Time with Mima

Now that the Dillards have returned to Arkansas indefinitely, the boys will be able to spend plenty of time bonding with extended family. Israel and Sam sure do love their Mima (pronounced "mee-muh").

In today's society, there are many different titles for grandparents. What do you call the grandmothers and grandfathers in your family?

Israel Dillard (2 years, 4 months) and Samuel Dillard (almost 8 weeks)

  2. I think it is really good for the boys to be at home on Ark. And for them to be with family. I think being in America is especially good for Samuel since he is still an infant.

America isn't that safe either, no country is

    2. I believe America is the safest place. It's not like some of the other countries where there is zika virus, terrorists, unclean water, etc. America has it's troubles too, but it is the safest. It will get better with Trump as president.

    5. Not like other countries. They are far more frequent in other countires. We are blessed to live in America where we are free, have plenty of food, clean water, abundance of jobs, etc...plus our boarders are getting more secure:)

    6. America is not the safest place. Not even close. Here's is a link to support this: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2017/06/06/safest-countries-in-the-world_n_16969776.html

    7. I am from Canada and I know that it is one of the safest countries in the world, but just like every other country we are not immune to problems either.

    8. I know we are not immune to problems, I just know that America is the safest country because of our wonderful armed forces , our democracy, etc. . Of course we are not immune to attacks, but it is the safest.

  5. This is the first picture we have seen of Cathy and baby Samuel. Hate to see those horrible big black scratch mits on little Samuel. It isn't that hard to keep a babys nails trimmed and it is important for hands to be free for development, not to mention they make little hands hot and sticky.

    1. I agree. I never used those mitts. Trimming nails was easy, and I wanted my kids to have sweet FREEDOM!

    2. Trim right after a bath, trim while they're sleeping...easy. That's what those little round-tipped scissors are for.

      Delete
    3. Or you can bite them off after bath. Never used those mits past two weeks.... maybe they think it's easier but little fingers must touch for development.

      Delete
    4. LOL even with the shortest of nails my daughter would scratch herself (and me!) Unfortunately she'd pull the mitts off. Nothing wrong with mitts :)

      Delete
    5. i dont like the mitts either. babies need to be able to get their hands to their mouths and explore with them... i NEVER used them..

    6. Except they DO hinder fine motor skill development.

    7. Is that the only thing you could find to criticize about? No matter what these wonderful people do or say, someone has to find something to criticize. SMH

      Delete
    8. Used mitts on both my children they are grown now with now developmental problems with their hands that's just ridiculous people.

    9. I agree with Anonymous 2:53! The Duggars can't win, no matter what they do. It's unfortunate that so many people have nothing better to do with their time than criticize.

    1. I could have written this post, as my parents and in laws were called the same. Unfortunately my dad died right after our second child was born, and my mom just passed away a few months ago, but both my in laws are still alive. Grandparents are such a blessing.

  11. i'm so excited to finally be called 'grandma'! which is what my granddaughter calls me. her other grandma she'll call 'abuela' and my daughters best friends mom she calls 'nana'. my sons friends daughter calls me nana. for some reason, and it wasnt intentional, but all the 'non-biological' grandmothers have ended up being called 'nana'. growing up moms mom was grandma & dads mom was nana, yet moms grandma was 'nana-nana'!!
i'm so sure cathy is happy to have derick, jill, israel & samuel close by again. as a mother/grandmother, you want to see your kids persue their dreams but you sure do miss them when they're gone!

  15. We called my dad's mom Granny and my mother's Grandma. Grandma was born in Sweden. As I am older, I wish I knew more about the Swedish heritage, but Grandma and Grandpa wanted to be American. Swedes have very distinctive names for the grandparents and it is different for your mother's mother and your father's mother. For the mother's mother it is Mormor. I think it would have been neat if we called my grandmother Mormor. But we did not. They wanted to be American.

  35. My grandson refused to say Grandma, so his parents asked him who I was (age 1 - 2), they listed several names, but when Bob was mentioned, he said "yes" that's who I am! So, I have been Bob and hubby is Papa for 20 years!!!

  36. My parents are known as Opa and Oma (German for grandfather and grandmother). When my oldest niece was about three or four, she got confused on why there are two different people called grandma, so my parents decided to have her start calling them Opa and Oma...and the name stuck with the other six grandchildren!!

  49. I love this pic of Cathy and the boys! You can tell she adores her grandsons and Israel really loves her. The various pics of the two of them are very sweet. I'm thankful that she's here to enjoy "her boys" and spend time with them. She's such a blessing to them and vice-versa, I'm sure. Beautiful relationship, beautiful pics! We've been blessed to have always had wonderful "safe" elderly neighbors (some single, some widowed, some living far from their grandchildren) pour themselves into our child from the time we was born. They just kind of adopted her as theirs, engaging her, including her, showering her with attention, giving her little cards and gifts. We, in turn, encouraged her to do the same for them and made a practice of helping them in their homes, with yard work, or shoveling snow. As a result, she's been blessed with 4 "natural" grandparents, plus 5 adopted ones.

  50. I am only familiar with my mothers side of the family
My Mom's parents are just Grandma and Grandpa Gould
My Grandma's Mom was Grammy Johnson-she died 7 years ago from last May
My Grandma's Dad died way before I was born so I just refer to him as Great-Grandpa Metz, my Grandma's stepdad whom i knew was my Papa Johnson
My Grandpa's Mom died a few years before I was born, I refer to her as Great-Grandma Gould, I don't even have a name for my Grandpa's stepmom who died 12 years ago. I never knew her.
My Grandpa's Dad who just passed away August 11th (97 years old) was referred to by me as my Great-Grandpa Gould.

I don't know my dad's family at all and to venture into who I do know grandparent-wise which is just his parents is very limited. His mom dired 2 years before I was born and his Dad is not a part of the family perdiod!

My family does have dear friends is Oregon whom we call Auntie Fran and Mr, Eugene. Auntie Fran was my pediatrician as a baby (I have various special needs) and just kinda adopted all of us. Mr. Eugene is her husband. A side note neither of those 2 are Christians and their health is slowly failing so Lily and Ellie if you could send up a prayer for them that would be wonderful. I am uncomfortable with prayer myself even though I and my family fir a far back as I can trace it on all Maternal sides are Christians
