  1. Ya I have to say, I wonder if Joe is interested in a special young lady? Something tells me he is.

  2. Joe is definitely courting one of those Caldwell girls (can't remember her name). They're trying to be coy about that news but she is in too many pictures and around Joe too much for it to be anything else. Plus he's not a good "deceiver," or whatever you call having to avoid disclosing the truth while being interviewed. (Poker face? Pulling our leg?)

And Marjorie's back in pictures, too. Probably a reason why they pulled these two guys out for this interview.

    1. What do you mean that Marjorie is back in the picture? It seems like she's doing her own thing...

    2. It says she's back in pictures, not back in THE picture. She's been spotted at the Duggar house at various events.

    3. Would be nice to hear these young men go in-depth as to exactly what they do all day career wise. Are these boys prepared financially to support a wife and a passle of babies? I'm not talking helping to "flip" a house for dad. I'm talking a real job with health insurance, retirement plan - the REAL deal. I know dad employs them to a certain degree, but is there enough work in NW Arkansas to sustain ALL the grown sons as well as Josh at the little car lot? I know none have college degrees either. At least Ben is doing on- line college towards a 4 year degree, so he also needs employment through Jimbob too. Just hope if these boys want to marry that they can become financially independent whether that's with their dad or elsewhere. Good luck guys!

    4. No 5:07, Marjorie's back in pictures, as in showing up in photos they post online.

  3. As someone who raised now-grown men who know their ways around a washing machine, an ironing board, a clothing store, a grocery store, a kitchen stove, and a vacuum cleaner, this video makes me sad. The gender roles in the Duggar household are showing, and it's clear what's considered "women's work." These boys are not prepared to live on their own without a mother, a sister, or a wife doing things for them.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I agree.. I'd want boys to know how to do those things too!! Both roles can learn how, lol.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, very sad. "There's not enough sisters to go grocery shopping"???

      Delete
    3. I guess the boys will have to continue hanging around the house until the other girls, Johannah on down, can pick up the slack for them.

    4. My brothers lived at home until they got married not shopped, never did a dish or a load of clothes nothing different here GEEZ people let your light shine

      Delete
    5. Everyone learned how to shop, bake, cook, clean including laundry and basic car maintenance.
Didn't matter which gender and I did the same with my kid's.
Sharing time in the kitchen or folding clothes together is a great time to connect.
I don't know anyone that wants to raise a husband while having his children.
If men are that helpless they better earn enough for a maid when his wife is recovering from surgery or an illness.

    6. Couldn't agree with you more anon 5.26 am! The thing I find the worst is that we all have moms but that alot of moms apparently find this OK....

    7. I have 6 nephews, all have been home schooled by their mom. As part of their education, they were all taught and required to do laundry, cook, and clean the house. Each boy was assigned a family meal to prepare, as they grew old enough. She said they not only needed to learn for their own sake, but also that they could bless their wives, particularly after babies began coming along. The three oldest are in college now (2 on their own). Recently she came home from erranding with the younger boys to find her 15yr old had surprised her by making the family dinner. The boys regularly contribute dishes, as well as desserts, to family Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. Blessed is the woman who finds a man who is willing and able to cook and share the housework. Working together makes a marriage better.

      Delete
    8. The Duggars have been taught to cook and clean and take care of themselves. On 19 kids and counting, there were many times the kids would be cleaning the house, cooking, working in the yard... Jinger loved shopping and that was stated many times. As a mom of two boys, I have one that hates shopping and one that enjoys it. The one that hates shopping knows how to shop, but he prefers not to do it. He will wear whatever is picked out for him. My other son likes going shopping and picking out his own clothes; however, he does like to get his sister's opinion of his outfits. Since Jinger enjoyed the shopping and did most of it, they are just realizing they miss that. Jinger has a great sense of style, and they miss her opinions and help in that area. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and different things that they enjoy. There isn't anything wrong with the person doing the jobs they enjoy most. My daughter loves baking and makes most of the desserts for our family and for get togethers. She also likes to decorate and make crafts. I will miss those things when she is moves out.

    9. 5:20 am Feb. 24, you say your brothers never washed a dish, did shopping or laundry! Why would a mom or dad handicap their sons like that? I have 2 sons and he tells everyone that one of his fondest childhood memory's was helping me get food ready the night before Thanksgiving, as well as cooking Thanksgiving day! He helped with cooking more than my daughter did. My other son is also grown and married and he cooks for his family too. My husband loves baking, however, he grew up in a family where baking was strictly "women's work". He his the baking from his dad. His parents came to eat dinner at our house one day and his dad absolutely RAVED at how delicious "my" made from scratch biscuits tasted! Needless to say, his son made them, not me! His dad is gone now, but he never knew what a talented baker his son was. Such a shame some people are forced to live the way others think they should instead of being true to their selves.

