Walk with Baby Bella

Did our American readers enjoy their Thanksgiving celebrations? Sweet little Bella Duggar is already three weeks old. Josiah and Lauren took her to downtown Fayetteville yesterday for some window shopping, which is something that Lauren really enjoys. It was in the 60s, so it was the perfect day to take a newborn outdoors. We just can't get over how much Bella looks like her mommy.

  1. That baby looks like she has an indentation in her head from that headband. Look at the picture bigger. That doesn't look like the usual indentations between neonatal skull plates. That's a long straight line, and it looks like it's from that headband being there and too snug or slept on before it was pushed back.

    1. You're so right! Better to have the soft bows at this age; the head platelets are still forming after birth! ❤

    2. You are right! I see the line. Please ladies, quit using the tight elastic headbands!! Put a cute hat without elastic if you must have a head cover.

    3. There's nothing "wrong" with Bella's head. Why do people makes these sorts of claims?

      Delete
    4. Oh, you are right. That does seem like it's too tight and would be very painful for a baby.

      Delete
    5. Yeah, it does look like that. Maybe that's why she pushed it back.

    6. That sure is an indentation from the headband. Poor thing. You know how uncomfy it is when a sock does that to your ankle.

    7. That looks like a typical headplate indention, it was not caused by her bow. Honestly, you’re all getting out of hand with the bow hatred. The one that she isn’t wearing is very soft and not damaging her head, give it a rest.

    8. I agree anon 2.16, it does look like it could be a mark from the headband, however there is also a slightly more faded mark going up toward the headband at the end of the indentation. It could also be shade from the camera lighting or it could even be marks from delivery that have not yet completely vanished, it does also look like a fading forceps mark to me so it is difficult to say. I love headbands & bows (though not the huge overpowering ones) & I used to put my daughter in them all the time 21 years ago, but you must make sure they are not too tight, this can happen when baby moves while lying down with one on, it happened to me a few times with my daughter, it also happened with a mop cap summer bonnet too.

    9. Do people go over these photos with a magnifying glass? She looks fine to me. Besides that putting a bow on a baby isn't going permanently alter the shape of the baby's head.

    10. It looks like the indention was made with the head band. The one's my grand daughter wears are soft and never leave a mark. Never seen a hard band used. This one looks hard. Hopefully it is not. Beautiful mother and baby.

    11. I hadn’t noticed the indentation until you pointed it out. That’s not a soft elastic headband of the type typically used on babies but instead looks like hard plastic wrapped in fabric.I hated those when I was a child because they were painful to wear after just a short while.

    12. How many of you have a degree in pediatrics? Having said that, please, please, please stop the hateful comments to a new mother. I am certain that she and Josiah would do nothing to harm that precious child. Let's not mention the "thousands" of babies that wear headbands with no ill after effects. Please, think about how you would feel if someone (or several someones) were making hurtful comments about your child. Josiah and Lauren, congratulations on the birth of your daughter!

    13. 3:19, it is a soft one, I know what brand it is. I am 99% sure that’s just her headplate.

      Delete
    14. They were very painfully!!! Hopefully it is not what it looks like.

    15. Obviously little Bella is well-loved and taken care of and you can tell just by looking at their faces. So sweet!

    16. @4:49 What is "hateful" about pointing out something that's obvious in a picture the family shared with the public?

      Delete
    17. Anon 4.49. I made a comment previously, & I don’t think it’s from the headband. It looks like it could be (if that’s what you want to think). It also looks like it could be a mark from a difficult delivery or indeed a forceps mark that is still fading (they can take a few weeks to disappear in some infants). If people look closer the mark also looks to be on Bella’s cheek too. I agree people should not be so quick to make such assumptions. When my daughter wore headbands (& indeed once a summer elastic bonnet) while lying in her pram the band pulled & caused my daughter to get a mark. I felt awful but these things can happen even if the band isn’t actually too tight. You don’t want the band so loose that it could come off the head if baby wriggles in a pram & could fall around its neck & choke the baby. Unlike many of the so called back seat medics on this blog I do have a degree in paediatrics. RGN/RSCN, MSc (Advanced practice Midwifery), PhD Midwifery. I do hope people leave this young mother alone, I feel her mental health suffered when she suffered the miscarriage & the last thing this young mother needs is judgemental people on line pulling her apart. Let her enjoy her baby, everyone makes mistakes, I know I did & everyone thought if anyone knew what they were doing I did, well being a new mum I was as anxious as anyone else. Please try & leave Lauren alone, I can’t imagine she would ever do anything to harm her beautiful baby girl.

    18. It's not a cranial indentation, because if it was the line would go up to the soft spot, not towards the front lobe as it's seen on Bella's head. It's most probably the mark from a headband. I hope parents understand that it's a newborn and their skull bones are still very soft, so headbands should also be very soft.

