Henry Seewald's 11-Week Milestone

Henry Seewald is eleven weeks old today, and he weighs nearly 16 lbs, which means he has almost doubled his birth weight of 8 lbs, 11 oz. Today, Henry sat up in the Seewalds' Bumbo seat for the first time.

For comparison, here is a snapshot of big brother Spurgeon Seewald at around the same age.

  1. Wow! They look just the same! My babies were chunky too. My oldest weighed 20 lbs. when he was 4 months old.

  2. Boy Henry is a cute sweet big boy. I cant wait to see who he looks like in a few months.😇

  3. Is Henry OK? He always has a blank expression on his face. Hope he's not autistic. Jessa needs to have that checked out by a real doctor.

    1. I beg you to please speak blessings and not curses over this precious child. I understand your concern but I think he's just a laid back little guy.

    2. I know a little girl who a super serious baby, but once she turned one she was the most bubbly little sweet heart. I doubt Henry is autistic, and that's not a polite comment to make IMO

    3. he is only two months old I'm sure he is fine my kids didn't fully smile till four months old

    4. How do you know what kind of doctors they are taking them too? The child looks completely fine, all babies are different and it seems that Henry is more serious. In fact he has the same expression as his brother in the photo below. Is there something wrong with you're eyes? You should have them go checked out.

    5. For heaven's sake. What a strange blog response. The baby is only 11 weeks old. Even at that, babies have different personalities at all stages. That's not a blank expression. He just seems more on the serious side in that picture.

    6. Has autism EVER been diagnosed at 11 weeks? And by a blog reader??

    7. Shame on you for even having a negative attitude towards people with Autism. (It's also likely not be possible to diagnose Henry with Autism at this age.) Even people with disabilities are children of God.

    8. Wow anon. What kind of comment is this??? Henry looks completely fine.

      Terrible.
      It's a lovely sweet boy.

    10. Relax everyone. Or better yet resist the urge to respond. I have become convinced there are posters who intentionally say these things for the sole purpose of causing offense and stirring up strife. And, they sure do succeed. They get some kind of twisted pleasure from saying mean things..and getting responses. It's a very low level of maturity that would attack an 11 week old baby. Consider the source, and as Elsa says "let it go"!!

    11. My kids always got that look on their face when they were working on a BM!

    12. Hes just a tiny baby what else is he supposed to do? Spurg also looked pretty serious in his picture too. Plus I dont think thats something you can even consider until the child starts to(or doesnt start to) speak

    13. OH...So we can tell that you are one of THOSE kind of people...SMILE and be sweet today to some stranger, maybe that will rectify your comment some😐Blessings y'all 😉

    14. Our son never really smiled at that age and people would always comment on how sad and serious he was. He is one year and four months old now and you rarely see him NOT smiling nowadays. He is always happy and content. What a baby does or does not at this youg age means nothing.

  5. What's the milestone at 11 weeks? I would think it would be 12 weeks, as he would be 3 months old. Henry sat in Spurge's baby seat. I'm not sure babies at this age can properly hold their heads up as their neck muscles aren't developed yet to do so. He's a bit young for that seat IMO.

    1. Some babies develop very quickly and can support their necks sooner than others. :)

      Delete
    2. Anon @ 5:25 I thought exactly the same thing, reaching a particular milestone means something like 1st smile, baby sitting up unaided for first time, starting to crawl etc. If there is nothing new to report why make up something pointless? He is a little chunky monkey though, those chins lol!

    3. Actually, babies can. They are all different.

    5. As a mother of autistic children I find your comment very offensive. All children are a gift for God regardless of abilities, needs or medical condition.
To say "hope he is ok" is a unkind and unthoughtful thing to say about an 11 wk old. Just think how you would feel if you were Jesse and Ben reading something like that about their baby.
Autism is a serious life long medical condition that affects a lot of people, it is not something to be taken lightly and just thrown around like you have. My autistic daughter may well of read this comment as may other autistic people and would be hurt by it. Please think about the comments you put and how they affect others. God bless from U.K.

    2. Anonymous @ 8:33, What a ridiculous comment. First of all, it was a comment about his size. Secondly, we have 9 boys and they all love sports. Most boys do. Some don't, and thats fine too. But to say that someone saying he would be big enough to play a certain sport is "projecting gender stereotypes" is beyond ridiculous.

