Lolli's Birthday Celebration

Jessa Seewald, Anna Duggar, Michelle Duggar, Amy King
Jessa Seewald, Anna Duggar, Michelle Duggar, Amy King

The Duggar family gathered together at the big house to celebrate Michelle's 53rd birthday. She has many names--Michelle, Grandma Michelle, Mama, Mom, and Lolli--and it is clear that she is adored by her loved ones. For the gathering, Josh Duggar grilled grass-fed steaks.

On another note, Duggar cousin Amy King is 36 weeks pregnant with Daxton "Dax" Ryan King!

  1. Michelle is a very special lady. She deserves a great birthday.

  2. That must have been quite a party. Jessa and Anna are barefooted and Michelle is wearing some sort of apron.

    2. Love going barefooted. Sounds like my kind of party. :)

    3. I wonder if Michelle wears stockings due to all her pregnancies. Some people have vein issues as well that require compression socks.

    4. You can only tell Michelle is wearing nylons if you zoom in on her feet. Doesn't look that bad otherwise.

    5. @ 9:52am,Michelle dresses like most women her age,you can't expect her to dress like her daughters at her age,I'm in my forties and have given up wearing high heels and tight tops or jeans,it's time to dress more comfortably.

      Delete
    6. 10:26- I am 65 and don’t dress like Michelle. I wear jeans, jeggings, capris, and fashionable, but comfortable shoes. I’ll wear a dress for a special occasion, but that’s it. Jean skirts look sloppy to me, so I’d never wear one.

      Delete
    7. @10:26; Most women I know who are Michelle's age do not dress like she does, including myself and I'm quite a bit older than she is. For starters, I can't remember the last time I wore pantyhose, let alone with sandals! Also, dresses and skirts are definitely not my cup of tea, unless it's for a special event. It's not always easy to find clothing that doesn't make me look matronly. It seems that stores are one extreme or the other for gals my age-it's often either the street-walker look, or dowdy and frumpy- take your pick! I make an effort to find classic clothing, with simple flattering lines that aren't shapeless sacks or baggy and billowing. (I love skinny jeans and yoga pants!) My current mission is to find something to wear to my son's wedding that won't make me look like my next stop is the nursing home!

      Delete
    8. 9:10, I’m right there with you! I wish clothing designers would keep us mature ladies in mind. I don’t want to look like a teenager but I don’t want to look frumpy either.

    9. My mother-in-law is 72 and is and has always been stylishly dressed in the 33 years I've know her, without being immodest once. She rocks a very chic hairstyle, a less-is-more makeup, and definitely doesn't dress like Michelle. LOL Having said that, Michelle has a right to dress any way she's comfortable. I appreciate that her cleavage (or any other private body parts) out there on display for everybody's use. A woman is soooo much more than the some of her parts. I'm glad she has some self-respect. I'm also glad she has some respect for the comfort/discomfort of the people sharing her space. I'm sick of women proudly flaunting their body parts. As we say in our household, "You haven't got anything that no other woman doesn't. We've got our own, thank you. We don't need to see yours." ;) If you gotta flaunt it, you're just usin' it to manipulate somebody.

  3. Anna's face has changed in the past year or so. I know pregnancy is part of it, but it feels like something is just different.

    1. Of course her face looks fatter when she's largely pregnant.

      Delete
    2. Her eyebrows are thicker

    3. it must be the way the camera is picking up the light or something because I didn’t immediately recognize Anna and didn’t recognize Amy at all. I had to read to see who they were. I wish Michelle would have taken her apron off, and taken off kitchen duty. It’s her birthday celebration! Glad Josh did the steaks for the family. Looks like a fun day.

    4. It looks like she has stopped spray tanning so her complexion is very fair.

      Delete
    5. Maybe because she's aging like all of us ?

      Delete
    6. Anna looked markedly different to my daughter and myself, as well. Not a pregnancy facial swelling/weight gain sort of way and unlike she's looked with past pregnancies. Not sure about that.

      Delete
    7. Anna does look very different, also did not recognize her. Could be aging, multiple pregnancies or stress. She has been through a tremendous ordeal, she needs too slow down and take care of her herself.

      Delete
    8. I've been watching older episodes, which makes the difference more obvious. Her face is rounder and her markedly slim nose and high cheekbones don't look the same. I don't know if her face is just fuller than it used to be. She does not look older to me, just different.