    19. I wonder of a baby's head has been permanently damaged by a hair bow indentation.

    1. She looks like a newborn Duggar. They all look pretty much the same. That's why they have those wristbands in the hospitals so the nurses don't mix up the babies.

      Delete
    2. 9:28, babies do not all look the same, even newborns. If Ellie were to post pictures of all the Duggar grandkids as babies, I could easily tell you who was who. And no, Bella doesn’t look like a typical Duggar grandbaby, she bares a lot of resemblance to her mom.

  9. Take the bow off, put a hat on. If it's cold enough for Lauren to have a sweater, it's cold enough for a baby hat.

    1. At 60 degrees?

      Delete
    2. Sixty degrees is almost 40 degrees below body temperature, not any counting wind chill factor. Bald babies lose a tremendous amount of heat through their heads without a hat on.

      Delete
    3. Doctors recommend one extra layer than what you have on for babies.

      Delete
    4. Yes, babies need a hat on their head to keep from getting sick. Their immune system is not developed yet.

      Delete
    5. Thank you so much for saying that, I thought she needed a hat on also

      Delete
    6. Maybe the blanket was covering her head except for the picture.

      Delete
    7. Anon 11.37. It’s difficult to see how many layers Bella has on under the blankets, also one of the sharks could have been covering her head & Lauren took it off so we could get a good look at her face in the picture. That baby (apart from the head which we can’t say fir sure wasn’t previously covered), looks extremely well wrapped up to me

    1. Milagro is Spanish for miracle and is also Lauren’s middle name. Lauren is part Hispanic.

      Delete
    2. Milagro is Lauren's middle name. It is from Spanish "miracle". Lauren's mom is 1/2 Hispanic.

      Delete
    3. Did you notice how they say Bella the usual way but then when they say Milagro, they go into thick Spanish accents? Strange.

      Delete
    4. How do you say Bella with a thick Spanish accent?

      Delete
    5. 9:59 I noticed that as well. No attempt at Spanish accent for the name Bella, but yes for Milagro. Also, it is probably better to translate the words as Beautiful One and Miracle, separately and not Beautiful Miracle. The word milagro in Spanish is a masculine noun, so Beautiful Miracle would be Milagro Bello (with the masculine form of the adjective). The word Bella is the feminine form of the adjective describing the baby girl, not the fact that she is a miracle necessarily.

    6. 6:03 Bella is pronounced Ba ya. First a is long like in ate. Second a is ah. ll is pronounced like a y.

      Delete
    7. So they Americanized the pronunciation of the first name but not the middle name. Sounds like a good compromise.

      Delete
    8. 11:24 I agree. She is American, and her name also honors her Hispanic heritage. I wrote the comment about the pronunciation and grammar. I do think it is a beautiful compromise and way to honor her with her mother's middle name as well. It is also a fitting middle name since she was a rainbow baby. Bella is not an uncommon name with English speaking people either. It was a great choice. It blends with her middle name and at the same time as honoring Hispanic heritage. At the same time, she should feel proud to be American.

    1. Nannieslove1955. Not sure if Bella is smiling as she is full of love or concentrating deeply as she looks like she may have a little wind or is doing a nappy deposit, bless her. I do have to totally agree though, Bella is the most beautiful baby & I always say all babies are beautiful (& they are), but Bella is super cute. Your right about Josiah & Lauren’s love coming out too. There is one very lovely picture of the little family at thanksgiving with them all in cream outfits. Lauren is holding Bella & Josiah has his had under Lauren’s also supporting the baby. It’s a very beautiful picture that’s full of love & shows just how enamoured this young couple are with their new daughter. Christmas this year is going to be magical for Josiah & Lauren & I get the feeling their beaming smiles are going to last well into the new year & beyond.

  18. That's a beautiful photo of mother and child, but I'll admit I get so tired of seeing these bows on the newborn Duggar daughters and granddaughters, especially the oversized ones. I guess it's a common thing in the South, but I wish we could just see the baby for herself.

    1. What a silly and trivial thing to complain about. You dress your child the way you want and leave others to do the same. She looks adorable.

      Delete
    2. How does her wearing a bow prevent you from seeing her? That’s like saying a baby shouldn’t wear clothes so you can see it’s whole body, it’s just weird.

      Delete
    3. I agree, 11:02. We can see her face and her hair. I'm not sure what's left to see.

  20. Beautiful baby and Mom. The pink blanket may have been partially covering Bella's face and removed for the photo. This is for anyone who thinks the baby might need a cap. I trust Lauren's judgement on this.

  24. Is it a bow that left this visible mark on Bella's head?
They should use like a hat or something or at least a stretching headband. Newborns are very sensitive.

    1. It looks like a typical intention where her headplate is. Babies heads shift when they’re born, and go back to normal later.

    2. Looks too straight to be a head plate line.
