Spurgeon Learns to Rap

On last night's episode of Counting On, Jessa and Ben Seewald enjoy a visit from Christian hip-hop artist FLAME and his wife, Crystal. Before heading over to hang out with the Duggars, the Seewalds and their friends stop at a music store. Jessa and Ben look at keyboards, while FLAME teaches Spurgeon Seewald how to rap (video below).

  1. I thinks it's great Ben and Jessa are opening up a world of Christian music to Spurgeon that obviously Jessa--not sure about Ben--weren't allowed to have growing up. Our Lord is beautifully diverse. Although I personally don't enjoy rap I find it encouraging Ben and Jessa are open minded enough to understand and embrace various cultures within the Christian world.

  3. Kinda obvious they are trying to get Flame some publicity so he can sell records. I would've liked to see more of the family.

    1. And why is that a bad thing? Helping a brother in the Lord share his gifts and talents sounds wonderful to me.

    2. Wouldn't you do the same for your friend?

    3. I agree. So I fast forwarded through that segment. The body movements that goes along with rap music is not something I care to see.

  4. Spurgeon is so cute and attentive in that clip. I think he's so very cute. He seems to be a sweet baby as well. I've come to really like his name too tho at first I didn't. Spurgeon sounds so cute now and fits him.

    5. Why¿
      ?
Why is it sad? All rap music is not bad. If you would open your mind and listen to what is being said you can get a positive message about the struggles in this world that people face everyday. Stop being closed minded. Would it be so sad if they promoted classical music instead?

  9. If John gets married, Josh and Joey should be co-best men taking turns rapping and beatboxing the best man rap speech.

  10. 'This is Spurgeon's first visit to a music store"--of course it is. He is still a baby. He won't even remember it.

  13. I dont like the fact that on other post people think something is wrong with rap. Thats crazy lyrics are the proof of clean music not the style. Lets remember that Beethoven music was considered provocative in its time. Now there is classical baby music that uses beetoven. God Bless Flame and his ministry.

  14. I turned it off when they started the rap segment. Shame on you for bringing it back for a second episode like last season!!!
