Recap: 'Jinger's Wedding'

Counting On "Jinger's Wedding"
  • The night before the wedding, Jinger sleeps at Jill and Derick's house (the Duggar "guesthouse," located next door). The next morning, Jeremy comes over to read the Bible and pray with Jinger.
  • "It seems very surreal that we're at this moment in time when Jinger is going to get married and we're giving our daughter away," says Michelle. "And I just want today to be a time of joyfulness and happiness, and yes there's going to be some stressful, crazy moments to try to pull all this together, but at the end of the day, I want it to be about relationships and making sweet memories."
  • Michelle's childhood friend Cindy is one of the wedding planners. "She's so dear, and her mom is so dear," says Cindy. "It's just a special day." Jer, Jed, and Jason help her wrap boutonnieres.
  • All the girls head to the church to do their hair and makeup. Meanwhile, the guys meet in a different room to make final wardrobe preparations.
  • Josie is the flower girl. Before the wedding, she receives a visit from Amy, the nurse who cared for her in the NICU.
  • Jeremy says that having his dad officiate his wedding has been a dream of his since childhood. "It's just a great joy, one of the greatest joys that my wife and I have experienced," says Pastor Chuck Vuolo. "It's been a joy to see [his] friends come together to support him."
  • After Michelle and the sisters help Jinger into her stunning wedding dress with a 13-foot train, Jim Bob arrives to give his daughter a hug. "Jinger!" exclaims the father of 19. "You're so beautiful. You've got to be one of the most beautiful brides ever. Wow. You're breathtaking."
  • Jinger presents her father with a handkerchief with a sentimental message printed on it: "To my dad: You are the first man I ever loved. When you give me away today, know that I will always be your little girl. Your loving daughter, Jinger."
  • Jim Bob tears up. "This is something we have prayed about your whole life, and today God has answered our prayer," he says, all choked up. He and Michelle take a few moments to pray with Jinger.
  • Jim Bob says he expected weddings to get easier but that they are in fact becoming more difficult.
  • The next item on the agenda is bridal party pictures (separately so the bride and groom don't see each other until Jinger walks down the aisle). Jinger and Jeremy each have 10 friends/siblings standing up with them.
  • The guests arrive and are seated in the sanctuary, and the ceremony beings. Jinger's "middle" brothers usher family members down the aisle, and then Michelle and Diana (Jeremy's mom) light the candles.
  • The guys walk out onto the stage, and each groomsman meets the bridesmaid he is paired up with as she arrives at the front of the church. Michael Duggar the ring bearer throws paper soccer balls, while Josie the flower girl throws flower petals.
  • Jinger takes her father's arm, and the two walk down the aisle to meet Jeremy, whose eyes water the minute he sees his bride. Once Jim Bob sits down, the congregation joins in singing "How Deep the Father's Love For Us."
  • Pastor Chuck Vuolo begins the sermon. He instructs Jeremy to love Jinger all the days of her life, even when she seems unlovable. And he encourages Jinger to give her husband wise counsel, saying that if he had a dollar for every wise word his wife has given him, he would be a wealthy man. Pastor Vuolo says that he knows Jinger will be a godly wife because of the example she has had in her own mother.
  • The couple recites their vows, repeating after Jeremy's father:
    • "I Jeremy take you Jinger to be my wife. I promise to be faithful, in suffering and in joy, in poverty and in wealth, in sickness and in health. I promise to love you and cherish you till death brings our separation."
    • "I Jinger take you Jeremy, to be my husband. I promise to be faithful, in suffering and in joy, in poverty and in wealth, in sickness and in health, till death brings our separation."
  • Jinger and Jeremy exchange rings and recite the following: "I give you this ring, as a perpetual reminder of my faithfulness."
  • A beautiful version of "Come Thou Fount" is played as the couple lights the unity candle. The two smaller candles are stuck to the display, so they just grab a lighter.
  • Everyone cheers as Jinger and Jeremy share their first kiss. "The first kiss was amazing, right on!" says Jinger.
  • The couple spends a few minutes alone before returning to the sanctuary to take family pictures.

  1. I have said in previous posts how elegant this wedding was. However, one blemish in it. Did Derek really have to shake his fist at the groomsmen who escorted Jill, dip and kiss her and escort her out? I know they did that at one other wedding but seriously? Can't he man up and let her be or is he desperate for attention?

    1. I agree. I thought that was too much!

    2. I also agree. The wedding was so well put together and beautiful and I think that little act Derek pulled was immature and tacky on his part. It wasn't funny or cute; it was childish. But overall, I think Jinger and Jeremy's wedding was the most beautiful out of the Duggar weddings so far! Jinger's dress was gorgeous and my favorite!

    3. Very well said, Derick needs to stop doing this at weddings. Agree jinger and Jeremy's wedding was very well put together, and the nicest so far among the Duggar weddings in my opinion. .

