Season Finale

Counting On season finale

Did you catch last night's new episode of Counting On? Be sure to check out our recaps of the episode and the 20-minute special featuring Gideon Forsyth's birth.

Next week, TLC will air a two-hour special with all the details of Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell's wedding. Sadly, that episode will also be the Counting On season finale. The network has not yet announced another season, but stay tuned. During the break, keep coming back to our blog for all the latest Duggar news and announcements.

    3. Look at all the Seasons of C.O. and they are all averaging about 7 episodes, with the exception of season 2 which had more. So this one is average. But 7 episodes per season isn’t very impressive for a Series. 19KAC was doing 4 X’s that per season. Could see them doing more like 10-12 of Counting ON if viewership is there. Keep them Coming! It’s getting better content-wise. Just wish it wasn’t so far behind real life

  2. I’m going to miss this series. I realize this show is a an hour rather than just 30 minutes as some series are, so that may be the reason for the seemingly short seasons. But I have to say, the changes made this season have been amazing. What a difference and what an enjoyable show! I hope it continues for many, many more seasons. Thank you TLC!

    2. With Jill missing, it seems a bit odd, but so many wonderful family situations should be filmed.

      Delete
    3. Anon @ 8:15 what differences have been made? They are still airing stuff we have already seen out of order, and its still just weddings and babies, I fast forward through sections that are boring (tie shopping, I'd find that boring in my own life lol).

      Delete
    4. Jill isn't missing. She's still been in episodes since she and Derick "quit" the show.

  3. That is a very short season. Perhaps they'll do specials. The birth of Kendra's and Jinger's babies.

  4. Sorry, but they need more episodes. This season was way too short.

  5. This will be the third? fourth? fifth? time we've seen footage from that wedding. They shouldn't have shown it during the last season.

  6. Can't believe it that next week is the season finale!!!! Was that only 4 or 5 episodes?

  7. feel TLC did an very horrible job in airing this new season of counting on was nothing but recaps of their family weddings of joe,s wedding dressing buying. very disappointing wasting time in watching

    1. Exactly like the past seasons, with the main characters changed up. The next season will cover Joys pregnancy and birth and Josiahs engagement and wedding prep with their wedding as season finale, then the season after that will recap Josiahs wedding prep, show the wedding again and by that stage he and Lauren will be expecting their first baby. They will probably announce Kendra and Jingers pregnancies, but of course we will already know all the details of sex of baby and birth. It just goes round in circles, TLC no longer invests the money or effort it once did on this show, which makes the show predictable and repetative.

      Delete
    2. Then don’t watch it if it’s wasting your time. No need for your input

      Delete
    3. I agree that the show content is disappointing when we want to know so much more about the Duggar's lives. But maybe it is not TLC that is limiting the content--maybe the Duggar's don't want anything more to be aired than courtships, weddings and babies.

    4. Anon 2:53am...you hit the nail on the head, I couldn't have said it better myself and Im a fan...yes, even us fans can see the writing on the wall and say something not popular..it is what it is, no sense lying to ourselves...if we want to be perfectly honest.Seriously, there is more content in the Bates half hour than a whole season of Counting On...hint hint producers , take a page from that show and see what entertainment is all about these days...still love the Duggars 😉😍😊

      Delete
    5. 2:53- What do you expect? The focus of their lives is to get married and have lots of kids. That's the material TLC has to work with. The Duggar lives are entirely predictable and repetative.

    6. This season didn't seem as boring , I was hopeful shows would get better.. but I was wrong ...now they're going to close the season with the wedding we've already seen....
      LIsten everyone ....
It's Most likely TLC doesn't read this blog...send comments and complaints about the show directly to them..

  8. Are their seasons now down to about 4 episodes? Why not just a 2 hour special once a year. That’s really all that would be required.

  9. February 26 to March 26th...only 5 episodes. Extremely short season. So sad. I want it to be every Monday for at least 12 episodes. It should be like that the mini series This Is Us... 18 episodes per season.

    ReplyDelete

    1. This Is Us is on a major network. I would like to see at least 10 episodes. If they can’t do that then perhaps a two hour special three times a year?

    2. Um...isn't This is Us a scripted show?

    3. "Counting On" is a scripted show also.

