    1. Probably, at least 30.

    2. Obviously you haven't raised 19 children, and cooked for them, cared for them, homeschooled them, listened, comforted, guided them, taught them about God, and fulfilled all the duties of a loving parent. I'm sure many times, there weren't even enough hours in the day to do what needed to be done.

    3. And all of the stay-at-home mothers on this site collectively rolled their eyes.

    4. Every single day, Shes a mom! You must not have children to honestly ask a question like that... I don't care how much the older kids help, she still puts in a full days work every day! A mothers work is never finished.

    5. Gosh - that was unbelievably rude 4:50!

    6. Dude... raising kids AND homeschooling is a full time job!!!!!

  7. I've always liked Michelle. When you hear her husband or kids talk about her, you can she is really loved by her family, and I think that says a lot about her as a person. I'm sorry that so much of the public seems to want to tear her down. Happy Birthday, Michelle. Wishing you many more <3

  8. Her family should give her a birthday makeover, starting with a haircut and style.

    2. Michelle likes the way she looks! She has more interest in her opinion of herself than your opinion. I say, in a world where everyone cares about what others think, that’s pretty awesome.

      Delete
    3. She got one once and looked amazing but didn't keep the new look.

      Delete
    4. Exactly! You'd think she'd be enthusiastic about entering the 21st century, twenty years after it started.

    5. I am not a raving Duggar fan by any means, but I will defend Michelle on this one. She's an attractive woman, no doubt. If she's comfortable with her appearance, that's what counts. I've got enough on my plate at 66 years old without worrying about someone else's hairdo or wardrobe choices.

    1. Diane P.: Michelle and JimBob are featured quite a bit on Counting On. BTW, no one is owed a TV show. Networks make changes and cancel programs all the time. It's business. When a show is embroiled in scandal, they make adjustments.

  17. I wish she hadn't had such ideas as blanket training and extreme modesty when the kids were growing up. I think those did more harm than good.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've never understood why people derive satisfaction in forcing a small child to stay on a blanket for ever increasing periods of time. IMO they're just control freaks,

      Delete
    2. I couldn't blanket train my son if I tried!

      Delete
    3. I've never done it, but I don't see it as a bad thing. The kid is on a blanket with toys. It's not like the baby is locked up in a cage.

      Delete
    4. If people tried to do to a dog what blanket training does to a child, they'd be reported to the SPCA.

      Delete
    5. Anon 9:08 If you force a child to STAY on blanket (a small space) it's pretty much like keeping them in a cage. They aren't allowed off the blanket you know. I see it as a parent on a power trip.

      Delete
    6. They can crawl around on the blanket or play on the blanket.

      Delete
    7. 3:54, it's not a power trip. πŸ™„ There are practical reasons.

      Delete
    8. Blanket training is not a bad thing? You must not realize know what the original blanket training idea involves. It's hitting or spanking the child to get them to learn to stay on the blanket. Who thinks it's OK to do that to a very small child?

      Delete
    9. Got it, 1:03. Not ok to hit them to keep them on the blanket. I wonder if anyone just does it be persistently moving them back to the blanket without hitting? I don't really know anyone who's done it.

      Delete
    10. A blanket is not even remotely the same thing as a cage! And you can most definitely blanket train without any spanking or hitting involved --- it's simply called TEACHING. All you need to do it is a whole lot of patience. It's what all good parents do --- teach their children how to behave properly.

  18. I'm glad Michelle isn't my mom because her baby talking voice would drive me insane!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Guess her family is used to it by now. I wonder why she uses that fake voice though.

      Delete
    2. Her premise is the Bible verse that states a soft answer turns away wrath. The verse itself is true in that a harsh answer often provokes the other person into an angry retort and the situation quickly escalates out of control (usually with both parties saying things they later regret). However, it does not advocate assuming an artificial voice as Michelle has done. Personally, it is very patronizing when she talks that way to other adults (her married young adults especially) or a adult interviewer.

      Delete
    3. Anon 8:12. Exactly. Speaking in a phony voice tone is not a "soft answer" IMO. It's extremely annoying to many people.

  19. Happy Birthday, Michelle! My husband had his birthday the 13th too! I am so glad that Counting On has been including you, Jim Bob & all of the kids on many of the shows. It is so wonderful to have a show where you make your families love for the Lord. I bet social distancing is hard for your family. May God bless you & your family!

    1. "Fruit of the womb" is phrase that makes me cringe- sounds like a woman is incubating a watermelon or something. Also, sounds too much like Fruit of the Loom underwear.

    1. I’m sorry for whatever has happened/is happening in your life that makes you take such joy in belittling others. I hope one day you find true peace and contentment in your life and no longer have to build up your worth by tearing others down.

    2. she had 2 miscarriages...

      Delete
    3. @4:57 So, she has 19 kids

      Delete
    4. @4:45 And I'm sorry for what must be happening in your life for you to decide that others only have an opinion because something bad is going on in their lives. It goes both ways, in a circle.

      Delete
    5. @4:45 While 8:58 may be a bit snide, it carries an element of truth. The whole premise of the show has been "Counting" more kids and I had wondered what number would be enough. Yes, I know the Duggars say they let God decide, but I think that's just a cover for justifying what were their own decisions. JimBob and Michelle went so far as to consult a fertility doctor when she approached menopause and didn't get pregnant after Josie. They were concerned about possible complications at her age should she conceive. If they were so concerned, contraception would be in order.

      Delete
    6. Kinda tore that poster down there yourself 4:45. Ouch.

      Delete
    7. 4:45 here. An opinion is a preference based on experience. The original poster didn’t post an opinion. She posted a baseless allegation, laced in hostility. As for my claim that she’s hurting, it is observable fact that those who intend to hurt others have hurt in their own lives. I hope the original commenter gets peace from that.

To 5:53, she sought fertility treatment??? I hate that...to claim you “let God decide,” then go for fertility doc. Doesn’t make sense. I’m unimpressed with that hypocrisy there. I’m glad they didn’t go that route in the end.

      Delete
    8. Since the title of the show was (number of kids) and Counting it was pretty clear that however many they had weren't "enough". I got the idea that having kids was the end all and be all in their lives which I find rather sad. Now they spend their time controlling the lives of their offspring.

      Delete
    9. @8:56/4:45 So it's your opinion then that it's best to point that out to a stranger you think is hurting? Do you really think that helps?

      Delete
    10. Personally I have had strangers bring my attention to important things/lessons, and I always find that valuable. It doesn’t perturb need that it’s a stranger. I can see that others may not like such an experience from a stranger, but I suppose I was willing to take the risk of the original comment NOT liking it for the sake of, maybe, it truly opening their eyes to the source of their own hostility.

Not everyone is an enemy, you know, even at the occurrence of differences of thought.