  3. wish this could be shown to all young girls in a health class so they would know love does come to those who wait for the right one and to cherish their bodies. Their family is such a wonderful example of God's Love

  4. Some one needs to tell Derick and Jill to stop trying to still the spotlight from others they did it at Jessa's wedding and now at Jinger's. Derick getting up from his seat and taking Jill from her escort, dipped her on her back and kiss her down the aisle on someone else's wedding, So....RUDE!!!!!!! if they don't want other man to walk next to their wife may be the wife shouldn't be a bridesmaid simple as that, even if it's family.s so....Jill you had your moment, let your sisters have their own SO......RUDE!!!!!! Love y'all!!💕

    1. Wow, that IS rude. I can't believe he did that a second time.

    2. Jinger was not even in the room when it happened. It took nothing from her moment ! It is what they choose to do, respect their choices also. It hurt no one ! And after the second time, you had to know it was coming, find something better to do than complain abut something that was not a big deal ! It was one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever seen, and I am more than thrilled for Jinger and Jeremy ! Love to the family !

    3. It's kind of become a Duggar tradition... It started when Josh did the same thing to Anna at Jill's wedding.

    4. I feel Christians need to be thinking Christian every momemt. We are to give honor to others and not to one's self.Do not bring attention to one's self. Stay true to God. We all love our husbands and wifes. If the love is deep and secure we give glory to others and love our mates.

  7. Derrick is taking some heat for pulling his wife away from the groomsman dipping her to land a kiss.
I know it's a silly tradition and has been done before but having such an elegant venue it wasn't amusing.
Wishing Best wishes for the Happy couple. It was a beautiful ceremony and I was impressed how they problem solved the unity candle.

  8. Beautiful wedding! So happy they showed it so soon after it happened!

  9. One mistake I guess was when the two mothers brought the big candle lighters back to their seats with them, after lighting the smaller candles. They probably should have left them up on the stage for Jinger and Jeremy to use to light the unity candle.

    1. There just happened to be a lighter there, for some reason. It looked like they either didn't rehearse this part of the ceremony enough or both forgot what they were supposed to do. They about took the candle decorations apart, trying to find a flame! Oh! They should have called on Flame the rapper to help!! LOL

      Delete
    2. Actually you use the two separate lit candles to light the unity candle. They were having trouble getting their candles out of the holders I noticed. Ah the wedding blooper. They ended up using an igniter instead but the meaning is the same. Jinger made a lovely bride. She and Pastor Jeremy looked so grown up and make a wonderful couple!

      Delete
    3. It wasn't the kind.of candle theyou were too big and fat mot.long and tall. That is what I thought they should have left them

      Delete
    4. We also did the unity candle at my own wedding. We used two candlesticks for each of our families and had one big one in the middle for a keepsake. When we lit ours together, we blew out the parents one to symbolize leaving one family and starting a new family. Not everyone does that. Also, both our parents walked up and lit the candle and my father just walked back to the foyer to me. That's been 25 years ago I suppose everyone does it differently.

They did need to to rehearse it then they would have known that candle sticks work better. I think someone gave them the lighter and maybe the tv cameras just cut it to make it quicker.

Derick and Jill did have a "look at me moment" Josh started that childish behavior at the Waller wedding as a slight to David Wallet who Josh was always kinda jealous of (or something) Derick should know to never copy Joshs actions. I did notice that as far as we know Josh hasn't grabbed Anna at Jessa or Jingers wedding. So he's learning at least something.

  11. I wish the Duggar family was more discriminating in handing out wedding invites.
Because one of the "dear friends" they invited shared pictures of the wedding, house and different locations on social media.
Long before the TLC show aired and shared with people who don't have the Duggar's best interests in mind.

They truly violated the privacy of Jinger/Jeremy,her family and most worrying...Josh/Anna and the minor children of the family.
Due to the fact these people were allowed to stay on the Duggar property.

You can edit this comment however you see fit.
I'm just not sure who to contact with this info & I don't want my email address out there to everyone.

    1. Their dear friends also leaked the info about the wedding a week in advance, with date and location and everything. Even the people they contracted with for wedding services were talking about it on social media, before it happened. This "private" wedding was anything but.

    1. I wholeheartedly agree! The elements of this wedding came together beautifully. Jinger was simply stunning. Her dress was amazing. The lace and the gorgeous train, especially when it was circled around her in the back in some of the pictures was just beautiful. The bridesmaids in their different colored dresses were so pretty, and they complemented the bride. Jeremy has a flair for style too and he looked great. Best of all was how the love and joy of the couple was evident in all they did. Very inspiring!