  14. It was nice to see that Jana and Joy were wearing board shorts in the pontoon boat! They were still very modestly dressed but I assume more comfortable than in the long flowy swimwear.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I noticed that too, I'm really glad that they have ditched those ugly and unnecessary swimming dresses they used to wear. At least in the board shorts they can move more freely, and not have so much heavy fabric weighing them down in the water (which is dangerous) and they can still remain modest enough to feel comfortable.

  15. I don't understand why TLC only offers 6 or 7 episodes per season. I wish TLC would change the format - not so many recaps, cut out the question/answer sessions. Viewers want more day to day stuff and longer seasons. I watch through Amazon Prime so I'll get to see Gideon's birth today.

    ReplyDelete
  16. So disappointed. Since when is 4 episodes a "season"?? The Duggars have MANY fans who would keep watching. Is this a family decision or a TLC decision?

  21. Wait...the big finale is an episode we have already seen? What the heck is wrong with TLC?!?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wonder why this season was so short? It was only a month. I wish it were longer...so sad!

    ReplyDelete
  23. The Seasons just aren't very long anymore, wish they were like they were with 19 kids and Counting, it seems like they were on 6 to 9 months at a time. There is so much more they could show, hope they come back on soon...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wow! I wish TLC didn’t make the seasons so short! They have done a much better job editing the show this season. I have really enjoyed all of the episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Who in their right mind is making episode programming decisions about this show? The season is 'over'? It just started last month, didn't it? Not a fan of this show, but this IS ridiculous. Why would they have a two hour 'season finale' based on a wedding that has already aired? Doesn't make any sense at all. Either END this already dying show, OR do something that might resurrect it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Season finale already!?
That's a shame, I've really enjoyed this season and was looking forward to lots more episodes :(

I'm sure a new season will be announced to coincide with Kendra's/Jinger's births!
    Can't wait!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why is the season only 6 episodes long. Does TLC no longer have confidence in the show? So the ski trip will be seen on Bringing up Bates and not on Counting On? Sad

  28. Why such a short season, hope the next season starts soon.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't understand - how can it be over when it just started ? Why so short of a season ? I thought I heard it all wrong last night. What is up with this change ? I was just getting settled in to really see some good stuff going on !!!

    1. Does TLC even know what they are doing any more? If they could just do the show like they use to- everyday life with the Duggars is what we want. Seriously, it doesn't seem that hard to devote 6 minutes give or take to each of the main couples and then 15 minutes for daily life with Michelle and JimBob and the rest of the family.

      Delete
    2. Looks to me that tlc are trying the best to get the family off tv by frustrating the people who love them

      Delete
    3. I think TLC is about done showing the Duggars. This season was mostly a rehash of stuff they'd filmed previously. They didn't put much effort into the shows

      Delete
    4. Anon at 11:13AM: TLC is not going to "just do the show like they used to" because "Counting On" is a totally different show from "19 Kids and Counting". That show was officially cancelled years ago. and is never coming back.

Anyway, I think one of the reasons this season focused so much on old content, is that they actually do want to keep the show going for a couple more years, but they realize there's no guarantee there will be any courtships on the horizon after Josiah and Lauren.

If that's the case, it makes sense to hang on to footage for months before they show it. If the show was only a few weeks behind, that means that after J + L marry later this year, they'll be totally out of material to show on TV next year, at least when it comes to courtship related stuff.

However, if Jana or John David announce a courtship, then I'm sure the show will start moving a lot faster. But for now, Jana and JD seem to be resigned to being perpetually single, and the other kids are still too young, even for a Duggar courtship.

      Delete
  49. Already? I wish they would have all of the weddings available on one dvd set.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I wish TLC would have more episodes in each season. 5 weeks is not enough!