  20. Jessa and Ben are great and loving parents but they should do some research on equipment such as this seat, walkers etc. They're really not good for motor development and can actually damage a baby's hips and back. This seat forces infants in a awkward sitting position when they do not yet have the strength, balance, and coordination they need to sit. Any physical therapist or doctor should be able to tell parents this. Not saying they are bad parents, they just don't seem to know better unfortunately

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Um.... you really been misinformed. I don't know what kind of doctor or physical therapist you've talked too but that is hugely false. Walkers are actually really good for babies - especially the kind they have now.

      Delete
    2. Wow, don't ever become a doctor. You need to go to classes or maybe Jessa and Ben can help you.

      Delete
    3. You need to talk with real doctors and physical therapists

      Delete
    4. Walkers are terrible that's why they recalled all of them in Canada.

      Delete
    5. To anon. 9:53 I don't know what kind of walkers or equipment are you talking about, but at least here in Canada wheeled walkers for babies are banned and there's a reason why.

      Delete
    6. Unfortunatly that is true. In some European countries and Canada those walkers may not be sold because they are a safety hazard and can slow down the motor development of babies. Children spending lots of time in this equipment start walking later (statiscally, so don't say "my little one was walking by 9 month", it's an average) then those who didn't.
Sitting or standing babies upright before they can sit up for themselves can damage the spine because the bones are still very soft.
The same is true for "bad" baby carriers so called crotch danglers like the Baby Björn which force the babies into a position they wouldn't choose for themselves (pick a baby up, support it under the bum and hold it close to you and you will see that is gets a round back and pulls up its legs so that the knees are at the height of their navel).

I don't want to say that Jessa and Ben are bad parents, I really don't! And I would never think that they want to harm their babies, but I think that they are not so well informed and standing in the spotlight they might cause other parents to buy the same things without proper research just because they have these things.

    1. Agreed!!! He is a normal healthy little boy who just doesn't like to ham it up for the cameras yet!!! I don't get why anyone would think something is wrong with him based solely on pictures where he isn't smiling.

    2. Couldn't have said it better myself !!

      Delete
    3. No, he's not fine in that seat at that age, used on a sofa. It's a floor seat, for an older baby. The pictures Jill and Jessa have posted with their children in these seats tells us they do not know what they're doing. One tug, one lean from 16 pounds, and that seat would be on the floor, Henry and all...

    4. I AGREE. Besides, healthy looking babies like these are the cutest.

    7. I'd love to know how the someone off camera right there within reach could catch a baby when they're busy taking photos. If there's a trick to things that, such as having 6 arms, I haven't mastered it yet.

  23. I have an issue that the bumbo that little Henry is sitting on is on the couch. Bumbos have a huge warning saying that a Bumbo should only be placed on the floor and never on any elevated area such as a chair or table. There is a serious potential for a fall injury. So much so that Bumbos were even recalled a few years ago because of the fall hazard.

    That is very irresponsible.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Have you considered that they simply placed him on the couch for a brief time in order to take the picture? I doubt they would leave him there unattended.

      Delete
    2. More importantly bumbo' are not suppose to be used for babies who can't sit up unaided. It clearly says on the packaging! It causes the baby discomfort, & aching back muscles and at worse can damage their spine. No wonder he doesn't look happy!

      Delete
    3. Did anyone ever consider that they just put him in the seat to get the picture? They probably don't use it on a regular basis nor leave him in it for hours. Chill. Out. People!!!

    4. The Duggar girls have used these seats very often for their babies, and have given us numerous pictures to show this. It's of continual concern for viewers.

    1. Actually babies should double their birthweight by 4 months. That being said, he looks perfectly happy and healthy.

      Delete
    2. You want the weight to double by 6 months and triple by 1 year. My son was 8lbs when he was born and at 6 months he was 19lbs, now he is 9 months and 24lbs. Every child gains weight different and develops differently.

    1. Hi Jean,

Are you watching from inside the United States? Most TLC videos can only be viewed from a US IP address. We recommend trying a different browser (our favorites are Mozilla Firefox and Chrome; Internet Explorer is unreliable) and a different device (laptops/desktops are best). We also suggest you update your Adobe Flash Player software (https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/). TLC usually uploads their clips to YouTube a few weeks after they are uploaded to TLC.com, and we always try to share them with those who can't view the originals.

      Hope this helps.

    2. Oh, please. Speculating that he's not all there mentally because he's not smiling in a photo? That's just ignorant and cruel.

  30. I had to laugh at this picture of Henry because my daughter looked like this at the 3 month old portrait shoot. I'd just nursed her and she wasn't fully alert and the photographer was doing all sorts of "crazy" things trying to get her to smile. The look is "What ARE those people doing?". LOL Our poor photographer about wore herself out trying to get a smile; if she'd just quieted down and talked to her, played with her a bit, she would have smiled.