  4. To those who thought in the other thread that Dani's top was appropriate for a Duggar interview: Do you see the black lace showing, too?

Michelle would definitely be saying Nike!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. She's all but falling out of that top, and yes, you can see lace. Remember, dressing like that is "defrauding."

      Delete
    2. The wat TLC is and the way the Duggars are I might be considered negative or defrauding but we all know how TLC is and with the Duggars being so hard on morals why did they not ask for modest clothing for there interviewer?!

      Delete
    3. Ah hummm to see black lace one would have to be looking closely lower than the countenance. I like Jeremy when he did this interview he spent the whole interview looking closely into Jinger's countenance. He was wise to know where to look to never have to have regrets about that video clip.
It is quite a test for the interviewees cause if they fail they are caught by the cameras. Now us viewers have to do the right thing when no body is watching. God is not a nobody though ..

    4. She wore that top intentionally, probably to tweak them. I'm sure she has other tops she could have worn.

      Delete
    5. Well tlc doesn't care what we have to say, and now Lilly and Ellie don't either. Mutable people asked for a warning if cleavage was showing

      Delete
    6. Mitchel or the other Duggars have no control what this young woman wears. There is nothing wrong with her top. There is no "defrauding" which is actually not a actual word.

She is not falling out of the top; I watched it and saw nothing wrong.

      Delete
    7. I only noticed this ladies shirt the second time I watched it with a judgemental eye. I believe the world would be a much better place if people focus on themselves and their behaviours and cared more about the content of the character of people no matter what the person decided to wear. I have been quickly helpfully lifted up off the ground once when I slipped on some ice by a homeless man begging by the liquor store. A lady of the night intervened once when I came out of my bank to a small group of people who started to to hassle me. My point is God is Love and these seemingly unlikely people showed me love.

John 13:34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another"

    8. Defrauding is the gerund form or the present participle of the verb defraud. "Actually is a actual word." Sorry to have to break it to you.

      Delete
    9. Laura @ 3:30 PM.. I think the interviewer should be respectful of who she is interviewing, plain and simple. People can wear what they want to wear, yes, but there is nothing wrong with good old fashioned respect, and she could've chosen a more modest outfit. People have to just stop thinking only about themselves for one second, and think about others. Just like you wouldn't smoke in front of someone who is bothered by cigarette smoke. Or chew gum loudly in Church. Or wear perfume if you're with someone who gets headaches. What is wrong with trying to please the other person by being accommodating to their wishes?

      Delete
    10. "Defrauding" is certainly a word. The -ing form of the verb "defraud."

      Delete
    11. I'm sorry for you Anon 9.10 pm if that is the thing you take from Laurens comment. Thank you Laura for your great comment it really reminded me of the person I want to be and which sometimes gets lost in the day to day life. Lots of love!

    14. I think the Duggar dressing rules have less priority in Michelle and JimBob's world. Dealing with Josh's mess and having their older daughter's out of the house now hold their attention and "purpose"!

      Delete
    15. Just because you put an 'ing' after a word DOES NOT make it a correct usage! This is a perfect example of the poor education system in the US and the lack of precision in language usage!

The verb is defraud and it means to deprive of a right, money, or property by fraud. Plus, note, it has NOTHING to do with morality. So, tell me, how can this young woman defraud the Duggar boys by wearing a top. She is not committing fraud. She is not depriving them of anything.

Please, just because the Duggars use a word does NOT make its usage correct.

    4. She knows that she's just talking about how they keep using bthe same lines to get our attention. And no Jessa and Ben won't adopt because apparently your youngest child has to be 9 months to a year old and she always gets pregnant before that happens so they will never be able to

      Delete
    5. Boy cats?? Josiah is a male human. If I called my son pretty, he would be 'pretty' upset. I imagine Josiah would be too. There are gender words. Would you call a lady handsome? Now if Josiah preferred that or was gay or something, that would be different. But, he has courted a female and hasn't come out as anything other than being straight. So therefore, he is a full fledge male who is handsome!

      Delete
    6. Why would "pretty" be rude? It's actually a compliment...