  13. What a beautiful wedding. Although quite large,it was simple and altogether lovely and sentimental. Sometimes When two families start to plan a wedding for their children things begin to grow a little more than what they originally plan. It's all ok. Both families deserve to have things that they have envisioned for their children. This one turned out very special that both Jeremy's parents and Jinger's parents will feel like they gave their children a memorable send-off into life. I liked it. I forgot to record it, so I'm glad I got to watch it!! I wish both Jeremy and Jinger a wonderful life and ministry as they follow God's will for their life together.

    1. Carolyn,
You are so right. When we were planning our wedding, it got way larger than we planned because we wanted to make our family and friends happy. All in all we had a beautiful wedding. We weren't very good at saying no back then.

    2. It is not what the parents or family want but what the couple getting married want that is important?

Jeremy is an adult, who has been working for awhile. I would hope that he paid for his own portion of the wedding. Jinger should have saved some of the money she has earned as part of her appearance on the show. And, of course, they sold the rights to the wedding to People Magazine.

My daughter and her young man are planning their wedding. We told them it is THEIR day. Have the ceremony they want, where they want and invite who they want.

    3. Anonymous- What a good, well-thought out post. You sound like a great parent, with a blessed daughter and soon to be so-in-law.

    4. Carolyn and Regina- This is so true and way too often. Our small wedding quickly turned into a crowd (mainly my mom's family with "we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings"). With 50 cousins on that side and 60+ on my dad's side, my fiance (with a very small family) was less than thrilled with the planning. My brother got married a few months before us-he claimed that he'd mailed the invitations in bulk for my mom's side of the family, but the Post Office "lost the invitations". LOL

  14. It seems like too many responses are repeated at each wedding. For example jimbob has commented that Jessa was one of the most beautiful brides ever. Sure hope that they can try to individualize each wedding. Wondering if anyone else noticed this too?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I noticed, however he has said it to all his daughters that got married. How could you say it to one and not the rest? It's true, they are all the most beautiful bride in their own way. Nothing wrong with him saying it to every single one of his daughters.

      Delete
    2. There was a great focus on Jim Bob as the Father and his responses when he saw Jinger. The mother was not given quote the same moment on video. He says he is mindful of what he says cause all his family watches him for his reactions. Personally I was touched that in his recorded moment he rated the beauty of the brides in his family. People can spin that each is the beautifulest on their day, that is the kindest way to look at that.

    1. Italian flair? Not sure what you're talking about. Obviously you've never been to an Italian wedding at a big Catholic church or hotel ballroom, with a huge feast, wine flowing, music, and dancing for hours afterwards. I saw none of that at this wedding!

      Delete
    2. Agree with Anon. 11:56---there was no "Italian flair"!

      Delete
    3. I'm curious as to the reason the Duggar weddings never include readings; Biblical or otherwise. Their weddings seem to be processional, vows, unity candle lighting and recessional. Is that typical of fundamentalists?

      Delete
    4. She looked better than Kate Middleton, as far as my eyes could tell.

      Delete
    5. Anon 2:05 - I think much of the religious part is cut out of the show. I wonder why, since the Duggars have said they consider the show part of their ministry...

      Delete
    6. Lol, 99.9% of all Italian weddings are Catholic, this only had a few part Italian folks in attendance and some meatballs, i dont think that qualifies for Italian flair, but is sure was beautiful in its own Baptist kinda way😊

      Delete
    7. No it's not the typical fundamentalists wedding. It's probably a time element. Churches have rules too. At most church weddings I have been to or a part of you are give a time period for the ceremony and a time period for the reception.

      Delete
    8. I highly doubt TLC has showed us the entire wedding ceremony. There certainly could have been readings that just didn't make it into the show.

      Delete
    9. They didn't have the reception at the church. It was at another venue. Then there was a big gathering back at the Duggar house until well into the night.

      Delete
    10. Totally agree on the Italian wedding thing! LOL! Many Italians are Catholics and Anonymous at 11:56 a.m. is right. The receptions feature wine, food, and song (including the dancing). It's like the Church part is the requirement and the rest is a huge party.

She did not look better than Katherine, the Duchess of Cambridge. The Duchess's dress was more beautiful, more stately and regal. And please, do not call the Duchess, Kate.

    12. I think speak for most when saying we all were wonderfully surprised not only Jim bob how classic jinger was. But then jerehy also has somewhat star quality being a soccer player in USA. So I believe between them.both they created a wedding that most others even some not in to duggars will copy their wedding!

    13. Protestant faith based Christianity do not usually have readings. It is more in the Catholic faith that does that. Or that I have seen. I am in the south, baptist belt, and it is just not done.

  20. This is from a full Italian: There was no Italian flair whatsoever at the wedding or the reception. The only thing "Italian" about Jeremy is the remaining last name and a few leftover recipes from his GREAT grandmother. Don't see any Italian in his mother. Don't think she has a drop of that blood in her. Does anyone know?