      Delete
    9. I agree. The features really don’t look like Anna’s.

      Delete
    10. Five kids and one on the way? Exhaustion isn’t out of the question. My face would likely look different under the same circumstances.

      Delete
    11. Exhaustion typically produces dark circles under the eyes/hollow-eyed look and the person looks like they've lost weight. Neither would describe Anna here.

      Delete
    4. Josh cooked the steaks, but maybe Michelle helped with the sides, helped some of the younger Duggars/grandchildren with food prep, or helped the toddlers with eating their food.

    2. The grandkids have all been born after the end of 19 kids and counting. Michelle has been on Counting on but not often...this is likely a grand child nic name πŸ˜€

      Delete
    3. It’s probably something the grandkids started calling her.

      Delete
    4. But, why? Correct the child’s pronunciation until they say “Grandma “ correctly.

      Delete
    5. My gracious, 7:24, you would like some old-fashioned uptight school teacher. Lighten up. Sometimes the names sound silly, but lots of wornen I know like to be called nicknames for grandma, especially if it’s bestowed on them by their grandchildren.

    2. Some women like to wear aprons. It doesn't mean that she was cooking.

      Delete
    3. 8:24, your comment made me chuckle. I envisioned women going shopping or to church wearing aprons simply because they like to wear them!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Who thought up the name of Lolli? Was it a name little kids called her when they couldn’t say Michelle?

      Delete
  8. Where does the nickname "lolli" come from? Anna looks different to me. I'm glad to see Amy, cause she's my favorite with Jinger. Happy Birthday, Michelle and many more! When is Amy's due date or has she said? One more question. Does grass-fed taste any better than regular steak? I've never had it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Grass fed steak is healthier.

      Delete
    2. Amy’s due date is the 9th of October

      Delete
    3. They're supposed to be more healthy. No hormones in the animal food which get transferred to us.

      Delete
    4. Grass-fed has fewer calories, more healthy fats, and more vitamins, among other health benefits.

      Delete
    5. It said in the blog post, that at Michelle's birthday celebration, Amy, was 36 weeks pregnant. Thus, there would be roughly, four weeks, until Amy's Due Date.

      Delete
    6. Not really sure why we needed to mention that the steaks were grass-fed. ??? Not exactly an important detail to Michelle's birthday, unless somebody wanted us to know how expensive this meal was to feed a family this size. Feels like a little bragging or value-signalling.

      Delete
    7. Value-signaling . . . what does that really mean?

      Delete
    8. Value-signaling means overtly and obviously broadcasting your position (like loudly stating at a family holiday meal or in an office setting that you eat only organic/only whole foods, discussing the urgent necessity of recycling/state of the planet during Thanksgiving dinner, etc.). In other words, feeling the need to proclaim your position (i.e. moral superiority) when it's irrelevant to the actual occasion and the issue has no bearing on morality. That's value-signalling.

      Delete
    9. We buy grass-fed meat because my brother-in-law has an allergy to either the antibiotics cows are given or the corn (they haven't been able to pinpoint it yet). Since we never know exactly when he may come for a visit, we just decided to always buy grass-fed ground beef to have on hand for spaghetti (cooked and stocked in the freezer). We let him know, so he could enjoy the spaghetti he likes, but we didn't really tell anyone outside of our immediate family because no one else needed to know.

  10. who calls her lolli?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Seriously. When has ANYONE heard Michelle called Lolli? She’s a little long in the tooth to try a cutsie nickname.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I wonder if it was a childhood nickname

      Delete
    2. You don't usually give yourself a nickname, so it's probably not something she's "trying". Guess this proves we don't know everything about this family.

      Delete
    3. Sort of like when someone names their kid "Bambi" or "Fawn". It's cute when the kid is little but wears thin when the kid is an adult.

      Delete
    4. Just because we haven’t heard Michelle called Lolli doesn’t mean it isn't a valid nickname. Maybe that’s what a child called her when they were little and couldn’t say Michelle. Lots of times those names spoken by a child stick! Sometimes just one person gives you a nickname and always calls you that. I had an uncle to whom I was always “Pickles.” It could be something her siblings called her, or maybe her mom called her that because Michelle liked lollipops. Just a few silly guesses. 😊 Maybe Ellie can find out. Now I’m curious.