  10. So basically the guys rely on thier sisters to do women's work....most young men thier age know how to grocery shop, clean, cool, do laundry and have thier own sense of style and don't need a sister to dress them. I've got six sons and 2 daughters. All of my kids know how to do both "men's work" and"women's Work" i.e. My girls know how to change tires and fix a leaky faucet and get insects out of the house and my boys know how to cook, clean and do laundry. All of the skill sets everyone should have regardless of gender....

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So true. My kids all do housework, cook, shovel snow, cut the grass & fix stuff around the house. They all equal levels of educations, whether male or female.

My married daughter makes the same salary as her husband; they have degrees in the same field. He will make the supper while she is busying at some house repair or housework. They share the load as they should. None of this archaic male or female roles. I would have put my foot down if she wanted to marry someone like a Duggar boy. For my sons, I want them to marry equals-girls with education who can stand on their own two feet.

      Delete
    2. That's great your are super-mom but seriously ... through four years of secular university, I mostly saw boys and girls who couldn't do anything! One girl literally did not know how to use a toaster! Most could not use a debit card and had never had a credit card. Boys had their mom doing laundry & delivering a week's supply at a time of meals. Previous videos have shown Duggar boys helping around the house so I doubt they are helpless. I do agree that husband and wife should share some chores but, honestly, if mom isn't home with the babies & thus also doing more housework, that means mom is at work & babies are in daycare and to me, that is far worse than a mom "giving up" her career. Division of labour in marriage is a difficult decision to make.

      Delete
    3. Ever thought about both man and woman working for a bit... that together makes one good income... and that way the children don't have to ask mommy who the scary man carving the meat is. Other good thing of that is the children seeing mom and dad working together to keep the home!

      Delete
    4. Maybe it's just me but I think our world was a better place when we had male and female roles e.g. dad out making a living mom home raising the kids. I know this will incite a lot of anger but doesn't mean no one can do things the other sex does but just that they are not expected to. A grandma who has watched the world falter under women's lib ideology. Give me the old way!!!!!

  17. Love Joseph and Josiah, but their non-answer to the courtship question is exactly what viewers are frustrated about. TLC, if you ask the Duggars a question, they need to give the direct, honest answer. If they refuse to answer, don't ask questions. Interviews have become annoying and useless. This is not a scripted show with characters. It is reality tv with real people. Viewers are not going to wait months just to watch the show to get answers. They will move on to another show. TLC will have nobody to blame but themselves.

    3. "Back in the day" many generations lived under the same roof. Families were more caring for each and it was benefiting for all. Old helped the young, young helped the old. There was no need for homeless shelters, homes for the aged etc.; all knew they could look to family for what they needed. This is how I see the Duggars, we need more families like them. It is all about LOVE!!!

      Delete
    4. 2:52 you refer to "back in the day".....Its easy to reminisce about the olden days, but we must remember not all was kittens and butterflies! Women were second class citizens. It was MANDATORY that girls wear dresses to school at my school in the 60's. My sister was NOT allowed to learn to play drums in the school band because she was a girl. My favorite 4th grade teacher, who was married, had to quit her job in the middle of the school year because she was pregnant. Women were forbidden certain job opportunies. Domestic violence was swept under the rug. While its nice to look back, lest we forget the bad things too. As a woman, I want to make my own decisions. I'm quite capable to do anything a man can do. Slavery is in the past for women and I hope it stays there. Can't wait to see a woman be POTUS some day too! Geez, England had Margaret Thatcher to lead their country many moons ago, the USA needs to catch up! Even the middle east had Golda Meir! Olden days? NO THANKS!

      Delete
    5. 2:52, You paint a pretty picture of old domestic life with multiple generations, but in reality, that was not always the case. "Back in the day" there were horrendous poor houses, debtor's prisons, and insane asylums where people were put whether they deserved to be there or not. That was how homelessness, poverty, and the aged were dealt with. Even with its flaws, I'll take today's systems over the ones "back in the day."

  21. Pretty sad that when asked what has changed the most, the first thing they mention was that the girls did all the grocery shopping, cooking, etc. The first thing that would come to mind is that they will miss having fun with their siblings or something sweet like that. Just shows you how they value women for their homemaking skills and not much else. And Josiah, shopping for groceries is my favorite errand because it means I get to eat soon! Try it some time!

