Happy 1st birthday Gideon. Can’t believe this cutie is one year old already, I remember waiting to hear about his birth & it seems like just yesterday. I’m sure joy & Austin have many happy memories of this first year of parenthood & I hope the 2nd year (terrible 2s tantrums included) bring them much joy. It’s a lovely stage in life as your little baby develops into a little toddler. Have a very special day joy, Austin & Gideon ��

Gideon looks to me to be on the smaller side but looks perfectly healthy & well cared for & im sure if he has any feeding issues or intolerances then joy & Austin will be well on that with the child’s paediatrician. This is about a little boy celebrating his birthday, why put a post saying “he is underweight. Fact” unless you are his personal paediatrician & you know his height & weight measurements then please keep the nasty comments to yourself.

DeleteAnd if you are his pediatrician, you have violated a few rules by sharing your "knowledge" on this site. So either you are an unethical doctor or someone who knows nothing about the boy and his health. I am sure his parents are competent enough to deal appropriately with his development, if not perhaps they will read your comment and jump right on feeding him more.

DeleteHe is underweight. I can tell by experience, and it's not just this photo either. At one, he should be developmentally further. Joy Anna probably just doesn't know how to take care of a baby yet, she'll learn y'all, don't get your panties in a twist.....
DeleteFact: Gideon does look very small, almost the same size as his cousin Felicity who is 5 months younger. That being said, he looks happy and healthy and is probably just a small kid. I hope Joy is taking him the doctor on a regular basis for well checkups which is important.
DeleteMy youngest one is quite a small 2 year old boy, my hubby and all the men in his family are very skinny. He looks about Gideon's size and according to weight charts and medical check ups there is nothing wrong with his weight. Baby's grow differently and a child can be overweight and malnourished at the same time if the food is junk food with little nutritional value. And some infants have a poor apetite so it's not always parents fault if the child is too skinny. And I really don't think Gideon is too small for his age. He's adorable by the way!!

DeleteGideon and my granddaughter are only a few days apart in age and she is also very tiny. That said, she’s also very active and healthy. Please stop implying that there is something wrong with him or how he is being taken care of. Just like adults, babies come in all sizes.
DeleteAnon 2.46 : you can tell Gideon is underweight by experience ? Well if that is the experience of being a mother then I think your further comment about joy not knowing how to look after a baby yet is extremely rude & totally uncalled for, it’s that kind of comment that gets social services involved in child welfare. If your experience comes from medical knowledge (ie your a paediatrician) then it’s also wrong to say something like that without knowing the child’s exact height & weight. I have many years experience in paediatrics & midwifery & wouldnt dream to comment such a thing without knowing exactly how the child’s weight & height measurements were. I can’t believe a nice post about a little boy turning one has so many hurtful comments about his size & weight. Poor joy does not need people berating her skills as a mother & im sure if she doesn’t know how to be a mother yet (with all the experience she had with her siblings growing up), then her own mother & perhaps Jessa will have been helping her adjust. I think joy seems to be doing just fine btw, so please leave this nice young woman alone. By the way I’m not a deeply religious fundamentalist American that just wants to stick up for the Duggar’s, I’m British & catholic, however I do not like to see a young mother torn apart by people who know nothing about her actual life. I always think how would I feel if that were my daughter (who btw is the exact same age as joy) & I know I would be very hurt for her, just as I am for joy. I’m beginning to feel this family should withdraw from the limelight totally as the intrusive comments about every move they make are getting ridiculous, they seem to never be able to do right.
DeleteMy son was always a wiry little guy- but his pediatrician always assured us he was healthy in every way. He's a grown man now, only 5'5" but as strong as an ox!

ReplyDeleteI knew I was going to Spain about 3 months ahead of time. I checked every tourist book I could find. All Madrid, All Toledo, were the titles, one for every city. I got an 8 tape learning course and studied every night. I knew Americans had a reputation for being dummies in Europe and I wanted to be the exception. I wish I could take a tv crew on vaca! You guys are so lucky...
