeremy instituted that rule. How selfish can someone be. I was very homesick when I was first married. It didn’t mean that I didn’t love my husband. My husband was wonderful and willing to share. It only made me love him more. If he had kept me from my family, it would have driven a wedge between us that would be very hard to repair. If Jinger agreed to such a rule, then shame on her.

    9. It was Jeremy who said that on the show.

    1. Respectfully, they were raised and encouraged always to be who they truly are. Wearing a pants does not make you "your own person" now, and suggesting that they didn't know "who they were" under their parents house rules. In fact, it shows how respectful they were and are. The girls, even in only skirts have always seemed bold, confident and courageous, doing much more in their family and community then girls who wear pants/tank tops/bikinis... I and know plenty of girls who wear whatever they chose, and they do NOT know themselves at all.... "knowing" yourself or having "your own" identity, is "knowing who you are in Christ, bottom line.

  34. Why are some "fans" so shocked by the changing wardrobe choices of some of the Duggar daughters? Sure, they may have advocated something different in their book, but they have husbands now with some obviously different modesty standards and who give their approval on what they wear. It's ok as long as it's ok with the authority figure.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm not "shocked" and I don't find the outfits pictured here to be at all immodest.

However, while the married women may very well see their husbands as authority figures. If the husbands were to "approve" low cut tops or skirts that barely cover the bottom, would that be OK with you too?

Now, most conservative Christian women believe they should submit to their husbands, yes, but with one big exception; they are NOT to submit to them if the husband wants them to sin.

Now, I don't think Jill or Jinger are sinning by wearing pants. But that's not because "their husbands are OK with it and that gets them off the hook". It's because I don't find pants to be inherently immodest, though I can certainly think of certain styles of pants that are immodest.

And though I know Jill has been seen wearing pants before this photo, I've seen many of the young Duggar girls with the "leggings under a skirt/dress" look. So her outfit here isn't even against Duggar rules.

    1. Yes, Jinger seemed to be much more uncomfortable with the birth process than her sisters who were trained in it. It made me wonder if she would be reluctant to have her own children.

  36. Some people need to look in a mirror before commenting on how someone else looks!
Jill & her husband look fine! I’m certain they didn’t realize they were in a “beauty contest”!

And then they discovered pants are very comfortable!
Welcom in the 21 th century.
I am so happy it was never an issue in our culture.
My Mother were pants in 1956 in Holland.

  38. I love the girls' outfits. Jinger's dress is a little shorter than usual, but she is wearing tights, so she's still modest. I think they look great. John-David is looking very happy. Has he met a girl?

    1. Its not empty and it' a baby bottle he most likely finished as the picturewas being taken. Did you notice how many bricks were on the building or if ants were crawling on it too? Since you were analyzing every detail, I figure I would ask.

    4. Oh my goodness.....why do some of you feel the need to examine and comment on the most obscure things in a photo. Anything to find fault with these young couples. I am reminded of what my mama told me, if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all!

    5. It's not a baby bottle. It has a bottom like a water bottle or a soda bottle. Look at a bigger version.

    6. I zoomed in I see what some mean by the bottom looking like a water/ pop bottle but the top is not tapered and looks like a baby bottle. Either way, no big deal. Safe for chewing :)

  45. Goodness gracious! Most of the comments, on every single post, are so rude, hateful, and negative. I am honestly surprised that the creator of this vlog keeps posting. If it was me, I would assume people don't really want to hear news on the Duggars anymore and would just quit writing. People have too much courage behind their keyboard. Just because your face isn't seen, doesn't mean you have permission to be a jerk.

  46. No matter what anyone says... they are now wives and mothers or mothers to be, they can dress however they desire. They are keeping true to their way of dressing, goodness pants aren't immodest, they cover more!

I'm still shocked at all the comments. Why are you here then, solely to be negative? Sad.

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate on these things." Philippians 4:8