    2. For wanting their children to be "best friends", they seem to have very superficial relationships.

      Delete
  33. The vast majority of the Duggar kids who are married or courting seem way too young for it now or when those that did marry, did.
Jill and Jinger seem to have had the most sense. At least they were over 20 and their husbands were a bit older yet. Jessa's husband Ben seemed like a high schooler, Joy-Anna is too young at 19. But it seems like the younger ones may marry now even younger. Joseph may be 22, but I think I read the Caldwell girls were only about 17. And if one of the twins Jer or Jed is near courting, he is only 18. It was probably good for Josiah and Marjorie to wait awhile. These kids need to be out in the world on their own for awhile before getting seriously involved. Next thing you know they will be marrying off Johanna. Isn't she only 11?

  34. The way i see it is once you decide to have children than the mom stays home and raises the children. The boys on the other hand and expected to support that family, so they start learn to do that at an early age. They have 19 20 kids so college is not going to happen cant just pick 1 or 2 to go. I dont know about if the girls dont marry if they work or not. It may not look as if they do but they could be. I was a mom who had to work and I'm talking had to work together not making $30,000. 2 kids. My kids suffered by me working. In my opinion that is what is wrong with the kids today money was more important. The phones and the cable, the pedicures and the lavish birthday parties.$1500.00 a month mortgages, Christmas presents that take 2 days to open and tooth fairies that leave $10.00 .We have traded our kids for stuff.

    1. Parents who have gone to college, gotten degrees, and are professionals of some sort can afford those costs. Oh, and people who didn't do any of that but got a TV show instead. Or got a website with a Donate button.

Where do you find this tooth fairy, BTW? I need a $1200 crown on a tooth. I'd be happy to put the broken piece of the old tooth under my pillow, if the fairy would stop by. Gonna need more than $10 tho.

    2. 5:16, You say we traded our kids for "stuff". I agree, but will add that its no different than what Jimbob and Michelle have done for our viewing, traded their kids privacy and "normal" childhood for money. No different! I could see how upset the kids were when filming stopped, they grew up with cameras on them and no say so as to their privacy. How will Josie feel when she's 21 and knows the whole world saw her have seizures?

    4. not everybody has the means or affording any sort of collage right out of high school gets a free ride in life. got an few family members who do attend the same type of chruch as the duggars and belevie in birth contorl, none of this chasing down mission jobs in other countries, earning a honest living at a real job, no hand outs from the chruch donation basket to live off from. these family memebrs own 2 kids now hard working adults earn their own way in life own a home and ect.

    5. I'm not comfortable with the sweeping generalizations that people tend to lapse into on this site. Not all parents are like the ones 5:16 seems to think they are!

    6. 2:32 -- yes, many sweeping generalizations here. There are black and white, but there are also things that can be gray.

  35. I'd like to post this here, but I find Joy and Austin less exciting than fat free, sugar free vanilla pudding. Just don't see it with those two. What are they doing?

    1. I thought the same thing when they announced their courtship RIGHT AFTER the Vulolo-Duggar wedding!
It's Josiarjorie happening all over again.

    2. That's quite a mouthful! Think I'll stick to using their real names. :)

    3. All right. TBH, it's hard to come up with names for the other couples.

  36. It's a shame to hear that the boys do so little around the house. Men like these expect a warm meal cooked by a woman on the table twice a day and will feel entitled to that their entire lives. I'm so glad I married a man that is my equal.

    2. The boys do plenty -- yard work, construction, car repair...I'll gladly do the kitchen chores if they do that. Women sound so lazy and entitled now.

    3. Anon 3:07 - What is your point? Some women cant give birth. Irrelevant to OP's point.

    4. 3:07.... Are you saying that giving birth is the only thing that defines a woman, or that it means we aren't equal? Sigh...

    5. Anon. Feb. 25@2:15- in Duggar world, giving birth does define the women.

  37. Wow, there's that "whenever" again. He said "whenever Jinger actually got married..." Interesting way to speak.

    1. People comment on that "whenever" they use it on the show. I think it's a southern thing - I've heard the Bates and others use it in place of "when" more than once.

  38. Just think, who is missing the married girls more than
Michelle and Jana ❓❓❓....probably a day has never gone by
without Michelle having a lot of help...

    1. I'll bet those younger girls are having to help more than ever now. And their upcoming birthday messages will probably validate that.

  39. Hopefully the Duggars are all learning a little of everything, so that male or female, they will be willing to pitch in as needed like most modern day adults. However, each family has to figure out for itself who does what & the jobs & roles can be tweaked as circumstances & needs change.

However, i agree with the question of how many young people can one family support? Also, how can they support themselves if they have an interest outside the family business without a college degree?
