Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Happy Monday! We have been faithfully blogging about the Duggar family for six-and-a-half years, and we have enjoyed every minute of it. We are incredibly honored and humbled to have hundreds of thousands of readers from across the globe, with a total pageview count of 128 million.

Those who follow my (Ellie's) blog (NashvilleWife.com) know that I am struggling with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I really appreciate all the prayers, well wishes, and advice.

To prevent my condition from worsening, I will be taking a two-week blogging break. During that time, I will still be in the loop, and if there are any big Duggar announcements to be made, I will write a quick post.

In the meantime, I have pre-scheduled ten posts, which means there will be a new one up almost every day, so be sure to check the blog regularly. I am praying that this break will put me on the road to recovery, and I look forward to returning in a couple weeks.

Please feel free to e-mail me at DuggarFamilyBlog@gmail.com if anything comes up during my break. Thank you for being such loyal readers!

  5. Hope you feel better soon. I went thru a similar problem with my right wrist years ago. Never got better til I had surgery (which I was hoping to avoid) and then rehab, which worked wonders. Shouldn't have been scared of the surgery or put it off. Live & learn. Will miss the discussions here, so hurry back.

  7. I have the same condition, but if I write I take my time writing it & pace it,it's not a race to get whatever out there, that needs a rush job on it,if I do this it doesn't bother me a bit patience is the key thing.

  8. I hope you heal soon. It's so difficult when physical disabilities prevent you from doing what you love to do. I, for one, so appreciate your diligent, responsible blogging. Thank you.

  9. I have struggled with carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow for the last 15 years. At one point, it became so unbearable that I was wearing a wrist splint and I was in pain all the time. But then I found a really good massage therapist who was able to go in deep and release some really tight knots that had formed--in my arm and in the shoulder. Wow! I cannot tell you what relief that brought. Additionally, I found that two motions in particular flare mine up (almost instantly!): stirring with the rotating/upward motion (instead I hold a spoon with my whole fist and stir with my upper arm), and the twisting motion of opening a jar (my husband bought me an electric an opener and one of those jar straps for regular twist off lids). I still have to be careful, but those things helped immensely. I hope you can find some relief also; I know all too well how painful it can be. (Years ago, I also heard of a simple surgery where they make a small incision in the dr's office and just cut the tendon--sounds kind of scary, and it is hard to find someone who will do it, but apparently it brings excellent results, with very little recovery time ... much better than the traditional carpal syndrome surgery).

  17. I sure hope you feel better soon! Have you tried an Ergonomic Keyboard for your computer? I was having the same trouble years ago with a job that required a lot of typing. A friend recommended this type of keyboard for my desktop (laptops are terrible for the wrists so I stick with the old desktop :) I had never heard of one and they do take a little getting used to but it helped SO much and provides much needed support and proper angling for your hand position. Hope this helps! Thank you for all do you to produce positive factual info about the Duggars!

  18. One other bit of advice....Try taking 500 mg of Tumeric per day (available in vitamin/supplement sections at most pharmacies)It works wonders to reduce inflamation and has greatly helped with pain in my wrists and knees. Learned about it from a local family physician and many people I've talked to said it worked for them too. Takes about 2 weeks to start working but when you stop taking it you can tell a big difference in return of symptoms

    1. Could you also just take in tumeric through adding it to food?

    2. Careful with that supplement. Talk to your doctor first. Also check into source of the turmeric (note spelling), possible interactions, side effects, and proper dosage for you. Not everyone can take this, and not every source of turmeric is considered clean/safe.

    3. Yes. I believe as. It's affect may be a little watered down but I'm not sure.

    4. Turmeric comes from the root of the Curcuma longa plant and has a tough brown skin and a deep orange flesh. Turmeric has long been used as a powerful anti-inflammatory in both the Chinese and Indian systems of medicine. Turmeric was traditionally called "Indian saffron" because of its deep yellow-orange color and has been used throughout history as a condiment, healing remedy and textile dye

    5. Turmeric as a supplement can cause stomach problems and bleeding problems, and can be trouble for diabetics. Please don't start without checking with your doctor.
