Seewalds Seek to Overcome Henry's Challenges

Henry Seewald, Jessa Seewald, Ben Seewald

Jim Bob Duggar: "…I’m thankful there’s experts."
Michelle Duggar: "And they can help us get through those challenges and be able to help our children thrive."

It's Duggar night! Tune in to TLC this evening at 9pm ET/8pm CT for an all-new episode of Counting On. Joe and Kendra Duggar take Garrett down to Laredo for a visit with the Vuolos. While the cousins play, the adults tackle some projects so Jinger and Jeremy can soon put their house on the market. The Seewalds have Henry assessed by a speech pathologist, and then the Duggars gather at the big house for family night. While everyone is in the middle of an activity, the Forsyths make an unexpected announcement.

Below is a preview video of the Seewalds' segment. The episode is already available on the TLC website for those who have login credentials from their television provider. As always, we will post a written recap after tonight's premiere.

  1. Unexpected announcement? Joy is pregnant? I really am uncomfortable with this one. We all know how the pregnancy ended.

  2. I can't believe they didn't edit out the pregnancy announcement! This will probably be a very difficult episode for the Duggars to watch, especially since Annabell would have been born right around this time.

    1. Joy has said many times that she WANTED the episode to be aired and that she WANTS Annabell to be remembered. Ignoring that she existed is not helpful in any way.

  3. Arent' the cameras a huge distraction to the evaluator and little Henry? I can't imagine that this is the optimal situation for an evauation. I would want no distractions to get the best possible assessment of Henry's skills and deficits.

    1. That's a good point. Maybe the speech therapist evaluated Henry earlier, in the privacy of his home and family and then later, reinacted the evaluation with the cameras going. I hope so.

  4. I’m sorry, but I really wish Jim Bob and Michelle were not a part of the show. I love seeing the older children and how they’re all doing but the fact that TLC has allowed those two back on makes me sad. I could understand if they were just background characters, and even if they addressed the camera occasionally, but now they’re back to having talking head segments? I just don’t understand it.

    1. I love seeing them! They are counting on too. Their lives are adjusting as thier kids are growing and getting married. I enjoy seeing everyone interacting together.

    2. I love seeing Jim Bob and Michelle back on! They have been, and still are, the very backbone of the family. Josh is a grown man and Heaven knows they raised him right. Jim Bob and Michelle can't be continuously held accountable for him. Let the rest of the Duggars move on in peace.

    3. I feel the same way, Kaity. I love seeing the entire family.

  5. I'm glad they're showing his speech problems & discussing it. I didn't get help for my son, who had speech problems until he was 6, because I had heard so often that kids grow out of it, that I didn't realize he was past the age of outgrowing it. It's good to be aware.

  6. This last season has had more depth in what they've shows & TLC has given us more interesting shows with the Duggar families. I'm enjoying the show.

  7. Jessa is such a great mom. It’s new and somewhat unconventional for the Duggar’s to seek out help in an issue like this and she’s handling it with grace. She doesn’t deviate radically from the way she was raised but she introduces subtle new ideas.
As a mother who struggled with the 2 year old milestones it’s been refreshing to see it in TV.

  8. No parent has a perfect child. My grandson is in second grade and is a little behind in reading. His parents might need to get him a tutor. We got our daughter and reading tutor when she was 7 or 8.

  10. just curious why all the episodes aren't available to watch on TLC? Only episode 1 and 5 are available to watch without Logging in.

  11. I think it's great that Jessa seeks help with even this minor issue. Obviously Spurgeon talks just fine, and she noticed that Anna's son Mason who is 7 months younger than Henry is speaking much better. Younger kids sometimes start speaking later, because there are older ones who speak for them. But Mason has 4 older siblings and seems to be speaking well.

  12. Obviously that speech therapist who came to the house was a very close friend - hence the big hug and the first thing she did, which was pat Jessa's pregnancy stomach. You don't do that if you're an unrelated professional making a house call. You don't go straight up to someone, touch their bump, and hug them. They should have explained the connection.

    1. She literally said it was a friend of theirs.

    2. Jessa clearly stated that the therapist was a friend.

    3. I don't think we need everything explained to us, especially about someone who may only be on the show once. They know a lot of people, and we don't need to know particulars about every relationship we see.

    4. I'm 8:03. I hadn't watched the episode when I replied. Now I know that the speech therapist was introduced as a friend. So they did explain the relationship.

  13. My son was also in a very low percentile for speech at 2 and I don't understand why they would wait on speech therapy. It certainly can't hurt. The key is to help kids the most when they're young and starting to pick it up.

    1. There are certain developmental criteria that must be met before services can begin. That's why they're waiting a bit to see if he improves. Sometimes it's an insurance related issue. If the speech pathologist works for the local public school early childhood program, then there are state guidelines for qualifying for services.

  14. Most kids go through a huge developmental phase in terms of speech from age 2-2,5 years. I'm sure Henry will be fine. He was only 2 back then.

And he's adorable as well! ❤️

  15. So, what's the update on Henry now in Nov 2019? What did Jessa and Ben decide therapy-wise for Henry's speech? Why not just answer the question? What did they decide to do? My son had a speech delay much like Henry's. YES, our local PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM gave our son great speech therapy twice a week, privately, and put him in a pre-k class on his 3rd birthday. Worked wonders and they were quite successful. My son had and has no issues today at 28 years old. Jessa should realize she may have to step 'out of her box' at time for the benefit of her children. The real world outside of her church can and does offer many good things to ALL regardless of THEIR beliefs.

  16. How is Henrys speech now? If there are problems is he in a school or speech program to help him. Jessa nor her family are qualified speech pathologists or speech therapists.