    ReplyDelete
  51. They could have condensed this entire season into an hour or two special.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I feel like they need to go back to just doing specials when something exciting happens. They're struggling to fill full seasons with content, and the "sneak peek" episodes isn't helping with audience approval. Don't tease an event out of sequence and then relive it again later. No other reality show does that.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Come on, already season finale !!! It's been only 4 episodes this season. The season finale will be about the wedding which we already saw and happened last September so more than 6 months ago. I really hope we'll see a new season in May or July but I'm pretty sure it won't happen. They only confirmed this season in December so I'm guessing we'll have to wait a while for a new season. I'm really sad.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Wow, that was barely a season! I am concerned that TLC may cancel the show altogether. Eileen

  56. Ellie do you know if the Duggar kids get paid for the tv show? I certainly hope they do!

  57. Sad that the season is so short. I could watch all year long. My favorite show on tv.

    ReplyDelete
  58. TLC didn't invest much in this season. Other than Gideon's birth it was reruns of stuff they had previously shown or had filmed then but didn't air. Sad. The finale is a rerun of Joe and Kendra's wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  59. TLC appears to have little interest in new stuff. Other than Gideon's birth it looks like all they do is go to their archives and cobble these shows together with what's there. A rerun of Joe and Kendra's wedding for a finale. It's doubtful they'll do another season now.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It has to do with money and sponsors. Few sponsors, less financial support for the show. They use old footage because they already own it.

TLC is not a charity. They have to pay their staff. And instead of bashing TLC, remember that they have kept them on the air. Most other networks would have cancelled the show years ago.

  60. Please bring back counting on please I enjoy this show.

  62. I remember hearing TLC cameras were at the SWAN fundraiser that Jinger and Jeremy attended last year. I recall seeing a photo of cameras filming a pregnant Joy out getting a pedicure with Jana, around December, I believe. I also saw a photo of TLC cameras filming Joe and Kendra in Greece on their honeymoon. So there must be more footage than is being shown?

  67. I liked this season, it was entertaining and funny. I don't know why, I think it was not too serious, we saw more of Michelle and Jim Bob and the children, etc...

  68. Yay! I hope the Duggars ditch TLC as that network is doing nothing to boost ratings or keep a fan base. I think tlc did that on purpose to get an excuse to cancel the Duggars for good. Smart.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes. TLC seems to be moving on and isn't doing many shows with the Duggars that are current.

      Delete
    2. If the Duggars ditch TLC where are they going to go? UP already have the Bates show so they will not want another similar show. Due to Joshs scandals and Dericks controversial tweets any other network will think twice before taking the family on. Also we do not know the length of contract the Duggars have with TLC, but it is unlikely they can just walk away whenever they want, TLC calls the shots.

      Delete
    3. They love TLC and will stay there. No it doesn't make sense but that's the way it is.

    1. Unfortunately Counting On is NOT the same show as 19 Kids and Counting. It's actually a "spinoff" show with a new set of "main characters" and a new theme.

JB and Michelle were the main characters on the original show, and the focus was essentially "the adventures of a mom and dad raising 19 kids".

Now JB and Michelle have become supporting characters and the focus is on the "kids" who are now old enough to start courting, marrying, and raising the new generation of Duggars.

While I'm sure there will be at least one more season, I do wonder if the Josiah - Lauren storyline will be the swan song for Counting On, though that's not the same as the Duggars never being on TV again.

Somehow, I don't foresee any other courtships for at least a couple years after that. And that might be one reason what's being shown to us now, is so far behind actual events. The show runners may be concerned that if they actually stay current, they'll run out of material.

      Delete
    2. The show is called Counting On,the focus is on marriages and new babies.
The Duggars agree to the content of the show.
They have the right to protect the privacy of the younger children.

      Delete
    3. They never EVER were concerned with the privacy of the younger children on the old show. Josie having a seizure on the counter, for starters.....

      Delete
    4. Yeah, that seizure episode was disturbing and didn't need to be aired. Nor did making the older girls sit in front of the camera and explain why what Josh did wasn't so bad. If there is privacy given to the kids in this family, it's not privacy about those highly personal things.

  73. Feb 26, March 5, 12, 19 and finale on March 26. Five weeks. Maybe they count an hour show as 2 episodes (like TLC's Outdaughtered does). And on March 19, they aired a one-hour show plus an additional half hour to show Gideon's birth. Finale is 2 hours. That's 6.5 hrs in all, so maybe TLC counts it as 13 episodes?

  74. I think everyone at TLC high-5 must each other when a courtship or a pregnancy is announced. Those are the only things keeping this show afloat...and barely.