      Delete
    5. "Long in the tooth"? Does that mean 53 is old? Even a 53 year old who still has young children in grade school?

      Delete
    6. My guess, would be that Michelle, is called "Loli," by some of her youngest grandchildren, who are just learning to talk.

      Delete
    7. Come on now, it’s probably something the grandkids started calling her not too long ago and it stuck.

      Delete
    8. Almost all of the grandchildren were born after 19 KAC. She’s not shown on the new show much so it would make sense that we wouldn’t know this is her nickname if it’s something the younger grandchildren started calling her

      Delete
    9. Y’all, Lolli is a name for grandma just like granny or Mimi. The kids have called Jim Bob “Pops” for years, and Lolli is a grandma name that goes with it. Together they are Lolli Pops. Get it? I have an aunt and uncle that go by those names for their grandchildren. It’s newer, but not that uncommon

      Delete
    10. Not so actually, Anna have birth to the first 3 on the original show. Mack was early on, ‘08 I think or ‘’09, remember she was born around the same time as Jordyn. I even think for a few weeks Jordyn, Josie and Mack are the same age.

Moving on...Michael was born on the toilet in the home Jessa currently resides in and Marcus at a birthing center in a pool right before they moved to DC. (Why do I remember these things? Haha)

I think Meredith was even announced right before the cancellation of 19 KAC.

Israel to the currently babies have all been post 19 KAC

      Delete

  14. Happy Birthday to this good lady. I think she is a wonderful mom and I still can't understand why so many people are so scornfully harsh and critical about her parenting. If you read the testimonies of her kids, they are so full of love and appreciation for her, it nearly brings you to tears, reading what they have to say. I'm tired of hearing the constant bellow that "Michelle has her older kids raise the younger ones and makes Jana do everything." Were you all raised in families where you didn't have to help with your siblings? I sure wasn't. We helped one another in our family with siblings, pets, housework, etc., and there were only the 3 of us kids. That's what families do.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah. But your parents didn't pair you up with your younger siblings the way Micelle talks about doing with HER kids. She had too many kids and didn't have time to help them dress, learn phonics, etc. I'm not making a judgment of her, that's WHAT she said she did.

      Delete
    2. How about just sending birthday wishes? I haven’t read any negative comments about her parenting in this story.

      Delete
    3. What sort of testimonies other than the ones the kids give do you expect? They pretty much say what most people say arout their parents.

      Delete
    4. Debbie- I like reading different perspectives, rather than just glowing praise about the Duggars. Their way of life is what’s promoted by their fundamentalist faith. They fervently believe that Christians should have lots of kids, if possible, and will try to present that way of life in the most positive light possible. I don’t think people should be nasty , but there’s nothing wrong with asking questions or pointing out inconsistencies and unusual issues. When I was growing up, we helped out, but we weren’t assigned a sibling to be our buddy and be responsible for looking after them all day. There was only six of us and we went to school, had jobs as teenagers, and went away to college. Our parents didn’t rely on us to be caretakers or live at home indefinitely.

  29. Curious about why you (or the Duggars) felt it necessary to mention that the steaks were grass-fed. Or rather, the animals those steaks once were. Sounds rather pretentious, and it makes no difference what those poor animals had for their last meal.

My parents raised us on cereal, hotdogs and Mac & cheese. Same age as the Duggar parents, only 3 kids though hehe. Perhaps the convenience of fast food and bulk is a product of the times as well.

It's not the fact that they're eating that way that bothers me; it's the need to proclaim it to other people (particularly on social media platforms).

  30. I don't know why people are up in arms over not ever hearing Michelle being called "Lolli" on the show. 19 Kids and Counting has been off the air for many years and several grandchildren have been born since then. If a grandchild wants to call her "Lolli" then so what?

    ReplyDelete
  31. “Lolli”? Please don’t say some grandchild could not pronounce Grandma or Grandma Michelle all of sudden!!!

It's not like we can't tell she's going to have a baby. I know I'm going to catch some grief for saying this, but that kind of behavior is really so attention-seeking no matter who does it. Just for the record, I really like Amy- I think she's probably one of the most authentic Duggars. Maybe because she's wearing a black dress, she's afraid you won't be able to see that she's pregnant or just how pregnant she is (maybe looking at the pictures years from now?)?
